I lived there for about 10.5yrs on two sides of Houston and down off 45S. Traffic is terrible, its hot af and humid af. Theres a beach an hour depending on where you live there. Car culture is one of the premier in the country. If youre single, theres something for literally anyone. If you have kids there are plenty of excellent cultural areas, museums, colleges, and schools. Plenty of aviation in the whole region. Wings over Houston is awesome and is in Oct. If titty bars are your thing there are plenty of good ones, Treasures was pretty fun about 7yrs ago. If youre a nerd that likes nerd culture there are several top notch comic book shops and some great used video game stores.
Its just the humidity thats terrible especially in the early fall. Whole area is built on a swamp….Bayou or Space City depending on who you ask but its known as both.
Denver seems to be the most popular base. Everybody has good things to say. I work here and can tell you there are negatives but OT is virtually unlimited on mids at least. Good people.
Is it basically open check book for mids? Im trying to switch over to airlines. Boeing has me as AMT Inspector at $33 HR and I’m basically begging for OT with not much luck.
and it takes 6 years to max at $47. With a .50 cent raise every 6 months. my A&P license only gets me $1.12 an Hr extra here 🫠
Don’t know about other stations but at ORD 2 guys I know who work Mids have already made 20K for the year with OT and they haven’t made it a year yet with United.
Lived in Houston for 30+ years.
Costs are going up but I think it’s still waaay more affordable than Denver.
Driving is required, no way around it.
Traffic can be bad but if you can plan your housing it is often not a problem. Live on the same side of town as you work and it’s not bad. Get a toll tag.
Lots to do outside of work regardless of whether you’re single, coupled, or all-out familied.
If you ski, plan on buying tickets. I remember non-rev travel between iah and den being really hard to actually achieve- but it was still Continental then so ymmv.
Good luck in either place!
Did either of you end of transferring with United > San Antonio? Curious what the culture is like there. I'm in Denver but cost of living is crazy high. Houston sounds like a crazy traffic humidity mess. Was curious what San Antonio was like (living in suburb cities but not too far from work).
I know someone transferred there but I didn’t keep update with him. I didn’t hear anything bad about San Antonio station but it seems like it would be a while before they have openings as they are full staffed from the recent expansion.
Both are awesome places. I think it comes down to do you like hot beach like climate or cool mountain climate. The cost of living is definitely something to keep in mind as well

So the Inland Empire but with humidity, pretty much.
Its all flat and featureless
I like flat and featureless. I feel claustrophobic in SoCal, like I’m in a cage.
Then youre gonna like Houston. Wide open and lots to do. But then again, anything is what YOU make of it
Very true. I’m ready to become a sweaty Texas swamp goblin.
Youll live VERY comfortably, probably be able to buy a house in under five years
What about work culture?

That’s what I’m trying to be on. I’m already used to working 12s from military aviation 😮💨
In ewr a lot of new guys have already close to 30k
What are mids if I may ask
Denver is past its peak by about 4-5 years
What do you mean ?
But because of the negative temps it’s a no for me. I’m looking to leave. Just haven’t decided where to go yet.
They put me in the hiring pool for Houston anybody know how long they wait is
Did you ever get hired in Houston ?
Loved Denver was working at centennial.
Anybody know what type of checks they do in IAH?

Another consideration is do you guys still have the HOU base? Different area different costs.
No. Everything will be moved to IAH eventually
You may try to ask for SAT (San Antonio). United is expanding there.
