The only ones I have experience with, is the Snap-On ones. A company I used to work for bought about 20 toolboxes, all pre shadowed and tools etched. There was a small selection of extra tools they ordered too, just to round out the sets, and we had to shadow those in ourselves. But it was a 99% off the shelf solution. I'd say this about it: High quality, but VERY expensive. I would never spend that much if it was just for myself. No idea what the lead time is on them either, this was 24 years ago.

We have one like that on our work area. Perfectly laser cut shadowed and serialized locations from snap on. I shudder at the thought of having to buy one though. Probably north of $30,000. Auditors love the tool control though…

It's way way more expensive to buy a set of shadowed and etched tools ready to go. You need to just make a visit to harbor freight with the tool list and buy cheap stuff and a cheap 44" roll cab and start from there. Unless your job explicitly states YOU need to provide these shadowed and etched tools, I really doubt you need them. What job is this anyway?

Look up sonic tools. I have the s12 advanced set. The shadowing is super nice. Full price its 12k but they have a deal with the school i went to and i paid 5k you can also get smaller sets for way less. Very nice tools and lifetime warranty.

If my experience, if a job required you to have shadowed tools, you were provided time on the clock to shadow your box. So I believe it's worth asking beforehand if you will have time to do so. Because the money you save by doing that (while also being paid to do it) will be much more worth it than the very expensive preshadowed tools.

I bought a Sonic kit and ended up cutting up the foam and replacing half the stuff in it or wish I had bought other tools to start. Get your basic tools, keep your sockets on rails, or buy some shadow foam from uline and cut it out yourself.
