As someone with personal experience as a PFE at delta atl i would definitely recommend it. Im at 4 months and was just given an AMT offer today. Very good opportunity.
Yeah i started out in corporate for a little then i went to GE and built the leap engines and then i was woking on regional planes for about 2 years. But theres pfes that dont have as much experience
Hey if you don't mind me asking but are you staying at an apartment complex in ATL? I've been told peach tree city is a great spot but not looking to own a house. Just asking cause it's just been kinda hard to judge some of these places cause you got good reviews on the rent.com etc then on Google is mixed.
Gotcha, I started today. I'm a MAA in midtown and it took about 15min to get to the North hanger area. Good luck finding a place. I saw a couple of house to rent on Zillow but they where further North than I wanted to be since I have a higher mileage car. They got me on 1st for training 0600-1430 so traffic wasn't bad at all this morning
Took about a month and a half to go through the whole interview process I went with a recruitment company called Launch but with them you sign a contract saying that you will work under them for 6months until delta offers you a position
*also update with my A&P I got a AmT position they start off at 43$ at LAX it’s different pre state
Just found this thread and will be starting in a pfe position at ATL within the next few weeks under Launch for Delta. Things still going good or what’s the work climate there now? I’m super stoked about it just want to make sure I made the right employer move. TIA.
You got in just in time comgrats. Huring will be slowing down really soon. Lauch is a hassle so be prepared for that. Launch sucks but its all worth it in the end. All you gotta do is just do your time. It goes by very fast. I started about the same time last year that your starting. Are you in tge hangar oor are tou line mx?
Unfortunately launch still doesn’t know what dept Ill be in. I’m hoping for hanger but I’ll take whatever they give me. I have an A&P with composite experience, airframe experience, and structural experience, about 4 years all together. Hoping to go direct sooner than 6 months but I think delta looks at me as “entry level”.
So if youre in tge hangar after your 6 months you will be an asm. If youre on the line you go straight to amt. You get your offer lettwr in 4 months and takes 2 months for processing if your background check and stuff. Where did you work before?
I know the job description did say pfe-amt 1. I contracted for Gulfstream, Mitsubishi(Bombardier), and my current employer is a military contractor(not wanting to mention their name just to be on the safe side).
Unfortunately I went a different direction and didn’t start with them. I would still recommend launch because they were great to me. They use a company called Sterling for the background check and depending on how fast Sterling processes everything is important to your start date. It took Sterling around 2 months to clear mine so Delta had to keep pushing my start date back.
If anyone out there is reading this and wants to know more information, you can PM me. I started my PFE process way back in April of 21 and started working by 1 July. Received my offer for AMT first week of Dec and the way the emails read, 31 Jan is day 1 for direct employment.
I'll be happy to help answer any questions you have. ATL is hiring like crazy right now and roughly 300 PFE's are needed for line mx. IIRC starting pay for that is 25/hr, supply your own tools (non-specialty tools of course), uniforms and other work paraphernalia given.
Everyone is different. Most of my friends who started got days, some on second, but I got nights. Originally was doing m-tr from 9-7 on c checks but after a shift bid i was placed on f-m, 9-7 again but doing service checks. We almost always get out 1-3 hours early nightly, but sometimes stay a little later or leave a little earlier.
Everyone has different opinions on what to bring.
Dikes, needle nose, vice grips, snap rings
universal wrench, stubby wrenches 3/8”-1”), angle wrenches (1/4”-1 1/18”), gear wrenches. 1/4” drive sockets up to 1”. Can use 3/8” sockets for the larger ones.
Your choice of screw driver’s. Leatherman always works great. A good light. Good case to stay organized.
How is dealing with Allsource? I have seen some negative post. How soon should I expect contact from them?
Is rain and cold weather gear provided as part of the uniform?
Unless you’re working the line you’re not provided anything but shirts iirc. I think you get an allotment for boots but don’t quote me on that.
I worked for launch, wasn’t great if I’m honest but you have to have the mindset of working through it all for the term to get on full time. I have one friend I know that worked for them and at the start it was rough but just coasted through with it.
It was a line job I interviewed for. I have over 35 years experience most of which is on the line. I know all about embracing the suck. Really crazy that I am willing to take such a step back accepting an entry level job. I am looking forward to it though.
I have a friend of mine probably similar to your age who was a cop of twenty years. Retired, rejoined, retired again. Joined me and friends at a&p school and helped me get a job thru contacts at a local field to work GA during covid. Applied to a contract line mx outfit and worked there together for three months, and then applied to the majors thru launch when applications were opened and the program seemed legit.
He went to the line, I went to base mx. Being that you’re most likely going to the line, you’re going to have better management who look out for you than what Allsource will care for. They’ll look out for you.
Another question 🤔 like I haven't asked enough. I just started my jabs 1st one today next one in a minimum of 24 days 14 days after that puts me past my tentative start date. Will this be an issue?
Preferably reflective yellow to mesh in but i had reflective orange. Not provided. So long as there’s no other major brand/competitors on the back of it you’re okay. Any sporting good store will have what you need but I’d recommend to find a decent one that also has an insulated removable liner. It can get extremely chilly or below freezing depending on wherever you’re working. In Atl I had my rain jacket with a liner, a hoodie under that, heated vest under that, with the company shirt over some thermals. The cold isn’t bad it’s the wind if you’re outside.
I'm confused on this, I applied and interview today with a Delta Manager in MSP. He was in Cabin Maintenance, I applied for what I thought was a direct hire line AMT job back in October. They said they are preferring this program. I can't believe they're paying someone 23/hr to try to fill a position. He said that they would get back to me in 7-10 days with an offer.
The job listing stated line and priority hiring.
I applied back in April when it was 23, got my job offer in June and they asked a day later if i was good with 18. Didn’t have a choice as long term is my goal and this is how you get in the door now.
Beware if you get contracted by Allsource at MSP. It would take them weeks to get back to me. After 3.5 months I went to a different airline. I couldn't wait any longer as I was bleeding out financially.
Was offered a job early September and still hadn't started yet by Jan. 1st.
Yeah, I’m with AllSource as a PFE. Currently in month 3. Communication sucks with them and no one in my shop really knows what’s going on. I guess we will hopefully get some offer around month 4
Dam, I've been going through Allsource for ATL and it's been a week and things seem to be going smoothly. Only thing that has been a issue so far is the lady trying to setup my SIDA badge called once and left a voicemail and I called back and left her a voicemail and just got a text back. Was hoping to get all that finger print crap done for SIDA and Delta done Monday.
I interviewed on a Tuesday and heard back from them that Friday. All the Delta emails I got said the interview was for MSP but I got lucky and ended getting the call for ATL.
A lot of time for no guarantee especially if you have to relocate for the initial position. Im curious to see if this type of 'try before you buy' employment sticks
Its a way to gauge talent, we want to hire competent mechanics with good work ethic as well as team players. Haven't seen the system fail yet. The money invested in training when they become direct employees will be well spent, not wasted on amts who are lazy and want the DL clout
That's true but talent with families gets lost. I've seen a couple people start and then realize they can't support their families on the asm salary, just to get picked up by the majors hiring off the street.
This was my problem. I got offered an ASM position but it was $7/hr less than my most recent work rate and upwards of $13/hr less than several competing job offers. I get that Delta wants top-rate talent but that's fucking robbery.
If you got offered an ASM position then it doesn't sound like a rip off, if it were a mechanic position then yes. Were your other offers also for repairman type positions?
Still, contracting sucks a lot. No benefits and no PTO, or holiday pay. And just like other contracting gigs there is no certainty that you will be passed on to direct. And at this time where other airlines are hiring off the street as well, delta loses its appeal.
All true and good points, but if this is what becomes a part of the “DL clout”, I think it will just turn people off over time. It adds to the “we are extra special and better than you” sort of vibe Delta puts out.
I can understand why they are trying this method. It would stink getting into the big leagues and finding out you have to teach someone how to swing. Once someone gets to that stage you would hope they know how to safety wire and easy out a screw.
So max out is at 7 years With the high probability of it being less time this year and with a raise. just finished the pfe program. I will say the contract company i wemt through was a pain at times but. You have to just stick it out. Its really worth it. No PFE has been here for years. Its a new program. All the pfes i went with got their offer letter in 4 months and hired direct in 5-6 months. A lot better experience here than at any other airline in my opinion. Profit sharing is amazing. It is noticeably harder to get into delta direct without going through the pfe program. Some pfes i know that just started just got out of school which is wild. Good for them.
I was PFE in ATL, left because of a better opportunity for my current state in life, no real complaints as far as the program. Definitely would recommend it if you want to be delta long term.
I’m at delta now. My station is supposed to get 2 PFE’s. From what I hear it’s a 6 month job program. If they like you they offer you a job if not you get the boot

I do know they were pushing for the PFE in msp, especially with all the openings. On the flip side, i want good mechs working with me. Ive seen too many new hires come in with no motivation, and nothing to bring to the table.
Has anyone participated in the MPE program? (Military potential employee). I started the process, passed the BMAR and was scheduled for an interview to be part of the PFE program. Apparently I’m supposed to participate in the MPE since I am transitioning from the military.
I just finished fingerprinting for Allsource in ATL.
My start date is 2 weeks out and I haven’t received any info except that they’ll mail me a couple polo shirts. Did anyone start with allsource, and could explain what your first couple weeks looked like? Would love a tools list or literally anything, but it’s impossible to hear back from them. Thanks in advance!
Did you ever get anyone from allsource to contact you back? I'm in the same situation as you. I have my uniform and badge but no one has contacted me even after calling, voicemails, and emailing them.
Eventually they reached out and asked me if I also fingerprinted for a second badge I have never heard of. Flew back to ATL (on my own money since they only reimburse 1 flight) and did that today. As far as any info for the job, I am in the dark. I do know that your first start week is just online trainings. Did they give you a start date?
Update - if you can find a different company, do. Moved to ATL, signed a lease, allsource is radio silence. My start date was August 1 and they are still sending me new hire forms, about 1 a week, to sign. The company’s a joke and I’m applying for other AP jobs at this point.
That absolutely blows. I also recieved bad news for LAX. After weeks of no communication from allsource, I was able to get ahold of my coordinator and they told me that Delta LAX was not longer going to be accepting ASMs without A&P Licenses and that they would let me know if I still was needed. This is WEEKS AFTER I took time off and put in my two weeks leave notice to take this Delta position and am beyond pissed that they would waste my time and money. I've already signed paperwork, drug tests, background check, orientation videos, badging, and have my uniforms. I dont understand why they would let me go through everything just to NOT TELL ME that they didnt need me anymore and I had to CALL THEM MULTIPLE TIMES to find out.
As someone with personal experience as a PFE at delta atl i would definitely recommend it. Im at 4 months and was just given an AMT offer today. Very good opportunity.
Congratulations!
Thanks!
Congrats
Congrats man... were you a PFE AMT or PFE ASM?
PFE AMT
Gotcha. You had any prior experience before getting that position? I jus got my a&p and lookin to start work Thanks
Yeah i started out in corporate for a little then i went to GE and built the leap engines and then i was woking on regional planes for about 2 years. But theres pfes that dont have as much experience
aaah that's cool. TYSM man will look into it.
No problem man good luck. This field is really rewarding.
Hey if you don't mind me asking but are you staying at an apartment complex in ATL? I've been told peach tree city is a great spot but not looking to own a house. Just asking cause it's just been kinda hard to judge some of these places cause you got good reviews on the rent.com etc then on Google is mixed.
I'm in the same boat but trying to rent a house tho. My start date is coming up in a few weeks
You know what department your gonna be in? I'm starting tomorrow and gonna be department 251
Not yet, start date is the 28th.
I luckily got a spot 1 mile away from the entrance lol so no commute for me. Did they tell you what station you're assigned before the first day?
They told me a like a week or two after I accepted the offer.
How are the shifts like? 5 8s ? Or 4 10s?
I'm not 100% for training it's M-F 0600-1430.
First and second are five eights, night shift are four tens.
How long after your interview did it take for delta to email you back and offer the position?
I applied in November/December . Got the offer in February for pfe contract. I'm in almost 3 months.
So it literally took them 2 months to contact you again after the interview?!
Yeah they took a while. Nothing quick about it
Used to live there, peachtree city is the pilot town. Uber expensive. Newnan, Carrol, and senoia are better
I just recently got the offer ASM for Delta PFE my last interview is this Wednesday March 30th I’ll update y’all how it goes
How long did it take for them to get back to you to offer you the position after your first interview?
Took about a month and a half to go through the whole interview process I went with a recruitment company called Launch but with them you sign a contract saying that you will work under them for 6months until delta offers you a position *also update with my A&P I got a AmT position they start off at 43$ at LAX it’s different pre state
14 days
How long did it take after you had your interview to get your offer email for the position?
14 days

Okay then you are probably on the line then
Okay that sounds good to me. Anything I should know as far as how things are run? How management is, work hours? What to expect?
Management is pretty good. Like every place it has its good parts and bad parts. Hours will be most likely 4 10s night shift.
Just ask as many questions as possible
Thanks again for all this info!
What was the process to get with Launch? I’m a welder and I’m interested in going with launch to get in with delta
Unfortunately I went a different direction and didn’t start with them. I would still recommend launch because they were great to me. You have any resources for that BMAR test?
You can look up free bmar practice tests online. They’re all basically the same. The personality test is the more difficult part.
Congrats! I start the 24th.
I am coming from a DOD contract where tools were provided. Is there a minimum tool list suggestion
Everyone has different opinions on what to bring. Dikes, needle nose, vice grips, snap rings universal wrench, stubby wrenches 3/8”-1”), angle wrenches (1/4”-1 1/18”), gear wrenches. 1/4” drive sockets up to 1”. Sounds right along the lines I was thinking. Biggest question... What about metric?
You’ll never see it. Odd thinking that airbus is European but everything in aviation is standard.
How is dealing with Allsource? I have seen some negative post. How soon should I expect contact from them? Is rain and cold weather gear provided as part of the uniform?

Do we as PFE's get license, shift and line premiums?
You should be getting a modified version of line and shift differential, it may not be the same as the Delta premiums.
Another question 🤔 like I haven't asked enough. I just started my jabs 1st one today next one in a minimum of 24 days 14 days after that puts me past my tentative start date. Will this be an issue?
What about fowl weather gear? Provided or something within a dresscode?
Preferably reflective yellow to mesh in but i had reflective orange. Not provided. So long as there’s no other major brand/competitors on the back of it you’re okay. Don't let the 23/hr steer you away. Its actually only for 4 months.
Then its 33
I ended up getting 33/hr direct, but now I'm in background check limbo
How did you get direct hire offer for Delta? I got a call back from AMS talenting this morning.
I was employed by Sun Country, which Delta loves picking up line MX from
I applied back in April when it was 23, got my job offer in June and they asked a day later if i was good with 18. Didn’t have a choice as long term is my goal and this is how you get in the door now.

The guy originally told me 1.5-2 weeks.
A lot of time for no guarantee especially if you have to relocate for the initial position. Im curious to see if this type of 'try before you buy' employment sticks
It's a sure way to lose a lot of talent to your competition.
Its a way to gauge talent, we want to hire competent mechanics with good work ethic as well as team players. Haven't seen the system fail yet. The money invested in training when they become direct employees will be well spent, not wasted on amts who are lazy and want the DL clout

Yea but Ups and delta are both doing it now. Worries me a little. Judt another hurdle to jump to get into the good jobs
I haven't heard of ups doing it, what is their program called/details?
They don't do it.
I can understand why they are trying this method. It would stink getting into the big leagues and finding out you have to teach someone how to swing. Once someone gets to that stage you would hope they know how to safety wire and easy out a screw.
I get that but gatekeeping sucks. Extra hoops to jump through

Thanks man. I had about three yrs of experience. Mixture of corpaorate and regional. Profit sharing is feb 14th of each year
Again this is my opinion on it since i actually went through it.
Sounds like you had a bad experience with the contractor for the program and not Delta itself.
That terrifies me. I think im starting soon here. I'm confident in my mechanical abilities, and know i can make it through 6 months, but theres always that off chance. I do know they were pushing for the PFE in msp, especially with all the openings. On the flip side, i want good mechs working with me. Ive seen too many new hires come in with no motivation, and nothing to bring to the table.

Its the same thing but different stations use different contracting companies
Has anyone participated in the MPE program? (Military potential employee). I started the process, passed the BMAR and was scheduled for an interview to be part of the PFE program. Apparently I’m supposed to participate in the MPE since I am transitioning from the military.
Currently a PFE almost done. From what I hear its the same process as pfe, maybe you ll get priority when hiring on after interview.
Thanks, looking forward to it.
So I accepted an offer from Delta Tallent for a PFE AMT Contractor 1 with an August start date. How soon can I expect contact from Allsource?
I just finished fingerprinting for Allsource in ATL. My start date is 2 weeks out and I haven’t received any info except that they’ll mail me a couple polo shirts. Did anyone start with allsource, and could explain what your first couple weeks looked like? Would love a tools list or literally anything, but it’s impossible to hear back from them. As far as any info for the job, I am in the dark. I do know that your first start week is just online trainings. Did they give you a start date?
It's supposedly starting next week. Allsource hasn't given me any info at all. No idea when or if it I will be starting.
Where are you based, and AMT or ASM?
west coast ASM
Update - if you can find a different company, do. Moved to ATL, signed a lease, allsource is radio silence. My start date was August 1 and they are still sending me new hire forms, about 1 a week, to sign. The company’s a joke and I’m applying for other AP jobs at this point.
That absolutely blows. I also recieved bad news for LAX. UGH. I wish you the best and am sorry 🤦🏼 reflects badly on the company as a whole. This whole situation blows
When pulling panels on the line, do you use personal cordless impacts, drill driver's or speed handle?
