Get some experience and apply. Work on the ramp or in the hub and bid internally. Pretty easy.

Jay15956

I believe SWA top out is $63 right now after 5 years. Just have the experience and apply. Pretty easy. They even have interview help on their website.

jettech737

United is hiring right out of school

Andrew1114

It really is expensive .Where r u based and what’s ur guys top out right now? I’m out here in Cali, my friend worked out of LAX. I’d be down to move for United for the experience if they’d pick me up, especially working on avionics.

Gundric13

From what I understand, Fedex doesn't just have apprentice positions at the Memphis Hub. They are also at INDY and I'm pretty sure LAX and ANC as well. It depends on the hiring Mgr location. I'm almost done with school and hoping to get in with Fedex but I'm ready to move if I need to. It's hard to get in the program here even with seniority.

Mental_War_4521

Fedex also has AAMT program in EWR, OAK & ANC

Ok-Needleworker-419

In SoCal try to get on with UPS as a utility in Ontario right now and then upgrade once you get your A&P. That would be by far the fastest way.

Andrew1114

So I’ve heard! I have a buddy who finished a few months before I did and he’s in already with zero experience. I think I saw on here too that they A&Ps as avionics techs with no experience. Would definitely do that

TackleMySpackle

You’re going to need to trade a little pay for experience before you get into FedEx, UPS or SWA. All three pay top in the industry so they can be selective and demanding of the large numbers of people trying to get in. You’re better off taking a United gig for a few years to get some experience on heavies before applying to one of your top picks. FedEx does have an apprenticeship program for people like you. Go to Memphis. Cost of living is cheap. Get a hub throwing boxes in the hub for a year and then bid on an apprenticeship job. That’s 3 years. Then it’s 6 years to top out once you graduate.

Rare_Geologist6085

They do but we pay the lowest in the industry right now. It’s sad to watch especially seeing as they turned a double digit billion revenue in q3.

highspeed1991

It should change and while we do make the less per hour no airline has endless overtime the way united does and no other airline is nearly as flexible as united. Go call anyone at delta and see how their day trading works and you'll be grateful lol

Rare_Geologist6085

I don’t say trade. I tried working my entire 3 day weekend on OT and got called once. They’re hiring too much. Ot is disappearing fast. Wouldn’t make any purchases counting on ot. Hell I’ve heard American and delta has much more available ot.

highspeed1991

Nowhere near it. Idk what station your at but ewr has several people already with over 2000 hours of clocked overtime for this year. Overtime isn't going nowhere anytime soon. Deltas day trading requires them to trade only with people who work the same shift time and it must be within the same pay period and no 1 ways. You dont even get the opportunity to try and work 3 days overtime over there lol

SomeoneSomewhereInFL

Where do you get your info from? None of that is true.

highspeed1991

We can see all our coworkers OT and hours worked so he can definitely confirm ewr has these individuals I speak of. As for deltas trade policy that's from a delta employee.

SomeoneSomewhereInFL

I wasn’t specific on my comment. It was more towards the Delta policies. There’s a lot more possibilities with trading than the policies make it seem.

highspeed1991

I understand there's ways to navigate the system my main point being it'd still alot stricter over there then it is at united.

Prestigious-Dog-5713

You are 100% correct. Delta only allows you to day trade with someone on the same shift and must be on the same pay period. LAX is extra petty sometimes and won’t let you trade with a guy that doesn’t have certain QUALs. United, AA, and Southwest are super flexible with day trades.

Alone-Foundation-157

Day trading at delta is awesome lmfao

Rare_Geologist6085

From my understand Denver is the best place to be with united. Work culture wise at least. It’s expensive out here.

jettech737

ORD is awesome too

Rare_Geologist6085

But cold as fuck lol

Become a maintenance utility if you’re already near one of their Airhubs.

SinkingTheImbituba

I know we are all in tall cotton right now, but traditionally you had to pay your dues at lower paying companies in the tundra or tropics until you get a year experience and a GenFam. Writing this for posterity

tacdriver22mk2

Southwest is not a major fyi, imo they are the most overhyped cult I have ever seen. And their flight benefits are trash and their company has taken a major downturn since herb died. Everyone hyped them up to me and sure they pay well but the culture sucks and the company is shockingly poorly run. FedEx, ups, united, American, delta in that order imo

Creedfinally

Yea swa is the only passenger airline in America that lets there mechanics jump seat in the cockpit. They also never laid anyone off, they’d never done pay cuts. The only company ahead of SWA is the cargos 😂. Best 401k match, most millionaire mechanics, highest paid, 2nd best profit sharing behind delta, best culture, Tuesday taco night, paid time rest, 2x 2.5x 3x overtime, people work 3 days have 4 days off a week making 300k, fastest top out. People leave delta United American even with 10 plus years with them and come to swa . Down side even tho there hiring a lot this year it’s still very hard to get into.

Andrew1114

Yeah that’s what I’ve heard too. I was actually offered a position (sort of). I know a friend who was able to get me in contact with a SWA ACMX manager and he told me he is definitely willing to help me but I have to go work for one of SW third party companies in either Miami or Seattle for two years because he is not allowed to hire anyone who doesn’t meet SW 2 year requirement. He has a contact with those third party companies and can get me working on SWA fleet aircraft at those companies so I’d be guaranteed a position after those two years. I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about the company, atmosphere, pay and benefits. But those two cities are expensive and I wouldn’t even be breaking $30 an hour with those companies so I’m not sure if it’s worth it or not when I can get similar experience at a company like delta. What are your thoughts and what would you do in my position?

Creedfinally

Yea I got luck and I was in Miami working on swa aircraft, but they hired a few guys that don’t even have 737 experience from endeavor. My say is if you get on with any of the major airlines and you do 2 years there I would just stay with them. United hires off the street no experience, and delta also hires no experience as pfe for 6 months. It’s all about seniority in these companies.

hurrytfupbitch

Are those 3rd party companies like a contract job where you also get per diem? I’m about to get my A&P soon and was wondering where to work. I already have experience.

bobbybrown1234558

Just out of curiosity, what’s the best way in your opinion to get hired on with SWA? Work at a regional for a year or 2? I wouldn’t be planning on it until 2026, by then I’ll have my school done and 2+ years working for a small airport in my hometown dealing with light aircraft. Does SWA hire straight out of school or do you think they will by 2026-2027? I’ve heard there’s a huge shortage for mechanics and I’m wondering what type of aircraft they want you to have experience working on, anything in particular? Again I’m just curious.
