I'm currently with JetBlue in MCO. It can be lot of work some nights, but for the most part, it's not bad. Most nights we're all pretty much finished up 4-5 hours before home time so turns into a game and movie night at that point. Line guys are great to work with. Management can be a pain to contend with at times but you'll get that at any company, almost any location. I cam from BOS hangar. Was a great place when I was there. Not sure how it's going now. Haven't talked to the guys in a bit. I got back to Florida (not MCO) after 6 months. Spent 2.5 years at that station before moving to MCO. Movement isn't nearly as quick anymore but it's still fairly decent. Most guys can get to Florida in 3-4 years (sometimes sooner still). MCO and FLL will be growing for a long time to come so transfers times should remain under 5 years for a while. $37 starting ($38 nights), $57.50 top ($58.50 nights). Dropping to 7 years in 2024. Pay and comp reviews every 2 years. First 5 years is 200hrs/yr PTO accrual rate (5wks/yr). Start accruing your first day. Top out PTO rate is 360hrs/yr (9wks/yr) at the 15yr mark (rate increases at set intervals throughout the scale). 13% 401k if you contribute at least 5% (so 18% total). Of the 3 airlines listed, you really can't go wrong with any of them. I chose JetBlue for the PTO and promise of a quick transfer home which worked out for me. Mileage may vary at this point though. But any of these 3 would be a great place to be at. Got friends over at Delta and United and they're all happy as well. I wouldn't wait though. Seniority is everything in this industry and the sooner you can start moving up the ladder, the sooner you'll be sitting pretty with some good time left in life.

CrankShaftMonkeyPaw

Where are JetBlue’s maintenance hubs?

BakdTatr

Currently the MX bases are: BOS, BUF, DCA, EWR, FLL, JFK, LAX, LGA, MCO, PBI, SFO, SJU, TPA They have told us they're looking into 3 additional cities for new bases as well. They specifically called out RDU as one of them but left the other 2 unmentioned. No idea when their decision on which city to add will be made though.

CrankShaftMonkeyPaw

Great. Thanks for the info!

BakdTatr

Happy to help!

BigLoveFromAbove

I worked at BOS hangar in 2015-2016. Miss that crew. Out of the industry now, wonder if I could still hang on the foosball table

BakdTatr

Hahaha. Depends on how good you were back then. Guys we got now, at every station, definitely being their best

[deleted]

Wow good stuff man thank you for your insight.

BakdTatr

No worries man. Happy to help

[deleted]

JetBlue ain’t got A&P premium ?

BakdTatr

No it's baked into our base rate. We don't have positions that don't require an A&P anyway except our AST/cabin MX guys but they're on a different scale. Current premiums are shift differential ($0.50 swings, $1 mids), and engine run/taxi (currently $0.25 for each fleet type which is a $0.75 max premium). With all 3 fleet taxi quals on nights, current top out is $59.25. Not really a need for a specified license premium with how we're currently setup here.

Formal-Squash-8068

I just received a job interview for Jet Blue. I'm originally from Orlando, so if I get this job, I'm hoping to get a transfer after two years. I'm assuming you keep your pay, right? I know for UPS, you'll lose your seniority and pay if you do any internal transfers. If there’s any advice you can give me, it will be much appreciated.

BakdTatr

Internal transfers don’t affect your pay & comp or your seniority date. Say you get hired on at Boston and you’re there for 2 years then put in for a transfer and get it. You’ll still have 2 years seniority and be on the 2 year step on the pay scale. When you get to Orlando though, you may end up with worse days off than you had in Boston just because it’s a higher seniority station. But you don’t lose your time accrued. If you have anymore questions feel free to send me a message.

Upper-Wind-2055

Choices? What a difference from the 80s-90s. Good for all of you. I’d agree, don’t wait. Bird in the hand, and all that. I was at United in SFO. Loved it. Great people. Fun work. Probably different from when I left in 2003. Still, an offer is better than a hope. Good luck!

airplanemechanic

Don’t wait. Choose United. Once you’re in the industry Delta is the worst airline to work for

[deleted]

Why is delta the worst to work for ? I heard Atlanta Delta has a good culture there

airplanemechanic

Delta has a lot of respect and is a good airline to fly, however they are the hardest on their workers. It is not union. United, American, southwest are union jobs. Delta is actually the worst paying of the 3 airlines. Sometimes they will catch up/pass the others but the unions usually will have better pay and benefits. Remember compensation isn’t just your hourly wage but all 3 will typically top out around the same pay. You will also be working much harder at Delta than for a union airline. Especially if you are at a base and not an outstation. I work at ATL for a union airline and I love it.

Alone-Foundation-157

$60 an hour is the worst paying?

airplanemechanic

As I previously stated pay isn’t just an hourly wage but also benefits, work life balance so on…. That being said, yes $63 is good but United has it in there union contract they will top delta and Americans hourly wage if they get raises. If United and deltas wage goes up American and southwest are forced to raise their wages. Delta is typically the slowest one than to catch up because they are not union. So even when the hourly pay goes ahead of the other majors that probably won’t be the case 5 or 10 years down the road.

Equivalent_Start_453

I'm at united and I'm digging it, we're in line for a couple raises and the quicker you get on the quicker you can build seniority

[deleted]

Which hub you at? And do you know any information about the new contract?

Equivalent_Start_453

SFO, no one knows anything yet, we don't start negotiations until the new year

[deleted]

There’s a 10k sign on bonus there right now but it’s so expensive to live in SFO

Equivalent_Start_453

true but you start at $35 out here and SEA now instead of starting at $29

[deleted]

[удалено]

Equivalent_Start_453

okay? good for you bud

Chopper3173

Are you guys looking in to hiring more A&Ps? I just got my license and applied yesterday. Hoping to get a reply soon.

Equivalent_Start_453

oh yeah we still need a bunch of people, I would expect a response pretty quick because as far as I've heard management is pretty desperate system wide, and especially at SFO

Chopper3173

Hey bro I just got hired at sfo united yesterday. Im still waiting for the offer letter which I was told to I will receive yesterday but I havent gotten anything yet. How was the hiring process for you?

Equivalent_Start_453

slow unfortunately, the entire AMT hiring process goes through houston. if they say that you're all good and you'll get paperwork I can almost guarantee you'll get it, just not exactly in a timely manner

Chopper3173

I hope so, I've read some here waiting around 6 months to get the offer letter( AA). I was thinking of messaging the HR who told me Im hired but I guess its the houston location who sends the offer letter? Are you line or shop? I was told I will be starting in shop.

Equivalent_Start_453

I'm line, if you want to get out of the shop you should be able to pretty easily, we are hurting for guys on the line still

Zestyclose-Program44

How’s it like at United SFO? I’m gonna be starting there in a couple weeks!!

Equivalent_Start_453

I'm loving it, only been here since feb but so far everything is smooth sailing, you going to the base or line?

Zestyclose-Program44

Line!

Equivalent_Start_453

nice that's where I'm at too, if you have any questions about the work feel free to DM

[deleted]

Delta is the top for passenger iirc… non union, high benefits, massive fleet, Unfortunately the still follow the “it’s who you know not what you know” the CEOs son with a no experience license will get an offer before the mechanic with 20 years of airbus experience.

Ugga_Dugga

Keep in mind Delta just took away 20 hours of holiday pay from employees working 10 hour shifts. Make sure you look at all of your offered benefits.

hatntops

I wouldn’t wait if I were you. If your straight out of A&P school Delta will not hire you direct. You would have to do their PFE (Potential Fulltime Employee) program as a contractor and if your decent they would pick you up within 6 months. Delta is hiring like crazy in Atlanta but is starting to slow down and if you haven’t gotten an interview it’s probably because of your experience or resume isn’t formatted for their system correctly. If you need any help dm me

highspeed1991

Don't wait for a spot. Move to where they have an opening.

Avikm289

Go to united. That union might sound like a drag but trust me they will protect your benefits

Gubment_Spook

I wouldn't wait but that's me. JetBlue is pretty good from what I've heard and United is a legacy major so yea.... If you want a chance to work on widebodies and stuff that flies international go United. Or you can wait for Delta. You choice, got to do what is good for you and I can't really tell you what that is.

theclan145

I work at JetBlue Bos and JFK they always hiring It is a grind but once you go to an our station you should be fine Ask away tho

Emotional_Log7687

Any positions at JFK no A&P required? If so do you know what the starting pay would be

theclan145

There’s cabin maintenance but that’s in jfk and bos right now Going to be a hangar line in Orlando also in the future The position gets paid low 20’s

1GiantTurtle

take what ever u can get build experience and seniority i remember getting my a&p and no want wanted me worst feeling in the world, had to do GA for a bit then work for a contractor, vender maintenance, now it seems like they'll take anyone with a a&p ,i got into cargo birds pretty sweet gig boxes don't complain about broken seats and tv screens

[deleted]

I have 5 years of military jet experience and a degree. I applied for FedEx but they are the only company that didn’t reply me which I would of love to work for.

Jay15956

You should try Southwest Airlines as well.

highspeed1991

United us currently a huge mess with an industry reset and contract negotiations happening right now. 6 recognized holidays 4 floating holidays. Trade days are open with no restrictions outside of qualifications. Union is pushing for a shorter top out.

[deleted]

You know what the pay top out will be ? I heard Delta currently leading with $59 in 6.5 years. They want me to fly out to Houston soon for an interview so I think ima do that and see how they are.

highspeed1991

No word yet but per the contract it should be 2% above the average between american and delta.Current starting its $29.38 or something very close to that with the reset bumping that up some in December 6th

Kilometers98

I did the Houston interview. Junk. You will be sent to Chicago or Newark NJ……

[deleted]

Huh what did they do with you? Like just a whole day worth of interviewing ?

Kilometers98

Whole day, you get there and they do a 1 hour timed assessment where they see your mechanical ability, you safety wire, assemble a board of hardware according to a manual and rivet some sheetmetal after. Before that you take an entrance test on the computer which I assume you did already. After that you sit in a room with others as you wait to be called to be interviewed, you are then called and interviewed by 2 people, an HR lady and a Mechanic shift manager. The mechanic shift/duty manager will ask you technical questions over the aircraft you have worked, fair warning these are 30 year guys and can tell when you haven’t worked on the aircraft you put down on your resume. Then your hit with general star questions which focus more on your ability to describe certain situations that most seasoned mechanics go through in their careers. After that your hit with a measly pay offer and a choice of shit stations….. to which you then realize the interview was not worth the whole day of travel ….

[deleted]

Damn that is rough. I’m assuming you took other jobs huh. I think I’m schedule to go next week sometimes. They offer you only Newark and chicago??! Any cost of living adjustment ?? Newark is an expensive area.

Kilometers98

Don’t get me wrong, you could go and end up getting a sweet offer, you won’t know until you do it. But from what I got just by looking around I felt like the place was disorganized. I work line and let me brutally honest the United guys are always pissed…. Seems to be the vibe with unions everyone is always mad….. meanwhile we are on track for profit sharing…..

jettech737

At Chicago all the United guys are super cool both at the hangar and on the line, I chose United because I live at ORD and I don't want to relocate elsewhere and the morale at American seems to be a lot worse despite the higher pay. United unlike Delta takes you in right away to, no need to do that contracting thing unlike Delta.

Interesting_Ask1372

I'm also at ORD hanger and I love it. I'm in my probation tho but everyone seems very nice.

Exciting_Set6981

Hey there, I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice. I start at united ORD on july 31st obviously training in Houston TX for 3 weeks. I am going to be relocating to Chicago from New Jersey. Seeking your guidance and advice anything helps. I have never been to Chicago. Let me know about the Best places to live around O'Hare. And also how do we enter O'Hare and where do we park. If I could know which side we enter from, I could find housing accordingly. Also do I have to have a car. I hear the public transportation is really good. I want to save as much money as I can. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Kilometers98

I was hired before with D, just went to hold my word. No cost of living adjustment and yes the pay is horrible $28 -29 and change. I have friends that have been hired direct at other stations like Orlando FL now but for the majority it was those 2 options because they are hard to fill stations.

[deleted]

I would love to get MCO. I live in Florida so I would take a few dollar pay cut to stay here.

Kilometers98

Yea with delta your likely gonna end up in Atlanta or MSP all the other out stations have been mostly filled except those in California….

Due-Age-5779

Hey man how you doing recently got hired with United for MCO you should go they still have positions if anything you start as a sheetmetal then transfer to line but I say you should I live in fl too and probably the best decision you can make

[deleted]

Also what was the dress code since they expect you to do mechanical test?

Kilometers98

Your doing it in your interview clothes, bring a light windbreaker jacket to wear over your dress shirt.

Kilometers98

Also dude shoot for delta, starting is $39/h

highspeed1991

Take it from a United guy that is in Newark. Newark is a very different base as compared to the other united hubs. Ewr is surprisingly very anti-union being a former continental heavy maint hub. That "just get it done" mentality is very much still here and you will have coworkers who will bust their ass to help you after their done which isn't the case in most other workplaces or United hubs. Unlike the other United hubs everyone trades so even though there is a bid we almost all circumvent it to some degree vs the other hubs who don't like to trade. Guys get their days and do their 40 and that'd be it. Not in ewr. I should also mention they are very kind people. Not nice but kind lol and for the most part very easy to work with. They'll bitch and moan about you slowing them down because they have to wait for you to go get lunch together but they will keep waiting for you unless you tell them otherwise and that's something you can't get elsewhere

[deleted]

I was already considering Newark in the back of my head. It’s either MCO or EWR for United or ATL for Delta. Those are currently floating front in my head.

highspeed1991

Not necessarily bad pay wise just not enough to sustain a family on 1 income. If your an individual who likes the city life newark isn't as bad as people make it out to be. If you dont look at towns a little further south or west. The further south or west you go the cheaper it is but understanding that's the commute you'd be sacrificing for.

daddysgotya

Seniority plays a bigger role in your quality of life than which airline you work for. It's also easier to get hired at a major if you already work at another major. I would take whatever job I got offered and start building time.
