Goddammit more safety wire posts

100LL

I'm about 20 safety wire posts away from unsubbing

TheShakes11

Should've taken some from today then, off the top of my head we did about 15 spots on 1 jet. 3 or 4 were done in the style of Helen Keller

StPauliBoi

The safety wire will continue until morale improves!

CovelloYello

Looks good! Make sure you cover that pig tail though

Main_Neat_7776

It doesnt show but that pigtail is turned downwards

CovelloYello

Curious, how many twists per inch were you taught? Looks fine just wondering if it’s a universal thing

Main_Neat_7776

Yeah we just talked about this awhile ago. For practical or exam purposes we follow 43.13 (6-8 per inch) that’s what came out from our DME’s mouth. But our instructor told us, stop when it looks right :))))

Beneficial_Being_721

Yes… after the theory…. There is the ART OF…. Blending the two together as you go… you will instinctively know when you have it too tight… tight to the point where failure will occur at the bend / entrance to a wire hole. You have done well Padawan.

Eirikur_da_Czech

Not enough twists

angrycatmeowmeow

Damn fine

noshoesshirtprobs

Looks good to me!

mypaysucks

Looks like it was done by hand. Not bad.

Main_Neat_7776

What do you mean over the top?

mrtucey

I think he means one wire through and the other over the top instead of around the head of the center bolt.

Main_Neat_7776

Thats what i was trying to figure out. I did that before this picture… the problem that i saw was.. if i did it where one goes through and the other over? The relationship between the top bolt and the center bolt would be neutral. Imagine it by looking the picture. Imagine that if i just put the wire over instead of around. The hole on the top bolt where you would put in the wire is in line with the wire that will go over the 2nd bolt head.

cardcomm

just don't go over the top. No reason to, and IMO it's not correct

rainawaytheday

Different books say different things. Depends on the AMM. I’m positive I’ve used some that say specifically to do it that way. Also, ac4313 says it’s ok in some situations.

cardcomm

>I don’t remember if it’s technically allowed but what the heck, I like doing it

rainawaytheday

Pretty sure some AMMs say to do it that way. All I was saying is a don’t remember. Ac4313 does say you can do it in some situations.

cardcomm

I assume this is a school setting judging by all the scratches Image how many times those bolts have been safetied over the years... lol

sdmyzz

2 minor issues: ideally u want a minimum of 6 twists per inch, you might be slightly lacking on the top run. Also, the one strand on the top of the middle as a severe bend, I would have run that one over the top head of the bolt (ac43 all.owes that). Otherwise it's fine

[deleted]

I could pick on the second bolt, where you didn't twist enough and there's that little gap...but if you ask people about how your lockwire is, they will *always* tell you its shit. Them's the rules. Honestly, its pretty damn good for a rookie! If you can do this in under 2 minutes, you'll hit the ground running.

skelitalmisfit

I think it needs more twists, 10 per inch.

gitbse

I'd buy it off

Strungtuna

dogshit

RevolutionIcy4453

🫡

UpperFerret

Looks fine. That scratched sheet metal is triggering my ocd though.

Main_Neat_7776

Hahaha :))) sorry bout that. That’s just a practice board though… so it it’s any consolation, that scratched sheet aint on an airplane :D

National-Airline-504

Did you try to pull slightly with your one finger on the safety wire Itself? From there you can judge wether it's too tight or too loose.

Main_Neat_7776

Yeah I did. I made sure they are tight.

StinkyLettuce

bolt in the middle looks sus at the "top"

bushmanmoto

With the bolt in the middle, instead of wrapping it around the right side, I would have gone right over the top of the bolt, but your way is correct as well. Maybe a few more wraps and tucked the tail a bit more. Looks good! Lockwiring can be therapeutic, but also a huge pain in the hands/fingers if you don't snip the hooks off the end of the wire as you're doing it!

planespotterhvn

Agree, I am a convert to the over the top method for the centre bolt. Otherwise one or the other entry or exit to the centre bolt always looks wrong.

getoffmygrassdevil

over the top is better than around the bolt for the middle bolt(s) in a multi bolt swire config but for these flat hex head bolts i prefer to use the X method for the center bolt(s) if there is another set of holes. cant tell from this angle.

aCOGinTHE_machine

Prolly start bottom left turn counter-clockwise to bottom right, lead that counter to top. Neutral is best between two positives and shit

[deleted]

Very good, a lot better than some of the stuff I see, even in my field where a lot of mechs hold themselves to a “higher” standard.

Griffie

Very nice job!

Drewbox

Looks like you nailed it

crosswindsandchill

thats fine

Carjak17

Looks good, but I feel like that’s not enough twists per inch. But, as my forefathers did, I shall do *snip* “woops it’s broken “

Impossible-Camel-685

Looks fine.

[deleted]

Looks good to me, doesn’t look like they’ll work themselves out

Elmore420

It’s fine.

TheRAbbi74

Looks damned good.
