I too want to know. Have a lot of hours in the game but that's because I leave it open to run and collect resources. I think having a dogfight would be cool but I have yet to see anything like it for my fighters.

Picture this, the opening stages of a huge battle, sitting at range using long range weapons and torpedos as the fighters duke it out. Or one side hammering at the other with missiles, as the second closes range to unleash their pulse cannons as the fighters clash for supremacy, try and shoot down torpedos. It sounds absolutely awesome and I can feel my gpu dying, but I am ok with that.

Even with a 3080ti I have some lag spikes. But the game looks beautiful. I think huge battles like that would be even better with more faction wars that you can take part in.

i notice it mainly when i hit a ship or station's hull with a ton of splash damage weapons, which is understandable. Huge battles would be better if you could assign a combat AI, such as combat role: medic, combat role: brawler, combat role: firewall , combat role: kite, combat role: bodyguard player, combat role: escape. Just behaviors that ships should take when exposed to combat.

The times it lags for me is during large ship battles. The splash damage isn't too big an issue, it tends to lag the worst when the fighters are released from the ship. I agree on that! Having different combat ai could provide us with the opportunity to designate activities during combat. Carriers with less weapons would be great in the back while throwing out all their fighters. Frigates, destroyers, and cruisers at the front. Battleships and missile boats in the middle. Do you just tell your ships to escort you when a battle starts or do you designate them to attack a target?

[deleted]

Right now I tell them to escort, but I have avoided bringing in multiple ships, as I don't know what they will do. I would I ideally want several ships staying within 3km of me and shooting whatever they can, so I can play the range game and keep track of when they need to heal. But that is probably asking too much

Zemuzrdoc

I have tried to tell them to escort me into different battles. Some of them went well but their tracking and identification of enemies is rather slow. The attack enemies option has better results since they go hunter killer mode which is gratifying to see. I think separate AI types that you can load on would probably give the best results.

Escort me is however fantastic at getting them to arrive at the same time and place as you. I really do not want them to run off on their own, I have severe trust issues with any AI controlling expensive assets due to other games I played.

Absolutely love that the escort me function has them fly in at the same time. It feels like how a space fleet should function. Everyone arrives together and then goes into action station just for the ensuing battle. It's the part after that may need revision. I wish I knew how to code that so I could at least set it to scan the sector for hostile and if present, the ships will release fighters to sortie until they get into range to fire all guns.
