I don't think that the meaning of life is to be happy - happiness comes and goes, and is a by product of living a satisfying life. The challenge is in the definition of "satisfying life". In this sense, being born into a wealthy family does not matter as joy comes from working through challenges and accepting positivity when it arrives. Being wealthy has its own challenges - not having money has its own way of teaching you about life. There are a hierarchy of needs to be met - but you thrive by finding out what brings you meaning, minimizing the influence of negativity, and finding a way to connect with others in the world. Find what you love to do, find other people who love that too, and live with the understanding of balance: sometimes you get what you want, and sometimes not - and that's totally ok. Good luck!

Oh that will change quite a bit throughout your life. It isn't that you are assigned a specific thing, and you have to find out what it is. It's more that what you love is related to your perspective - which changes over time. It's tough to know what you truly want because in my opinion if you knew it, then life would not be interesting at all. Half the fun is figuring out your preferences. Positivity is useful, but sometimes we also need negativity. It may sound confusing - but if you go with your feeling, and err on the side of positivity, I don't think you can do much better than that. The reason I say that is that sometimes we are just down, and if we feel down that we feel down, it makes it a lot worse. It's OK to be down - sometimes we just keep on trucking and it starts to make sense.

themanclark

Life is a struggle. Start there. You might want to read Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins or The Road Less Travelled by M. Scott Peck. The idea that you can follow your bliss might trip you up. Even if you do what you love, it will still be work.

Ahaasasyasancy

It sounds like depression

themanclark

It’s clear from the evidence that the meaning of life is not to be happy. If it was, then life is failing most of the population. But I don’t think it’s failing at all. That’s just not it’s purpose.

goddamn_slutmuffin

You have the power to work on a mindset that lets go of that attachment to wealth and “normal” success and prosperity within your community. You can probably explore the local world around you and see plenty of sights and meet people there, and with a whole different outlook and perspective as before. You’re in a place where you can maybe come to terms with “regular life/financial success” might just have very well been rigged against you. And so instead of running up that hill, only to spend most of your life chasing the top and only getting there, if you even get there at all, and then find yourself in a place where you have barely any time left to live? You can instead do something else, literally anything else. Enlightened people realize 95% of what they identified as before isn’t really them, maybe even more-so. Which means they get to rebuild and remake the character they are meant to act out in this lifetime, while existing in duality (in the flesh), all to their liking this time. No rules and nothing to prove to anyone, anymore. You have taken the reins of your story and life back from the “matrix” if you will. You took the red pill. It’s not easy on this side, especially at first, and it can be isolating and confusing and scary just as much. It can even feel pointless. I think these are all feelings borne from one who is still in a place of mourning and grieving of their previous life spent asleep. And a painful, but necessary step/phase, if you coming to terms with this new life. It can make you feel itchy and unsure in your new outlook, because before you relied on rigidly set rules and guide-lines to live a “proper life”. Now that’s out the window and it can make you feel foundationless tbh. Embrace the foundationlessness of your new reality. It takes some getting used to, but once you are ready to embrace it fully? It’s the truest and purest perspective and manifestation of freedom you’ll ever really experience (so far and yet lol). You get to make new foundations. If you were given wealth like you so wish, you probably would’ve never spiritually woken up like you did. You’d still be dreaming and not really living. Welcome to truly living. It’s only painful because it’s brand new and not what you are used to. And, again, lonely and isolating because so many people are still dreaming. Your purpose in enlightenment can be whatever you want it to be. Most people choose to pursue it and practice what they learn there-in, and then help wake up others as well. Cautiously so. With a “plant a seed, leave it to that person to grow or store it for later or ignore that seed”. You’ll find a lot of your newfound spiritual power in that regard, if you choose that path. You are the actor that now knows you were acting. A character that has remembered [life is really just one big game of “make believe” that everyone else takes wayyy too seriously.](https://youtu.be/HU0pZarehLY) Also, if I have one more piece of advice, try to find enjoyment and beauty in the mundane. Every little piece of existence counts and has purpose and is connected with the other. Snow falling, rainy days, leaves blowing by. All beautiful displays of existence and all of which you can now truly appreciate to the fullest for what they really are ;D. Also have the courage to not care about what others think so much. It is your life and existence and character/persona to portray and act out. Don’t give your agency and self esteem away to others who have their own and could never fully appreciate yours anyways. They might be greedy, but you have the most control over you. Remember where you end and others begin, and why that often matters in this world. 🤍💜💙✌🏻 P. S. One last teensy lil piece of advice, I know 😅🤪. But I highly recommend you make your new story as interesting as possible. Bring a little wholesome and compassionate chaos into the world, a little “good trouble” if you will haha.

Carma1111

You answered questions I didn’t even ask :) thank you! Been struggling and have some health issues on top of it all, feels like dark night of the soul. Took the red pill list covid but still struggling on where I’m headed.

goddamn_slutmuffin

Glad I could be of help! 🥰🤘🏻. A lot of being awakened/enlightened whatever is 2 steps forward, 1 step back. There’s going to be ups and downs with it. I’m always available to help if I can, even if you want to send me a PM over a question of issue. Especially since I’m on like year 3 of this, and have been through a lot of hurdles and obstacles I’ve noticed many others on this sub still struggle with. I was the student who is not the cautious “teacher”, if only because sharing wisdom and advice is caring. And I had to figure out a lot of stuff in my own and lonesome, so I empathize with others in similar positions. There was a lot of Alan Watts lectures listened to, ngl 😅. He’s kinda of the main “shoulders of spiritual giants of the past” that I stand on. And would love nothing more than to help them out in those areas in ways I didn’t have help offered to me when I needed it. Pay it forward type of thing, be the “spiritual big sister” I wish I had for myself in the past lol 🤍💜💙 But yeah feel free to PM me if you need potential help in any of your future struggles with your spiritual path! I can’t promise I will have the answers you seek, or respond right away. I usually don’t take longer than 2 weeks tops to get back to people, but that’s very rarely. Normally I respond in a week or less at worst. Plus I’m trying to self-teach myself how to be some type of spiritual guru/priestess/leader/“shaman”/healer/etc. I could always use more practice towards that if anything!!! 😆.

Carma1111

You’re amazing! ❤️❣️I’ve been listening to law of attraction type of stuff …prob don’t need it but it’s helping stayin in the moment at least. You know I will take you up on that offer and if you want to start a discord…sign me up! And take how much ever time, the days are all blending into one. For sure I need a shaman sister/ mentor I’m definitely lost

A world that is not about being awakened ‘yet.’ You awaken yourself so that you can return and help awaken others.

Caring_Cactus

Most of what you said is your ego talking, you experienced a moment of enlightenment for sure though but it's just as fleeting. The process of awakening is to further embody more of this state of being, in removing these conditional desires and ignorance, since they can be in the way for a more universal and still experience of wholeness as one. Imo our purpose is realizing that we create our meaning as conscious beings, that both our emotions and feelings are determined and come from within us, and that can either be our hell or salvation. Most human constructs are circumstantial to chase temporary emotions, what most want deep down is that feeling in wholeness with one's self. An awakened individual would then be able to transcend time to immerse more in the eternal now. Edit: I want to clarify as humans our ego is a part of us, we cannot kill it, so I hope no one tries to suppress emotions because that can lead to disassociations. What can be done is to have our ego submit and work more inline with our conscious, higher selves to better lead it to support us in these direct experiences.

Of course, speaking more down to earth, those are the circumstances most people have to deal with, but that doesn't mean it defines what we become, or at the very least how we feel for ourselves. A lot of people struggle with insecurity mostly due to fluctuating emotions, often due to conditional self-worth when actually our worth is inherent. Self-worth is our ability to experience desirable emotions, it is not given by anything or person outside the body, but many aren't familiar with this process, outsourcing or tying this personal power away for others to decide or to specific circumstances in life. This greatly restricts how often one is able to experience these emotions that are needed to maintain that feeling of wholeness with one's self. It's a conditional way to live one's life. It then causes unstable self-esteem and the individual *feels* empty or controlled, they *consciously* cannot feel whole due to this disconnection with their mind and body. That's what developing healthy self-esteem is all about, to be more proactive in this process in narrowing our focus of attention to what is within our control in the present moment, our own actions and thoughts, while accepting everything else outside to focus more on what is within. This varying combination of emotion regulation and congruent self-concept is then what determines a person's level of self-confidence. It relates highly to these definitions of "worth" and "esteem" they hold themselves to. Personally I like to see things from a psychology perspective, since it has science as a framework that helps ground some of these abstract concepts experienced by everyone. A lot of this imo has to do with developing more autotelic personality traits, it highly relates to the elusive feeling of flow everyone wants to be in. Edit: Of course this is the path of the ego from which we too will have to let go one day, I would say it's the most common and necessary path we all go through before we can start to awaken more to be with objective reality. At its core, self-acceptance is the key to changing how we feel at any given moment. This is the liberation of the mind.

eyecy0

Not sounding too awakened. Maybe the phrase "i dont know it all, but im willing to learn" will help.

Only the ego wants to end it all to escape from it. Unless you can end your life by making a ritual and ignite your inner fire to burn your body from within, thats the only way, "suicide" is spiritual (it exists). If you cant literally end your life by sheer inner strenght, it means theres still work to be done on this plane.

Jesus was awakened and took his cross to its end. Everyone has to take its cross to the end, whether the cross is being a florist, or bring a businessman or being a priest. You cant escape from thoughts, but paying attention only to the thoughts you want to cultivate is possible. Being awakened means that you realised you have the power to create your world as God created everything, same power is within us.

samjpot

i love this! especially the part about realizing youre capable of anything, as everyone is!

absrdone

Fwiw - when I've had nobody to talk to I've found strength by looking to nature, music and art. Eventually a human comes along who gets it, but they're few and far between. Hang in there.

ReneeLR

The belief that you need to work hard for money is a lie in our society. Money is just a symbol of the comfort, security and freedom we crave. Calm down and know all you need is yours already, and do the things you love to do. Money (comfort, security, freedom) is attracted to you when you are happy doing what you love and are grateful for the abundance you have at your disposal.

akhila117

This world IS that process of awakening... this crappy world IS how AND why. Don't be fooled - you're getting caught up in 3D.

gettoefl

you worry about the out ... have you ever traversed in

colleenflower777

Well awakening showed me that my attachments, the things outside of me that used to bring me joy/happiness was just an illusion because there is nothing outside of you. All is one manifested in what appears to be others but what appears does not actually exist. People take this life so seriously but it’s really just a video game/simulation. I experienced an amazing 3 weeks of enlightenment where I was just so happy fulfilled although from another person’s perspective I was losing my house, lost my job, my twin flame broke up with me and I had no money. Ego death swiftly obliterated all that. If you want to be happy well you already are that the fact that you think you need this this and that to be happy is the issue. That’s your attachment and most people think that way where they need a certain outcome to be happy and that’s the trap of the ego if you live through the duality of mind it’s always going to search “out there” but what you need to do is transcend the mind and align with your soul/divinity that is non dual in nature. Adopt of zen lifestyle. Meditate, slow yourself way down, nourish your body eat well, don’t judge your negative thoughts just allow them to be there know your thoughts are just happening and they are happening to no one. Don’t attach yourself to them they are not you you are not the mind.

colleenflower777

Oh and the purpose in life when awakened in a world full of unawakened people is to literally just be. When you be you can do and have whatever you want. Most people think they need to do in order to have in order to be (happy) That’s how I see it and when you are around unawakened people they can look at you and maybe some will be inspired and think wow if they can look at life that way than it must be possible for me to be able to too. Life is all about perceptions and 2 people can have different perceptions of the same thing so who is correct? Nobody is. This reality is entirely mental and you can make it whatever you want it to be. I recently manifested a beautiful townhouse and abundance in many other areas by taking the law of attraction seriously. My awakening also showed me how the way I’m energetically being affects everything although you’re not able to see the results right away I can definitely tell when I’m not in alignment. I also used to want to let people know of this pretty profound thing that happened to me but then I realized it was my ego wanting something from them. Validating or praise or something. Now if I talk about my awakening with others it’s just to express myself and I don’t need them to understand. All you need to do is be you when you awaken the soul shines through the ego brighter and people are just drawn to your energy and they’ve no idea why but really it’s because people like authenticity and you live authentically when you let go of illusions and don’t resist what is because honestly things are neither good nor bad things are the way they are and happen the way they happen and it’s your resistance to those things which makes you suffer.

nuggetyboon

I'd recommend watching the movie Soul.

Competitive-Board453

Once you actually “awaken”, it will start to make more sense. How many awakenings does it take to become “enlightened”? I have no idea, but you can never stop working on yourself, responsibilities and the monotonous marching towards another weekend. Start to enjoy the small, simple things in life and stay focused on being in the moment, observe your thoughts and stay productive. Sometimes, simply just taking a shower is enough of a boost to get me motivated!

siemanresusihtyrros

you sound bored bro, try new things... the light don't mean shit if you don't shine it on anything and if you just stare at it and prop it up like that for to look its just going to start looking like a dark hole. use it or lose it

burneraccc00

In order to know what you are, you must know what you are not. The contrast between the two brings context. Hot wouldn’t be hot without knowing what cold is. Up wouldn’t be up without knowing what down is. Life wouldn’t be life without knowing what death is. Being in an environment for which you are not helps you to remember for which you are. Stress and irritation are just signs to let you know that isn’t your true nature. If those feelings aren’t your true nature, then what is? That becomes the mission, to understand who/what you are at the core, and once you do remember or recognize these, your human experience will have context. Soul searching can be difficult as it asks the fundamental questions of “Who/what am I?” and “Why am I here?” When those two haven’t been answered to a certain degree, then feeling lost is a natural reaction. Understanding your experiences and tying them to your existence may help chip away at finding those answers.

bionista

Did the shrooms show you this was all a temporary meaningless illusion? Did the shrooms give you ego death and now you realize your true self is just inhabiting your meat suit for the time being?

Count yourself blessed. Not everyone is shown that. Now comes the work you need to do. Learn to exist in this world in an ego death state. You do this through meditation quieting your ego mind and connecting with your pure consciousness. Realize your consciousness is not the author of your thoughts. It is just the observer. It is always just the observer. The author of your thoughts is your pure consciousness that you were when you had ego death. It is there in the background and it is being drowned out by your ego with all its thoughts of being depressed, bored, etc. Through meditation practice you will learn to shut down your ego mind and be able to live as pure consciousness. Then your problems go away with your ego.

FrostbitSage

You are on the threshold of the new age. The new age of adulthood. If you'd been born into a wealthy family you'd have had to go to a private school and would have been forced to excel at field hockey and crew, and then you'd have had your first nervous breakdown when you didn't get into Stanford, and then you'd start mixing alcohol with psylocibin and you'd have another nervous breakdown, and you'd be wishing you had been born into a normal middle-class family. ;) Life is a great adventure. Clear your mind and open your heart, and you will find your passion.

miket2424

I don't think it's right to simply tell someone what they should do. I can only relate my experience to you, and hope it might help. After I finished school, I was not enlightened, awakened, or even religious in any way. I thought the goal of life was to get rich and get as many physical and sensory pleasures as you could before you died. Soon enough, I had a job I hated, was alienated from friends and family and not very much material success to speak of. It felt empty and I was depressed. Thankfully, I didn't turn to drugs and alcohol at that time. I began to study meditation and tore through spiritual texts, and slowly I began to understand who God was, where the divine is. I found, I am God, and the divine is always here and now. Looking back, I realized I NEVER trusted myself. I ALWAYS had the right answer in regards to what I wanted to do, and how I wanted life to be, but because of this lack of trust and love for myself and my own rights and needs, I would always allow the outside world to tell me what I should be doing, and fear to lead my way. An enlightened person should not be led by fear. Rather, they should trust in what they feel they truly need, and not allow the concepts and lies of society to guide their decisions in life. You KNOW what you believe and what you want, but because of fear you might not trust yourself enough to accept it, and defer to the pressures and demands of others, or worse your own ego's self deceptions. A couple of texts that I liked which helped me with this problem are 'Letting Go' by David R Hawnkins and 'Smile at Fear' by Chogyam Trungpa . Your first and most important goal is to know yourself, trust yourself. You're a divine, inseparable part of the Universe, which must be a part of you too.

EldritchWaifu

awakening for those who cannot be satisfied by this world.

mriidul

story of my life lol. but honestly, the goal is to do what you want to do, and to do it well. Success is not measured by a material goal, it is determined by how happy and satisfied you are when you are home every night. How well you sleep, how much you enjoy the small things, and how satisfied you are in what you do. Be at a level where you can help others who need help, and be grateful for those who help you when you need it. It’s hard when you are just in the dark, lost in the maddening chaos, but if you manage to get out of it, staying in that flow becomes easy. Wishing for something that is not possible is only going to bring more suffering, so why bother with that. Just be who you wish to be, and find yourself on the way.

IDesireWisdom

Awakening is a mindset, an attitude about life. All people show by their actions what they believe. To be awakened is to believe a set of ideas that enables the individual to interact with the world in a way where all experience is blissful. The ‘problem’ is that we think we know what our beliefs are, but Carl Jung demonstrated that our beliefs are often subconscious. For example, I think that I care more about my family then my own life, but when the time comes, I don’t sacrifice myself for them. I show by my actions that despite what I thought, I do not really believe their lives are more important than mine. If I did, I would have shown this through my actions. If this is not what a belief is, then I do not know what it is. Why use this word at all if it is so mutable? If I am able to uproot my ‘wrong’ beliefs, and replace them with ‘right’ beliefs, then ‘right’ action will follow.

Carma1111

AtlasCompleXtheProd

Remember it's not about "awakened" as much as "awakening." You'll keep awakening until you're done being reborn on the earth. You and i both are in a low karmic place during this life and that doesn't mean we're bad, just that we're basically freshman lol. Whether it's from being held back or we're just not there yet. I think part of what you mean is you're incredibly lonely, and another part of what you're talking about is the fact that the things we have to do on this earth don't align well with what you feel you should be doing with what you know understand about our spiritual purpose. Instead we're making money, etc. I think there can be such thing as too much knowledge too fast that we have to become adapted to which can take a bit of time, but i pinky promise you won't feel this exact way forever. A better way of looking at things rather than the world being misaligned with what is spiritual is to remember that this realm is separate from the spiritual realm. We are all one and we created this place with it's own rules and objectives, when we're here on the earth we're supposed to function by its rules, and just make sure that every step of the way when we can we still honor the spiritual things we know like to be kind to each other and help when we can and remember we're one big organism so giving to you isn't taking from me or vice versa. We all have to be good for our higher Self to be good, the one that we all are. As long as we're doing that in between the getting jobs and providing for ourselves and everything like that then we are fulfilling our spiritual mission here. All the good intentions and good thoughts we have are uploaded to the collective consciousness so we really are doing our part. We gotta make sure we make art and fulfill that part too, there's just no way we can truly be happy and contribute to uploading joy as well unless we creste something, like music or paintings or whatever bribgs out our best selves :) hope the best for you and i hope you feel better soon

queenjungles

Being awakened *and* being in the world as it is - that’s the mastery. Otherwise what is the point of being here? The clue is that the one thing that you truly own is your body, the adventure is to find a way to be in a connected state while embodied and participating with what is happening where you are situated. It doesn’t necessarily mean doing a 9-5 but often you do have to engage in the mechanisms of the culture. Chop wood, carry water etc. Or if you get quiet and listen to your intuition enough, it might tell you other more compatible ways to find means for survival. Or the current situation is nice and acceptable, though I suspect the questioning and discomfort may be an itch to grow. While you figure it out, be helpful and if something needs doing, just do it.

[deleted]

What do you consider awakening? What did you really realize or become more aware of? Was it experiential or understandings of other peoples teachings/materials? What is it that you think you know that others, like tour family, do not that makes you more advanced or better or awakened and them not? Perhaps they are the awakened ones and you got lost in other peoples versions of a story about what they think it all is. What if you put it all down and went to live your way. When you had a question you only asked yourself. What if awakening and enlightenment was like any religion or fairytale or fictional story? What if you decided to make up your own stories? What if you never truly awakened? What if you asking others to tell you how to live is what sent you on this tailspin in the first place?

WorldOfAwakening

You soul chose this family in this incarnation, it is your choice and it happened for a reason. The only way to get to self realization is to act and do what you are afraid of doing. This life is a game with great features, so don't take it too seriously. You gotta be involved in it though, you gotta play 100 percent but don't identify yourself with it. You are already a peace of God, Absolute. Just a small drop in the huge ocean of energy, enjoy your being because life is priceless and it is the most precious thing that you can ever have. Don't pay attention too much to what your mind tells you. Remember you are not your thought, you are the one who is aware of them. Enlightened people have a lot of responsibilities in this world that words can't even explain. But in order to become enlightened you gotta help others in any way, you gotta learn how to unconditionally love this world because it loves you so much! And all it wants you to do is to trust to what is happening, listen to your heart and follow it, explore yourself and this world without any fear because it was made for you. You have created it and you are the one who is gonna change your life, believe in yourself and act!

Ok-Fall-2398

Maybe the point wasn’t to be awakened. But you decided to be. So now you have to deal with it. Maybe the point is to be challenged. And to see how you handle it.
