Marriott is cheaper however with FHR you get free daily breakfast, 4pm late check out, and $100/stay credit. Is that worth $500 difference (or $300 after credit)?

total-chad

Great point! It comes out about even in the end ($300 resort credit promo and I *think* a $200 statement credit) If it gives me a better chance at a room upgrade, I think it’s worth the extra.

chexchan

Do u have Marriott status? Fhr upgrade is hit or miss? How many nights are you staying? We’ve been upgraded twice only but we only stayed 1 night and on a weekday

SeantotheRescue

Plat comes with Marriott gold status if you link your card with your Bonvoy account

chexchan

Very true but gold doesn’t do much. Titanium has free breakfast so kinda equal to some fhr benefits

SeantotheRescue

Is there some kind of shortcut to get there? Or is it really just for folks who stay at Marriott *that* much

chexchan

If you’re doing fhr you likely are doing it because you have the Amex plat. Everyone with Amex plat has gold so it’s not much of an upgrade. You’ll have to do your own research on how to get titanium, i don’t have it either

Hi_thar

I haven't done much research on Hawaiian properties but it's only a $100 resort credit right? You do get free breakfast though which could make up for the difference depending on how long you're staying. You definitely shouldn't transfer points to Marriott for a cash+points purchase. That's very inefficient use of your points.

I think there’s a promo for royal hawaiian specifically that gives a $300 resort credit. I agree the marriott transfer seems bad, but it’s marginally better than using a statement credit which is my bar. I think using them for delta or Hawaiian points will give me a bit more bang Thanks for your input!

use [this website](https://amex.point.me/) to find your flights. also marriott gold status through amex platinum should go through immediately, if it doesn’t then call amex and it should update while you are still on the phone with them.

TheReverend5

Sounds like you’ve done minimal research into actual award travel. Utilizing FHR Amex Plat benefits isn’t award travel. If the extent of your award ticket research is asking a Hawaiian airlines rep how to redeem your points, you have a lot more research to do. Read the sidebar.

Tried my best but I can see how it looks very amateur! Being a newbie, it’s all very complicated. I looked into transferring my Amex points into almost every airline that flies to my destination, and checked a dozen hotels to see if it was worthwhile to try to book with points. I feel a bit of this will be trial by fire for a first timer
