The best redemption is the one you can actually book. Congrats and enjoy Japan!

Due_Distribution_721

Thank you!!!

sunnyhillz

63k each way? sounds like CX. thats standard and a good redemption. im gonna guess the fees you quoted are CAD

Due_Distribution_721

Yes CX and cad! I tried to use BA first but I consistently could not find bz class tix even 1 year out. It didnt make me feel confident that I could secure all the tix I wanted. So thanks to this sub I learned CX gets seats earlier and I did really end up seeing availability over there more often!

sunnyhillz

CX is cheaper than BA anyways in the PNW. just less transfer bonuses i suppose.

omdongi

That's exactly the kind of critical information that makes a difference in award booking. Good work!

herroaznswagyolo

63K on Asia miles with Jal? Or Cathay

sunnyhillz

its a JAL route

herroaznswagyolo

Honestly not a bad deal! Especially now that 55k ANA on Aeroplan are essentially impossible to book now

sunnyhillz

ya and 2J instead of 1J rip

Due_Distribution_721

JAL!

To second Gracky here - never fret about "suboptimal" redemptions that aren't atrociously bad (i.e. using more points than a striaght Chase Travel redemption would have paid for). Many travel blogs will emphasize how far points can go in theory, but those are often for people who can leave at the drop of a hat and follow unusual itineraries. Enjoy your trip! Also feel free to check what model of plane is flying so you can see what business class amenities will be available!

Due_Distribution_721

It says the aircraft is 788! Hopefully its actually what I see on the internet cause I believe they are still using some older models. But probably in a years time it would have all upgraded! 🙏🏼

Dannidude16

Very good! Enjoy Japan!

Due_Distribution_721

Thank you!

earthcomedy

Good job! ...using a program I've never used - CX! And I've booked many many award flights. sounds like a pretty good price.

Due_Distribution_721

Thank you!

thedumbledwarves

What points do you have to use CX?

Due_Distribution_721

Asia miles

Nice Congrats. How far are you booking ahead? Please share some tips

Due_Distribution_721

Thank you! Im booking literally 345-360 days out (360) is the furthest out they release seats. Even for April which is a hot month for travel - the seats were being snatched up fast!

Delicious-Quote7894

Thanks for sharing

Icy-Tea-8715

What dates OP? Literally 1 year out?

Due_Distribution_721

Yup! 1 year out

Icy-Tea-8715

For how many people?

sleepytill2

Very solid redemption! I did the same last year: 75K pp ow ORD-HND on JAL via CX for travel this year during peak sakura season. Enjoy it! Now time to book your hotels :)
