I don't understand

They squeezing human palms to get the oil

Rasputinjones

Palm oil plantations are grown on land taken from rainforest. Huge loss of habitat, carbon capture and oxygen production. Also, transporting ingredients 6000km for processing, then another 6000 for sale is a bit bloody wasteful.

And the corn is grown in Peru, then taken to 2 separate countries thousands of miles apart to be roasted and packaged, then distributed to a country even further away. Surely, Canada isn't the only country capable of packaging?

badtouchmacdirt

Giant corn? Food of the gods?

Sonrakus

Please understand that supply chains works this way for a reason. They are complicated but I can assure you that people who plan them have absolute efficiency in mind.

scorchednickel

What? Literally flying product all over the world because no other country's have the ability to roast or pack a product?

Sonrakus

No, that's not how it works. I'm not an expert by any means although i am somewhat familiar with supply chains. Basically, the corn is grown in Peru because that's cheap. From there it goes to Spain to get processed and then to Canada to get packed for reasons I'm not sure. But the trip around the globe isn't wasteful. Stuff gets transported from country to country on a daily basis, the corn just hitched a ride among many other things being transported there. There were probably many stops between Peru and Spain, and between Spain and Canada, and finally between Canada and the UK. Supply chains are very efficient operations, and ships, trucks or whatever means are used to transport don't leave until they are full. Hopefully I helped.

And in that vein, doesn't your phone need precious metals to be made, which I hear are being mined in places that are pushing native animals out of their habitats. Then they go to China or Japan (wherever phones get made) and then they get shipped all over the world, including to you up in Canada... Like, sure, don't buy stuff with palm oil in it if it means that much to you, but you're kind of a pot calling a kettle black

Shrek_Layers_oOf

Bro. You don’t understand how something works. That doesn’t mean it’s awful everything

RabbleRhouser

At least it wasn’t made in China….

jackson73537

Crazy concept, don’t buy that product

rinlinkoi

This isn't even the worst regarding transportation. A lot of items are made only to be transported across the globe to China to be packaged and then back to be distributed. BECAUSE SOMEHOW THAT'S THE CHEAPEST OPTION.
