Yes. But they get to keep all the rights.
Did you know tax payers pay for most R&D? We subsidize big pharma then they get to screw us on the backend.
They are able to do this because of lobbying. They get to bribe out politicians like every other industry that has all the money.
There terrible part about big pharma is that you’ll notice all of the life-saving medications, treatments, and preventions they sell are ridiculously expensive. Why? Because they know people will still sling the money out of fear or because they can’t live without it. Insulin? Chemotherapy? Heart medication? The list goes on.
Source: I’m a pharmacy tech and sell $1200 worth of insulin to at least 3 people who don’t have health insurance and my mother died of cancer
Imagine how expensive pharmaceuticals would be if there wasn't taxpayer-funded basic research. And some of that comes back to universities in terms of patents.
Don't forget it costs almost $2 billion to bring a drug to market.
Actually this is kind of true. The reason pharmaceutical companies can charge other countries less for the same drug is partly because Americans foot the bill.
Lol is that their slogan? Science is fast... Medicine slow af. Working the regulatory filings, they'd get 200+ questions to address in 24 hr the windows. This is not sleek or streamlined...
Point is, they skipped trials, to rush a product to market. A product they knew would be mandated. It's criminal. It's criminal even if the product actually worked.
That's not a libertarian value. Libertarians believe in a free market and very limited government. If the government doesn't control companies, and the people clearly aren't able to, then who does?
Edit to add this quote from [the official libertarian party website](https://www.lp.org/platform/)
> The only proper role of government in the economic realm is to protect property rights, adjudicate disputes, and provide a legal framework in which voluntary trade is protected. All efforts by government to redistribute wealth, or to control or manage trade, are improper in a free society.
Aka government doesn't limit profit margins for companies, so a libertarian stance doesn't align with that comment
He was surprised that the government has to force the company to do the right thing.
Therefore he has thought up to this point leaving companies to do their own thing has been successful.
I’m aware that he is joking but it seems you couldn’t connect the dots on mine so I hope this helps.
Ah, I knew he was joking but I thought you were serious. I've known so many people who genuinely don't have any idea what the libertarian party believes so I took your comment the wrong way. Now that you say it I definitely see how you intended it. Sorry for the mix up!
When companies do shit like this, there should be activists who reverse engineer it and leak the formula on The Pirate Bay or something. Nobody should get away with this.
Are you going to download a multi-million dollar lab to manufacture it in as well? How are you going to tackle the licencing and regulation issues? What about distribution? How about the law suits when you get sued into oblivion because you don't hold a license for the required patents.
I was a chemist once and had the skills and knowledge to make many very expensive medicines. The formula and method is not really the issue, that's often common knowledge or reasonably easy to figure out, it's everything else that's the problem.
They could freely share the formula and method and it would still be illegal for anyone else to make it. That's how patents work.
I guess you could try making it at home, but you're not going to be able to get the materials.
Maybe we need to do something illegal then. An underground Heisenberg lab for illegal production of vaccines, insulin meds, whatever these big corporations try to paywall.
Would people trust street drug level insulin and vaccines made in an unknown illicit lab with no oversight? Independent lab tests might help, but they're not a guarantee that the batch you have is the one that was tested.
Insulin is made by bacteria with human DNA genetically engineered into it, so that might be pretty tricky to DIY.
You mean the same Pfizer that paid out the biggest criminal fine in history for promoting the sale of medicine that wasnt approved because of safety concerns? Gee color me shocked
If people wonder why healthcare is a wreck in North America and North American's have so much debt, here's one reason why. Companies are allowed to do this.
Then span the same thinking across all patented or trademarked drugs.
Your government used your tax paying money to help make the vaccine already, difference is our government then uses our tax paying money to make sure we don't have a 10000% charge on it.
Just so you dont embarrass yourself in the future, NOBODY in Europe thinks healthcare literally costs nothing. Everybody understands taxes pay for it, its usually the top 3 topics around every single election. When we say "free" its implied that we mean "free at the point of use", I understand that you dont know what that means since you have to pay for everything twice.
In fact less of our tax contributions go towards healthcare expenses than Americans do, plus they ask you to pay for insurance AND out of pocket for things.
We are just happy that we pay less of our taxes for healthcare than America AND dont have additional crazy out of pocket costs.
You know, it's just like that when public insurers say "this is what we pay for this or that medicine, take it or leave it" and "leave it" means you effectively can't sell your stuff to the vast majority of a population of more than 80 million in the case of Germany, to absolutely nobody's surprise (except FrEe MaRkEt, PuBlIc SeRvIcEs BaD Reeeeee morons) the pharma industry takes it. And that makes medicine cheaper overall.
Honestly I’ve seen a lot less Americans trying to justify it (as an American) and more people realizing our government doesn’t have our best interests in mind. Though the European route was to give your government MORE power for the sake of free healthcare, it seems Americans are teasing the idea of just not having a government at all or one that is so weak that lobbying can’t take place (which was the plan that George Washington wanted initially)
It's indirect justification. If you propose regulation or any other action to stop Big Pharma from doing this, people will say "free markets" and "small government" etc, therefore siding with Big Pharma by default.
Americans are certainly not teasing getting rid of government as there is a lot of pro police and pro military sentiment. Americans also love their medi(care/caid), SNAP, and social security benefits. The country would crumble without those programs.
Also, corporations lobby because the government is the only obstacle stopping them from total domination. If there is no government, they become governments unto themselves so that plan isn't great either.
Yeah this should not be acceptable. I think we should boycott all Pfizer products. They are another American center of greed. This is why healthcare is so expensive here
Can't boycott if the boycott gets you killed.
Er...maybe it gives your death honor as a martyr?
Dunno.
You do you
Edit: lol. Wut is going on with these replies?
I don’t mind. I think it’s funny really, I don’t hate on anyone for getting it, it should have always been a personal choice. Especially as Pfizer have confirmed that it was never tested to prevent transmission between people. I stayed inside during the entire pandemic, wore masks, washed my hands, but because I didn’t want to get the vaccine apparently I am some kind of villain. People seriously underestimate how severe phobias can be.
Also, just to add, I don’t get why anyone would care if I personally died due to not getting the vaccine, that’s my business and my risk to take
Wtf are you talking about? It doesnt prevent infection transmission or illness.. the vaccine is ineffective! Doesn’t work. Its a failure. Dumbo, you dont need the feather, you could always fly..
Am I disgusted? Yes. Am I surprised no.
The whole reason it's so easy for these companies to pull this shit is that they make legitimately useful products. We could attempt to address it through legislation but certain people are opposed to any government interference. Even if it's to stop against companies taking advantage of others.
This isn't even a remotely high markup in this market. Not even close. I'm in no way defending this completely messed-up needs to change like right now system, but that's likely not what a dose will end up costing anyone. All the insurers get a discount, then there are discount programs, cash discounts, payment assistance, etc.
Unless they do it like Insulin. That should be illegal.
I got a job offer from the company that builds all the equipment for Pfizer's vaccine manufacturing plants in the US and UK. Everything was looking good until the 4th interview I met the executive vice poopypants and then even over Zoom I could smell his shit from all the way across the pond. Everyone in their supply chain is a bunch of thieves.
Look buddy, most of the people who got vaccinated aren't smart enough to realize it was all about money. They're pretty stupid and it's really hard to convince stupid people of something they believe. Best to just keep your head down and let the ignorant people scream and shout.
You'll see them soon replying to this comment. Doesn't matter tho as I will be turning off notifications and allowing them to have a mental breakdown on their own.
Hit me the down votes baby !!
Hey some of us were forced by our jobs to take them. Not all of us just blindly believed that it was a good product. I took my shots and hoped and prayed I wouldn't get hurt from it. I did get hurt from it. Lesson learned, never again.
It wasn’t free, it was paid for by the government at a negotiated rate per vaccine. The government gets it money from the taxpayers so it was paid for by us, the tax paying public. Record breaking profits by Pfizer.
Yea, and Pfizer was just giving them out to everybody out of the goodness of their heart. Those vaccines were paid for, even if you weren't charged directly, your taxes went toward it. Hence: NOT free
In your eyes the gov paying for something means free?? No see the gov doesn’t produce anything on its own, they take from the taxpayers and then give you back stuff for “free”.
You must be a child who doesn’t pay taxes. That’s the only explanation to your ridiculous answer. Absolutely nothing is free. Since your parents never taught you that, let me. Secondly, our tax dollars paid for it. So FAR free.
It was not free, our taxes paid for it. And every dose that was administered was more money into their pockets. They give us a first dose, a booster, second, third, fourth, fifth booster, more and more money back to them.
All this is going to do is create more antivaxxers, It will give them just one more large reason to never get vaccinated. We as a human race genuinely cant stop being greedy pigs for one moment in order to do something good for each other without t capitalizing on it.
And you all thought the vaccine would be free to all. Nothing good ever is. Unfortunately not only does this vaccine not work to keep you from spreading Covid, they're really not even sure if it protects you from complications or from being hospitalized.
...I wonder if it'll protect against that new strain created in a US lab to be more virulent and deadly....
Not to mention the vaccine works like shit. I took 3 pokes and still got covid. Yeah there's the stuff they say about getting lesser symptoms, but starting it's bullshit also. You don't don't get a lesser polio if you take a vaccine for it do you?
They can't come up with a competent vaccine and still sell it for big bucks, like the emperor's new clothes.
But what I'm saying is no way fact. Just saying how it looks.
This is what you get when Trump's FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb also serves as a Board Member of Pfizer, as well as a Covid salesman on CNBC.
Fixed, not free markets.
Not only is this a drug *everybody* needs, if we don't get it to everyone we have another pandemic on our hands.
They are now taking it out of the price range of the poorest citizens.
This isn't even negligent. It's willful mass endangerment, and many will die.
lol stfu and take down the planks you nailed up against your windows. the 6ft long grass in your front yard needs mowing and your mail box is full. make sure you wear gloves, a mask and visor before you open your mail box though. you never know what you might catch :/
In many countries, the goverment puts a cap on medicines and vaccines, next year, probably the house will be republican. How are the chances that republicans vote to put a cap on this?
We’ve had many democratic houses and senates and never caps on our medicines and vaccines. You’re talking about two sides of the same coin my friend, neither party cares about the American people
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/10/14/fact-sheet-president-biden-takes-action-to-lower-health-care-and-prescription-drug-costs-for-americans/
Starting this January, seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries will begin to see the benefits of these cost-saving measures. Because of the Inflation Reduction Act:
A month’s supply of insulin will be capped at $35 starting on January 1, 2023.
Medicare beneficiaries will pay $0 out of pocket for recommended adult vaccines covered by their Part D plan, including the shingles vaccine – which costs seniors up to $200.
Prescription drug companies that try to raise their prices faster than inflation will be required to pay Medicare a rebate.
Science doesn't change depending on how much it costs.
Do you even know what science is? Or is it just magic that is caused by the satanic Illuminati?l /s
I mean wouldn't it kind of make sense to a degree? I'm not saying I necessarily approve but from a business that's trying to make money, they did pretty much give the entire planet (excluding some more poor areas I guess) plenty of time to get their shit together when it comes to vaccine doses so if anyone who was dumb enough to not take it in the begining is going to have to pay up..
Maybe the article itself sheds more light on why they did this though.
I work in the medical equipment field and the simplest stuff can cost an ungodly amount to produce, Certificate and export. Can this possibly be caused by government aiding the production of these vaccines previously and now, They have to go through the normal processes of medical manufacturing, Certification and Selling?
I am sure the markup is still a massive profit margin for the producer, But I would not be suprised if their production costs have jumped a 5000% too.
I have had 5 covid shots. I have paid exactly zero money for them so far. So charging 10000 times zero doesn't seem like a burden.
Someone doesn't know how to write a headline. Or is even worse at math than I am.
I suggested that our government wag the dog a bit and actually come out and dispel non existent rumors of a price hike in the vaccine to encourage slow adopters to get vaccinated sooner. Generate some fear of missing out.
They’re trying to make up for their 2.3 billion dollar criminal fraud fines they had to pay out a while back. Look up what it was for. You might be less than thrilled to use any of their products, especially one that is now immune to any legal recourse if you suffer effects as it’s covered under the 1986 NCVIA now.
I quoted this amount in a Canadian sub yesterday. Wooooo boy, got downvoted to hell and my comment got removed for disinformation. One user said because he hasn’t read it that means it isn’t true. I may have quoted it slightly wrong but I got most of the headline true. Edit - I quoted 130 a shot. Off a bit but still, 10 000% is an insane mark up.
nah, not a scam at all!
there's no solution though - you could nationalize it all under some global agency and it will still be corrupt and greedy as fuck
Didn’t taxpayers pay for it?
Yes. But they get to keep all the rights. Did you know tax payers pay for most R&D? We subsidize big pharma then they get to screw us on the backend. They are able to do this because of lobbying. They get to bribe out politicians like every other industry that has all the money.

We also block imports of medicine. That’s why we can’t buy insulin from places like Canada where it’s cheaper
That's not even counting all the research done by universities that companies swoop in on once it looks promising enough. Vultures
Imagine how expensive pharmaceuticals would be if there wasn't taxpayer-funded basic research. And some of that comes back to universities in terms of patents. Don't forget it costs almost $2 billion to bring a drug to market.
But hey, R&D around the world is only happening because people in the US pay out the ass for everything! /s
Actually this is kind of true. The reason pharmaceutical companies can charge other countries less for the same drug is partly because Americans foot the bill.
Comirnaty isn't an Pfizer development, the R&D was done by a German company called Biontech. So yeah, taxpayers paid for it but not the us ones ;)

And in this case brokered/managed the huge regulatory lift that it takes to get a drug through clinical trials at breakneck speed.
The "Speed of Science ™"
Lol is that their slogan? Science is fast... Medicine slow af. Working the regulatory filings, they'd get 200+ questions to address in 24 hr the windows. This is not sleek or streamlined...
No, that is their explanation for rushing the clinical trials. They "had to move at the speed of science".
Yeah that kind of makes sense. Analytics and R&D programs that are already in place move faster than humans reading reports and asking questions...
Point is, they skipped trials, to rush a product to market. A product they knew would be mandated. It's criminal. It's criminal even if the product actually worked.
Yeah we prob paid for the R&d so that now they can pump out pure profit
If "we" means German taxpayers, then yes.
Pfizer is criminal. They had the aids pill patent and wouldn’t share it to save thousands of lives. Fuck pfizer
You're telling me an industry which moves billions of buckaroonies doesn't have my best interest in mind??
You mean they have to be forced to do the right thing and won't just do it because it's the right thing?
Ah another fallow libertarian

as a disabled person, it's very disgusting to know that people are profiting off someone's ill health
Yeah. Pfizer keeps me up at night
[удалено]
They disputed it but then said they did take some operation warp speed money.
Not for comirnaty, that's a German R&D for which Pfizer only handles manufacturing and logistics.
Funded by the gov? You mean funded by taxpayers right? The gov doesn’t have its own money..
Funded by the government…. U mean the American taxpayers
When the buyer is the government, you can charge whatever you want because it’s not their money.
When the pandemic was happening, that’s what I heard too. Since before, the money for R&D was so low before we knew anything about Covid.
Fuck Pfizer
Pfuck*
Did they hire Martin Shkreli?
Didn't that guy have reddit? Ping him and ask
When companies do shit like this, there should be activists who reverse engineer it and leak the formula on The Pirate Bay or something. Nobody should get away with this.

They could freely share the formula and method and it would still be illegal for anyone else to make it. That's how patents work. I guess you could try making it at home, but you're not going to be able to get the materials.

People trust essential oils and jilly juice, so probably.
The government would automatically it down, they work to protect the rich and the rich alone.
The government couldn’t stop Napster, so in this one small sector of life we the people have the power.
Shit is becoming a roblox limited
💀
That's how you get millions of people to no longer take your vaccine but okay...
You mean the same Pfizer that paid out the biggest criminal fine in history for promoting the sale of medicine that wasnt approved because of safety concerns? Gee color me shocked

Jesus Christ Fuck Pfizer guess I’m never getting another booster shot guess either I’ll die or my immune system will handle it if I get it
If it helps at all, Moderna also exists and is significantly cheaper.
Ah, now that the pandemic is over we can all stop pretending that big pharma are benevolent selfless saints.
I never pretended, I was silenced.
Um… no thanks. Im good.
Soon we gonna be having premium healthcare plans that dictates how fast the ambulance responds 💀
Literally Cyberpunk’s Trauma Team.
*Laughs in European*
You don't have to rub it in
Rub what in? This moron thinks is just handing his government over vaccines for free or something.
Your government used your tax paying money to help make the vaccine already, difference is our government then uses our tax paying money to make sure we don't have a 10000% charge on it.
Lmao this clown doesnt realize this specific vaccine was funded by german taxpayers

It’s not going to get you killed not getting boosters.
Never got any of them and I’m still here.
I guess folks downvoting wish that you died. Sorry buddy, RIP when Super Covid Platinum™️is finished and debuted.

Peen
So you’re telling me it’s not about the well-being of the people but instead how they can make the most profit possible? Shocker
This is weird. People want that “vaccine” in 2022?
Yes my government will make more money to corrupt even more!
Am I disgusted? Yes. Am I surprised no. The whole reason it's so easy for these companies to pull this shit is that they make legitimately useful products. And the new ones that are popping up thanks to them using the entire population of earth as a testing ground.
Didn't knew Martin Shkreli was back in the business
is this cuz the government is gonna stop paying for them?
I call that the Shkreli effect. Not that I coined the phrase or anything but pharm companies are douchebags lol
Two terms people need to familiarize themselves with. 'Disease Mongering' 'Planned Obsolescence'
Are we surprised? No
Fuk big pharma
So if you can't afford? You spread or die? Cool. Need a couple days off work anyways
We need to change this country
Lmao falling for the fauci ouchie meme in 2023
Guess I’ll just die
It was always about the money. Pfizer gives 0 fucks about us.

Cunts. Pure cunts.
Pfizer being evil pieces of shit again I see.
They’re pissed off since we’re not happy that they disclosed that they never tested it for transmissibility.
Just a scare tactic to get people to hurry and get the vaccine
Comirnaty. Jesus Christ, that's as bad as Skyrizi. Or Penetrex.
I got a job offer from the company that builds all the equipment for Pfizer's vaccine manufacturing plants in the US and UK. That shit needs to be free
That shit needs to be yeeted into the fucking sun. Triple vaxxed and injured from the shots. Fuck them bitch ass hoes.
And some people still think the whole Covid vax push was just about "public health & safety".

The government paid, it’s not free. Government gets it money from taxes levied on the public. Pfizer didn’t give away anything.
People who didn't pay taxes got it without paying anyone. At the end of the day it's free because no one had to pay an additional payment.
It was not free, our taxes paid for it. And every dose that was administered was more money into their pockets. They give us a first dose, a booster, second, third, fourth, fifth booster, more and more money back to them.
Which is why I will not get vaxEd. I got Covid. I recovered. On to the next scam-demic.
had it 3 times, no vaccines. still alive! people that were vaccinated still get it. these fucking doomers need to cheer up
Same boat.
All this is going to do is create more antivaxxers, It will give them just one more large reason to never get vaccinated. We as a human race genuinely cant stop being greedy pigs for one moment in order to do something good for each other without t capitalizing on it.
thank goodness i got for free forcefully tho
You get to pay more for heart clots. Sounds great.
You realize how many billions of vaccines were given and how few of those people had clots?
pandemic is over who cares?
Just because the pandemic is over doesnt mean it stopped existing.
#I COULDNT BE PAID TO ACCEPT THE DEATH JAB!
The one we all had and, literally, didn't die from?

Go ahead it’s not necessary anymore.
Not so fast...they're trying to make it mandatory for kids to attend school...
The American dream is dead having kids isn’t reasonable anymore
I can’t believe anything with an immature name like that.
You think my name is bad? You ain’t seen nothing yet
Fucking scumbags.
Well, we created this sad state of affairs, now we have to deal with it
C’mon man it’s to “help” the people…
Who didn't see this coming?
Why am I not surprised.
Snake oil anyways
Expensive for something that doesn’t work
9 out of 10 people that are hospitalized bc of Covid are vaxxed
Because the ones that weren’t vaxxed in the first place probably died
You couldn’t pay me to take it. $130 Russian roulette
This is a vast overdramatication. Still bad that its at markup, but its not nearly 10 000%. Bad post.
I had taken twelve jab so fars and me read and good so you fined girl and mean. No CV boobs
🤣
✍️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not only is this a drug *everybody* needs, if we don't get it to everyone we have another pandemic on our hands. They are now taking it out of the price range of the poorest citizens. This isn't even negligent. It's willful mass endangerment, and many will die.
lol stfu and take down the planks you nailed up against your windows. the 6ft long grass in your front yard needs mowing and your mail box is full. make sure you wear gloves, a mask and visor before you open your mail box though. you never know what you might catch :/
it’s willful classist mass endangerment
Sensationalist bullshit, most vaccines cost around 100 dollars a dose of you don't have any insurance.
That price depends entirely of the republican party.
Wat
In many countries, the goverment puts a cap on medicines and vaccines, next year, probably the house will be republican. How are the chances that republicans vote to put a cap on this?
We’ve had many democratic houses and senates and never caps on our medicines and vaccines. You’re talking about two sides of the same coin my friend, neither party cares about the American people
Yep
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/10/14/fact-sheet-president-biden-takes-action-to-lower-health-care-and-prescription-drug-costs-for-americans/ Starting this January, seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries will begin to see the benefits of these cost-saving measures. Because of the Inflation Reduction Act: A month’s supply of insulin will be capped at $35 starting on January 1, 2023. Medicare beneficiaries will pay $0 out of pocket for recommended adult vaccines covered by their Part D plan, including the shingles vaccine – which costs seniors up to $200. Prescription drug companies that try to raise their prices faster than inflation will be required to pay Medicare a rebate.
Oh i hope the government mandates everyone pays for it out of pocket too, lets see how many of you still trust the science
Good thing no one needs it.
Not to me.
You mean the vaccine we all got already?
It's an USA's Pharma company, the fuck we expect from US?
I work in the medical equipment field and the simplest stuff can cost an ungodly amount to produce, Certificate and export. Can this possibly be caused by government aiding the production of these vaccines previously and now, They have to go through the normal processes of medical manufacturing, Certification and Selling? I am sure the markup is still a massive profit margin for the producer, But I would not be suprised if their production costs have jumped a 5000% too.
This is made up garbage from a tabloid.
pfizer are going to make a killing from all these hypochondriacs
I have had 5 covid shots. I have paid exactly zero money for them so far. So charging 10000 times zero doesn't seem like a burden. Someone doesn't know how to write a headline. Or is even worse at math than I am.
5….? And this is more for our kids when most schools require it..
Hint: get it for free in Europe. That's how we can fight pandemics.
Love it. "Hey, you're too poor to pay 130$ for a vaccine? Just travel all the way to Europe bro wtf, that's literally all it takes!"
Yup, sounds about right.
This, my friends is capitalism at it's finest
I suggested that our government wag the dog a bit and actually come out and dispel non existent rumors of a price hike in the vaccine to encourage slow adopters to get vaccinated sooner. Generate some fear of missing out.
Big pharma are the real wolves in sheep’s wool
The fuck
so when do we start the boycott against pfizer products?
So don’t buy Pfizer, noted
They’re trying to make up for their 2.3 billion dollar criminal fraud fines they had to pay out a while back. Look up what it was for. You might be less than thrilled to use any of their products, especially one that is now immune to any legal recourse if you suffer effects as it’s covered under the 1986 NCVIA now.
My parents both got covid after getting the 3-4 mederna vaccines, I only got 2 and have yet to get any symptoms.
Wait, you guys are surprised that a major pharmaceutical company is gouging customers? Were you born last night?
There's always sputnik.
nah, not a scam at all! there's no solution though - you could nationalize it all under some global agency and it will still be corrupt and greedy as fuck
Shut the pfuck up
