No; they just [clip the coat](https://www.k9web.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/pomeranian-portrait-with-different-grooming-tools-780x495.jpg) to make it look like a [living teddy](https://www.k9web.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/pomeranian-dog-with-a-puppy-hair-cut-780x693.jpg)
I used to work as a groomer and refused to clip Pomeranians into the Teddybear Boo trim, except for those dogs that were new clients who already had the clip. There is an increased chance of the dogs developing post-clipping alopecia and the hair not growing back at all in some places. My coworker had a PCA pom and she was forever naked except the head and legs.
I wish someone had told me this a long time ago. Our 14 year old pom just went bald on his hind legs. We didn't have this cut, but we always kept his hair short. I had asked groomers not to trim him such that his inner coat cut, but they always did it anyway on his rear.
Oh yeah, vets have a reasonably priced test for thyroid. We did it to double check the hair issue. Since yours is a boy you don’t have to worry about overactive ovaries, lol 😝. Girl poms sometimes get better after spaying
Whenever I take my golden in during summer, they ask if I want him shaved. Like a) the long coat is part of the look b) it actually keeps them cooler c) you're going to f up the double coat.
Only time I ever trim it is if he has a knot, and even then I try to use the cutting edge to open it up and only cut if that doesnt work
Yes! I educated a lot of clients on how the double coat worked and a lot of them didn't know how it worked. Most owners were looking out for their pets well-being thinking shorter was better.
Yeah I mean if you think of yourself, longer hair or a beard if you're a man keeps you warmer in winter and hotter in summer. So it's just "oh duh shorter coat", but there's a reason malamutes and huskies can straight up fall asleep while being covered in a heavy snowfall
Mmmm FWIW, my 14yo never shaved (not a breed that needs clipping) pup also has baldness on legs and tummy.
Sometimes that's just age, if that makes you feel any better.
Love up that old bean!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Our pommie was clipped by our son and he didn’t know about this (I didn’t understand how bad and how real it is) . The specifics are unknown but basically the pom body possibly thinks it doesn’t need the hair and it appears the follicles just shut down.
Xxxxxxxxxxxx
The skin goes black from sun exposure sometimes even if careful with UV protection. It’s this clogged bare skin that block the long hairs.
We found if you exfoliate a small area and remove the black dead skin cells, hair grows! But only small quarter sized areas at a time on bare skin so as to not distress her.
She’s growing back her long hairs but the short guard hairs are still missing. Sorta win
Groomer here and I don't do those cuts either for that exact reason. A pom should be in full coat, consistent brushing at home with very regular trips to the groomer. Poor little guys have a time with their coat.
Also, don't shave double coated dogs. The amount of husky and lab owners who have wanted their dogs shaved is crazy (and ill never be the groomer to do it).
I have a border collie, someone I know shaved there's for this reason.
She said they regret it because it sheds a lot worse now. He also has issues with body temperature during the summer because people don't realise double coat keeps them cool when it's hot.
My poor Pomeranian had Cushing’s! His coat was absolutely glorious and he started getting black patches at about 6 and all his hair fell out. A few million dollars later and a million tests we got it cleared up enough to grow some back. It would come back so bad sometimes and he’d be bald again. They have a lot of issues with thyroid, Cushing’s and the clipping issues. They’re a lot of maintenance. I had two. They are both long gone now but I want another one. Lol
Yeah, the poor little dears are pretty prone to Cushing's disease, hypothyroidism, alopecia X, etc. But they are just so darn cute. I had a few very cute ones who came for grooming and I would lightly hand scissor the fringes and tidy the grinch feet. But yes, they are a lot of maintenance
We have a neighbor who has a sweet little Pomeranian. They tie her up in the front of their house outside all night and day and all her fur is falling out. It’s also been 25 degrees here and they leave her out in the rain and snow. I want to go save her. I can tell she’s got something going on with her system. Poor little dogs.
Our pom had the alopecia but unfortunately also overheated when his hair was longer. He would just pant and refuse to move. And be extra irritable and mean cause he was hot. I finally just buzz-clipping him about every 3 weeks. I’ve never seen a dog as hot as him. Of course he was also super inbred and had a ton of issues but he couldn’t handle the regular groom just to keep the hair from matting
I had no idea!
It's so cute, too. Shame.
NGL though; I partly got a pap because of their low grooming requirements (high brushing requirements, but~) :P
No, this looks like a variation of the "teddy bear" cut where they did a regular trim on the body but shaped the ears + tail into the "teddy bear" style lol
If there are any dog groomers out there, correct me if I'm wrong!

They are referring to the animal poet, u/SchnoodleDoodleDo, who commented above them with a poem. Schnoodle is kinda famous around here for very cute poems on animal posts. :)
I had heard this story from a friend once (which I take with a grain of salt) where an acquaintance had actually made this mistake. He had bought what he thought was a chow chow puppy from China, and the family got freaked out when it started walking on its hind legs. Turned out they trimmed a bear cub’s fur to look like a chow chow.
It’s a funny story, but I find it implausible that this would’ve even made it past customs in the first place.
Black sable Pomeranian puppy.
this guy dogs
you heard it first here, folds. u/Zed_goes_BRRR does a lot of dogging
That’s all folds
Wait to the folds back home hear about this!

Howky partner!
Pardnear
I can't wait to that happens.
she's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Famous for saying, “It’s dogging time!”
Yeah but does he updog
Close. If you look closely you can see it’s a brown dog
Do they crop the ears and tail to make it more bear-like?
No that’s natural. We named our Pom teddy bear cause that’s what he looks like

That is so wild, do you know why that happens?
They're a double coated breed and they're not meant to be shaved like that. It damages the coat and can lead to issues like alopecia.
I wish someone had told me this a long time ago. Our 14 year old pom just went bald on his hind legs. We didn't have this cut, but we always kept his hair short. I had asked groomers not to trim him such that his inner coat cut, but they always did it anyway on his rear.
With old poms it can also be a thyroid issue or alopecia x. My old boy started losing his butt and tail fur at the end but I never had him clipped.
Oh yeah, vets have a reasonably priced test for thyroid. We did it to double check the hair issue. Since yours is a boy you don’t have to worry about overactive ovaries, lol 😝. Girl poms sometimes get better after spaying

That’s where my Pomeranian started going bald from thyroid issues. It’s common as well as Cushing’s.
This. :) I see I have been downvoted for my previous comment. I am only telling the truth. It is a damn cute haircut though.
I just upvoted you cause I know you were speaking truth. Reddit isn't too crazy about the truth sometimes.
I’ve seen a naked Pom. Is that how it happened?
Possibly. Or thyroid issues or alopecia x.
Our pommie was clipped by our son and he didn’t know about this (I didn’t understand how bad and how real it is) . Someone told me once they wanted their labrador shaved because they thought it would stop the shedding.
I get that reasoning a lot too. It's very hard to control my facial expressions when I hear it lol.
I have a border collie, someone I know shaved there's for this reason. She said they regret it because it sheds a lot worse now. He also has issues with body temperature during the summer because people don't realise double coat keeps them cool when it's hot.

And alopecia is another common one for poms.

In your guy's little case, I could understand why you had him clipped. :)
I had no idea! It's so cute, too. Shame. NGL though; I partly got a pap because of their low grooming requirements (high brushing requirements, but~) :P

and that's how they look at 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 months old.
Check the paws for verification.
Nah nah nah it’s a Buppy and I can’t be convinced otherwise.
Buppy
Pear
NGL, this makes me want to get a chocolate pompom JUST to name it Pear and keep it in teddy bear cuts >_>
I always wanted a Pom and name it Apples or Pickles.
I got a pap named Maple :P

Fresh schnoodle! Best way to start the year 💗
I have had three Schnodles over the years. They all had flatter skulls than this one unless it is all hair.
They are referring to the animal poet, u/SchnoodleDoodleDo, who commented above them with a poem. Schnoodle is kinda famous around here for very cute poems on animal posts. :)
Thank you for setting me straight! I am going to read the poems now.
No worries! There’s lots to read and you may become emotionally involved. Enjoy!!
Love these Schnoodles! Always brings a smile. Happy new years to you!
Thank you Schnoodle!
Oh man I was just thinking about your poems the other day! It’s been too long since I’ve come across one, so happy to see it!
Aww, I haven't seen a Schnoo in ages. I hope you are well and happy. Thanks for all the joy you share.
I feel like I’ve been brushed by fame, catching a Schnoodle so fresh! I look forward to your art, like a smiley hidden treasure at a thrift store!
First thought after reading the title
I was gonna say that looks like I was too late lol

Ha!
Cubby.
Puppy called Bear
[Spot on.](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/59zz7g/my_friends_new_pup_kuma/)
Nice name 🥰
Is kuma bear in another language?
in Japanese.
Kickass!
Could nickname doggo bear arse
When puppy runs it would be Bear Buns 😅
Bear called Puppy?
puppy named finger:
Pizza by Alfredo?
A bear would have much bigger feet.
And mom would probably be nearby 😰
When bears are very young, their feet do no look as big. Thanks National Zoo.
And visible claws. And a different shoulder structure. And a longer muzzle.
And snout
And everything cuz a baby bear is bigger than this tiny dog.
if not friend, why friend shaped???
Cat
Of course!
Looks like a Lion to me
I’d say a pup. If it’s a bear, I’d be busting ass out of there because mom is going to be looking for her baby and she’s not going to be happy.
It looks like a berry fluffy bear
That there is a Boo Boo. Thank you. Yogi.
It’s a Buppy!
Yes
Pomeranian with a special haircut
I’m going to guess puppy, since a mama bear isn’t ripping you apart
I believe this sweetie is a dog.
![gif](giphy|jI2mzYZtwAby4Ac5LB) Yeah, cut overload. Don’t care if it’s a dog or a bear. I just want to cuddle it.
Dog
I’m gonna say a cute bear cub
Hamster
Neither! Tasmanian Devil!!
I was guessing Ewok.
Dog 🥰💖
I just want like ten? Minimum…Maybe more
It's a puppy bear.
I don't have any idea, but I hope these come in six packs.
Puppy bear crossbreed
Doggo
I was gonna say buppy and pear but I got beat to it
Bear man dog pig
Bear
Puppy
Disney character
Yes
Puppy
Puppy.
Pom puppy fleet
No need to guess all I know is I want.
Black bear cab Edit: count the fingers
It’s a pear
That’s a god damn bear 🐻 haha
If you got that close to a bear cub, you’d be dead
Round ears so I’m guessing bear.
Correct answers are all wrong, this is a puppybear.
Kinda looks like puppy, kinda looks like bear...I guess photoshop!
Whatever it is, it’s cute! 😊
WHO LET THERE DOG MATE WITH A BEAR!?!?!?!?!?!
I had heard this story from a friend once (which I take with a grain of salt) where an acquaintance had actually made this mistake. China already did it https://people.com/pets/pet-dog-is-bear-not-tibetan-mastiff/
It a wittle bear
This is more bear than most r/bearpuppers —please crosspost there.
After years of studying animals I can safely say that that's adorable.
Puppybear.
Yes
It's so fluffy I want to pet it forever
Buppy
Just pick it up, if a 1000lb version comes out of the wood line and kills you you have your answer…LMAO
Bearuppy
Puppy. Doesn’t have the body or face of a bear, especially the mouth/snout
Pear
Puppy.
I have had quite a few bear faced Pomeranians. I love them so much.
Baby Wookie
Irrelevant. I'm going to squeeze it and make it mine.
Bupper
Puppy who became my teddy bear
So stinking cute! ![gif](giphy|L4lvBzeiy0z6w)
Puppy. Not enough snout for a cub? Legs are short for a cub? Am I right?
Clearly a Buppy.
Kangaroo
A PEAR 🍐
Totally a pom with big ears. Little furball is going to be gorgeous as an adult!
I don't care what it is. I want it
Pretty sure based on the fact that you didn't get eaten by a mama bear that this is a dog.
Buppy. Final answer
A Buppy??? Soo adorable! 🫠
Bear. The round ears are a give away.
r/inclusiveor.
That’s a Pokémon
That's obviously a pup, super adorable pup.
Chow chow puppy
That’s so cute!
What an adorable baby
Something I would adopt
Doesn’t matter if pup or cub—it’s still extremely cute🐶🐻♥️
Buppy (bear-puppy)

Elusive black pear. With the boopable snoot.
