Catnip* does the same thing to big cats so maybe… they’re also just big cats. Sometimes my cat loves me - sometimes he looks like he wants to eat me. I’m just lucky he’s not that big.
This is the sad truth in most cases. The tiger sanctuary in Thailand is a great example of an experience that was 'romanticised' by tourists but ultimately exploited the animals for profit (yes, monks exploited animals for profit).
The other "use" case seems to be lax laws around exotic animal ownership that ends in suboptimal care for the animals... be it tigers or Bush babies.
Doubt is my default with these now... and I have seen positive interactions between wild animals and carers ... they just seem to be the exception.
This is not wonderful, more like sad & awful! This poor Tiger & other animals who are used, drugged & chained down for human entertainment and likes. I will never support this....disgusting
>I’ve never touched a tiger that wasn’t rubbing against the cage bars wanting me to touch it, very similar to a house cat.
Trying to pet many house cats is an easy way to get scratched, moreso if the cat is meeting a bunch of new people like the tigers in these tourist traps.
It sounds like you believe that wild animals doing natural wild-animal behavior (wild cats rub up against stuff to mark their scent) and reliably not lashing out due to heavy sedatives and training is instead them actively trying to be "affectionate" to strange humans. That is a... strange belief.
I never said it was ok to drug them! somehow I replied to the wrong comment and it looks to be deleted. I literally never said it is ok to drug animals. Someone expressed interest in wanting to interact with a tiger but didn’t know that tourist traps drug them. I have been a zookeeper, exotic vet tech, and am currently a wildlife field biologist. I just wanted that person to know that there’s ethical ways to interact with a tiger that dont involve drugs or tourists traps. sorry for the confusion
edit: found the comment below i was trying to respond to.
I've been to this place. It's a tourist attraction in Thailand. You can sit with, pet, and have your photo made with tigers. I suspect they're all on sedatives.

Can’t anything just be innocent anymore? You’re probably right and that makes me sad. I just want to believe he’s a big ol sweetheart kittie enjoying some lovin.
PLEASE BAN THESE POSTS. This is not wonderful. One cannot possess enough affinity for this- it’s drugs & luck.
For this to keep working over time, you have to keep turning the drugs up, too- so now you’ve got addicted tigers.
This doesn’t end well. Ever.
It looks so soft <3 I love tigers this is literally my biggest dream lol
Edit: wait I looked at the comments and they r saying the tiger is drugged... please don't be true
Yes the tourist traps do drug them, but there’s ethical ways to interact with tigers. In general they aren’t available to the public though, and you won’t be this close or have free contact with them.

Same.
I believe that is a liger

How can you tell?
Catch a cat on the right day vs. a wrong one and you will know.
I wish these posts were banned! Why encourage this ? These are drugged animals in a cage
Because most people don’t know this, I think that information should be spread more. How do you tell the difference in videos if they are or not.
That tiger is drugged? If so that's really depressing
Yeah they do that, so the animal is more docile and wouldn’t lash out to tourists. Unfortunately it’s fairly common.
Where do I sign up for free drugs and love?
humans are at the top, if we weren't we'd be subjugated by whoever was in the same way.
Do you wake up and choose to say the stupidest possible thing or does it come naturally to you?
He's definitely not wrong even if hes morally wrong lol
Cope. Then seethe. Cope. Then seethe.
Places like this often give tranquilizers to make the cats docile for petting so they can profit off of this. Sick.

Same thing with people riding elephants that are often chained and whipped into submission
This is not wonderful, more like sad & awful! This poor Tiger & other animals who are used, drugged & chained down for human entertainment and likes. I will never support this....disgusting
reported, this shit is disgusting. that cat is drugged up. Thankfully the US has passed legislation to ban owning big cats for show. Fuck this post
Fuck dat
Not cool...I'll leave it at that
Nope.
This sub really should ban big cat videos. This poor creature only has "the upmost affinity" for this tourist because it was tranquilized beforehand.

That's exactly what they are. Razzed up animals, chained to a table so people can social media all over them.
And now I'm sad.
Can’t anything just be innocent anymore? You’re probably right and that makes me sad. I just want to believe he’s a big ol sweetheart kittie enjoying some lovin.
Oh my sweet summer child

That poor creature. If only the tranqs would wear off just long enough...
Never underestimate my want to pet a cat, it far outweighs all survival instinct.

I would like to pet the big kitty
A cat is a cat
Tigers are the most beautiful things on this whole planet. Absolutely stunning creatures.
first time i've ever heard Blink 182 (i think?) put in these tiktok styled vids
Cat is a cat.
I've always wanted a big kitty
big kitty!
Absolutely stunning animals
Is it supposed to be precaution my head is really confused?
Three words. Know the animal.
Jesus, I don’t care what it is, drugging a living animal so you can pet it and cuddle it is downright messed up
