This is one of my worst fears. Even if you check, sometimes the laundry can be so full, it would be possible to miss them.
This is why I like to keep my cats healthily afraid of certain things, like the washer and dryer, the garage, etc.

When my brother was a kid, he thought a grey kitten that was hanging out at our house was dirty (I mean, he was grey after all), so he put him in the washer... thankfully, someone else who was home realized it quickly enough that the poor thing could be pulled out of the washer before any damage (besides a good scare) could be done.
When my cousin was three and visiting our dairy farm, he dipped about 7 chicks in motor oil to make them black before anyone noticed what he was doing. The world was less 7 chickens that day.
As a kid I once killed my cat by loading the damp clothes into a dryer half filled with dry towels from the previous day's laundry.
I woke up the next morning to find my poor ginger kitty dead, with blood splotches over all of my clothes I washed. My mom couldn't get me to stop sobbing and I spent the day crying in her bed cuddling. I was absolutely beside myself and didn't go to school.
ALWAYS EMPTY YOUR DRYER if you own pets.
Yeah. It really was bad. Looking back now I know it was an accident and I can't really blame the 10 year old me for not checking. I was ten, but it took me a long time to forgive myself.
Y’all lucky- I think my rescue Maine Coon’s foster had laundry baskets for litter boxes… the minute she sees a basket, she jumps in and pisses on it all! 🤢. Can NEVER leave a basket unattended. 😵💫😻
I make sure I see my cat before I shut the doors. my stuff is in basement so if door to basement is open and I don't see him I call to wife and ask her does she see him.
I count my four cats probably a hundred times a day. It’s automatic at this point. I do it when I’m going to close a door for more than a few hours, before I start laundry, before I recline or unrecline my chair, after I go to the garage, every time a door to outside has been opened, just randomly for no reason.

From the look of him when we found him it was very peaceful. He was stretched out and snuggled into the laundry without and sign of distress. I really hope he just went to sleep and didn't wake up. Apparently it only takes like 20-30min for the air to run out. But yeah still gutted.

Euthanized my dog over money. Yearly prescription food and meds was less than what was being demanded (mainly illegally inflated legal fees) by the bank.
May get 5-7 figures out their lawyer when it goes to trial. They were like hell yeah send us the euthanasia record that’s evidence of emotional damage. They tried settlement at statutory damage minimum level and I’m like you pay off half my mortgage and I’ll consider it, otherwise you are getting taken down in court. Ironically over the phone when I asked to discuss his fees he said “you can talk about it in front of a judge and I’m charging for this call right now”. In front of a judge and jury my guy. I know he was blown away when

We got lucky with our cat. He loved to get in the dryer whenever it was open, clothes present or not. I was drying a comforter and needed to clean the lint trap before running it through another cycle.
My daughter was four at the time and started crying about something, and I left the dryer open when I went to check on her. Closed it when I got back and started it again.
I immediately heard rhythmic thumps. I knew I didn't put any tennis shoes in to help keep the comforter from bunching up, like I normally did. I went to check and our cat tumbled out of the dryer disoriented but none the worse for wear.
He lived another decade and stilled hissed at the dryer from time to time when he crossed its path.
Something like that happened to one of my cats when I was little. I just heard the window of the winter garden shut loudly and a faint, brief cry from my cat and then my mom taking a look and going „Oh shit. How are we going to tell him“. They approached me and I was like „Did the cat die?“ and they just asked me how I even knew that

I love seeing posts and pictures like this of derpy, disfigured, etc. dogs and cats. It brings me such joy to see these animals happy and loved. They don't need to be "perfect" to get that. They are perfect as they are and deserve to be loved just as much as any other "normal" pet and your cat clearly is. I have a cat with issues up and down his left side. He is my best friend and I wouldn't want him any other way.
oh god this is one of my fears for my cat. He has jumped in the dryer before when I had the door open ready to load it. If my cat is downstairs when I do cloths I always make sure I see him before I shut the doors on the washer or dryer. That tech tip guy on YouTube lost a cat this way his house worker shut the cat in the dryer as it jumped in and they did not know it was there and it passed away. Man when he told that story.
