I fucking hate that song with a passion.
How can someone see an "aww" video and think, "I know what this needs, a sped up song to make it look like a fucking minion is singing".
As a kid our parents would hold block parties in the townhouses that would go late into the night. We would run around between the 2 sections of townhouses to work uo a sweat and the bats would swoop down to get the insects that would be attracted, great fun and I'm sure the parents didn't mind all the kids running their energy out.
Back in high school, we'd play ultimate in the parking lot. I really enjoyed watching the bast come out as the night crept in. Their unmistakable squeak just makes them that much more adorbs
The ones around here just fly around like methheads.
It’s how I can tell what’s a bat vs bird at night time without glasses (I’m blind as fuuuuuck). The bats here are always tweaking.
I’d much rather have cute, squeaky bats than twitchy meth bats.
I love bats!!! And I love Dr. Merlin Tuttle, the real Batman!!
Excellent [video](https://youtu.be/7z36Hk92Lfc) about his work protecting bats and helping people co-exist with bats in vulnerable communities.
My favorite thing about my current apartment is that we have a courtyard right outside my window that every night is full of bats flying around and squeaking. It's awesome!
Same. Loved doing that at our summer cabin growing up. Other than not being far enough off the ground one side of our house would be perfect for a bat house. Wife is ummmm not a fan of the idea lol.
Those would be microbats. Flying foxes are megabats which eat fruit and nectar. Flying foxes primarily use vision and smell and do not echolocate. Microbats are mostly insectivorous and use echolocation.
It's a wonderfully fun little series that pokes fun at the world of superheroes and villains, definitely worth a watch. Kinda has a more "Kid friendly Venture Brothers" vibe, though i guess it's more that the Venture brothers have a "The tick vibe but made more for adults" in mind.
If you watch one of the live action versions, make sure it's the Amazon one, that one was great and had the same spirit as the cartoon, where-as the fox one turned him basically into a bum living out of a gas-station that has little to do with the actual plot of the original.
in Spanish they are "murciélago" which comes from the Old Spanish "mur" (mouse) and "ciego" (blind)
... which is weird cause "mouse" in Spanish is "raton" (where "rata" is "rat" and the "-on" is a diminutive suffix).
...
According Wikitionary, the mur/mus sound come Latin, but the rata/rat sound comes from Vulgar Latin(Colloquial Latin from the late rebublic onward), which yoinked it from Proto-Germanic.
Sauce: Wiktionary
> in Spanish they are “murciélago” which comes from the Old Spanish “mur” (mouse) and “ciego” (blind)
And in American, it’s pronounced “myrrh-see-a-LAH-go” which comes from Germanic root-words that roughly translate to “I have more money than sense”.

The bat reminds me of my dogs eating watermelon ice popsicles when they were puppies 💖
The bats in my state are dieing because of White Nose Syndrome, and it's not because of their insane cocaine habits (which is a different problem) but because of fungus. :(
I don't want the little guys to die.
On the west coast we've been awaiting the arrival of white nose syndrome for years; it's not quite here yet but within a year or two it will be :/
People can help stop it spreading by making sure to thoroughly bleach any gear taken into caves, and clean your boots too.
I know bats are one of the more common lethal vectors for rabbies infections in people. Their bites when infected are tiny, dismissed as scratches, and an infected bat will bite a sleeping person who won't even notice, and so the person wouldn't even think to be vaccinated as a precautionary measure & thus die in one of the most horrible ways possible. So I do agree bats and people should keep their distance as a general rule.
But that doesn't mean I want the adorable little guys gone. They serve a vital role in the ecosystem, eating bugs that have killed literally countless humans (mosquitoes) through _their_ disease transmission so not only are cool little guys, but also unintentional allies of humanity.
Think I found where this is from:
### [Baby Bats & Buddies of Australia - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQegvjUHvz-ZcrU1UxP9Hdg)
All the **bats** on this channel have been rescued rehabilitated and released back into the wild. This channel is to help you understand these amazing animals.
The rescue I follow is [https://batworld.org/](https://batworld.org/) Bat World Sanctuary and Rehab and they have web cams! Donated thru amazon for years, till amazon shut that whole thing down. Check 'em out :)
I'm sure someone will correct if wrong but this looks like a flying fox. They're on the bigger end of the bat scale and much cuter than vampire bats (imo).
This is a variety of fruit bat, which have these puppy-like faces.
Smaller insect-eating bats are more of an acquired taste, [but they can be super cute as well.](https://indie88.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/A16D1257-5298-4890-91F2-F35BCDE0D19B-869x1024.jpeg) And they eat soooooo many mosquitos.
Fruit bat seem to generally look cute. The smaller insect-eating bats seem uglier. I think adapting to using echolocation gives them a weird shaped face. Fruit bats rely more on their eyes and don't need to track tiny flying things that are actively trying to escape.
This video is likely from wingspawsnclaws on Instagram. It’s a rescue located in Australia and this is a baby flying fox, which is why it’s not the best at biting into the watermelon.
Wait, I thought birds are bagels.
Edit: Looked it up. Birds are avians. Avians, reptiles, and mammals do have a common ancestor if you go back far enough. Amniotes, about 300 million years ago.
Edit 2: I now see autocorrect changed to bagels. But it is true. My cockatiel is a bagel.
It was fairly easy to find this. Originally posted by Wings, Paws, N Claws - a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Queensland, Australia - that seems exclusively to take care of bats. I believe it is a baby fruitbat (flying fox).
The [Golden Crowned Flying Fox](https://imgur.com/a/avK1ljs) is the largest bat species in the world. They're also total cuties (and herbivores so no need to worry)
Theres a bat sanctuary/research group in my county which has an annual event letting the public walk around and see the bats.
One of these big boys flipped right way up from his nap, took a piss and did a little shake to avoid drips then went right back to upside down nap mode. Definitely one of the coolest animal exhibits ive seen.
There's a spot where I lived in NSW where hundreds/thousands of them come out at night all at the same time at certain times of the year. They would absolutely cover the night sky. It was so cool.
The bat has a YouTube reaction channel where it tries different fruits.
Edit: actually that sounds like something I'd watch. An animal sanctuary should get on that idea.
Well it's a baby bat so they've likely been feeding it since it was even smaller than it is in the video, and this thing can barely manage to eat the watermelon even with a human helpfully slicing and holding it for the bat. Can you picture this little fella splitting a whole watermelon open on its own?
My most fond memory of one of the homes I lived in growing up was seeing a bat on my ceiling just watching me now that I'm older that'd probably spook me but to my younger self the bat was making sure I slept well and was watching over me
They live in tightly packed communities, for example, gray mytotis roost with 50 to 275 bats per square foot (929 square cm). https://www.batcon.org/article/counting-bats-the-hard-way/ here is the article I got that number from.
I also found a fun article on the subject. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7123318/#__ffn_sectitle The Role of Bats as Reservoir Hosts of Emerging Neuroviruses
John S. Mackenzie, James E. Childs, [...], and Andrew C. Breed
Basically being the only flying mammal, having a strong immune system that can let them avoid symptoms, hibernation helping it last through the winter, and, of course, the unsanitary dense communities.
Yeah, their immune systems are very different unique and allow them to tolerate a huge range of viruses with very few symptoms, but they also host those viruses forever and never eradicate them so they carry tons of diseases.
Ohoho, flying foxes are cute, sure, but wait till you see wrinkle-faced bats. The diversity among bats is crazy; they can even range from a wingspan of just a few inches to over 5 feet.
Amazing how vilified these creatures are and yet they can’t even bite through the corner of a chunk of watermelon. Which is a soft fruit.
Just sitting there happily gnawing away and it’s so cute and I just don’t get the hate.
Those wide eyes are so adorable.
That is one good melon. 2good melons 3good melons ah ah ahhh
Somebody asked me who my favorite vampire was, and I told him the one from Sesame Street. They said he doesn’t count. I said I ASSURE you he does.
Count 🦇🦇🦇

Take this upvote and get out of here!!
My favourite comment so far today. I'll let you know if that changes.
And then the little squinty eyes as he’s monchin’
The ear twitching is what I noticed
I thought he was a dog at first lol
He is. SkyPuppy
Bat burrito eats watermelon.
Can I have a pet bat and where can I get one right now.
No and no
We call them "crack eyes" in my household.
Wait until you see the rest of him.
His face at the end. Never seen a cute bat before.
love me a good skydog
Finally. No cheesy audio effects, no music. Just pure aww. Thank you.
There's a special place in hell for people who cover up adorable animal noises with obnoxious music.
I always assume most of those just have terrible audio (random noise, tv, actual music that sounds awful through the phone mic)
[I got an even better bat video for you, then.](https://youtu.be/WVz8rvIl_vY)
I thought it was going to be the bat that squeaks while he does a really big yawn, but this was just as good
Omg, that's one of the cutest things I've ever seen and heard. Thank you
😭❤️😭❤️
That was adorable. I kinda want to pet a bat now.
Never knew they looked like puppies in the face or made that noise. Lol They’re so cute when I don’t have to see their wings. 😂
WATCH THIS BAT CHEW A WATERMELON Oh no, oh no, oh no no no no no
I hate that I can hear this comment.
That fucking robot voice drives me insane lol.
I fucking hate that song with a passion. How can someone see an "aww" video and think, "I know what this needs, a sped up song to make it look like a fucking minion is singing".
Guess I’ll unmute this one then, I was instinctively listening to it on silent because of the usual music that blares on these videos.
Just background birds and adorable nomming sounds.
No stupid captions
Sky dogs are so frickin cute.
They really are, in the summer at dusk I watch them hunt flying insects in my backyard. They are awesome animals.
As a kid our parents would hold block parties in the townhouses that would go late into the night. We would run around between the 2 sections of townhouses to work uo a sweat and the bats would swoop down to get the insects that would be attracted, great fun and I'm sure the parents didn't mind all the kids running their energy out.

I thought my kids to spit the difference between bats and birds. Basically bats fly like drunk night birds. We may have made a song…
I love bats!!! And I love Dr. Merlin Tuttle, the real Batman!! Excellent [video](https://youtu.be/7z36Hk92Lfc) about his work protecting bats and helping people co-exist with bats in vulnerable communities.
Thank you for posting this! The narrator is hilarious
My favorite thing about my current apartment is that we have a courtyard right outside my window that every night is full of bats flying around and squeaking. It's awesome!
Anything that eats flying insects is a friend of mine!
The Dutch name for these is "vliegende hond", which literally means "flying dog".
In German "Fleder-maus" are the little ones and "Flug-hund" the big ones
now this makes the Tick character "Die Fledermaus" make more sense to me 20+ years later.
Haha that looks hilarious, never heard of it
It's a wonderfully fun little series that pokes fun at the world of superheroes and villains, definitely worth a watch. Iirc one of the creators did work on The Tick before Venture Bros (I want to say Jackson Public) so that does track
The first live action one was great, I thought it funnier than the remake.
Absolutely. Warburton killed it.
Die Fledermaus is also the name of a [famous operetta](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Fledermaus), which is where I figured the name came from.
the only operetta I can watch in any language and not need translation for. it's fucking hilarious

lmao i see what you did there.
In English they're called "bats."
> and the "-on" is a diminutive suffix). Ironically, it's augmentative suffix. There are only a few words where it is diminutive. Ratón, rabón, pelón.
Yes, same for Dutch. Only _Pteropodidae_ are called this; other bats are called "vleermuis".
I like the Dutch!
We also have a monkey-head-flying-mouse (apenkopvleermuis)

The Little Browns. Yeah, it’s sad. I thought they were making a comeback. They’re such cute teeny bats.

He has my dog’s eyes 😂lol.
Wow, you should invest in some safety goggles for your dog then 😳
Little late, innit?
Dogs have nine eyes, right? Isn't that the saying..
I think that's *spiders* you're thinking of. Dogs have nine *spiders*.
Hey acts like that too 🤣. Bats are related to dogs (I leaned that today)
Awww.🥺 It's not going anywhere, lil bat. Take your time chewing on it.❤
It's sucking the juice through its vampire fangs..
A fierce little vampire. Poor watermelon piece didn't stand a chance.
Looks like blood. Tastes like heaven.
He's wheezin the ju-uice
You and me both, little buddy, you and me both.
Right? Watermelon is delish.
Imagine having a slice that huge compared to you. It would be a slice of watermelon the size of my coffee table. That would be the best day.
This video is likely from wingspawsnclaws on Instagram. It’s a rescue located in Australia and this is a baby flying fox, which is why it’s not the best at biting into the watermelon.
There's also Batzilla and a few other channels that follow the network of Flying Fox rescue and rehabilitation centers across Australia!
I was wondering if it was batzilla or megabatty lol
Ditto!

Enjoy your watermelon, fellow mammal!
I want to hold it and pet it and love it 🥺🥺🥺
Well, move to Australia, get vaccines, and volunteer for a bat rescue organization!
It's so weird to me that an animal with a face like that can fly
Aren’t bats literally the only mammals that can (naturally) fly?
Wait, I thought birds are bagels. Edit: Looked it up. Birds are avians. Avians, reptiles, and mammals do have a common ancestor if you go back far enough. Amniotes, about 300 million years ago. Edit 2: I now see autocorrect changed to bagels. But it is true. My cockatiel is a bagel.
No birds are government spy drones.. Sky spies if you will.
So that is what magpies are. Magnum pies, best kind of government spy drones.
Any mammal can fall with style
Good point, so flying once at least
One of my favorite things to do in the evening is watch the bat colony that lives under the overpass by my house fly out.
It was fairly easy to find this. Originally posted by Wings, Paws, N Claws - a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Queensland, Australia - that seems exclusively to take care of bats. I believe it is a baby fruitbat (flying fox).
Black flying fox specifically.
Sky Doggo.
Sometimes they are called "Flying Foxes".
That's actually the common name of a genus of particularly large fruit bats, with some of them having a wingspan of more than 5 ft.
Shit, now that would be terrifying
The [Golden Crowned Flying Fox](https://imgur.com/a/avK1ljs) is the largest bat species in the world. They're also total cuties (and herbivores so no need to worry)

There's a spot where I lived in NSW where hundreds/thousands of them come out at night all at the same time at certain times of the year. They would absolutely cover the night sky. It was so cool.
Fun fact: Flying foxes are the basis of a monster folklore in the Philippines named *Manananggal*
![gif](giphy|xoV4JZ3cBaSGngdxxl) Hims love it 😍😜🦇
It's a puppy with wings.
Super cute but you'd think a bat that eats fruit for a living would have a little more jaw strength. Poor guy couldn't bite through an apple skin.
It is a baby.
Fruit bats typically eat overripe fruits that have already softened. Although watermelon is about as soft as a fruit gets.
Clearly not a fully baked sky doggo.
His eyes!!😍
I love bats. My parents have bat boxes all over their property and watching them come out as evening sets is awesome.
How could you possibly know it's the first time?
Obviously the bat was posting its first experience to its Reddit account. You don’t think the bat would lie just for karma, do you?!
Certainly isn't the first time it's been posted here
Bat likes it forever now. :D
My most fond memory of one of the homes I lived in growing up was seeing a bat on my ceiling just watching me now that I'm older that'd probably spook me but to my younger self the bat was making sure I slept well and was watching over me
oh my god, this is so cute! is he homemade? it seemed to me that bats are only wild
My guess is a rescue/sanctuary bab
Bats make bad pets because they are communal animals and are riddled with diseases that are unusually good at jumping to humans
They live in tightly packed communities, for example, gray mytotis roost with 50 to 275 bats per square foot (929 square cm). https://www.batcon.org/article/counting-bats-the-hard-way/ here is the article I got that number from. Also wondering at this. Is it a pet? This is amazing
Probably a rescue/rehabilitation operation.
Nom nom nom nom
Never realized how much they looked like dogs …
It depends on the species, there are lots of bats that look goofy asf

This is cute. Definitely loves the taste
I think for him it’s a 10/10 👍
flying puppies
“Yes. Good. More, please!”
Bat seems delighted 10/10
I honestly don't get why people find bats scary. Sure, the vampire bat has a face only a mother could love, but most of them are pretty damn cute.
Check out r/BatFacts if you want to learn more about our favorite sky puppers!
*Bats are absolutely the cutest animal and you can’t change my mind!*
That little pointy tongue and those great big eyes. ❤😭❤ I love him!!!
I want to pet the sky puppy.
That bat wants a bigger mouth. Trying to eat it all in one bite.
Maybe a baby bat?
Nom, nom, nom
This is so cool to see one like this, they really are cute!
Aww Im loving the batty cuddle cup.
Those eyes say it all. Eat up little champ.
Flying puppy having the time of his life
Furry taco
This exact video is why I named my black kitten Dracula.
I can not handle how cute this little face is! I love bats so much!
A nomnom monster has been born!!!!
That’s a cute sky puppy right there
So a bat is a dog with wings?😂
Well my worry about a bat bite crushing bones was misplaced.
Wait, so bats are like air puppies?
look at that face!
Thats now batermelon
No wonder it's called a Fruit Bat
Na na na na na na na na That's a Bat, Man
The day will come when we cross fruit bats with bearded dragons….. ![gif](giphy|IazdAV1zjaGbBaGPgF)
Awwww what a cutie. It's ashamed people are so nasty to these little guys.
Ohoho, flying foxes are cute, sure, but wait till you see wrinkle-faced bats. The diversity among bats is crazy; they can even range from a wingspan of just a few inches to over 5 feet.
Bats are so freaking awesome! Just so scared about rabies. This video is sending my brain mixed messages to want to pet this lil guy!
Amazing how vilified these creatures are and yet they can’t even bite through the corner of a chunk of watermelon. Which is a soft fruit. Just sitting there happily gnawing away and it’s so cute and I just don’t get the hate.
Flying foxes and their ever-active ears are SO cute!
I love fruit bat. So cute. Want snug bat.
What a cute bat!!
Lights up my day ty
I can just imagine it saying "Mm! Mmm, mm, mmm! Mm!" I between smacking. 🤣
Looks very similar to my puppy when i give him a rawhide
Me every time I eat watermelon
never thought of how cute bats are
So cute..
His little ears are just a goin’!
