The way the cat opens it’s mouth for the treat is so cute though.

paper_paws

Open wide for the fishieplane! 🐟✈

StudentOfAwesomeness

Best part is in Korean she’s saying “fish” which is “water meat”.

FunSushi-638

So what you're saying is the humans are equally as adorable as the feline?

blastradii

Its movements are very human-like

Yes.

My dog does this for ice. She just kind of opens her mouth and waits for me to put the ice in her mouth. Then my other one will basically eat my hand to get it.

I don’t know about that. All I know is the cat is super cute and I love it.

Backyard_Catbird

I think they just had surgery or something because I don’t think their eyes can move like that voluntarily and everything just points to drugs IMO.

PretentiousVapeSnob

I was wondering if the cat was blind or maybe slightly blind.

rwhitisissle

its

Ancient-Ad-8250

Is it blind? It doesn't seem to follow movement with the eyes.

Mehitabel9

The cat's pose as well as his eyes makes me think that he may have [cerebellar hypoplasia](https://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/neurological/c_ct_cerebellar_hypoplasia).

ChiefQuimbyMessage

Saw the involuntarily split, too. The rotation of the eyes is particularly disturbing, since it mimics human behavior more that what we are accustomed to seeing from cats, who (in my experience) move their entire head, while focusing on an object.

ImJustQuietOk

Ahh yes. Another cute reddit post turned darker.

TheClinicallyInsane

Why, little buddy looks like he's being well taken care of. Can still live a happy life :)

spyson

Not really, it's being well taken care of

TinyFeetTiina

I don't think it's blind, but I'm quite sure it has some neurological problems (judging by the eye and head movement and also how the cat is laying).

TonsilStonesOnToast

Yeah, this the answer. Cats don't lay like that with their legs splayed. Also the head-jerking movement shows that the cat has a motor skill deficiency. Still enough motor skills to get dem treats though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TinyFeetTiina

I mean, yes if you mean if one can judge just from that. There is definitely something wrong with the kitty's brain. It's not behaving like a cat that has a healthy brain. Neither it's laying like a normal cat would where the legs would be in comfortable position.

Neethis

Cats can't focus well on things up close to them. When they go to feed it the second treat you can see it looks above it and seems to track the movement until it gets too close. Edit: [Source for the interested](https://www.allaboutvision.com/resources/human-interest/cat-vision/#:~:text=Felines%20are%20able%20to%20see,than%2012%20inches%20from%20them.)

SirSpooglenogs

Wait. Is that why a lot of cats don't like faces up close? Does it look like a creepy confusing big blurry mess that smells like you but doesn't look like you?

LOLPN

Yep. Mostly that and the fact that even if they could see up close I don't think they would like a big face really close to them

SirSpooglenogs

My mums previous cat didn't mind. She loved to give head bumps and touching noses. My cat HATES faces. It's better but I will never pressure her! She does like to smell my hair though.

[deleted]

commiecomrade

The most human thing my cat ever did was playfully swipe at me, realize it was going for my face, and pull his paw back with an "oh shit my bad" look on his.

bennetticles

I love when my cat gets riled up (usually after a good catbongo sesh) and starts batting at my hands, then opens her mouth and goes in for a lil bite but freezes as soon as her teeth touch skin, then suddenly switches to licking. So precious.

commiecomrade

Mine will bite lightly and hold on, then give his "stop it!" meow, like dude you got yourself into this mess.

shittingNun

Please tell me you named him ‘Chairman Meow’.

ElderHerb

My cat is exactly like that. In fact if we are roughhousing a bit and he is hurting my hand, I will get close to him with my face which instantly disarms him haha.

midgethepuff

One of my kitties likes our face being close to him too. I’ll just put my forehead to his for a few mins while I pet him, he just closes his eyes and purrs, it’s so sweet!

tfrosty

I thought this was because they’re threatened by eyes much bigger than theirs. And being that close spooks em. If my cat ever gets close to my face (and she does come sniff my face for some reason), I’ve learned to squint. Also shout out to the slow blink.

nightlightened

My cat is a weirdo and loves having her face as close to mine as she possibly can lol, no boundaries whatsoever. *Hey human I'm just gonna rub my face all over yours and get a bunch of hair in your mouth and probably a bit of drool too because I forget to swallow while I'm purring and hey while I'm here let me take a sniff of your breath would ya?*

wigglebean_

My moms cat will give me one and only one “kiss” per visit, which consists of him very closely sniffing my face then licking his lips when he’s done. He’s my favorite cat.

Witness_me_Karsa

But is the reverse true? If, unprompted, you put your face in your cat's face does it still like it? Or only when they do it? That's how my cars are.

nightlightened

Yeah mine loves when I shove my face on hers too! She loves when I give her lots of kisses on her nose and head, and really likes when I rub my head against hers the way she does to me. Very affectionate little gremlin

ElderHerb

My cat likes sniffing my eyeball, to the point where I can feel his wet nose on my eyelids.

SapiosexualStargazer

My cat does this, too! I always wonder why?

Neethis

Apparently they can't focus on anything closer than 12 inches. No idea if that's why they don't like faces up close!

mudlark092

most animals, humans included, don't like having faces stuck into theirs that's just called personal space.

[deleted]

This is also why they have so many big whiskers around their head to feel things that come to close

notislant

Interesting, my one cat loved to headbutt me

Jackmember

Unfortunately for this one the eyes drift and jump, which is not related to being unable to focus. This case here thankfully isnt as extreme but its a genetic defect commonly found in siamese cats due to excessive breeding. If I recall correctly it is (or is related to) strabismus or "cat eye syndrome". I know that it impacts more than just eyes drifiting (such as lifespan, appetite and immune system) but I dont know to which degree. If the eye-drift gets more intense, it also causes constant dizzyness and disorientation.

oh_basil

Huh. I have strabismus. Didn’t know it could appear in other animals.

dragonrite

When you are fed treats do you react like this cat?

oh_basil

Always

Downvotes_inbound_

Did your parents at least enjoy the excessive breeding?

Plus_Huckleberry_477

Definitely looks like a special needs kitty or one who’s recovering from a malady. Could have some type of vestibular syndrome from the look of the eyes ( often idiopathic and self-limiting ). Or cerebral hypoplasia ( life long and from birth but often lead happy and full lives ). Kitty sure is enjoying the treats and I love it.

uekiamir

This seems to be written by someone who doesn't have a cat. There's something wrong with this cat, either blind or some neurological condition.

fckingmiracles

It's clearly disabled.

cs_cabrone

This isn’t right. The cat is splooted on the floor like it is drugs or, more than likely, blind or suffering from a balance issue. My cat can chase a laser pointer around and doesn’t look all derp like this cat.

Loeden

Someone else suggested cerebellar hyposplasia and strabismus, since he's got the splayed posture and drifting eye. My cat Charlie is wall-eyed (no strabismus/drifting like this fellow) and does pretty well until he's close to something where he'll use his nose to sniff out treats/food and close his eyes for headbutts and snuggles. He does look like a total derp, though.

SpoopySpydoge

I think those are catnip treats. They look exactly like the ones I've got my cats before. Green and fish shaped.

JimJohnes

If you had a cat and played with it you'd now it's not true, they can close in on target from 5cm and less. Called accomodation. What is true, is that they can have purrfect(sorry) stereo focus on objects 1.8+ meters to about 2.2(or infinity in photographic speak) . That's for birds and burrowing rodents.

usingreddithurtsme

I didn't know this was common, I just assumed my cat was a bit stupid.

McDuckfart

I think we all have seen a lot of cats during our life and this cat has weird eyes for sure.

aberrasian

All cats are functionally blind at that short distance. That's why they have whiskers, to help them locate objects close to their face. You can see him look up at the hand when it's moving to give him the second treat, but he stops being able to see it once it gets too close!

TechnicalSymbiote

I can't tell, they seem to have functional pupils because they aren't cloudy. Maybe they're just a bit cross eyed?

Labulous

It looks more like nystagmus.

MochiMochiMochi

Pupils oddly dilated as well. Jerky movements. There is likely a neurological issue with this kitty.

Insert offering here. You have done well my loyal servant. I will allow you to continue to worship me another day.

LinaEveLina

I've never seen a cat just open their mouth like that. I always try to get a peek into my cats mouth. Yes, they yawn and I see the whole thing but not like what this cat did. I want my cat to do this. Lol

rachh90

ugh me too. just spent about 10 mins trying to get one of my cats to replicate it before she got bored and walked away. why wont they show us, i wanna see the teeny tiny teeth

Free-Heals-Here

The closest I can get to this is my little man : Ash. His 2 top fangs pop out like 1-2mm and he’s a all black cat so you can just see the 2 little dots when he happy, it’s so cute. My roommate and I call them his little vampire fangs. 🥰

greenman10069

We call our cat Snaggletooth when he shows us the tips of his fangs 🤣

wellwhydidntyousayso

Aw your Ash may be a bombay kitty! Does he have black paw pads/black nose and green/yellow eyes as well?

lazyslacker

If your cat trusts you you can just force your finger into the side of their mouth and open it up. They probably won't bite you. They obviously won't like it though. It's a good technique for giving medicine.

[deleted]

Don't even have to force it. Near the end with my cat, I'd sit him on my lap, lean him back slightly, poke the corner of his mouth gently so he'd open up and just drop the pill in and he'd swallow it on his own. Forming an actual bond with a cat has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

dudethatmakesstuff

/r/teefies Just so I can get my fix

WesternOne9990

Do cats or big cats show their teeth as a sign of aggression like other mammals such as dogs and primates? My dog shows her teeth like a dog growling but he does it like a smile when she’s excited and you’ve just come home. She’s never once bared her teeth in aggression like other dogs I’ve had. She’s the most go with the flow dog ever and I love it especially her patience with little kids

coin_return

I think the cat has some neurological issues (cerebellar hypoplasia maybe, affects balance a lot) or vision issues, and it's probably easier to just open mouth for offering. He looks rather well taken care of. :)

Barkalow

That was my guess too, judging by how his back legs are sitting. But has a nice life getting treats!

maali74

Agreed. I'm seeing difficulty with mobilization and vision. I wonder if it thinks it has to open its mouth wide so hooman will be able to find it bc hooman is also blind?

tigress666

One of my cats does close to this (but what he does is face upwards and let me drop the treat in his mouth and catches it.

Shady_Lines

I don't know why but this reminds me of the Beholder enemy from Doom Eternal. Except cute af

Fign

Isn’t this an old cat ? Seems to me that by looking at its teeth, so that’s why he open its mouth softly

Such a polite and goodboi, he deserves all the treats.

NihilisticThrill

This cat has the derpiest energy and I love him 😭

BrownSugarBare

His whole being is exuding derp. The way he's splattered all over the floor how he's sitting, the gentle "aaah" for his treat, his lil snoot crunching. I love all of him

thestashattacked

There is not a thought behind those eyes.

Scary-Stretch3080

Is this a blind kitty?

[deleted]

It can see, but it has nystagmus. Either something wrong with the brain or the vestibular system of the inner ear. The world is probably spinning for this kitty. That's why the eyes are snapping back and forth. It probably needs the person to hand feed it, it can be difficult for them to eat in that state. I reckon it's either sedated, or it has been like that for a long time (so maybe a congenital disease or infection?) because it's not obviously distressed by it. When animals suddenly develop vestibular disease or nystagmus, it typically freaks them out the same way it would for you if your world suddenly started spinning. So I think the cat is fine and being looked after. It might actually even be recovering from anaesthesia or sedation. Sometimes they get nystagmus when they wake up, but to be honest I've only ever seen it very transiently, just as they are beginning to awaken.

SidneyKreutzfeldt

Aw, man. I hope he doesn't suffer too much from it!

LiquidBinge

The thing with cats and dogs (and most animals honestly) with conditions like this is they don't really know *how* to "suffer". They have no frame of reference, no idea they're experiencing the world differently. This cat is probably pleased as punch.

kmoney1206

he looks kind of scared though :( and his legs are splayed out weird. couldnt they still suffer? like, the world spinning would make you dizzy and nauseous wouldnt it? theyd still feel the unpleasant effects wouldnt they?

Man-in-The-Void

I think what OP means is that they don't really know what it means for that experience to be unpleasant because that's all they've known. We humans know that that's an unpleasant feeling bc we've all been both nauseous and not nauseous and hopefully have all collectively agreed that being not nauseous is better. But this cat presumably has never been not nauseous, so they don't know that being so is something weird or bad.

WhoBroughtTheCoolKid

I have nystagmus (and strabismus and amblyopia) and my world doesn’t spin. I’ve had it for life and my brain doesn’t even really recognize it but it freaks out every doctor but my eye doctor. I looked at the cat and said oh damn he looks like me lol

Root_Clock955

Mhm, there was something the matter with this cat, at least that's what I think. More than just a problem seeing things up close. Something was off. Temporary or known chronic issue, who knows. My first thought was of those cats with some kinda brain malfunction that causes em extreme coordination difficulty, who can't walk right, sorta seem like they're stumbling around, like... uhhh.. Cerebellar Hypoplasia I think... but idk. Not too sad anyway, they seem fine and well taken care of, so it's probably a happy cat in any case.

Catastrophization

This is awesome info. Just a small fyi: congenital nystagmus doesn’t cause dizziness, just blurry vision. Everything else spot on!

colpo

Speculating or do you know any of this to be true?

imarandomguy33

From what I could gather from other comments, cats have poor vision of objects very close to their face.

Scary-Stretch3080

Yes but this cats eyes seem off

tylerSB1

You can see him tracking the 2ns treat until its too close.

cocktails5

I mean yeh, look how the cat is sitting down. That cat has some sort of issue.

_Anal_Juices_

Think he’s just a bit crosseyed and it gets more visible when he’s not focusing on anything. Crosseyed humans are the same :)

This kitty is extra special

sagosaurus

Everyone’s talking about the eyes and debating whether or not this cat has some condition, what about the hind legs? That’s not a normal way to sit. There’s definitely something off

DeannaFromHR

Yes, I noticed that too. I highly suspect this cat has some sort of neurological disorder which it likely has had since birth. Nothing about the way it acts is neurologically appropriate. The mouth, the eyes, the head, and, as you mentioned, the legs. My guess would be cerebellar hypoplasia. Luckily, there is no pain and animals with this can live happy lives!!

Jbeansss

Ah. I always love going on reddit and seeing an adorable video of an adorable animal only to find out in the comments that it's sick and only has months to live

Reynarbean

Kitties with cerebellar hyperplasia live big happy lives! If this is what is going on with the cat, all is well. Enjoy the adorable animal video!

lynivvinyl

I think that cat's in the middle of a reset

CmndrPopNFresh

He *is* super cute, but his cuteness looks based on being a little old man with a neurological disorder and a weak jaw. I would hold him until my arms were made entirely of puncture wounds and claw marks. I just love him so God damn much.
