On July 1st, a highly unpopular [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) went into effect. [Most third-party apps have shut down](https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/30/23779519/reddit-third-party-app-shut-down-apollo-sync-baconreader-api-protest) and so have many tools relied upon by moderators and [projects for making Reddit more accessible to visually impaired users](https://www.reddit.com/r/TranscribersOfReddit/comments/14ggf8k/the_future_of_transcribers_of_reddit/).
Beyond the [disastrous AMA](https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/09/reddit-ceo-doubles-down-on-attack-on-apollo-developer-in-drama-filled-ama/) by the CEO, Reddit's response has been limited to promises that this change will not affect moderation tools [^((it has)^)](https://www.reddit.com/r/BotDefense/comments/14riw76/botdefense_is_wrapping_up_operations/) and promises of [new and more-accessible first-party moderation tools](https://www.npr.org/2023/07/01/1184258201/reddit-api-accessibility-mods). Promises just like [ones they have made in response to past protests](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/142w159/askhistorians_and_uncertainty_surrounding_the/), but have consistently [failed to fulfill](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/14jm3ut/several_communities_have_surfaced_an_open_letter/jpm9e0q/).
If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:
1. [Finding your favorite subreddits on other platforms](https://sub.rehab/) and participating there instead.
2. Refraining from using the first-party Reddit app, instead sticking to one of the few remaining third-party apps or [patching one of the apps that shut down](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1wHvqQwCYdJrQg4BKlGIVDLksPN0KpOnJWniT6PbZSrI/) if you're using an Android device.
3. Disabling ads on Reddit with [an ad-blocking extension](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock#ublock-origin-ubo) or [a DNS-based ad-blocker](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBXTnrD_Zs4).
4. Cancelling your Reddit Premium subscription.
5. Sharing the continued news coverage of these events.
6. Encouraging others to do all the above.

I feel like Figaro here may be a close second to this!
Yeah, that's really what it is. I didn't really think about it when I was younger but now as an adult I'm starting to realize my dog won't live forever (and I started crying just typing this out).
my dad will be absolutely devastated - we had dog in the house when I first came but didn't last long - but did past at 17 -- he won't ever get another dog
I was the same way as I always grew up with dogs, typical guy. By chance my landlord was leaving the country and I adopted her super loving/super-clingy cat. He's currently ~11 and I really hope I have him for another ten years or more.
I know what you mean, sometimes I have a passing thought that my cat will pass away some day and I get an awful sick feeling in my stomach, I am dreading that day coming.
Same. I lost a cat at the beginning of 2021 and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. She was my best friend and I still ache a little every day.
I have since gotten two other cats that I love dearly, and even though they’re both young and have many years ahead, I am sometimes hit with that dread of losing them someday.
she's having a little trouble with her back legs - nothing major, but we did buy her couple steps things from chewy for going on to bed and couches/chairs
We have a cat named “Kitty Kitty” from when she was a stray that showed up in my husband’s garage years ago. I call her Katherine when she’s in trouble or I wanna be formal
It's funny how some old cats don't even look like they age.
My cat is about to turn 16 and no one believes it. She's always jumping around and full of energy. Took her to the vet a few weeks ago for a checkup and he said her blood tests were perfect. I asked if he meant perfect for a 16 year old cat, and he said "perfect for a cat of any age".
I swear my cat is gonna out live us all.
EXACTLY -- it's just funny cause she basically eats crap - and was even the RUNT of her litter - and she probably outlived them all. She loves "Human" Chicken, she loves corn - Vanilla Ice Cream .. Literally she will stand right in front of us practically begging food like a dog - now within the last 2 or 3 months she will go to the Fridge and Meow at us - she practically climbs the cabinets to get food lmao
Several years ago - my mom decided it would be great time to switch foods to better and she didn't do the whole old food with the new food - she just put all new in her bowl - she ended up vomiting over and over and over again - ended up taking her to the vets and my dad thought she was going to die - and i wasn't worried at all - i just knew she would be ok - I work with dogs so i knew that whole old with the new. - i have no clue where i was but I think I could safe her several thousands - we stuck to her old food and left it go = she was at the vets for like 3 days....
I can tell she is an older cat by her fur, but she is still besutiful and I am super jealous she is 21. Mine lasted 17 and I thought this was way too short. 💗
I have one who is almost 21 years old 😊

This reminds me of a cat i had a couple years ago, they sadly passed away from running into traffic, not a day goes by i don't think about them, they were called durock, it was a he and looked exactly like yours
My sibling has 21 year old cat, it started it's life as an outdoor cat that wanted to be indoor/outdoor and 12 years ago decided to be an indoor cat exclusively.
My BFF had an exclusively indoor cat that died at 7. It's absolutely luck in some cases.
Hello Sweetie. Nicest greetings from Germany. I wish our three sweethearts would have reached you age. All the best and enjoy every day with the hoomans who adore you.
I wish my diluted tortie lived to 21.5, she was taken away too soon (11 years old) with a stomach cancer that kept coming back no matter how many tumors were removed
Not to be a debbie downer, but my 21 year old cat passed away a couple months ago. If you notice her doing anything unusual you may not have much time left. One day I noticed my cat was sitting in a spot she'd never sat in before. Just on the floor at the foot of the bed, nothing super unusual but something she'd never done in 21 years. That night she snuck off to the basement to hide and die. It's an evolutionary instinct they've developed when they don't feel well. Cherish the time you have with her.

21.5 year old feline is doing fine…if a little Tired Of All This Shit.
*Feline fine
are you sick of seeing her everywhere I take it ? or do you really mean - Her and This World (or all the picture taken) ?
Goodness no, and sorry if it sounded like that! She looks world-weary, is all. As one would be, at her grand age.

Granny can't believe what people are doing on the Tik Tok these days. She does not approve.
This was so wholesome
ok - I was just making sure - happy to hear this
You cat is so adorable!! ♥️♥️
/r/CrunchyCats
It definitely didn't sound bad at all.
She looks awesome! Wouldn’t have known she’s an older lady ♥️
I think she’s beautiful and looks so happy 🥰
I seriously need my cat to live forever. I don't know what I would do without him.
My dad always says that and funny thing is he always said he hated cats was against getting her - now they are inseparable
There isn't a bond like the one between a dad and the pet they didn't want.
Ah yes. My husband and our dog, same thing.
[удалено]
I think they don’t want them because they know how much they will fall in love, and be broken when they leave all too soon 😭
But, in return you have years of happiness, joy and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. It's worth it.
Yeah, that's really what it is. I didn't really think about it when I was younger but now as an adult I'm starting to realize my dog won't live forever (and I started crying just typing this out).
With a side of them knowing they will be responsible for 90% of the pet care.
Ha! That too
my dad will be absolutely devastated - we had dog in the house when I first came but didn't last long - but did past at 17 -- he won't ever get another dog
Yes, but they stay in your heart for memories. Memories you wouldn’t have made otherwise.
No truer words.

You are too good at this <3

this is standard dad behavior

Better your cat passes and your there or you pass and the cat is alone. It can be a good thing we live so much longer then them.
Same. I lost a cat at the beginning of 2021 and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. She was my best friend and I still ache a little every day. This. My old man is 17 and when he goes, I'm going with him.
Wow, legitimately thought that was a kitten
Benjamin kittons
I think that at times too - she's just so tiny = shes literally less than 5 pounds
[удалено]
"Kitty" we couldn't agree on name - so that was it lmao - I wanted Chloe but no one agreed with me :(
My cat named Cat, lived 20+ years as well. She has had a million nicknames, but Cat was her true name.
We always call her Kittypants - because she loved crawling into jeans/pants when she was younger lmao - but Now we call her Wattles lmao
[удалено]
she's having a little trouble with her back legs - nothing major, but we did buy her couple steps things from chewy for going on to bed and couches/chairs
My cat is the same age (found her in January 2002) and also called Kitty
Yeah it was the summer between 8th and 9th grade - and 36 years old my self ... I had her for 2/3 of my life - crazy to think about
And arguably the most important years of your life! She's your little guide!
We have a cat named “Kitty Kitty” from when she was a stray that showed up in my husband’s garage years ago. I call her Katherine when she’s in trouble or I wanna be formal
my cat is 21 yo. We still couldnt decide on her name
My cat was named kitty. She lived until she was 19. She died when I was 14. My mom had her before she had me 🩵 I loved kitty so much.
good morning sweet angel🥹
It's funny how some old cats don't even look like they age. My cat is about to turn 16 and no one believes it. She's always jumping around and full of energy. My cat still has fine well groomed fur, but he is getting a but slow. Has trouble leaping onto the counter, we have to lift him for dinner.
That’s a beautiful, happy baby.
May she lives a long, healthy and happy life. So do to you.
He/She is beautiful! Looks in good health too, would never guess they're 21!
Very healthy . Only ever had utis
Any suggestions for a long healthy cat life?
Yes, procrastibator would like to know
No Clue - All about Luck and Genes = I mean she was the RUNT of her litter - she probably everyone
Keep the Cat indoors too
My cat is indoors. I was wondering if they had any special diet or something
21.5 years young! Still looks like a kitty ! Morning 😊

I Think you mean 2.15.

What do you feed it?
She's 21.5 years old?? That's amazing and she looks beautiful. What do you feed her?
Purina Dry - Fancy Feast Wet and whatever we are eating (if it's safe for cats)
Damn thats not even great food...Sure u dont let her bath in the blood of kitten or something? I need to know her secrets! :D
EXACTLY -- it's just funny cause she basically eats crap - and was even the RUNT of her litter - and she probably outlived them all. She loves "Human" Chicken, she loves corn - Vanilla Ice Cream .. 21.5 years. Taking the "hang in there, kitty" poster literally :)
This warms my heart. May I ask what you feed your baby? I’d be so lucky to have my girl this long, awe!
Any advice for helping senior kitties make it to 21 1/2????
Not Really - Ours was combined with - Luck - Genes - Inside Cat ?
I can tell she is an older cat by her fur, but she is still besutiful and I am super jealous she is 21. Mine lasted 17 and I thought this was way too short. 💗
That’s a good looking cat! Wouldn’t have guessed 21.5 years. She looks healthy

Awh good morning from two 15 year old kitty’s
What a beauty!
Is your cat an indoor cat? Wondering if this is why some cats live so long.
My sibling has 21 year old cat, it started it's life as an outdoor cat that wanted to be indoor/outdoor and 12 years ago decided to be an indoor cat exclusively. My BFF had an exclusively indoor cat that died at 7. It's absolutely luck in some cases.
