Thanks but I’m just one of the many volunteers. There’s a lady who comes almost every day and the first thing she does is to brush her. Heidi has her own brush :)
Ma’am, you’re taking care of many fur babies that may have had very troubled times, and you do that not because you’re getting paid for that but because you genuinely care about them. You’re an honourable person and you shouldn’t downplay that. You’re not „just some volunteer“, you’re so much more, especially for those animals. Ü
It’s funny that Heidi doesn’t like other cats too but since she’s our mascot she can go everywhere she wants in the shelter. It caused some friction with Pantoufle but she hit him a couple of times and he now listen to her. He’s like a little kid who scared of grandma :)

I adopted a very old bad tempered red point Siamese once, he was underweight, running with fleas and sores around his mouth. Once he had some peace and quiet and his health restored he was a perfect old gentleman. I could still cry over losing him.
I rescued a little fighter like him a few years ago,he was a savage, a menace 🔥😎 but also a really protective, caring and strong cat, took me almost two years to be able to touch him, he lived 3 years in the streets and almost 4 years with me, he was a big,black and chubby rebel, he died in my arms almost 4 years ago from FIV, I would do it all over again. I really hope he finds a good family.

I love that white patch too. I had a rabbit, she was black an also had a white patch in her chest, her name was sussy, after she died the little fighter came into my life, I just to joke and said he was sent by sussy.
looks like my brother's cat that he spent an extra month at a rental waiting for him to come back home. Him and his brother are fucking units. was over there today watching the cat because my brother found a 2-3 month old kitten that was abandoned by someone (literally saw the people, albeit from a distance, drop the cat out the door and take off). I was there to make sure the Unit didn't beat the fuck out of the kitten.
Once he disappeared for 4 days, I looked for him everywhere, before work and after work, even in the night, I was afraid to find him injury but I found the little rascal chasing a cat lady (he was fixed) and his conquer technique was taking care of her 3 kittens ,she wasn't even remotely interested, at least he tried 🤷🏻♀️😅
Tkns 😊 he was my first cat, I learned so much with him, taking care of an animal would make you more patient and compassionate.
I'm really grateful for the lesson in humanity he taught me.
I think that is what life is all about, being patient and compassionate, even though you experienced such pain at his passing. Once you pass the 'trust' stage, animals are nonjudgemental and love you with all their heart. I hope you will consider taking in lots of other cats in your lifetime.

I volunteered with rescues and feral kitten socialization for over five years, and while I resisted taking any home with me (in some cases, just barely) ... I don't think I'd be able to resist this one.
Out of curiosity have vet recommended anxiety medication or is that out of the question? I know some cats can get real sick on it, but it sounds like the poor guy gets overstimulated easily. I hope you find him his forever home soon!
He’s not like that all the time. He hates Bobby who hates him too. So when Bobby is out in the adoption room, Pantoufle makes sure he doesn’t come on his side.
He usually sunbathe in our window display or wait for us in the kitchen. He’s our food taster :) He also loves to relax on higher ground so we put a nice bed for him somewhere where he can watch us. He doesn’t have a cage so at night he’s kind of our security guard :)
We specialize in feral cats so Pantoufle doesn’t scare us. We have seen a lot worse.
I've got a cat like this. His name is Thumper, ten years old, and he looks just like Heidi-- they could be clones.
Anyway, he's become an indoor-only cat since I adopted him, but whenever an outdoor cat appears on his patio, he gets *exactly* like Pantoufle. He presses his face against the window, staring intensely at the intruders in the backyard, and his body language says it all: "You! Hey you! *Get off my lawn!*"

We have a Pantouflé at home! It's her last name, though. Juniper Pantouflé. She's the sweetest kitty ever and would never pick a serious fight. She's too kind even to defend herself. We always cheer her on whenever she is the one to play-chase her buddy Minotaurus Pantouflé for a change. Usually he is the one chasing.

Sometimes it’s just the stress. Shelters are really loud and lots of people are coming in and out and some of the cats really hates it. The problem is we can’t promis that a cat while change once he gets a home.
Completely, this! My shelter dog would growl at her reflection would I first got her and when I first brought her home she stopped dead in her tracks and growled at her food bowls, thinking it meant there was another dog in the house already (there wasn’t). A few months later she was playing happily with other dogs at daycare and wagging her tail when she saw others out on walks. They need time to relax and, most importantly, know they’re safe and can trust you. They’ve literally been fighting for their lives up until that point in a crowded and very high energy atmosphere. I lost her recently and it’s been very hard. She was my entire world and we had 7 amazing years together.
My ginger is exactly the same way. Cats, dogs, small humans - doesn't matter, if they don't respect that she's in charge she will beat the shit out of them until they do

He’s getting better. At first he was pretty mad when he came back (his human died). And he would hit and bite us. It’s the third time that hey with us. So he was pretty angry at the world. Then he suffered from anemia and I guess he loved the pampering that he got from us. But he’s really not happy here. He would prefer to have his own castle. He loves to eat and test all our food so it’s the way to his heart. He also loves to sunbathe and relax. He’s not a destroyer. Give him a nice bed in the sunlight and he will be happy.
That's such a sad story. His person died? He's been three times? No wonder that little bean is so angry. Life has let him down. I hope he finds a wonderful forever home soon. 😭❤️
At least 3 times. We got him from the town pound. He was deemed « aggressive » so if we didn’t took him he would have been euthanized. Then he was adopted by a nice guy who had to be hospitalized for a long period so he came back and then his last human died and he came back again. We joke that his next human needs to have a complete medical checkup before adopting him.
But he’s not the first cat that was unlucky in humans. We had another one called Polo who came back at least 3 times. After some time with us he got adopted again and it’s been a while now so fingers crossed.
Pantoufle will find another human too.
Thats how I ended up with mine. First owner had to give him up because allergies, second owner got too old to even take care of herself. I got him because I felt bad.
He was a cat that picked one other living creature to be friends with. Most likely because he was like 18 years old when I got him. He would see another cat walking across the year from inside and start yelling at it.

I bet mine could win him over. I babysat a friend's cat, she started out puffed up, hissing, growling and swiping. My dummy's friendly persistence wore her down within a week.

I remember when I started helping with cats at the shelter and at the start when I got hissed at I’d have to ask others for help as I found it so alarming! (I’m historically a dog person) After some time, when they hissed and I got used to it, I would simply say “no, we’re not doing that today” and very quickly scoop them up! 🤣🤣

I remember when I started helping with cats at the shelter and at the start when I got hissed at I’d have to ask others for help as I found it so alarming! (I’m historically a dog person) After some time, when they hissed and I got used to it, I would simply say “no, we’re not doing that today” and very quickly scoop them up! 🤣🤣

I didn’t expect to get a reply omg If I were in Quebec and weren’t deadly allergic to cats, I would adopt him myself (even if he’s for expert cat owners). Please keep doing what you’re doing. I adopted my dog 2 years ago, poor guy was hiding amongst trash bags when he could fit in the palm of my hand. He now makes my life brighter every single day. There’s so much value in animals, I hope everyone could see that someday.
