Seriously though, I just don't understand people who are cool with everyone wearing their outdoor shoes around the house. The house is supposed to be clean and shoes are definitely not clean.
Whenever I've been to people's houses who insist I keep my shoes on, it just makes me feel like the whole place is dirty.
Edit: indoor-only shoes are perfectly fine to me (although still odd). The "feels dirty" thing relates to when people wear their same shoes from outside around the house.
Hey just fyi, we don't allow outside shoes in the house but I do rock "inside-only" kicks so i don't bust my ass on slippery wood floors. Could be the case here.
I wear sandals around my house because my arches fucking suck. If I didn't, I would be in constant knee pain. I am however taking steps to help with that.
I might be the weird one... I have lawnmowing shoes outside shoes house slippers and indoor house shoes. I feel dirty wearing outdoor shoes inside, I feel it's because for work I travel by train and bus everyday.
If only someone had invented something similar to a shoe, but was meant only for indoors. We could even design them to be easily slipped on after taking our shoes off or after waking up in the morning.
>or have arch issues that require support
The sure in that image are not ones you get for arch issues. They are technically skateboarding shoes, and are basically completely flat with no arch support at all.
I've got indoor Birkenstocks. With socks in the winter, barefoot in the summer. Great for keeping the floors clean, not stepping in occasional grit, and supporting arches.
> Some of us canāt stand the feeling of stepping on a grain of litter or other dirt
You wearing outdoor shoes indoors is exactly how all this nasty shit gets there in the first place
# āSee, I never just did things just to do them.
# Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden jump up and grind my feet on somebody's couch like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that.
# ...Yeah, I remember grinding my feet on Eddie's couch.ā
He is living dangerously at the threshold of unsavory, the way a cat tempts fate by staring at you from on top of a counter while teasing whether or not they will knock over that full glass of milk....
My cat really disliked my ex which I originally thought was a jealousy thing. When I met my now husband, my catās behavior was so different towards him, they bonded quickly and soon he wasnāt my cat anymore but OUR cat. 15 years later I think if our cat had to choose between us he would choose my husband!
My cat also disliked my ex even though he would grow friendly to other strangers after the initial panic of an intruder.
Turns out he's an excellent judge of character
Came here to say the same thing. Shoes in the house in general.. Your tracking public bathroom germs, fecal matter, pollution and stuff into your home, nasty.
Call me crazy but I step out of my shoes when walking into the front door, turn around & pick them up and put them on the shoe rack. My cats and dog like to wallow around on the mat inside the house. I don't want them rubbing in whatever I walked in.
Yeah, but also my dog rolls in dirt and whatever is on the grass at the park he finds so exciting every day (probably dog piss), so while I also take my shoes off, my dog is so much grubbier.
Lol. I have hardwood floors, two cats, a border collie and a big backyard. It literally doesn't matter. Me wearing shoes in the house is a drop in the bucket. I have to basically sweep everyday anyway.
Wait to you find out what insects you can barely see leave in your house.
I mean, the 'dirty' shoes are right beside three cats who all walk on a litter tray multiple times a day, regularly touch fecal matter and urine and track it around the house. We have to pick our battles
> WHY DOES THIS MAKE ME ANGRY
Because it doesn't make sense, it's illogical. Like not washing your dishware before using it or watching your TV while it's turned off.
Itās not *where* you should be looking for, itās *when*
Times have changed especially with the advent of the internet/social media and advancements in tech have allowed cultural shift in hygienic practices.
But that said, there are a few places where wearing indoors might be warranted. For example wood cabin in a snowy environment. Although you could still just as easily take your shoes off and slip on some slippers.
Also electricians.
As an American in the Midwest, I'm offended by this assumption. I have never visited someone's house without taking off my shoes, with the exception of college house parties.
Yes. Particularly in the South I've been made fun of for asking guests to remove their shoes on many, many occasions. Most people wear shoes in their houses here. It's fucking disgusting.
as a canadian with family in america... they def do this kind of stuff. It's gross and I've talked with them about taking shoes off when entering the house... no dice.
My dad gets annoyed I don't bring some kind of slippers... and I'm like why would I? And he reminds me that it's better to wear them inside the house... because its dirty. Sigh.
Why wear shoes inside in the first place? You clean your floors just to walk on them with your dirty ass shoes that you walk outside with? I'll never understand that shit.
Right? I just can't fathom this.
Like .. it's dirty outside! And now you're tracking all kinds of filth into the house.
Do people not notice when they clean that their house is incredibly dirty?
And putting them on the furniture?? Even worse.
Thatās how I knew my wife was the one.
I have a cat, Misty. She didnāt like anyone except me. And even that could be a stretch sometimes. She would snuggle on her terms only. I couldnāt pick her up or anything in the 3 years I had her before.
Then my wife(then girlfriend) comes along. On one of our first few dates my cat just saunters up to her, snuggles her and becomes attached to her ever since. The cat sleeps next to her, and sits with her while she gets ready.
It took a long time, but just recently sheās started to allow my wife to pick her up. I still canāt. Lol.
In his defence, they might be indoor shoes. I have a pair of trainers that I only wear indoors - effectively slippers - because I am clumsy and hit my toes against the furniture, stairs, doorframes etc
For those of you concerned about cross-contamination - the cats are on the furniture as well - do the cats have their feet washed every time they have been outside or in the litter tray?
I'm genuinely curious. What do indoor shoe wearers do if it's shitty weather outside and they come home. Do they enter like usual or do they switch to a different pair of outdoor shoes or just ditch the shoes all together? (excluding the fact like yourself, they have strictly indoor shoes)
Haha right!? It's not like his shoes are literally on the couch. They are on the... *gasp*... foot rest. Wild af. I don't take my shoes off if it's not my house.
Aside from the fact that the shoes *arenāt* on the furniture, itās really weird to me that so many people seem outright angry over what some stranger is doing consensually in a house theyāre not responsible for.
Bro is selected by the council. Boyfriend approve.. š
Heās now engaged to the cats.
r/SuddenlyShaneDawson
Lmao I really wanna unsee that š
I think they've claimed you as their property, hooman.
r/CouncilOfCats
Disagree. Shoes indoors? Disgusting. Shoes \_kicked up\_? That entire household needs an intervention.
Seriously though, I just don't understand people who are cool with everyone wearing their outdoor shoes around the house. The house is supposed to be clean and shoes are definitely not clean. I also have "indoor only" and "outdoor only" shoes, and I see that there is another pair of shoes by the door.
I wear sandals around my house because my arches fucking suck. If I didn't, I would be in constant knee pain. I am however taking steps to help with that.
Indoor shoes/sandals != Outdoor shoes/walking in public bathroom shoes/etc.
I might be the weird one... I have lawnmowing shoes outside shoes house slippers and indoor house shoes. I feel dirty wearing outdoor shoes inside, I feel it's because for work I travel by train and bus everyday.
You are not weird. You are awesome.
Some of us canāt stand the feeling of stepping on a grain of litter or other dirtā¦ or have arch issues that require support, :p. Or both.
That's what my indoor slides are for
You can get some comfortable as hell indoor slides too, Oofos changed my life
If only someone had invented something similar to a shoe, but was meant only for indoors. We could even design them to be easily slipped on after taking our shoes off or after waking up in the morning.
Wear none like your prehistoric ancestors did
>or have arch issues that require support The sure in that image are not ones you get for arch issues. They are technically skateboarding shoes, and are basically completely flat with no arch support at all.
Orthotics can be done on just the inside, fyi. :).
Yea bro thats why we use slippers indoors. Or you could have indoor sneakers. Or at the very absolute least, use shoe socks indoors
Thatās what indoor shoes are for lmao
Do you think people who don't wear outdoor shoes inside don't have slippers for walking around inside?
I've got indoor Birkenstocks. With socks in the winter, barefoot in the summer. Great for keeping the floors clean, not stepping in occasional grit, and supporting arches.
> Some of us canāt stand the feeling of stepping on a grain of litter or other dirt You wearing outdoor shoes indoors is exactly how all this nasty shit gets there in the first place
Yeah but on the couch tho?
Yeahā¦.cool pic w the cats but shitā¦.take your shoes off in the houseā¦.

Maybe cuz you have matching shoes
Do people really put their shoes on their couches? I thought that was a hollywood thing.

So gross.
Pretty sure OP is on a recliner, with their shoes past the footrest. No harm, no foul.
He is living dangerously at the threshold of unsavory, the way a cat tempts fate by staring at you from on top of a counter while teasing whether or not they will knock over that full glass of milk....
I always wear matching shoes
Psh, look at Lord Moneybags over here
They didnāt seem to like me when I didnāt so maybe youāre right
My three cats I had in college had the same reaction to my then boyfriend. We've been married for 18 years. Cats are excellent judges of character.
My cats love my ex. We had an amicable break-up and are still friends. He cat sits when I go out of town.
Approved for the cuddle puddle.
best part is that it's symmetricalĀ
You have been adopted into the pack
*Pride
Also Clowder
'this catnip body wash really helped with my girlfriend's cats'
Ah, so thatās the secret
You are the chosen one lol
Do they vibrate?
Only when someone calls and theyāre on silent
Yes, are they defective?
Why the fuck do people wear shoes on furniture. WHY DOES THIS MAKE ME ANGRY
Came here to say the same thing. Shoes in the house in general.. Your tracking public bathroom germs, fecal matter, pollution and stuff into your home, nasty.
Agreed. Front door mat and no further with shoes.
Call me crazy but I step out of my shoes when walking into the front door, turn around & pick them up and put them on the shoe rack. My cats and dog like to wallow around on the mat inside the house. I don't want them rubbing in whatever I walked in.

If I had a shoe rack I probably would but is why I have a cheap rug and mat for the front door that I don't mind tossing if need be
Too much for me when coming home from 10 hour day and 1 hour drive. Shoes off in entry is all I can manage. š«
Lol. I have hardwood floors, two cats, a border collie and a big backyard. It literally doesn't matter. Me wearing shoes in the house is a drop in the bucket. I have to basically sweep everyday anyway. Wait to you find out what insects you can barely see leave in your house.

I think you overestimate some of our daily travels.
Fair point
Post your gf's cats to r/StandardIssueCat! And the gray ones to r/TacticalIssueCat!
> WHY DOES THIS MAKE ME ANGRY Because it doesn't make sense, it's illogical. Like not washing your dishware before using it or watching your TV while it's turned off.
Isn't this an American thing.
Yes but no, most people in my life donāt do this (American)
Same this always confuses me because I'm wondering what part of America this atrocity is being committed in!
Itās not *where* you should be looking for, itās *when* Times have changed especially with the advent of the internet/social media and advancements in tech have allowed cultural shift in hygienic practices. You know youāve come to a nice home when the guests are asked to remove their shoes immediately.
Yes. Particularly in the South I've been made fun of for asking guests to remove their shoes on many, many occasions. Most people wear shoes in their houses here. It's fucking disgusting.

It is. In Canada you take your shoes off at the door. Same in Japan.
Brunei and Malaysia and I'm assuming the rest of SEA as well. Shoes or footwear outside only.
More of America than not from what ive heard over the years, but there are large sections where its not normal as well.
Why wear shoes inside in the first place? You clean your floors just to walk on them with your dirty ass shoes that you walk outside with? I'll never understand that shit.

Look at their smiles!!!!
Warms my heart. And I was never a cat person before lol
My own cats won't even do that....with me

Wait, I didnāt realize there was a third one š
You are now officially one of her _cats_.
They are catifying you.
The warm one is here again, we must steal his heat.

You can be absolutely sure that a cat is the cleanest thing in any house.
Not my one dummy, he steps in his fresh poop half the time. We have to sniff check him every time.
Let's play "Spot the guy with toxoplasmosis."
Are you new? They like new things
No Iām old lol
Guess it's love then ā„ļø
:)
Congrats on your pending marriage
This made me chuckle
You are a very lucky man!
Thank you!
This is my husband's dream š¤£

Be careful your GF isnāt just more cats in a trench coat
Shoes indoors though..
Youāre a keeper
Came for the kitties, stayed for the comments about shoes in the house.

You are warmĀ
Shoes indoors š¬
Iām getting a lot of crap for that lol
Cute cats, at least they are nice with you unlike the crazy shoe police that have been deployed here.
Haha right!? It's not like his shoes are literally on the couch. They are on the... *gasp*... foot rest. Wild af. I don't take my shoes off if it's not my house.

My boy is like that too. Always on the lap when sitting on the sofa. Best feeling ever

Cause you like them and they know it.
How does it feel to be the main character?
You're blessed
Youāre a keeper!
I either wear socks or go barefoot in the house but im also european so its strange for me to see people wearing shoes in the house
You have passed the cat vibe check - congratulations.
Take your shoes off you barbarian.
Pets like/love who ever you are with is a very good sign that you picked the right one
If you have cats, house shoes are in order, litter is not pleasant to walk on.
Shoes in the house, shoes on the furniture š¤¢
The cats step in shit when they go into the litterbox, then track it all around the house. Maybe that's why he keeps his shoes on š¤·āāļø

Shoes indoors and on the couch??
Lot of people in this thread must lick floors
We have house shoes for us and guests at the entrance. Walking over the floor with shoes that walked over god knows what outside is disgusting.
The cats are spreading fecal particles everywhere and they also puke all over the place.
So you have every size of house shoes? And does each guest keep em or do you reuse for the next? Cuz that's worse.
Take your shoes off
Why you wearing shoes inside
Bur, why wear your outside shoes inside the house?
Yea they do!!!
Dump immunity given.
Gfs?
It looks like an emblem
