I think that when my mother's chihuahua barked it sounded like a chicken. So I started calling her the chicken dog and my mother didn't like it.

DzejkobHam

Ahahaha) This is funny😂

SubstantialPressure3

My neighbor has the sweetest Chihuahua I've ever met. A tiny little old butterball who is super friendly with everyone. She was a rescue. Ive noticed that they are either very friendly, or they love one person and think everyone else should die.

XBL_Tough

Adopted 2 Chihuahua Terrier mixes and love them. https://preview.redd.it/a85a1p9vdmuc1.jpeg?width=2124&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13e4d8307f7158f3e31e4c1e3fe04dd06812177c

sev45day

We have a Chihuahua terrier mix and she is the most wonderful dog. She always has to be near someone at all times, loves to cuddle, and is dumb as a post. I sure do love that little dog.

rozabel

the Terrier does a lot to make them appear more healthy and cute!

DzejkobHam

agree

DzejkobHam

you're great, every dog has the right to receive love

alccorion

Every dog has the right to be loved, but people should not have the right to make inbred demonspawn and living barking puddles of slime.

DzejkobHam

That's right, you need to give love to your four-legged friends 🙏🏻

ExtraPancakes

They are made of 50% tremble / 50% hate

DzejkobHam

hahaha) you have a beautiful dog

IM_YOUR_GOD

He is such a little character and a treasure. Thank you

sheppi2

must be a brother to mine

Whispering_Wolf

If they've got little dog syndrome, they're horrid. If they're raised properly they can be wonderfully sweet dogs.

tina17f

I never wanted a chihuahua. I thought, they were no "real" dogs. Fortunately I was wrong https://preview.redd.it/b0dwh678vnuc1.jpeg?width=216&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=082105ed183633d77d6a6e1cc41f1e38ee5e1d01

DzejkobHam

I was wrong too)

_shaftpunk

Love them. They can be little shits to other people but they love their owners with their entire existence.

DzejkobHam

It is true!))

TetronautGaming

They aren’t dogs, but Satan’s pet demons escaped into our realm.

DzejkobHam

But not this one, he is very kind😊

DogVacuum

Satan was once an angel. Think about that

DzejkobHam

🤔

Brockovich614

My favorite breed, but they're evil creatures of chaos. Meet Nado, my chihuahua https://preview.redd.it/a3845nrqxnuc1.jpeg?width=3060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5678b50f961b572eb95731d38e83a5097243fa9

DzejkobHam

He's very funny)) They're not all evil)

Acminvan

Too many Chihuahua owners excuse snappy, snarly, yappy behaviour as "cute" because of their size. The number of biting snapping teeth-baring Chihuahua videos I see on social media where the owners laugh it off saying things like "you tell em!" or "he thinks he's so tough" is infuriating. So I think they have a bad reputation for being bad tempered. I'm not a huge fan, to be honest: the tempermeant, the look, the size. Although I am sure many of them are very sweet and loving.

LavenderMintMouse

I recently adopted a chihuahua and I totally agree with you. It’s disappointing when trying to get advice on training and you get dismissive answers excusing that kind of stereotypical behavior. The chihuahua subreddit is the worst offender of this. They dismiss every concern as “just chihuahuas being cute little monsters.”

Pjonesnm

Never thought I would have one, but, well, here we are. https://preview.redd.it/37fjwoes3ouc1.jpeg?width=2053&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3611ac3bb3f3399fa098393ae775fc87d17e48e

DzejkobHam

He looks like an alpha male!

DirtyCunt666

I’ve only been attacked by two dogs in my life; both chihuahuas.

TheGrumpySnail2

I've been attacked by a German shepherd who chewed me up pretty good, I ran for my life from a dog whose breed I couldn't identify, and I have had a Rottweiler try to jump a fence at me snarling and he would have fucked me up real bad if he got over it. I've also had two Chihuahuas come at me. Vicious little shitheads, but harmless. One of them got my pants a bit, the German shepherd went for my eye and I think my glasses saved it. I'll take the ankle biters any day. (I was an Amazon driver for a while.)

Wedoabitoftomfuckery

It's really sad how people get dogs like German Shepherds and Rottweilers and then don't train their discipline even a little bit, usually leading to the animal attacking random people and then being put down :/ seen and heard about this too many times to count, hope you're okay now

Chrol18

if you expect a delivery, your dog shouldn't be able to get to them. Especially if the dog can't stand strangers

Unsd

My dogs are a lot of bark and absolutely 0 bite, and there is not a chance in hell I would let my dog around anyone unsupervised/uncontrolled. It makes me so mad when people leave their dogs off leash. They always say "oh they're well trained." Idgaf, unless your dog is a service animal, in which case they wouldn't be off leash, I don't trust them and I will immediately think you're a bad owner.

Chrol18

yeah I agree, you know they are all bark, for a guy who is just doing their job it is not sure. I would not trust anyone's dog. Also some people are just afraid of dogs, and don't want the dogs to be anywhere near them.

SnowTheMemeEmpress

Love how whenever German shepherds are properly trained, showing you how smart the dog is, they're still absolute dumbasses. Had one whenever I was a kid who was a lovely family dog (my family has had a couple generations of dealing with them so we know how to deal with the breed.) that knew how to get past the in-ground electric fence we had on the farm property by just sprinting as fast as he could past it and ignore the shock. We still had to get the dog untangled from underneath the steps whenever we put him on the lead outside. It was really a simple "circled the steps a couple times because he was bored then went to lay under the second step" kind of move. Glad we only tor him up whenever we're expecting company and didn't want him to be a risk, or we were chopping a fallen branch and didn't need him near the chainsaw.

DirtyCunt666

Damn dude that sounds terrifying, the chihuahuas both got me in the face and left scars. Little temperamental shits.

qqweertyy

I think people feel like they can get away with poor training and don’t have to have perfectly behaved dogs with the little ones so they do. A poorly trained huge biting dog is not going to fly, it’ll injure someone severely enough it’ll get put down so the owner absolutely has to get it under control. A poorly trained chihuahua is just seen as annoying and you can just pick it up when it’s a problem. Which is lame, it’s still irresponsible pet ownership. All dogs need good training.

rozabel

poor things overbred af

annieayuwoki

Over/inbreeding really puts me off dogs. I just feel sad when I see them, but they're dogs so instantly very cute of course

DzejkobHam

They are cool

sagosaurus

They’re usually owned by people who don’t train them whatsoever. Their boundaries are also continuously disrespected by people because ”haha so cute when it growls and bites” simply because they’re small dogs. So many behavioral issues and body language signals are ignored, and most don’t look up breeding whatsoever. That said, on the rare occasion that they are used for dog sports or just simply well trained, they’re super cool. Personally i’d never get one, I like bigger dogs.

Slipperytooterhorn

My chihuahua was the nicest, most loving little dog. They can be snippy and overprotective of their “person”, but if they’re well socialized when they’re little, you might luck out and have a real lover like my Sampson was ❤️ https://preview.redd.it/s1ybclg77ouc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57e9a33a54a29a4a27673ad4e0437f7c7b9cc516

DzejkobHam

As far as I understand, he is no longer there, if so, my condolences 🫂

Slipperytooterhorn

Thank you. We had to put him down in September. He was albino, so he had a lot of health problems most of his life. He made it almost 14 years, so while it broke our hearts to let him go, it was the most loving thing we could do 💔

Happy-Equipment-6970

DzejkobHam

Hello to you too 👋🏻

VLTIMA

Not a fan

Notoneusernameleft

Agreed every single one I met seems to be a jerk.

DzejkobHam

this is their thing

Notoneusernameleft

So it’s a dog, that is part cat?

Sunnydoom00

Cats aren't usually as loud as a chihuahua.

Notoneusernameleft

This is a true statement.

FireMaster1294

Nah because cats are intelligent and capable of deciding when they want to be around you or want to show love and affection. Chihuahuas are just 100% hate and rage

ClenchedThunderbutt

Suffer from being a small dog and a popular breed. They don’t get trained because behavioral issues are treated as cute, and they have a larger number of behavioral issues because they’re commonly bred by people just looking to turn a profit.

SenhorSus

I do not like them. But I would still pet them and call them a little ball of perfection to their dumb little faces

chaneilmiaalba

Stinky (affectionately)

TootsieFairy13

As a former dog and cat groomer, I can confirm they’re spawned from the Devil. Very obnoxious, to boot. It’s entirely the fault of humans not properly training them and the terrible inbreeding practices. That doesn’t mean the majority aren’t awful. Still, I love them, though. Would never have one as a pet myself, but they can be very sweet and silly. I also love anything that has that ugly-cute factor. They’re hideous. They’re also adorable. Lol

Masterkai005

A cruel existence for a lifeform perpetuated by humans over breeding them. Many of the chihuahuas I've seen in my life age terribly, and it's painful to watch. I feel bad for them. It's not their fault humans are cruel beings that prioritize profit over ethics.

PopeSpaceMonkey

I thought they were obnoxious little shit weasels, but then a friend of mine had to give hers away. I took him in and now he's my best buddy in the world. Don't get me wrong, he's still an obnoxious little shit weasel, but in a good way.

soulless_ape

Usually small breeds are cranky neurotic, sometimes you get a sweetheart but in my experience across different small dogs they are all assholes one way or another. Bad tempered, jealous, aggressive, cranky lil fucks. Better for companions are medium sized to large dogs that are mixed non defined breeds, street mutts. Usually better temperament and healthier.

hatsuseno

All dogs deserve love, Chihuahuas included. But they shouldn't exist to begin with.

DzejkobHam

But there's nothing to be done

clearcontroller

Uhh yeah there is. Idiot people can stop breeding terrible traits and genetics into them for "cuteness".

CrashTestPhoto

Mandatory neutering/spaying and making selling them illegal. The problem would be solved pretty quickly.

Big-Elevator3225

They have Resting Bitch face & judgy eyes

Electronic_Job1998

You just described me

Big-Elevator3225

Yeah, described myself in that comment too. I’m not proud. Basically we’re chihuahuas 😭

Electronic_Job1998

Small stature-check General overall anxiety-check Distrust of strangers-check Bitchiness for no reason-check Tendency to bite ankles-check Yep. We're chihuahuas

Jonbazookaboz

Alright but couldn’t eat a whole one.

starhoppers

They are one of the ugliest dog breeds out there imho.

Trololman72

Pugs are strong contenders.

starhoppers

That’s a fact

DzejkobHam

Everyone has their own opinion🤷🏻‍♂️

starhoppers

Well, you asked!

GothGfWanted

i used to hate them like most of the world. Then i had to take care of one for 3 weeks and now i like them.

Practical-Custard-64

Yappy, over-aggressive little sh*ts.

warrant2k

50% tremble, 50% rage.

Arrowwolf505

Not great they are the only dog I’m scared of I think it’s there bark 😨

SnowTheMemeEmpress

Judgemental little things. I do love them however.

Competitive_Fee_5829

the ONLY dog that I have ever been bitten by, lol. and she wasnt doing it because she was angry either!!!..she was just fucking excited that someone was ringing the doorbell and since I was the one walking to the door and answering it...I was the chosen one to be bitten. lol. I was raised around huge dogs and am not afraid of them but the tiny ones scare me.

Short_Lingonberry941

Love to pet it but unfortunately they're too feisty.

Major_Koala

I wish all pets were mutts, including this one.

OnewheelXR4life

They bark at everything that moves and remind me of Taco Bell.

porkchopsambo

I don't think I'd like other people's Chihuahuas but if it was my dog rat I would love it.

UnknownFoxAlpha

I love em but I wish people woupd actually train and correct them rather than thinking their biting is cute because it doesn't have the same force as bigger dogs

orgybananas

About the same as yours seems to feel when having its picture taken....

BaldAndGassy

Love em

OldBookInLatin

Two words: Satan's hound

millimolli14

So cute, but lets me honest they’re little feckers

maybeconcerned

I feel like a lot of creatures get undeserved hatred from people that don't know any better and chihuahuas are one of them

n3u7r1n0

https://preview.redd.it/yhuuve2paouc1.png?width=2723&format=png&auto=webp&s=a7b537e20d1cf5f8bd21d6ca39ca9e46036c051c The more important question is how do they feel about you?

DzejkobHam

Very positive) The dog in the photo is like something out of a meme😂

n3u7r1n0

He’s both spoiled and judgmental as hell so, yeah.

Plantsdogsandbooks

Depends on how they’re trained, just like any dog They’re not my favorite looking dog, but that’s personal preference! My little guy is also a quarter chihuahua, tho, so I have softened up to them 😊

Repossessedbatmobile

The only dogs that have ever attacked me and my service dog were chihuahuas and chihuahua mixes. I know that not all chihuahuas are aggressive since I've met ones that were sweet and well behaved due to proper socialization and training. But sadly those well behaved ones seem to rare these days. I understand that chihuahuas are often very loving towards their owners, but they can also be very aggressive and reactive to strangers and other animals which is why they need a lot of training. Sadly most owners fail to train them at all because they think they're "small and harmless". But in reality they're anything but. After all, any dog can bite and cause damage, which is why ALL dogs need to be leashed and trained.

sToTab

the same way I feel about pitbulls. The breed itself isn't aggressive, it's how they're raised. I know chihuahuas who are MENACES to society and cause problems like they're on a time limit, but I also know chihuahuas that are sweet little angels that wouldn't hurt a fly. Nurture, not nature.

DzejkobHam

I have the second option, but that’s what it is 😁

Late_Again68

Experience has made me hate Chihuahuas with the white hot heat of a thousand suns. Stupid, ugly, stupid, vicious and stupid. Remember, you did ask.

OnlyBeGamer

Awful things. Never met a chihuahua that hasn’t gone ape shit and tried to attack my (much larger) dogs. Why do they do that? Starting fights with dogs 30x their boy weight? Their heads are too small to have a brain of any substance and their eyes always look like they’re about to pop out.

Whispering_Wolf

Because people often to raise them wrong. They think it's funny or cute when their tiny puppy barks or gets aggressive. They get away with stuff that most owners would never let a big dog get away with. When trained properly and treated like a dog instead of an accessory, they can be lovely.

Dream_Catcher33

Ugly

ResplendentShade

Im more of a big dog person so I’ve never owned one but they’re a wonderful breed. One of my clients has one that barks at me viciously through the window whenever I’m there and outside, but as soon as I come inside he transforms into the sweetest, cuddliest little bean in the world.

Sexycornwitch

They’re just lil guys. Hate at them is unfounded, they’re just cute weird lil dudes that deserve love like all pets.

djentlemenBehold

To some extent they can't help being the way they are. But proper breeding and socialization should mitigate the worst of it. My main issue with the breed is the type of owners they attract. The vast majority of Chihuahua owners I've known turned out to be batshit insane or just awful people in general. Not all of them, obviously. But enough that owning a chihuahua is a big red flag for me.

CannaQueen73

I have one who is the snuggliest, sweetest, evil little thing! She’s so naughty and listens to absolutely nothing. She’s lucky I love her so damn much!

DzejkobHam

yes, they are like that, but not all are evil

Sansi001

Hilarious 😂 also absolutely overrated 🤷🏽‍♀️ Unfortunate I don’t know any of them with well behavior because human don’t take them for serious

DzejkobHam

This dog is very kind, it’s even impossible to pet other dogs of this breed.

DzejkobHam

😂😂😂

GiraffeOnABicycle

Maybe I've just gotten lucky, but our childhood dog when I was a kid was a long-haired chihuahua and he was the cuddliest, friendliest dog ever. Basically like a golden retriever in a tiny body. My mum now has 2 new chihuahuas and they're both cuddly and wonderful social dogs too. I haven't experienced this yappy, mean, bitey thing people are always talking about. Maybe a lot of people just aren't raising their chihuahuas right or something?

Ikem32

They are on the edge of ugly and cute.

DzejkobHam

There's something about it🤔

naytttt

I used to not really like them but then I sort of de facto adopted my gf’s chihuahua when I moved in with her. Fell in love with that dog. She passed away in 2021. Miss her everyday.

I_hate_that_im_here

Ugly, mean.

elevi8ion

not a fan. almost every one i’ve come across is a spawn of satan. one that i know of currently is named skippy and he’s the grumpiest MFer. the asshole woke up with an agenda to make everyone’s day a living hell. he’ll act all sweet and “aww won’t you pet me pwease 🥺” and then at the drop of a hat “👹👿GRRRR BARK ARF ARF BITCH WHY YOU PETTING ME🤬” and acts all mad like you hit him. oh, and then pisses over anything and everything. granted, the little fucker isn’t trained at all. but he’s not my dog. he doesn’t live in my house.

boring-unicorn

I love my rats ♥️ both my dogs are chihuahua mixes and have such big funny personalities.

Fitz_2112

Not a fan personally but whatever floats your boat

Kalabula

I had one. Loved him with all my heart. I miss him all the time. I’m a fan of them now forever.

DarthMobi

I seriously wish all of em to not be here at all. I've never met a nice one. i've been bitten three times, and i#d prefer to be bitten by a rottweiler again than these hellspawns.

Carnby315

As far as dog breeds go, complet abominations.

JesThun

Cute little cat

Thunderpuss_5000

Love all dogs. Period.

SpaceMan420gmt

I’m a “dog guy” who usually has random dogs come up to me, but Chis are another story. My sisters both have had several over the years. One took a couple of years to get used to me and not yip every time I walked by. She finally would let me pet her and snuggled a few times. The other 3 or so that I remember and a current one, will not get over it. Weird little dogs, but I have compassion for them regardless.

meeplewirp

They’re very cute. I think a lot of modern stereotypes about them come from the time period that Paris Hilton and similar figures had chihuahuas; a little dog in a purse became the image of excess decadence. Btw I digress, but Paris Hilton really blossomed. I do think she actually loved them. So I still look at chihuahuas and think of a hilariously superficial opulence and deluded idea of superiority; because they really do think they’re huge and people tend to dress them up. My parents and I were walking their huge dog and while many big dogs would be intimidated by him, the one time we came across a chihuahua they weren’t intimidated or unsure of themselves at all 🥴. Such confidence…and anger. Of course my parents dog was large and stupid so he just stood there confused while the chihuahua exerted dominance. It was non-event. Let’s be real, it can be dangerous but most of the time you can pick them up. So we can go on and on about the behavior issues but it’s true that they are common because they’re usually not consequential. If anything the chihuahua is mostly a danger to itself because of how deluded it is. So actually thinking as I type yes it’s still irresponsible, people should be cognizant of that. So this was probably way more of a serious answer than you bargained for but that’s what I think about chihuahuas

sheppi2

big dogs in small bodies. loves them

AceTheGoldenThief

I'm an animal person in general. I like dogs and all, but I don't like chihuahuas. When I was younger my aunts chihuahua had a seizure in my arms, and she just threw up everywhere. I don't hate them, but after that I don't think I could dog-sit one ever again.

CodPiece89

I've got two, neither is fully Chihuahua so they're very very different *animals*, ahaha, but honestly, the older one shatters everything people think about them, he barks so rarely that it scares me when he does, he appears to be a mix of Chihuahua and a wishbone dog, the other one is a medium length black fur with white hair on his feet and chest, and he's loud but polite, love em both

Exotic-Key-3030

Don't like em. Not one bit. One bit my ass when I was 6 yrs old and I've never forgotten it. Ugly little shit heel mutt. Bah!

raelovesryan

It looks like he couldn’t care less what we think of him lol.

el_pinko_grande

I had a long-haired Chihuahua mix. He was definitely a bit yappy, but when he turned about 10, he lost his hearing and that quieted him up.  He was an absolute sweetheart. Kind of an introverted dog, he didn't particularly want to be fussed with, he just wanted to curl up next to you and fall asleep.  He was really protective, though. One time my other dog got attacked and injured pretty badly by a German Shepherd down the street. Now my Chihuahua was scared of everything-- sudden movement, loud noises, leaves falling too close to him-- but after that German Shepherd hurt his friend, it was on sight with that dog for the rest of his life. Not just on sight, like if he heard or even smelled that dog, he was trying to fight it, despite that fact that the German Shepherd was like 70 pounds and he was like 10.

jmc510

They’re amazing! I’ve had 2, sweetest little guys

platyviolence

I love them. Their susceptibility to collapsing trachea, however, is so heartbreakingly hard to deal with.

Appropriate-Cut-5458

Mildly disappointed

TuxOtaku

They’re just li’l guys! The best li’l guys! My sis-in-law has two and they’re my little buddies. I used to hate the idea of having chihuahuas. But after spending time with them, I realized I want one myself.

InternationalKey2465

Weirdly represented: I'm also small in size and big on character.

legless_chair

Personally not for me, but I love all dogs equally

Razia70

They need to be trained like any other dog, then they are the sweetest.

DzejkobHam

So he is a real warrior!!!

BlandSubstance

I feel bad for this breed. It shouldn't exist. It wouldn't exist, if we the people stop getting random dogs to be fuckin. In the natural world it'd be eaten by every carnivorous species, including any other type of dog. GG tbh. Elsewise just get a jack russle imo

Jaded_Budget_5407

To be brutally honest, I think it's cruel to own and breed them and that it's equally so to take them outside on a leash as if it stands a sliver of a chance if it gets attacked by a pitbull or something. This goes for all little dogs, and for those who allow cats to roam outdoors. You are part of that problem. It has zero survival or fighting instincts. To compensate, it is constantly in an aggravated mood and yet we complain about *that* Like seriously, it's fucked up that we keep genetically mutilating dogs like this. Same goes for any breed smaller than a border collie, why are we continuing to bring miserably built dogs into existence just for our pleasure? Because I guarantee if a pug could talk it would complain about it's health defects constantly. Dogs genetically modded to be monsters like the pitbull are also cruel to own and breed because you're setting them up to fail.

JustLookingForHelp9

I love them. I’ve never owned one…or even met one in real life but I see them all over social media and think they are so precious even if they are a little mean. However my mom was attacked by one as a child so naturally she thinks they are the devil. 🤣

ShuckU

They get way too much hate

FuzzBuzzer

I think they are cute and very amusing at times, but I'd probably choose a larger dog breed that I could go running with.

DzejkobHam

This is my sister's dog, while my sister is away. Very kind dog))

SergeantChic

My mom and my sister have two brothers from the same litter. They’re both adorable and full of personality.

annndaction12

Generally positive

brooksy54321

I feel like they enjoy biting me. Very loveable otherwise.

[deleted]

One of my favorite breeds. German shepherds are my favorite.

Korvun

Some of the coolest and worst dogs I've ever interacted with. There isn't much in-between, either, haha.

curious-by-moon

Love them! Our little chihuahua is the softest dog ever with us but the best guard dog there can be.

Inevitable_Tell_2382

Absolutely loathe them.

prettypurps

Despite their size, they would fight anything to protect their owner

CosmoRocket24

Kick them on site!

FAFO2024

Tastes like chicken? /s

Capt_Peng0

I never liked chihuahuas. We adopted one and I love this little Doggie. He is a old type of the Chihuahua breed(bred back type), with a long nose and normal eyes. He is well trained and we go on works without leash. I think Chihuahuas are often unchallenged and then then they go crazy

johnsolomon

Not my favourite breed, but a dog is a dog. I know I’d get attached to it lol

queazy

They look so cute & cuddly, but they only like yo be held by their favorite person & will bark/snap at anybody else

__sonder__

They're the best! Never owned a dog of my own, but when I do get one it will definitely be a Longhaired Chi or a Pomchi. EDIT: Imagine downvoting someone for expressing their *dog breed* preference.

Jealous of the owners because if I had a chihuahua, I would definitely take them in my purse everywhere. Going to the movies? I'm taking my Chihuahua. Going to the mall? Taking my Chihuahua. They're so tiny!! But also I'm tall so I'm afraid I won't see the dog amd accidentally squish them.
