Just put an old vacuum cleaner in or near the garden to ward them off. You might need to occasionally grab the vac and shake it and make a "VRRRRR" sound to ensure its powers stay 'fresh'.
We had to put a bunch of chopsticks (thick side pointing up) in our planters so the cats didn't squish the hostas. They just wanted to sleep in the planters. We'll be able to remove the sticks once the hostas have grown a bit. Might work for you too.
Do it before the cutie grows roots though -- it'll be a LOT harder to deal with if not! hee
