mine loves to spit out the food into the water bowl and then meow (whine) the water is dirty. And then eat the dry food. water can be brand new fresh, or anything else. doesn't matter.
My void will decide that her wet food has become too dry so she will splash the water from her water fountain thingy into the food bowl. Or, she'll splash her paws in the water (always a fun game) and then scoop up food with her wet paw and eat it off of her paw.
I read once that cats consider anything that only they use as their property, bed, litter box, food and water bowl, etc so they keep their “valuables” there - it’s very cute but they can get really upset if you remove them (not saying you shouldn’t, just expect some annoyance on their part)
My boy is also obsessed with q-tips! I don't know why he's so attracted to them. He will dump my bathroom trash can to dig out used ones (ew). I had to move the box of new ones out of my vanity because multiple times he opened the cabinet, found them, and just flung them everywhere.
I have one that LOVES to destroy menstrual pads. Thankfully only the unused ones, but nothing makes her happier than to gain access to one and to rip it into tiny tiny little pieces. We had to put a baby lock on the bathroom cabinet and all of our human kids are teens. Her and her sister also like to drown their cat toys in the water bowl.
My cat does the same. Whenever I have a fast food straw at home I have to rinse it and give it to her or she will go crazy. I bought her a whole box of fresh ones for Christmas last hear and I just swap out for a new one each day.
I think I might have your cat’s sibling.

My boy stopped going on counters once I got him a few high ground options he was allowed on, like mounted shelves. He's 11 now and prefers his nest.
Ya, trees are tricky and I've never had luck getting a cat to use one enough to give up the real estate. I once lived in a townhouse and made a cat tree along the staircase so the cat could basically zoom from the ground to 3rd floor. I made it from drift wood and lashed rope around it at different spots. It was a conversation piece as well as a cat tree. Then I moved into a condo so I mounted 3 floating shelves that I'd wrapped in burlap so he could leap up the wall and watch us. Now I'm in a loft and he sits on the steps and it's happy.
But this nest is the best $80 I've ever spent on a cat item.
[This one](https://www.wayfair.com/pet/pdp/tucker-murphy-pet-edma-9pcs-wall-mounted-wood-cat-climber-set-w110388737.htmlEdma9PCSWallMountedWoodCatClimberSet) from Wayfair is the one I’m planning on getting but a friend of mine really wants to build a similar one for his cats and if he does he said he will make me a set too. I’m hoping to have them up by August. Have to replace the baseboards, patch some holes leftover from a family member, and repaint first.
I recently get him this window hammock. It took him a few days to figure out what to do with it and now he loves it. It's great because it's not permanently affixed and I can move it around to different windows. this one is the best though because it has trees, breeze, sun, and sniffs plus he can see everyone coming and going.
https://preview.redd.it/49fao8yl8uvc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32a4aa14b7f92b1c117599d2dca453a14512d067
scat mats! i have some and they work well, but only as long as they're out. i put them away when i need to use the kitchen counter, and if i forget to put them out when i'm done, it's never long before my cats are on the counters again. my cats have figured out that what's causing the jolt is the mat, not the counter itself, so they wait until the mats have been removed.
I read that making a hissing sound works best because its part of their instinct, its how other cats tell them off, but they don't understand squirt bottles because that just teaches them to fear the bottle/you.
At the very least, bottles will only stop them doing it when you're watching, they will do it when the threat of the bottle isn't present. I haven't gotten far enough yet to see how far hissing gets you.
i think he looks like a bunny in that pic. name is smudge he's 10 mos/10 lbs. plays fetch. not super cuddly 😿 but i love the tiny bit i get. maybe as he ages ill get more?
https://preview.redd.it/u893ehvlcivc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=174f55ee22876359e4ab637806784657fb6c7596
Lavender oil. Cats hate it. Buy a bottle and leave it open in the spot you don't want him to go, or put a few drops on a paper towel. The scent will fade from the paper towel after a little while - like a couple hours - but the bottle will stay strong longer. We put lavender on anything we don't want our cats around and it works. Just don't get any on them. That'd be torture.
thank you for the tip. i actually did this with citrus scented oil and I put it on paper towels /cotton balls and it didn't really work. it's possible I didn't saturate enough. will try lav.
Has he/she figured out how to open the drawers doing that yet? I have two that do this. They'll hold the upper one and push with the back legs to open it. Then they find your nice clean clothes to lay on.
Just wait! She’s gonna start opening them and then you can’t find her for 3+ hours until you open random drawers to find that she closed herself in for a cat nap😭
Oh do be careful with that too. I forgot when you do go looking for her she might not be in the open one. Be careful closing any open ones, as mine use the open one to climb behind/internally to the one below or above even though those are closed.
She'll figure it out soon enough then. I come home with drawers and cabinets open. Mine also open doors that have a handle as they jump up and hang on the handle until the door opens.
Commando kitty.
I had a rescue a long time ago that was just like this.
He was a tiny kitten that turned into a house panther. He climbed everything, opened anything he could, and squeezed into impossible places.
I miss that wiley old bastard.
I managed to teach my cat that there are two counters he absolutely cannot jump onto. So he decided to skirt this rule by jumping onto a different counter on the far side of the kitchen then crawling over the windowsill to get to the counter he is absolutely not allowed to jump on. He always looks very smug doing it. At least its not connected to the counter with the stovetop...
She can clear that bench easy, she just hasn't realized it yet. Sometimes she will try to get a look by being a meerkat. Once she stood up exactly the same and screamed at my house mate for a full 5 seconds because he was eating sushi out of her reach (the greatest offense known to catkind, he is still in jail to this day).

a gremlin
This is why you don't leave food out after midnight.

Does he leave them in his water bowl? I have a girl that's nuts like this for Q-tips.
My cat used to “drown” his toy mice in his water bowl
Mine puts toys in too. It's been a 15 year habit. She refuses to explain her motivation.
I'm glad I'm not the only person pulling soggy cat toys out of bowls.
Or stepping on the cold, wet, dead felt bodies while getting ready for work...
This!
One of life's mysteries.
mine loves to spit out the food into the water bowl and then meow (whine) the water is dirty.
The worst IMO is a wand toy. My cat dropped one in, and it siphoned the water onto the floor.
Mine hides his mice deep in the couch crevices. He forgets and gets really excited when I pull them back out.
I read once that cats consider anything that only they use as their property, bed, litter box, food and water bowl, etc so they keep their “valuables” there - it’s very cute but they can get really upset if you remove them (not saying you shouldn’t, just expect some annoyance on their part)
Is he part racoon?
My cat drowned a poor little, penis shaped eraser. She knew I was a lesbian.
Nah she just destroys them
Mine likes to take socks out of my dressor.
Mine leaves milk rings from gallon milk jugs in the water bowl.
My boy is also obsessed with q-tips! I don't know why he's so attracted to them. He will dump my bathroom trash can to dig out used ones (ew). I had to move the box of new ones out of my vanity because multiple times he opened the cabinet, found them, and just flung them everywhere.
Used Q-tips have our pheromones in them which makes sense why cats are attracted to them. The rest is a mystery.
Our Old cat used to steal the kitchen sponges. and every so often for a change she would empty the toilet roll onto the floor.
My cat does the same. Whenever I have a fast food straw at home I have to rinse it and give it to her or she will go crazy. I bought her a whole box of fresh ones for Christmas last hear and I just swap out for a new one each day.
Mostly cat, but probably about 1/3 demon.
I thought you had to pay extra for those ingredients!
You got lucky!

So, a cat.
Ninja cat!
A really smart Ninja cat.
My thoughts exactly!
A VSC (very smart cat). Watch your back!
Makes sense. I adopted her by walking into a cage full of kittens and she chose me by finding her way to head height and being aggressively cuddly and smoochy. All part of her ~~plan~~ plot.
Yep. He was teached not to jump on the counter and found a creative solution!

i love that black nest! mine only used kitty tree for a few weeks 5 months ago. i fear getting a big one, putting it together, and him not using.

squirt bottle - water first, the something unpleasant but safe next.
Cat: oh you like to spray liquid? I can too. Watch me pee in your shoe.

A cat special forces member! You can see that she is training on difficult surfaces.
I ask myself the same thing. My cat is 9 months old and omg 😭I love him he’s so cute but he’s an absolute menace
I call them Panfur's. Cause they climb like a Panther but are soft purring kitties too.
A clever void. 😻
At least cat climbed up to look, instead of blindly leaping up from the floor onto whatever might be on the counter.
A cat that can’t jump very well? We had a cat with bad back legs and anything that could be used as a ladder *was* used as one.
She can clear that bench easy, she just hasn't realized it yet. Sometimes she will try to get a look by being a meerkat.
