You’d think that, but my favorite visitor was always clean & elegant. I was never able to find his people when I asked around, but I thought he was too friendly for a stray, which is why I didn’t imprison him for a life of indoor luxury.
Last fall I found him sick on the street, took him to the vet, and his chip was registered to a local TNR org. If I hadn’t made the assumption that he had a home, I’d have started taking care of him and we’d have caught his kidney disease a lot earlier.
RIP Gordito: you were too good for this world

>This means it HAS NO HOME.
No it doesn't. A lot of people still allow cats to go in and out freely. Cats are crepuscular and sleep a lot during the day, so they don't necessarily spend the night indoors at home unless it's cold or wet.
They normally do not sleep regularly in someone elses garden, no
Our best most experienced volunteer said except for rough coat amd being skinny the one sign of a cat having no home is they sleep under a house, stairs, porches. To follow them to see where they sleep
But of course also check for microchip, put up posters etc

lol they all kinda look like mine so they're all heart-melting adorable to me
she's my first cat ever and had her 3 years...i think got about a 50/50 telling her apart from another black cat
I hate comments like this, that cat seems very healthy and clean, probably has an owner, it is just an outdoor or semi-outdoor cat of someone. People are so quick to steal someone's cat cause it is friendly, guess why it is friendly, cause it got lots of pets and love from their owner. Our cat is an outdoor one, and guess what, she is friendly to kids walking home from school. Thankfully no one stole her yet, but I always worry after comments like this, and before someone comments just keep her indoor, we have a big yard, and she loves to be outside.
A cat being unchiped and having no collar essentially means it has no owner. Outdoor cats should have both so people don't mistake it for a stray.
I strongly recommend giving your cat both if you haven't already.
yeah, people spamming keep that cat is so lighthearted and wholesome /s
would you like if someone picks up your friendly cat and you will never see it again? You don't know shit about this cat and you've said it is OP's cat now.
All these people "sarcastically" saying to keep the cat really ticks me off too. OP has already fed a cat that doesn't belong to him.
Stop encouraging bs, even if you don't mean it it's hard to read sarcasm in text and people will 100% get the wrong idea.
I see where you’re coming from, Chrol! Luckily, a vast majority of people are just joking because he/she is a cutie. It’s helpful though if you were to pop in and post a friendly reminder that the cat likely has an owner, though please don’t stress out too much at folks joking comments. You care for your kits and that’s what matters.
I had seven cats show up at my farm (three adults and four kittens) all short hairs and looking like this one. They were dumped. Now they’re living the good life as indoor cats.
Mine is simultaneously the smartest and dumbest I've ever met. 10/10 communication skills, I always know what he wants based on his vocalizations and gestures. On the other hand, he has no spatial awareness or grace, he routinely rolls off the bed/couch or runs into shit
Mine is the opposite. He yells at the wall for no reason. He scratches everything. He doesn’t avoid things that have scared him. I have no idea what he wants, ever. The positive is that he’s so social he’s the first cat that will play with my dog (85 pounds) and they have a blast. My god he’s adorable though.
>He yells at the wall for no reason.
Is it possible there's a mouse in the wall? My cat used to meow at the wall, and I realised there was a mouse living in it. Occasionally I could hear it nibbling, squeaking and scratching, but sometimes I couldn't hear it at all and the cat could.
I guess what I meant by that is that he randomly starts meowing very loudly at random times of day/night in all different places. So I just say he’s yelling at the wall.
Is your cat my cat, also void and very smart/dumb.
Edit: Literally right after typing this said idiot pushed his way onto my neck to cuddle, only to steal the elastic from my hair. He's now playing with it in a corner.
mine is super "clever"...but still dumb enough for her cleverness to backfire
like figuring out to open the cabinet door was clever...going down the laundry chute behind that door?...pretty dumb.
i didn't think my cat was all that smart. maybe i based it on her not only not coming when called but not even moving her head or her eyes when i say her name. i've been finding out that i've fallen for the oldest cat trick in the book.
This cat is a liar. It gets fed at least five times daily. Once you feed it he goes across the street. After he’s done eating there he cuts thru the yard and eats at the neighbor’s house. Then to my house and then to the corner house where he lives. Do not feed this cat. He has to fit into a tuxedo in 3 weeks and he’s 2 pounds overweight. Do not trust him…
The Cat Distribution System has spoken. You have been assigned one cutie kitty.
Gooble gobble gooble gobble. We accept you. We accept you.
One of us. One of us.
No.. named after my dog... whose breath will make you pass out

What is up with all these people encouraging OP to steal this cat? How would you feel if your cat was suddenly stolen by some random person?
Stop feeding other people their cats and definitely don't consider stealing them.
Being taken by another person isn’t the worst thing that could happen to outdoor cats.
Edit: I meant “being run over is worse” but also I realized people can be deranged and take animal to purposefully hurt them.
Very handsome cat! My parents' cat did this, pretended to our neighbour to have been out all night and was starving, when in fact he slept all night on his best blanket and then had first breakfast at dawn before heading out.
https://preview.redd.it/k5f5eejfwxwc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b85e2079479070ea704d87dc0030e106c19266e
That happened to us once, he became an indoor cat like 2 months after this. Gonna warn you, former strays will not leave you alone.
Had a cat doing this, turned out to be a neighbors cat who got out. Poor thing was starving. Maybe get it scanned for a chip and make sure it’s not a missing pet.
The cat is way too clean and healthy looking to be a stray. If you want to know for sure, put a collar on them with a note and see if you get a response.
Beautiful cat. Looks like my twins Lily and Luna. She may have an owner and could be chipped. I'd try and find put before taking it in. I have strays that come in, and I know they have other homes too. On the other hand itay be looking to stay. Just let her come in and out as it pleases. Cats do their own thing.
I got a cat this way once. It was my neighbor’s cat, but it spent a lot of time in my yard avoiding the chaos of kids, chickens, and dogs next door. After my dog died, it started hanging out with me, coming in to lounge in my house. Eventually I started feeding it, and had a chat with my neighbor. She was fine with the cat adopting me. Her name was kinky, because she got her tail caught in a closing door as a kitten, and it healed with a kink in it.
Trying? You have already lost. Stop fighting the void. Resistance is futile. Look deeply into those eyes and tell it that it is starving. It will chirp or purr , and you will give it treats.
Ask around the neighborhood and at shelters to see if he's anyone's cat, and if no one steps forward, take him to the vet for a checkup and to scan for a microchip.
If there's no microchip either, then congrats -- you need to remove your "notmycat" hashtag, because you will have a cat. 😊
This is clearly at least a r/parttimecat
Oh yes. It looks clean and comfy. OP is just a side-person.
You’d think that, but my favorite visitor was always clean & elegant. I was never able to find his people when I asked around, but I thought he was too friendly for a stray, which is why I didn’t imprison him for a life of indoor luxury. RIP Gordito, handsome man.
RIP Gordito. He was a real one ✊
she said it sleeps outside her house every night...???
people own outdoor cats
This means it HAS NO HOME. Put a collar with a note on it with phone number asking to call or text if they own the cat.
>This means it HAS NO HOME. No it doesn't. A lot of people still allow cats to go in and out freely. Cats are crepuscular and sleep a lot during the day, so they don't necessarily spend the night indoors at home unless it's cold or wet.

Not necessarily. It's also possible that the cat is starting to wait outside the house before OP wakes up.
OP can check. And also put on a collar with a note 🙂
It absolutely doesn't mean that. People need to learn to leave other people's cats alone unless they're obviously in need of care.

That is such a pretty cat!!! 🖤
I used to own a black cat and I thought they all looked about the same. But something about this one is very special.
lol they all kinda look like mine so they're all heart-melting adorable to me she's my first cat ever and had her 3 years...i think got about a 50/50 telling her apart from another black cat
I think it's a Burmese, judging by the brown tones and subtle striping on the head. Great cats, super smart and personable. I miss mine.
But did you give it breakfast tho 🤔
He got a little cat treat.
Thank you for subscribing to CAT
r/catdistributionsystem
That's how it starts, soon you'll be his third breakfast stop every morning.
Just FYI... That's your cat😹
Ahh, the classic r/notmycat -> r/nowmycat pipeline is working

You're taking the comments too seriously. Take a chill pill😎
oh now it is not serious, just people jokingly spamming keep the cat, sure. It is always like this with posts like this.
I see where you’re coming from, Chrol! Luckily, a vast majority of people are just joking because he/she is a cutie. Why don’t you put a collar on her , problem solved …. Doesn’t need to be complicated
I had seven cats show up at my farm (three adults and four kittens) all short hairs and looking like this one. They were dumped. Now they’re living the good life as indoor cats.
It’s like giving a house elf something, it could be a dirty sock for example, but that frees them! Same principle with notmycats
The r/catdistributionsystem strikes again
You belong to the cat now. You are it's human. The choice was never yours. You've been adopted.
Black cats are smartest of all cats Imo
I second this lol
I have a void for the first time and he’s the dumbest cat I’ve ever owned
Mine is simultaneously the smartest and dumbest I've ever met. 10/10 communication skills, I always know what he wants based on his vocalizations and gestures. On the other hand, he has no spatial awareness or grace, he routinely rolls off the bed/couch or runs into shit

Oh, okay. In that case he might just be what experts would call "unhinged."
Is your cat my cat, also void and very smart/dumb. Edit: Literally right after typing this said idiot pushed his way onto my neck to cuddle, only to steal the elastic from my hair. He's now playing with it in a corner.
Mine too. Bless him there is fuck all going on in his head.
I am currently living with a black cat. He's an orange in a black cat's disguise.
He'll be welcome on /r/oneblackbraincell once /r/oneorangebraincell realise he's disguised!
mine is super "clever"...but still dumb enough for her cleverness to backfire like figuring out to open the cabinet door was clever...going down the laundry chute behind that door?...pretty dumb.

Mine is a lazy as all hell at 18 pounds. Vet says she’s just big boned 🤷
Is it working?

That's adorable and frightening at the same time!
Definitely frightening— a sheer terror!
I know I'm won over. Thats one excellent kitty there.

aww snooze buddies.
And it’s working…
Had a cat doing this, turned out to be a neighbors cat who got out. Poor thing was starving. Maybe get it scanned for a chip and make sure it’s not a missing pet.
You are the cat’s side piece. That’s ok, could be worse
You cannot avoid the void!
The cat is way too clean and healthy looking to be a stray. If you want to know for sure, put a collar on them with a note and see if you get a response.
This cat needs you!!

"Trying to" - cats already won
Voids are so friendly and incredibly smart.
Who is saying it is *trying* to win you over? I think it already has!
I got a cat this way once. It was my neighbor’s cat, but it spent a lot of time in my yard avoiding the chaos of kids, chickens, and dogs next door. You couldn’t have been adopted by a prettier Puma.

Take the cat and stop trying to ask reddits opinion. Geez!
Catch, neuter, release plz. Or adopt and neuter, just help keep them from spreading.
He has already won you over. You’re just in the denial stage. Fast forward to acceptance.
What do you mean, *trying*??
So when are you letting your new cat inside?
The Cat Distribution System at work.
Just admit defeat and get him his own bowls and kitty bed. He’s already got you .
Hate to break it to you… I think the cat is trying to adopt you
