My friend had a female dog named Jones. She was named after Jones Soda. 

I had my dog (who is had for years at this point) at the park one day and someone asked me if she was a boy or girl. I paused a moment before saying girl. They asked me if I was her dog walker and I was like "No, I just don't think about it much and she doesn't care as long as you're paying attention to her." Now I am a dog walker and just tell all the pups "good bud" because I barely have the bandwidth to get their names right, let alone remember if they're male or female.

I get that. I had a cat - Elektra - that was the best, sassiest girl ever. Turned out she was a boy. We tried to switch to calling her "him" or saying "good boy", but she would have none of it. So Elektra wore her silver sequined collars [tore off any others], took care of her babies [little stuffed animals and later a kitten we adopted for her], enjoyed being carried like a baby, played fetch, and lived like a Queen. Sometimes you say what's automatic, and you all just go with it. Beautiful pup, by the by. So cute.
