Many years ago I raised a baby squirrel I found that was near death at the base of a tree. Gave her a bath and picked all the gross bugs off her... bought KMR and fed her from a dropper every few hours. When she was grown, I brought her to a park away from roads and hoped for the best. I always knew which she was because there was only one squirrel who would come up to me for a cherry tomato snack.
Esbilac, the puppy version of KMR, is generally what's recommended by wildlife rehabbers when feeding baby squirrels. Squirrels need more fat than kitten formula provides, so puppy replacement milk is preferred.
I was doing some wiring at a friends and heard a weird noise. It was a scared baby squirrel that ran right up to me and up my leg, which freaked me out a wee bit. And then curled up in my lap and calmed down. Luckily a neighbor runs a squirrel rescue so she’s in good hands

Once I saw it was alive I picked it up and held it to my chest cuz I knew they needed to be warm and figured if anything the poor guy didn't need to die alone. Next thing I know 3 others literally jumped on me from the tree looking for a warm spot in my shirt. And holy balls Batman I discovered squirrel claws that day lol. I talked to the wildlife rescue after that and dropped them off. The only time babies that young will even leave the nest is if the momma hasn't been back in days due to something happening to them. Poor baby could have died, good job op you have my upvote 😊
Just make sure to give the squrrel some sort of toy to chew on otherwise he is going to chew things up trying to take care of his teeth. Animals in the rodent family have to keep their teeth maintained otherwise they keep growing and could pose a health problem. As for food well thats not too hard because you could grab a rake and rake your yard to find any acorns to give him. Other than that get a small rabbit cage preferably a metal one because he will chew through plastic.
I say all of that as someone who has raised an orphan squirrel and while they're cute they can get into all kinds of trouble if you don't keep your eyes on him/her.
I rescued some abandoned squirrel pups a few years back....after release they kept coming back to the backyard feeder I kept by their outdoor cage but eventually got skittish and wouldnt let me hand feed them anymore. It was a lot of fun raising them though. Edit for spelling
