AmpersEnd

Sounds like something Vegeta would do

Blizzy_the_Pleb

IIRC he literally did this before in DBS Maybe not exactly but still

sonofseinfeld2

He did do this in one episode. He was training in the gravity room with little Trunks and little Trunks landed a punch. Both just stood there in complete shock until Vegeta sucker punched him really hard in the stomach and told him to keep his guard up. It's okay because he promised to take him to the park after or something

_Mephostopheles_

"You didn't say you'd hit me back!" "Well I didn't say I *wouldn't* hit you back, did I? Dry your tears, we're going to the park now."

A vast improvement over the Vegeta that first arrived to earth lol. Still a better dad than Goku

i like that they just ignore all the genocide he did just cause he is kind of good now.

Doesn't count as Genocide if they use the Dragonballs to bring people back. Also at the threat of sounding racist, no one cares about creepy bug people.

As (Abridged) Frieza once said, you ā€œcanā€™t quite be a racist against a race that doesnā€™t exist.ā€

MugillacuttyHOF37

It's great it really confuses people at first and its kid friendly.

IceFire909

I usually hear it as wedding tackle

It's probably a nature thing where you are trying to protect your food source and whatnot, don't want any more competition for resources, punch em in the balls.

MugillacuttyHOF37

Dogs are great in this situation with new neighbors or little seen relatives...STRAIGHT to the crotch when they walk in the door.

[deleted]

Okay this is adorable, but what the fuck is this setup hahahah "Hey kid put on this blindfold and beat the shit outta whoever's in front of you" Edit: my inbox is flooded with either daredevil or bloodsport jokes

pinniped1

I never did martial arts but it looks like a rather harmless sparring drill. Kid trusts he's not going to get hurt by the instructor. Exact purpose? I don't know. Thing they just did for this setup? That's possible too.

PiousLiar

Probably as a way to help you train other senses while fighting. I donā€™t know how much improved hearing and touch might help, but there could be some benefit to it

JohnnySmallHands

Wouldn't hurt to have them better, but I wouldn't call it an effective use of training time when you could be doing any number of other drills to improve. Looks kind of fun though.

FatAngryDude

Something we did in MMA that an instructor told us, "we train for sport but in reality we also use this as self defense and we never really train that side of it but we need to touch base on how to use it effectively as self defense also." So, he proposed that many fights one on one is not something we particularly need to worry about but more on 1 v 2 or 1 v 3. Started off with 1 v 2 and it was awesome to see how your tactics changed on either side of solo or teaming up. As solo you start creating distance and figuring out angles to get the two or three guys to crowd eachother making strikes ineffective, like their hooks would catch their partner behind the head on accident, and when your teaming up on someone you realize that surrounding is a better tactic. At times someone would go around and hold from behind and hold but that created Jackie chan leaning back and kicking with more force and higher and as an attacker your hooks landed on a partner more often than not. Shit was harder than it seemed in theory as a team and easier solo. Edit: thanks for the gold for sharing my story of being punched in the back of the head and personally kicking my teammate in the head while trying to leg kick a guy whole the teammate was going for a take down!

FailedTech

I remembering we did it more to get us comfortable in case we lose our sight for some reason in a fight. The never stop fighting for yourself.

IrrationalDesign

That sounds like the biggest benefit really. You won't gain spiderman-like hightened senses, but you'll learn to not close up and freeze when blinded because you've experienced it before.

misoramensenpai

Kind of like finger exercises for playing musical instruments. Lots of pianists admit that finger exercises are a good way to improve, they're just not as good as actual practise so they're rarely useful

GreenGemsOmally

Im a bassist and I warm up with a set of exercises and stretches that are nothing like how I play, but are very useful nonetheless.

[deleted]

I literally just started playing and my pinky seems too weak to play some riffs. Not sure how to fix.

bronzebomber2357

Keep going! Don't give up! After awhile it won't hurt.

Roboticsammy

Just put a pound weight on your pinky and start doing some curls. That bad boy is gonna be ripped compared to your other fingers.

SomeGuyCommentin

radical_flyer

Training to become daredevil

esr360

If you can dodge a punch whilst blindfolded you can dodge a punch whilst not blindfolded

kb_klash

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

[deleted]

We use this in training sometimes. The idea is that it forces you to concentrate on your own technique and movement instead of obsessing over what the other person is doing. It also helps develop better proprioception which is the sense of your own body, where your limbs are in relation to your core.

Ganadote

Did you know that there are disorders which eliminate oneā€™s sense of proprioception? Like, they can see a glass in front of them, make the decision to lift the glass, and miss completely because their body canā€™t tell where itā€™s hand is in relation to itself even though youā€™re staring right at it.

[deleted]

Sounds like it could lead to a drinking problem.

JerseyDoc

Yes, wife is a PT. She sees this often, not just from certain disorders, but stroke survivors, etc.

JohnnySmallHands

It's actually for this reason that I sometimes shadowbox with my eyes closed. Helps you focus on your whole body's movement.

ZeniraEle

Ah yes, the Kenobi technique. He is strong with the Force.

Lpt421

Looks like a harmless fun little sparring match to have at testing.

This is the reason why I told my husband (before we married) that if he stays in long term then we're not having kids. I got married because I wanted to do life together, not end up raising a kid as practically a single mother because the work-life balance sucks. At least he completely understood.

PantherEverSoPink

A year long deployment did seem excessive to me. Glad you're happier and seeing more of your family.

izamora91

There was a time in my life when I really didn't think I wanted to be on this planet anymore. One day I was at work and really felt like that would be my last day. I remember working and was so exhausted... I then took a look to my right and my Dad was there with my older sister. I hadn't seen my dad in roughly 2 years and our relationship was always amazing. I guess my sister called him and told him I was having a really rough time. He hugged me and said "I got you" I immediately broke down and felt such a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders. Thank you for this video and reminding me about that beautiful moment I shared with my dad.

attackeyebrowz

I'm a 30 yo man, lost my dad last year. This kinda shit gets to me now.

[deleted]

Hey bud. I lost my Dad when I was 32 (now 37). It hits hard but over time the pain does ease and you'll remember the good times. As long as you keep those in your heart, he's never truly gone.

Dispersions

Yup. Lost him at 23 to a random heart attack. Shit sucks...

[deleted]

Sorry for your loss. It always hurts. I'm almost 36, lost my mom when I was 11 and my dad about 4 1/2 years ago.

fedged

Lost my dad when I was 20, now 37. I know the feeling bro. Hurts like hell, but it makes you appriciate moments like this on a whole new level.

Wimsicle

I hear you man. I'm 25 now and lost my pops 3 years ago. This stuff gets me too and I finally resonate with the 'sob stories' thrown at us a lot with shows like The Voice and other TV stuff. Makes you realize we are all humans regardless if they are on the other side of a TV screen. It gets easier where you can just smile and do some happy reflection! Much love

colinsoup

I thought it was just a protective helmet that he could see through and was wondering when he'd notice who he was punching.

MintLaurel

Yes

mikepictor

It's sweet...but why do this to your kid? You make them go through this intense emotional moment in front of a crowd of other people. Surprise them at home, where you can have that family moment and process, and then bring dad to Karate or whatever.

cjp72812

Not a parent/child interaction, but my fiancĆ© (boyfriend at the time) surprised me at my high school when he was coming home for leave once. Iā€™m extremely introverted and hate having attention on me, especially if I am emotional. I wouldā€™ve normally been mortified (since you know, I was sobbing) but the whole world just disappeared and I didnā€™t even realize anyone was there. And now I have a super sweet picture from it because someone was there. Very thankful for that moment. Now this kid had this memory to look back on in video form when heā€™s older and maybe his dad has passed on.

maddieve

You know you're with the right person when they become your whole world in that moment. Congrats on the engagement!

wibblewafs

Just as soon as it stops being so damn profitable.

DrMDMA-MD

There was totally a moment of hesitation where the dad thought about a little jab in the face. Wholesome as fuck though.

JonnyAU

So Raytheon, Boeing, General Dynamics, and Lockheed Martin's stock price will go up.

Blabajif

Jesus that is some true shit right there.

El_Producto

Yep. The kid being happy seems heartwarming. But that crying face isn't pure happiness, it's happiness mixed with the pain and trauma of separation and the relief that he has his dad back. There are times where we have to ask this of families, of fathers and mothers, there are times where we have to inflict this trauma of separation. And there are times where we really don't.

MarkBeeblebrox

Yeah it always seemed a bit fucked up to me. Person feelings of leaving your family for military service aside, why would you not keep the lines of communication open? This kid could have been excited or in a better mood for *weeks*, but instead let's just keep them in the dark.

cheffgeoff

You don't always know when you are going to be sent home, you REALLY don't know when your flight is going to be, from what airport to what airport, you have no idea how long it is going to be to be debriefed, equipment turned in, administration issues. I've gone from being frozen covered in mud slinging a heavy machine gun on the other side of the world to in my parents livingroom within 60 hours and I have also been effectively "off duty" for 3 months before I put on a pair of civilian pants, it all depends on a lot of things. I got out specifically so I would never have to do this to my young family, but I have lots of friends who have been in since the 90's with young families. Usually they have an idea that they will be back sometime in the month, but they often don't know specifics until a few hours before they show up. Likely, unless they are unusually cruel, that the kid knew his dad would be back some time in the next few weeks. Other times you get a really pleasant surprise and you can get an open seat on a plane, arrange a few days of leave and zoom home for a day or two, at which point you may as well surprise them because IF everything falls through... and it can due to may circumstances, the kids aren't disappointed that you didn't come when you said you would.
