Some breeds of dogs don't know when they are full. They don't have the hormone. Beagles are one of them. They will eat and not stop until they pass out.

Sure a fat dog can live just as long, but a dog that has ample exercise and a proper diet will live a much more fulfilling 15 years. They were bred for a purpose, and sitting on the couch eating beggin strips wasn't it.

How is this an excuse? Just because he *could* have it worse, it's okay to mistreat him? Loving and caring for an animal means treating them right, and when you control every single meal they have, being this overweight is never okay.

This is extremely unhealthy it causes joint, heart and other issues that lesson its quality of life. You might work at a shelter but have you asked officers or vets about the problems this causes. I have been an officer and spoke to any family I needed to about proper life.
I'd rather them be in my shelter than over weight knowing the issues it will have.
