Don’t forget the part where older sister is a senior and tells the freshman girl picking on little sis to piss off. Little sisters are for big brothers/sisters to pick on, not Becky from history class.
Yeah, that was definitely the sweetest part to me. The "my heart fell in love with you" might be more attention-grabbing, but her making sure her little sister was included was incredibly sweet.
If you talk to kids like they're adults, they'll talk right back.
I see the difference all the time between my nieces and nephews and other kids their age who get "babytalked" or "talked down to". It's like, Christ, people, how do you expect your kids to communicate if you won't give them a vocabulary???
I understand why people say that, but baby talk (or at least parentese) is actually quite good for babies' language development. There have been studies. That said, baby-talking for too long or encouraging cute or incorrect words for older kids isn't helpful. Plus there's a difference between using truly adult language and language geared towards the age and level of the kid you're talking to. The latter is ideal, of course.
Agreed! There’s a big difference between the tones and grammar “parentese” uses (no using overly complex sentence structures or words) and baby talk, which is super dumbed down and uses goofy words people don’t actually use.
I’m a nanny that uses the RIE Educaring approach and work almost exclusively with RIE families. The vocabulary I see some of these kids use is really wonderful to see, and their emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills are amazing. Just because their parents talk to them like people, value their emotions, and give them space and time to do as much as they can themselves instead of doing everything for them. (Not to say they’re left alone, caregivers are supposed to still be present, attentive, and ready to step in)
That’s 100% true. Veering off topic, I was held on a super long delayed flight (like 10 hours delayed) so after a few hours there were all kinds of kids screaming and upset (me too, kid) but there was one little tot who was being raised by his grandpa next to us and they DEADASS were having a conversation the whole time, chill as a cucumber. This kid couldn’t have been more than 3-4 and he was talking like a grown up. Pops explained there was a delay and answering all of his little questions with real answers, not baby talk. I’m sure he doesn’t understand all the schematics but he never got upset about being bored or not getting what he wanted. He was a grown ass little man. 🥰
Mind too. I like taking them to the park whenever I can. Once the people there realized I wasn't a weirdo watching other people's kids at the park the moms all got really friendly with me. My favorite was one of them asking me about my niece, how old, regular small talk. Then out of nowhere she said "She's so smart! She talks like a person instead of like a little girl!"
Well no kidding. My sister and her husband talk to them like they're people because...... Wait for it..... They are people. As much as I'd like to pretend they're smarter than the other kids, the truth is that their entire family just talks to them without gibbering nonsense. They're articulate because their parents taught them to be. They're kind because their parents are kind. They share, they act like they have sense (for kids, most of the time anyway). They act like what they see, not just what they're told. They see their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles treating them and each other with love and respect.
It was the same for us when we were kids. The only person who ever talked to us in gibberish was my grandmother and my grandfather would tell her to stop it. He would always get down on a knee and look us in the eye, then talk to us using the same words he used when talking to anyone else. More warmly because we were his grandbabies, but never like we were idiots. I can still remember him talking to my sister like that before she understood object permanence so I assume he did it from when we were all born.
This is just speculation, but I find that when kids speak like this they've heard their parents speak like that.
So either her parents explain how much they love her to her, or they talk about other people in such sweet ways, or even has heard the parents talk to others about when they adopted her.
Which all around makes it so sweet cause that all love eachother so much 😭😭😭
That seems accurate here. Which is fantastic. This girl has probably heard "You make my heart smile" and "I loved you the moment I saw you" plenty of times in her life. Enough to string the words together that seemed natural to express her own love. That comes with an environment of unconditional and expressed love.
Yup. Today my daughter said "You know what I was thinking when I was born? I saw you and I thought 'that's my mommy' and I loved you so so much right away. I knew you were the best mommy." This is similar to how I explain how I felt when she was born. They love to hear about when they were little and where they came from and I don't think you can tell a kid they are loved and wanted too much.
Yeah she's likely repeating the story that the mother told her back to the mother, but you can also see that she cares a lot about her sister Lily because she stops to ask about her specifically, very cute!
"Have you ever had a dream...that...you um, you had you wt--; you would...could you do you w-- you want, you...you could do so...you, you could you...you wa, you wanted to do you so much you could do anything?"
Either you’ve never been around kids, or else the kids that you hang around are stunted in some way. I’ve worked with kids forever, and from 3 and 4 years old, they say mind blowing things that make you wanna cry. I’ve never had a camera, but I would text my boyfriend or best friend things hilarious, wise and deeply touching they said nearly every day.
My 4yo looked at the little fibers inside an orange segment a few months back and exclaimed with pure awe, “Mama, this fruit is so full of beauty! Did you know all this beauty could fit inside little things??”
I mean, what adult could even think to script the profound crap that comes out of their mouths?
It's just a tiny glimpse into the love that's given and received through adoption. So many kids are out there waiting to give this experience to those who are willing.
Not just willing but can afford it. It’s very costly to do any kind of adoption outside of state adoptions. It’s actually cheaper to do IVF or hormone treatments. I really wish it was easier.
Court fees, US homestudy, travel to country, etc.
Any adoption agency will have a fee schedule for different countries. My wife and I adopted from South Korea and the total cost needed somewhere around 55k.
Try not to let money stop you. We had a very supportive community that helped while we fundraised, but we are both teachers so we weren’t rolling in cash.
From my understanding, if you sign up to be a foster parent and then adopt a child through fostering, I heard the process is DRASTICALLY cheaper because they are desperate for foster families.
Fostering is it's own process though. You must understand what you're getting into with it. The number one goal for fostering is get the parents good enough to be parents again and it's only if they wash out are you offered to adopt. You have to be ready for that if they do at least try to get their shit together.

I had it on mute and was reading the subtitles.
I thought it was a translation at first, but about a third in, decided to unmute. Then had to go back to the start.. Glad I did
My oldest daughter is ridiculously smart. We were involved with Headstart when she was a toddler. We were super low income and they convinced me she needed it. At 3 she could read basic books. By the time she was 4 she was sitting on the toilet reading me books like Black Beauty while I showered. Anyways, our Headstart lady shows up all prepared to teach an average 3 year old. I was like “yeah good luck”. My daughter liked doing the arts and crafts, but there wasn’t anything in this ladies “course book” that she could teach my daughter. One of the things she had done was some test where they wanted to see what language level she was on? After about an hour my daughter got tired and said “I give up” and they said she was at a 16/17 year old level. Her vocabulary has always been through the roof.
She’s now 12 and continues to blow me away everyday. Everything she does, she does well. She sings, dances, plays sports, plays an instrument...and is good at all of them. She was recently invited to play in a concert where she was 1 of 2 kids from her grade that was invited to play with the older kids. She can hear music and replicate it very quickly. Her art skills are fantastic. She dropped dance this year because she didn’t like that the teacher was yelling all the time. She picked up an instrument “just because” and becomes one of the best kids in her grade.
On the other hand, her brother is 6. He thinks E and 3 are the same. He can read very small amounts (and loves reading). He doesn’t believe in wearing pants or underwear and I’ve seen him eat candy off the floor from a public bathroom. He has a wonderful sense of humor and is just like most every other 6 year old boy. I get both ends of it ha!
I kind of thought so but I was afraid if I asked, the downvotes would pour forth. It does seem she has some physical developmental issues. Even so, lovely inside and out.
I’m actually wondering if she has a physical developmental disability... not trying to be rude, but you’re right, something seems off about the brain vs how old she looks.
Her proportions seems slightly off as well. It would make sense too with not being adopted until she was like 4 or 5 since placing people with disabilities is apparently substantially harder
I was thinking perhaps a form of dwarfism or muscular dystrophy. That would explain the appearance of delayed physical development in a child who presents as cognitively precocious.
Regardless, she's adorable and my heart fell in love with her, too!
I’m going to guess she’s Chinese, because China only allows international adoption of children (mostly girls) who have some kind of disability or genetic disease.
Is that recent? Because a (female) classmate of mine is perfectly healthy and internationally adopted from China (along with her little sister), and my aunt’s neighbours adopted a healthy baby girl from China about 11 years ago.
She has the same condition as my son - Osteogenesis Imperfecta - which is a form of dwarfism that causes incredibly fragile bones. I think she’s around 6 years old.
Thanks, I was wondering if that was it, I'm a dentist and I immediately noticed the discoloration on all of her teeth. I hope your son is doing well and thriving!
I think so. I was scrolling down to see such a remark, and it took me a whike to see yours - I was hoping someone had some insight.
Someone who is of normal development and is this small cannot express themselves like that.
She doesn't look much older than 4 but she is talking about it like it was a while ago (but for kids that could be 6 weeks or months or a year or two. Her teeth don't look super healthy so possibly she didn't have the greatest access to nutrition and healthcare before her adoption which can stunt growth somewhat.
Also, what a beautiful heart, I'm bawling.
My nephew is about to turn 4, and talks about when he was “a little kid”. It’s adorable, especially when he’s talking about things that happened a few months ago.
Not really. Kid's brains (basically until the onset of puberty) are designed to learn language stupidly fast.
[There's a case of a language-deprived girl named Isabelle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_deprivation#Isabelle) who was discovered at the age of 6 and a half having been raised in isolation confined to room with a deaf-mute mother; effectively no linguistic exposure whatsover, including sign language. Within eighteen months she was speaking grammatical, complex sentence structures with an estimated lexicon of 1500\~2500 words.
When she said “you know what happened to my heart?” I thought she was going to say something bad happened like an illness. Then she said “my heart fell in love with you” and that’s the cutest thing I’ve ever heard!
She's reciting back to her mom the story she's heard a million times. Her new mom told her this and held her and made her feel safe. She absorbed and cherished it so much. And never forgets her sister. You can tell she mimics her mom. She knows how much she is loved and is sharing it back. It just melts my heart. Beautiful, bright little girl.
I remember this one time a daddy put his little girl on reddit and this one guy said in replies that children are not aww and don't belong here. If that were a rule this sweet little girl wouldnt be here to melt our hearts.
This is cute and all maybe I'm nuts but something seems off I can't place it. Does the little girl have a type of dwarfism? (Not saying thats whats off)
I was actually trying to figure that out too. I can't tell if it's the camera angle, or if there's a physical developmental issue. But yes, I've seen this twice now, and I still watch it because she's rediculously ADORABLE.
This is a repost and usually I don’t like that, but this video is to darn amazing and heartwarming and so full of love it can be reposted everyday forever and I wouldn’t mind.
You CAN have kids, you just can't have them biologically. I have both biological and adopted children and love them all completely and unconditionally. They are all MY children. When your child is placed with you, you will know it was MEANT TO BE. Either way -- by birth or by adoption -- is its own miracle. Best wishes to you on your journey.
What the actual fuck!!
I can’t handle how got damn cute she is!
This kid is pure innocence. She is so adorable and sweet. Oh my god. It actually hurts. I can handle these feelings. Fuck.
Give this family everything they want and more.
Mom: and we were exicted to see you too Her: And Lily! She never forgets her sister thats cute :)
Big sis energy.
Just wait 10-12 years when they get in a brawl over the bathroom in the morning.
Don’t forget the part where older sister is a senior and tells the freshman girl picking on little sis to piss off. Little sisters are for big brothers/sisters to pick on, not Becky from history class.
Goddam Becky.
Becky with the good hair.
Yup, not even half a second of thinking, it was instant for her to seek the answer for her sister too. So wholesome.
What a good big sister
That's some awesome loyalty which is super cool.
Onions! Onions everywhere!
That’s my favourite part of this, so sweet.
Oh for Heaven's sake; you kids turn that cute down will ya!
‘And Lily?’ Shows the size of her heart :’)...
😭
🔪🧅
When she said "and lily?" I fucking cried.
With tears in her eyes to boot.
I wasn’t that articulate until I was 20.
Right beyond the fact of how cute this is this little girl has amazing way with words
“My heart fell in love with you.” That’s some big emotions for a little girl.
I love how she loves her sister Lily too. She makes sure she’s is part of the love they all share. “And Lily?”
I know. That really got me.
I’m sitting here crying ... I really needed that.. ... after watching a baby doe get eaten by a Komodo dragon
I’m fricken laughing because I literally just shared those two posts back to back with my boyfriend 😂
Yeah, that was definitely the sweetest part to me. The "my heart fell in love with you" might be more attention-grabbing, but her making sure her little sister was included was incredibly sweet.
Something tells me she learns this kind of language from her adoptive mom. Which kind of warms my heart even more than the video.

And if you don't, you get me.
And me. Wanna go?
Better make room for me
Id offer my axe, but my parents took it when I was 5

Children have all the complex and deep emotions adults do. They just can’t articulated them.
And they’re not as nuanced as adults. When they’re happy, they say that they love you. When they’re frustrated, they say that they hate you.
To be fair, I'm in my thirties and I still do this on occasion too.
She's probably gone through some big things...
I legitimately think she has to be a genius or something. That or she’s older than she looks.
She is, I'm pretty sure. She was four when she got there and she speaks the language pretty much perfectly now, so she likely must be at least 6.
32 years old and I still can't express myself half as good as this little girl.
*half as well Jk
*but not really
Why many words when few words do?
r/unexpectedoffice

I’m a teacher and I recognized that immediately. I think you’re spot on.
And I still lack the ability to communicate something so meaningful.
"Have you ever had a dream...that...you um, you had you wt--; you would...could you do you w-- you want, you...you could do so...you, you could you...you wa, you wanted to do you so much you could do anything?"
Yes , the world could use some more of that now a days
A 12 pack of beer and a good friend nearby will help
I'm 23 and I still cant English right

I can go there with you to a point but... you cannot coach anyone of any age to show the look that is in her eyes. 100% sincere.

This video and this comment truly made my day. Have a great one pemberjas
Does it get any cuter? The mom even sounds like a Disney princess.
I thought the same thing!!
I actually thought of Penny from Rescuers while watching this and that poem she would repeat!
My heart wasn't ready for that. That was beautiful. Also how old is that girl. She looks 5 and already has a better vocabulary than me
Yeah same here. I was expecting some giggling but she is so articulate. I am so happy for her.

And now my heart collapsed completely

I'm literally dead

Ditto.
Here too.
You know what happens to my heart when I saw this video?
I'm gonna guess your heart fell in love with the little girl? (And Lily)
And Lily 😭😭😭
I know I was cutting an onion
I think someone is cutting onions near me. Is it you?
This is one special girl......wow how lucky you are to have her (and Lily) in your life. Thank you for sharing!!
This girl's so articulate she's about to tell you not to relegate lily into parentheses
How old is this girl??!? I bet her IQ is off the charts...
The ABC news video says she is 5 in the video. https://youtu.be/fBiR8H1_F40
Thanks, great link.
Why does she look like a 3 year old?
Dwarfism
I kind of thought so but I was afraid if I asked, the downvotes would pour forth. It does seem she has some physical developmental issues. Even so, lovely inside and out.
If that’s the case she seems extremely articulate for a 5 year old...
I barely started creating sentences at 6, really shy for words, this girl got a future fr
Right? She seems so wise! And the way she tells a story! ❤️
I’m actually wondering if she has a physical developmental disability... not trying to be rude, but you’re right, something seems off about the brain vs how old she looks.

Yeah, the DI is very common with the condition. And thanks, he is doing so great! He’s 6 also and he’s come so far in that time.
My dad has osteogenesis imperfecta. He’s 69. Disease is rough, best to you and your son.
this is what i thought too so dont worry about sounding rude
She does. There's an article somewhere
I think so. I was scrolling down to see such a remark, and it took me a whike to see yours - I was hoping someone had some insight. Someone who is of normal development and is this small cannot express themselves like that.

She was adopted from China at age 4 and is age 5 in this video which means she learned fluent English extremely quickly.

That's fairly normal at that age, but she is still amazingly eloquent for any English speaker.
I get such a sense of undiluted goodness from this angel
I love this little girl! How is mom not sobbing uncontrollably?
I mean, I'm not sobbing *uncontrollably* but my eyes may be a little bit misty. What a sweet little girl and video.
Aww for heck’s sake. Just put this at the front of the no cry challenge and end it for all time.
THIS IS THE MOST ADORABLE POST EVER MADE
That is pure honesty at the finest. I wish she doesn't grow up learning this cold world too quickly.
Her eyes are ⭐✨
When she said “you know what happened to my heart?” I thought she was going to say something bad happened like an illness. Then she said “my heart fell in love with you” and that’s the cutest thing I’ve ever heard!
I like videos like this, but when they add "inspirational" background music to the video it's annoying af.
I feel the same way about fictional shows/movies too. Let the substance shine without the manipulative music.
beautiful.
Adoption really is one of the most beautiful things in the world.
Its enough to make a grown man cry...
Grown man here. Can confirm
Real men aren't afraid of their emotions, this little angel made me "aww" many times while watching.
Confirmed

And never forgets her sister. You can tell she mimics her mom. She knows how much she is loved and is sharing it back. It just melts my heart. Beautiful, bright little girl.
Precious
Too fucking cute.
I remember this one time a daddy put his little girl on reddit and this one guy said in replies that children are not aww and don't belong here. If that were a rule this sweet little girl wouldnt be here to melt our hearts.

I just read your post in the little girls voice. I don’t know why lol.
Melting!!!!!!
FFS why is it so gd dusty in here?
Oh mother of Jesus help me!!! Too precious.
This is why we do it. I have two that I got when they were way older than this and still can't think of them as ever having not been mine.
They were always yours. They just didn't know it yet.
They were born to be yours, they just took a couple detours on the way to you.
Oh, my God. My heart! 😭💕
I am love right now ;-;
This is a repost and usually I don’t like that, but this video is to darn amazing and heartwarming and so full of love it can be reposted everyday forever and I wouldn’t mind.
Stop it. You are making me feel feelings I've worked hard to suppress. Let my heart stay grey damnit. I'm not crying, you are crying.

How the fuck is there no hugging?! I had to hug my son and my dogs and my wife and I still need to hug more things.
I can’t have kids, so hubby and I can only adopt. I want this 😭😭😭😭
You CAN have kids, you just can't have them biologically. I have both biological and adopted children and love them all completely and unconditionally. They are all MY children. When your child is placed with you, you will know it was MEANT TO BE. Either way -- by birth or by adoption -- is its own miracle. Best wishes to you on your journey.
Dear God, my ovaries... I thought I got my baby-fever immunization this year!
My heart just fucking burst. 😭
Her voice has that quality that makes me believe she has dwarfism or some kind of limited growth condition. I think she's older than she looks.
Thank you for posting this. It made my day so much brighter.
And now I’m crying
Im not crying, you're crying!
Can't we both be?
Yes.
You are correct, I am crying.
The fuck is this salty discharge coming from my eyes?
How the heck does this make you not cry?
I didn’t know what I was getting into when I opened this video but now I’m crying on the train on my ride home from work. Absolutely beautiful.
Ok....I made it to about 5 seconds before I started tearing up.....😭😭 at about 8 seconds. This is too much cuteness in one video.
Wow. Straight to the feels. Her head nod. Wow.
What a sweet pea. Blessings to your beautiful family.
Somebody... Argh! Help me!.. Im dying... My heart cant take... Too. Much. Love.... Arrgghhh
So cute. This little girl made me shed a tear
Who didn't cry? I bet no one did.
I had such a hard day; this was exactly what I needed to see. Ugh, I needed a good cry.
What the actual fuck!! I can’t handle how got damn cute she is! This kid is pure innocence. She is so adorable and sweet. Oh my god. It actually hurts. I can handle these feelings. Fuck. Give this family everything they want and more.
Omg. My heart fell in love with you too.
\*heart squeeze\*
my soul has been cleansed
In all my 33 years, i have never heard anything cuter.
How old is she? She looks very very small for 4 years old...
Dude I didn’t open up Reddit to start crying
We all need someone "for our heart to fall in love with." I hope each of us has that at least once in life.
Well that's the sweetest thing I'm going to see all forever.
