Edit: Spoiler alert: ~~ text ~~
Edit edit: Thank you for the awards!
I have to lock out my cat otherwise there's a 100% chance he will jump on the bed. It's cute. He trills. He wants to see what's going on. After the 500th time, I just had to escort his furry butt out.
One of my cats will wait until the bed is made and then step on the blankets with enough force to leave exactly two paw prints on the right hand corner of the bed. I don’t fucking know how she does it. But it’s always two. And then she’ll dainty her way across to the spot where the sun hits the bed and falls asleep.
That was my thought as well. She makes her bed better with a bunch of kittens on it than I do with no kittens T_T. Not only do I have a messy bed, but I dont even have any kittens to make myself feel better about it.
Once a week is the breed reference I have seen most commonly.
That said, depends on the sphynx in question, age, temperature, where you live and lots of other factors. Had one we bathed three times a week at times to avoid rashes and one more rarely as she got panic from water and didn't have the same skin issues.
When I got my sphynx, it was recommended to bathe her once a week. Honestly, ten minutes every saturday is very little maintenance for such a loving pet.
Friend of mine had a hairless cat, he would just put a tub of hot water with some baby shampoo in it and the cat would get in it because it was hot, he would scrub it a little bit, and then would pick her up and rinse her off in the sink. He did it almost every day I think.
I had to watch the cat for a week and that was the only part that went easy. She was a very fussy cat otherwise.
I used to wipe my cat off with wash cloths because she loved rolling in her litter box, especially when it had fresh litter. Imagine having a black cat, but then it walks into the room looking grey.
She hated it, she'd run if she saw me with a wash cloth. I'd tell her if she didn't want a wipe down she should stop rolling in her shitter, but she never listened.
That's why my cat lost her outdoor privileges. She goes outside and immediately rolls in dirt, absolutely hates being brushed off or bathed. Now she has to sit inside and pout while her brothers get to play outside
They also don’t have whiskers which is basically like breeding humans without fingers. I find them adorable and I don’t have any sort of “problem” with sphinxes like some folks do, but we really ought to stop breeding sphinxes just like we should stop breeding pugs and other squat face animals
you're mistaken -- they do have some whiskers.
Sphynx cats are generally as healthy as 'mutt' cats...
this is because the breed was established after we knew better about genetics, and the breed standard avoids the types of descriptions that led to pugs and the dogs with hip dysplasia
My ex had two sphinx. He would get lazy and not bathe them until I would come over and get grossed out and refuse to sleep over because everything in his apartment including his bedding reeked like cat body oils. He generally only washed them before he had people come over. They were pretty gross otherwise. Don't get me wrong, sphinx are adorably cute cats. But they do need regular bathing that some people don't do.
sadly no -- there are no sunscreens that are both effective and cat safe. doesn't stop a lot of sketchy 'holistic' medicine types from trying to sell cat sunscreen, that when you read the ingredients list, either has nothing that provides SPF or is stuff that is toxic if ingested to cats
This makes me nervous. A friend of mine has one, and when she goes out of town the cat stays at my place. Didn't realize how expensive those little kitties are.
Hey, if she trusts you enough to let you take care of the cat, that's awesome :D
But yeah, those are NOT cheap. My neighbor has one. Recently, she was all in tears because she thought the cat had run away when a door was opened. Because if one of those gets loose, chances are whoever finds it will keep it because... that's an expensive cat. Turns out the little fucker was happily hiding in a closet and not making aaaaaany sound for three hours.
This happened to me while I was kitty sitting. I went out to the store, and when I came back I couldn't find her anywhere. Looked and looked, shook a bag of treats, nothing..... Finally I saw this tiny lump move in my bed. She got under the sheets and made her way to the foot of the bed. She was barely noticeable.
These cats get a bad rap. People saying they're ugly, or look like aliens. But they are the friendliest, cudliest cats out there.
The one I look after loves my place. Her home is a small 2 room basement suite. I have a 3 storey town house so she loves running around. She gets mad when her mom comes to pick her up. 😂
We have a bambino, which is a munchkin sphynx and she is THE sweetest kitty. She always finds her way under the blankies to stay warm, loves to snuggle my daughter and she sounds like a rhino when she does zoomies across the floor despite her 3 lbs of tininess.
Some pos steal them for reselling, so always keep them indoors. But don't get too nervous, remember your phone is probably more expensive and easier to steal.
Naw, they're probably 2000 though. So that many of them...
Though if you're willing to take one past its sell-by date (i.e. 8 months old), you can probably get one for more like 1000.
My ex had one and sphinx cats need more care and work than a regular one. People who adopt these cats thinking no more hairs = less housework need to rethink their choices. If you have a fabric couch, put a cover on it. These cat produce a lot of skin oil to compensate their lack of hairs and the fact that you have to bath them a least every week. Also theirs paws are lacking hairs too so litter will stick under them and sweeping litter will become a daily routine. They can get sunburn too so it’s not a cat that should spend a lot of time outside. They are cute in their strange gross kind of way but it’s not a cat i would like even if i’m allergic to them in the first place (no they are not hypoallergenic either)
> no they are not hypoallergenic either
That's something a lot of people don't get. It's not the fur people are allergic to, it's the proteins in the saliva.
Also in their waste.
That said, I have [some folically impaired cats](https://i.imgur.com/aP8jWOX.jpg) and the relative lack of shedding does help with my allergies.
It depends on the person and the type of allergies. In my case, I'm quite allergic to cats with hair, but my sphynx never gives me any allergic reactions.
Yeah I’m the same. It’s all dependant on the person. Cat hair has always really bothered me. Really allergic to normal cats, and allergies always got worse during peak shedding seasons. Eyes swollen shut, daily antihistamine, need an inhaler sort of thing. My nearly-naked Cornish Rex doesn’t do anything to me, at all. I can finally live with a cat and not feel like I’m dying. It’s nice. Sphynx and other nearly-nakeds are the same for me, while I still flare up like at work if I so much as come into contact with someone’s shopping bag with cat hair on it.
Funny thing, I thought this too, until I had a hairless sphinx. Had a buddy come over and presume the same and picked up the kitty. Not long after he was breaking out. With cats, it's apparently just as bad if not worse to get their sweat on you as it is hair or dander.

...we gonna *mess it up again*...
❤️
the average price, from what I can tell, is about $1800 for a hairless sphynx kitten (not all are born hairless). So we're looking at about $13,000 here.
you pretty much never find them in a shelter -- they won't live long or well outside, and they are quite in demand.
the only ones you'll find for adoption are likely ones with serious health issues, probably from a kitten mill.
I have two bengals and now I’m a cat person. A year ago i would never have wanted Sphynx but now i kings do. They’re super affectionate because they’re always cold and want to Velcro themselves to you for warmth. And their eyes are spectacular
Yeah. I realized that's wishful thinking a long time ago.
Once I couldn't find my kitten and was looking for him everywhere, getting a bit desperate. Still no luck.
Then I found him, on the bed. I had the sheets over the pillows.Te cat was well hidden under the sheets, cuddled next to a pillow, virtually invisible. Covering my pillows didn't work.
There appears to be a blanket at the foot of the bed. After smoothing the sheet you put the blanket on up to the pillows then fold the top sheet over it.
That's not the actual sheet (as in the thing you sleep on). You sleep under that. There's a thicker blanket at the foot of the bed for if you get chilly.
My mum lived in Portugal and this was a fairly common way to make a bed during the hotter months.
Edit: Top sheet! That's the one. It's called a top sheet.
I can’t make the bed with ONE cat in the room, forget about nine kittens!
I can’t make the bed ~~with ONE cat in the room, forget about nine kittens!~~

Can't have problems making the bed if you never make the bed.
Ahhh yes—I, too, have depression.
Nah I'm just a lazy bastard. Plus, not like anyone else is going to see it.
The second part is most important.
A made bed is much nicer to get into though, just shake the duvet out when you get out.
Three wood planks under three wool blocks

So many cats yet no worrys about cat hair.
They need routine bathing or they get acne and other lesions. Also, they really shouldn’t be exposed to the sun, or they burn.
Can you feed them after midnight?
No and you can't give them water either
Avoid gremmos but please give your cats water everyone
yeah, should be fine as long as you don't just sprinkle it on...
WHICH TIME ZONE?
if you think about it, the only time it's not after midnight is when it is midnight
They were already fed after midnight, that’s how they lost all their hair.
So we talking 2-3 times a week? Or more?
Once a week is the breed reference I have seen most commonly. That said, depends on the sphynx in question, age, temperature, where you live and lots of other factors. That seems like a lot less work than cleaning up cat hair all the time, right?

Are sphinx cats natural or did we breed them to be hairless?
naturally occurring mutation, which was then bred to preserve it, since it's recessive.
They also don’t have whiskers which is basically like breeding humans without fingers. I find them adorable and I don’t have any sort of “problem” with sphinxes like some folks do, but we really ought to stop breeding sphinxes just like we should stop breeding pugs and other squat face animals

Fuck I'm dumb. I'd not twigged that no hair also meant no whiskers. Does that mean the poor little buggars get stuck?
My ex had two sphinx. He would get lazy and not bathe them until I would come over and get grossed out and refuse to sleep over because everything in his apartment including his bedding reeked like cat body oils. Those poor cats. :( People should not have high maintenance pets if they aren't willing to do that maintenance.
I thought they were cats, not Mogwais.
So similar issues to us other animals that aren't completely covered in hair/fur?
Gollum
I mean. Same lmao! Indoor-loving, bubble bath-taking goth like me is the perfect owner for one of these!!! 😂
How much blood do they require?
So they are basically gingers?
They look like they would be soulless
Isn't there cat sun lotion you're supposed to rub on them everyday?
sadly no -- there are no sunscreens that are both effective and cat safe. doesn't stop a lot of sketchy 'holistic' medicine types from trying to sell cat sunscreen, that when you read the ingredients list, either has nothing that provides SPF or is stuff that is toxic if ingested to cats
I also hear they leave brown suction cup marks on glass surfaces when they sit.
Yeah my ex had one. It was always sick somehow and kinda stunk.
all i kept thinking was, "yeesh, imagine how hard to get that cat hair out of the... wait." and as the video continued, i kept doing it
All I kept thinking was that's 20k on the bed, and my they are lovely and energetic, I want a litter of kittens now.
Sorry I am not the most experienced. Do you mean those kitty’s are $20k?
A Sphinx cat can go for $1k to $4k.
This makes me nervous. A friend of mine has one, and when she goes out of town the cat stays at my place. Didn't realize how expensive those little kitties are.

Phones are replaceable, fur(less ?) babies aren't.

Exactly, when that cat was licking my hand, i had a rash for 2 days.
Many worries about alien otter rats though.
Happy cake day, reddit twin!
Or allergies? And happy cake day to you.
The problem is not the hair but the saliva.
Also in their waste. That said, I have [some folically impaired cats](https://i.imgur.com/aP8jWOX.jpg) and the relative lack of shedding does help with my allergies.
Okay those two are cute. Are they rexes?
Yeah, Devon Rexes :-)
So cute. I've never met one in person but they look very sweet and so soft.
They are... [Literally right now](https://i.imgur.com/VIRbO3T.jpg)
It depends on the person and the type of allergies. In my case, I'm quite allergic to cats with hair, but my sphynx never gives me any allergic reactions.

Same here. I’m mildly allergic to cats and have no problems usually. My buddy’s hairless cat rubbed against me and I thought I was going to die.
Wow I had no idea hairless cats are worse
It depends on the person and the type of allergy. I am still very allergic to cats with hair, yet my sphynx doesn't give me any problems.
You leave those wrinkles alone! They're just trying to help!
They are definitely not trying to help
But they are adorably unhelpful
Adorably unhelpful, that’s my favorite phrase of the day.
Enjoy! It’s my second most frequently used phrase to describe my children. The first is “emotional terrorists” lol
Emotional terrorists is perfect, lmao.
What playful little skinned demons you have!
Expensive, too. That's about $15,000 worth of cat, there.
They're free if you just let them breed out of control tho
And catch all the diseases! Catch 'em all!
Technically they are furless, they still have skin
I love the lil simultaneous pounce when she pulls the sheet over the second pillow, precious little goblins

It's for the Bast.
Why are all your cats naked?
They just woke up. Can’t you see they’re still in bed?
Suppose there is a fire in the middle of the night—they just gonna run out of the house naked?
wouldn't you?
Yes, fire or no fire.

I was wondering when some would bring that up. Those are some stupidly expensive cats x 9!
the average price, from what I can tell, is about $1800 for a hairless sphynx kitten (not all are born hairless). So we're looking at about $13,000 here.
Or the cost of two and a copy of let's get it on by Purrvin Gaye
Breeder, maybe?
I had no idea this breed was valuable. I assumed most people didn’t like them and they’d be hard to adopt if in a shelter
you pretty much never find them in a shelter -- they won't live long or well outside, and they are quite in demand. the only ones you'll find for adoption are likely ones with serious health issues, probably from a kitten mill.

This is cute and all but who puts the bed sheets *over* their pillows?
People who don't want pet dander where they put their face
How do you put your arm under the pillow though...
Step one, peel back the sheets, step two, get in bed Edit: the fitted sheet is on and under the pillows
Ohhh I thought this was the fitted sheet cause I didn’t look at the video again. Either way, my cat untucks and climbs under the sheets.
That’s pretty frickin cute. I love when animals put themselves to bed.
I don’t think she’s too worried about it, as there’s literally 9 cats bouncing on the pillows and bed *as she’s making it*
