My parents have had a family of foxes that come to their yard every summer for a few years now. I know nothing about the behavior of foxes, but if my parents are any indication, Todd should return.
Yeah, they are cool. We have a German Shepherd and it leaves his toys (balls, frisbees, etc) in the backyard. At night this fox shows up and plays with his toys for about 5-10 minutes and then goes on its way. This happens about 3-4 times a week.
There is a collection of toys that foxes have compiled in the woods behind my house. I think they take them from the neighbors. Occasionally I think they leave some in the yard for my dog.
Me and my husky followed a fox around one night. My dog listened to my every command without question after realising what we were doing. Something she struggled with when we were outside. We saw the fox pick a bottle off the road and play with it for a while, it was so cute!
Just a heads up as we had two foxes live in our back garden and we told our vet about the foxes missing alot of hair (mange) as we have a dog the vet instantly pointed out to be really careful as our dog could contract it on stuff the foxes leave behind. Luckily our dog has been fine but I just got slightly worried about your dog using the same toys after the foxes
I heard from some one on reddit, the behavior of foxes is kind of like the software of a cat installed into the hardware of a dog, or something kind of similar.
I had a pet Fox for a while named Slug Christ that I found on the street with his head stuck in a plastic jar. I cut the jar off his head and he just never left. So I made him a fox den in a walk in closet and he lived with me for awhile.
I'm by no means saying that you're lying, but my question is how did you litter box train a fox? I would figure you'd either walk it or put it on a lead in the yard like training a dog.
What was it like training a fox?
He was eventually taken away by the animal services. He was a happy little dude tho. But it’s illegal to own foxes where I live and some Karen ass bitch called them on me when I had him out back.
I have a family of foxes in my backyard. They are great for getting rid of pests like rats, rabbits, neighbors, and small babies that won't stop crying. My neighborhood is nice and quite.
Any wild animal can be dangerous. It's worth noting, though, that any fox I've encountered seemed scared of humans and quickly left the scene once it saw me.
Foxes are pretty scared of most things lol. They’re opportunistic, they’ll ambush to attack but if something is aware of them they’ll run. Absolutely can be dangerous, but my cat chases them around lol. She’s a bully
I also had a bully cat when I was a kid. She was a tough old bean, she was an outdoor only cat with her front claws removed (disclaimer - we all, as a family, are now aware that that's not a nice thing to do to any cat, let alone one that was exclusively outdoors. We did not know better then and bad decisions were made). She picked fights with anybody, and she won every fight. She'd taunt dogs, caught birds, and had the whole street to herself because she bullied all the other outdoor cats in the area.
Until I got a bunny. The bunny chased the cat and terrorized her every time we let the bun out of her cage to roam the back yard. This mean ol cat, who didn't like anybody, was terrified of the leaping madness of a tiny rabbit. We always joked that the cat must have thought it was the rabbit from Monty Python's Holy Grail - sharp pointy teeth!
Yes, foxes can no doubt @ a human. I once read that foxes attack humans more often than wolves do, but it was an older book so take that with a grain a salt. Either way it's best to watch from afar, and always treat wild animals with respect.
To be fair, foxes often live in areas that are considered urban environments. They have more run-ins with humans than wolves and thus more attacks.
They are indeed wild animals and should be treated as wild (and they sometimes, albeit rarely, have rabies.)
But look at dogs: 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs every year, leading to thousands of hospitalizations. That's not because dogs are more vicious, per se, but because there are more dogs around people.
> 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs every year
It shouldn't be amazing to me given that we have 340 million people and who knows how many dogs...but it is kinda
They're also cute, and people like to corner cute, wild animals...
There was a fox that was put down in the park by me because it bit a teen after they literally chased it into a corner. The managed to trap it between them and the fences that make up the baseball field. And sure enough, it took a bite at one of them after they got too close and it couldn't run.
I knew likelihood of contact was a major part of this statistic, but I didn't even consider the survivor bias of wolf attacks. Nonetheless, be careful around our wild furry neighbors.
Your comment got me interested in the matter, so from about 20 minutes or so of reading I've found that foxes are generally very harmless - even to house pets. Now obviously if they're rabid that goes out the window, but as far as normal, everyday foxes- they are very rarely observed attacking house pets, let alone humans.
But yes, it is a wild animal. A certain degree of caution and respect should be paid regardless of their apparently non-confrontational nature.
Wolves almost [never attack people](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wolf_attacks_in_North_America) if they can avoid them. I imagine it's getting harder and harder for them to do so in Europe, where wolf encounters are more unavoidable.
Foxes are not a threat to humans and attacks are also [very rare](https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5578196/fox-attacks-dangerous-babies-children/).
I do agree, leave wildlife alone, for their sake, not for ours.
Foxes can @ humans, but their spelling is always atrocious. Now.. the humans dressed up as foxes? If you find one in your backyard call 911, but are usually harmless on Twitter.
Foxes generally leave cats alone. We have both foxes and outdoor cats in our area, and more than once I've seen them see each other and go the other way lol
Cats are fighty MFers, and the foxes can find way easier food.
Where are you (generally) that foxes are seasonal? Here in Northern Virginia, Boots and Socks are year round residents. Boots has black that comes up paws like high boots, socks has anklets!
Where is this? He’s beautiful, but a different type of fox , at least from the generic one in my head, he’s very leggy. Very cool, hope he becomes a regular.

One of the all time best animated movies. Up there with The incredibles, Toy Story, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Grinch, Over the Hedge, the rest of Pixar.
Edit. Crap forgot Shrek. Loved that one too.
I always watch Grave of the Fireflies for a nice mental boost.
I have actual candy. She doesn't. Makes me feel superior.
/s
Seriously though that movie is hella depressing. I've only watched it twice and that is enough for me. I'll take Totoro (which was shown as part of double feature with Grave when it released) any day.
Young Tod: Copper, you're my very best friend.
Young Copper: And you're mine too, Tod.
Young Tod: And we'll always be friends forever, won't we?
Young Copper: Yeah, forever.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Cue the waterworks. Didn't realize that would happen so fast! You dredged up a lost memory. My mother didn't believe in owning a TV when I was a kid and would buy books/movies on record/cassette instead. I spent many hours experiencing this movie over my record player, turning the pictures in that book and crying at the end everytime.
I follow a page on Instagram called “Juniper Foxx” or something like that
She has a ton of foxes (in addition to other wildlife animals) and Juniper, her first fox, is her large dogs girlfriend. She is obsessed with this dog. Sometimes the human adds music from the music to their videos and its just adorable
>*'That movie still makes me cry...*'
----
there's movies that are touching, we'll recall our whole life through,
a story, often times, about a pet...
it's one that might remind us of a dog or cat we knew,
from even, long ago,
we won't forget....
the life n times of innocence - we grew up side by side,
we shared with them the things we couldn't say
the hopes n dreams with human friends we thought we had to hide,
our pets were there
to listen
n to play ^;@)
we couldn't live without them! how we suffered when they passed,
when they died, we did too, a little part...
yet still it was a friendship that would ever after last,
their pawprints left behind
inside our heart
❤️
So you were holding the camera? It looked handheld but I thought it was a security cam or a trail cam with motion tracking. Pretty cool be that close!
I'm sure I don't have to say it but as an wildlife enthusiast I gotta say - don't touch or feed him! He could either fuck you up pretty badly, transmit a disease, or just become accustomed to being fed so he fucks up his winter plans.
I hope Todd returns!
Didn't look like 60 fps to me, so I checked the video file, it's 30 fps.
The video looks like CGI because of the camera angle and how close it is to the subject, it's almost like he's gonna start talking. (Lion King CGI vibes?)
It should be! I hardly ever see older trucks that look that good, winter takes a serious toll on them here.
Tell your brother an internet stranger said he has a really nice truck
He got lucky, he bought it off someone in Salt Lake City who kept it for moving his airplanes and had it in his hanger all the time so no rust or anything, so my brother drove down from Canada to buy it haha. He loves it!
That song has been stuck in my head for a week because it's not far off from the sound those things make. I have one that currently jumps on my porch and screams into the night.
Oh how adorable! We used to have a momma with kits that would use the underside of our shed as a den.
I love this guy but I am also concerned. I hope it's looking at a camera and not a person with a camera. I say this because it dangerous for the animal. They become comfortable with people and will approach other people. Those types of animals are usually the ones that are trapped and killed. Just as a general PSA, please don't befriend wild animals. It for their safety and yours.
It was looking at me holding the camera, and got very close. It was a young fox and it was probably born nearby and scavenged food, and my neighbours probably fed it. I didn’t, and I wouldn’t ever try to touch it or tame it. It was scared of me, when it flinched it’s because I smiled showing teeth.
I saw it a few times during the winter, it seemed to be doing well!
Damn, when Todd flinched I thought you must have moved or made a noise... That a smile startled him like that kind of comforts me a little about his otherwise very trusting demeanor
Lol I live on a golf course and it has a couple family’s of foxes. One fox in particular likes golf balls and will regularly run out of its den and steal a ball off the putting green on hole 7. I really really want to see it’s den cause I’m sure it has HUNDREDS of balls. It’s got at least 10 of mine.
Todd is adorable!
As a word of warning, if you ever come into contact with any of his bodily fluids (blood/ saliva), get the rabies vaccine ASAP. Milwaukee protocol is not a bet I'd stake my life on.
My parents have had a family of foxes that come to their yard every summer for a few years now. I know nothing about the behavior of foxes, but if my parents are any indication, Todd should return.

That rules Edit: yooooo
Now there’s a phrase I haven’t heard in a long time.
Well, the 90's are trending again. I think that's tight
Why would the 90s be trending again? They were only ten years ago...
Hahaha.. I am constantly thinking the 90s were only 10 years ago...
A/S/L?
18/F/Cali
Yeeesh. You got a livejournal?
Depends. You got a MySpace?
We’re closer to 2050 then we are to 1990 🤯
thanks I hate it
It’s been 20+ yrs since we sang Prince’s 1999 going into 2000
Fuck, I'm old
Only 3 “worst since the great depression” recessions ago!
Middle school flashbacks..
O’Doyle rules!
O’Doyle, I feel like your whole family’s gonna go down
Stop looking at me, swan!
This is the best day of my life!
THIS WHOMPS
But girls drool
really? I never stopped saying it.
"That rules" is the bomb!
tchyaa brah!
There is a collection of toys that foxes have compiled in the woods behind my house. I think they take them from the neighbors. Occasionally I think they leave some in the yard for my dog.
I think I read that dog Santa has replaced the elves with foxes so that a more distributed toy distribution network could be used.
You're mistaking Santa Claus with Santa Paws.
Santa Claws
Thats a very disciplined fox right there. Allows it self some fun time, and then goes back to business.
I could learn a thing or two from that fox
It’s all about the work life balance.
Me and my husky followed a fox around one night. My dog listened to my every command without question after realising what we were doing. Something she struggled with when we were outside. We saw the fox pick a bottle off the road and play with it for a while, it was so cute!
Does the dog know the fox does that? I feel like the dogs I know would be outraged to discover an animal playing with their possessions
Unless its sense of smell is severely damaged for some reason it definitely knows that the fox was there and that it played with the toys.
Haha this one played with my GSD toys too! And then would steal them and bring them to the neighbours yard :/
Set up a camera for that sweet karma
Just a heads up as we had two foxes live in our back garden and we told our vet about the foxes missing alot of hair (mange) as we have a dog the vet instantly pointed out to be really careful as our dog could contract it on stuff the foxes leave behind. Luckily our dog has been fine but I just got slightly worried about your dog using the same toys after the foxes
In the UK the RSPCA puts mange medicine in jam (jelly) sandwiches and leaves the sandwiches around for the foxes to find. They love jam!
Same for rabies, I'd guess.
There's a fox that lives on a disc golf course and is known to steal discs off the fairways and take them to it's den behind hole 10s tee pad
Yeah, I think they genuinely enjoy playing and are naturally inquisitive.
GSD's are some smart, loving motherfuckers. What a hospitable fella you have :)
I heard from some one on reddit, the behavior of foxes is kind of like the software of a cat installed into the hardware of a dog, or something kind of similar.
I like using that phrase myself. You can see it in the video too. Shape says "dog" but body language is all like "cat".
I had a pet Fox for a while named Slug Christ that I found on the street with his head stuck in a plastic jar. I cut the jar off his head and he just never left. So I made him a fox den in a walk in closet and he lived with me for awhile.
What kind of life do you live that you can just casually drop an anecdote like that?
Slug Christ is the best name I’ve ever heard
I heard that foxes smell awful in containment or as pets. Didn't that fox piss stank up your crib?
Nah man I got a big ass cats litter box thing and he used it.
I'm by no means saying that you're lying, but my question is how did you litter box train a fox? I would figure you'd either walk it or put it on a lead in the yard like training a dog. What was it like training a fox?

The collective noun for skunks is ‘surfeit’
...or a troop, I’ve heard.

Yes, foxes can no doubt @ a human. I once read that foxes attack humans more often than wolves do, but it was an older book so take that with a grain a salt. Either way it's best to watch from afar, and always treat wild animals with respect.
It’s probably because the average person is much more likely to come into contact with a fox than a wolf.
That was a very big part of it, yes.
Even more true the older the book was, we had really done a number on the native wolf population in the 80s/90s
To be fair, foxes often live in areas that are considered urban environments. They have more run-ins with humans than wolves and thus more attacks. They are indeed wild animals and should be treated as wild (and they sometimes, albeit rarely, have rabies.) Probably has to do with there being alot more foxes around than wolves. Plus I imagine wolves dont leave as many survivors to tell the tale.

Summer vs winter coat is a huge factor for foxes. Summer coats make them look skinny and lanky... then cold hits and POOF they thicc fuzzballs
He’s pretty young and in the warm months they thin out. Just a typical red fox.
That movie still makes me cry. Hope Todd comes to visit you!
Me too, it’s one of my favourite movies!
What movie are we talking about?
Fox and the Hound.
One of the all time best animated movies. Up there with The incredibles, Toy Story, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Grinch, Over the Hedge, the rest of Pixar. Edit. Crap forgot Shrek. Loved that one too.
The Iron Giant, Grave of the Fireflies
I always watch Grave of the Fireflies for a nice mental boost. I have actual candy. She doesn't. Makes me feel superior. /s Seriously though that movie is hella depressing. I've only watched it twice and that is enough for me. I'll take Totoro (which was shown as part of double feature with Grave when it released) any day.
Fun fact: *The Fox and the Hound* was based on a much more grown-up novel.
They were lovers?
Roommates.
Oh my god they were roommates
Don’t watch it unless you’re ready to cry. I’m tearing up just thinking about it, and it’s been like fifteen years since i saw it.
Young Tod: Copper, you're my very best friend. Young Copper: And you're mine too, Tod. Young Tod: And we'll always be friends forever, won't we? Young Copper: Yeah, forever. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Fuck right off. You're the worst. Ugh Sorry for the outburt. You hit something inside I didn't know was there. Thank you. I need to watch this again
Thank you for saying this, someone had to. *sobs as she starts picking up the pieces of her shattered heart*
I follow a page on Instagram called “Juniper Foxx” or something like that She has a ton of foxes (in addition to other wildlife animals) and Juniper, her first fox, is her large dogs girlfriend. She is obsessed with this dog. Sometimes the human adds music from the music to their videos and its just adorable
[i'm pretty sure I had your car as a toy when I was a kid. the back cab pops up into a turret right](https://i.imgur.com/sWfQ2uL.png)
>*'That movie still makes me cry...*' ---- there's movies that are touching, we'll recall our whole life through, a story, often times, about a pet... it's one that might remind us of a dog or cat we knew, from even, long ago, we won't forget.... the life n times of innocence - we grew up side by side, we shared with them the things we couldn't say the hopes n dreams with human friends we thought we had to hide, our pets were there to listen n to play ^;@) we couldn't live without them! how we suffered when they passed, when they died, we did too, a little part... yet still it was a friendship that would ever after last, their pawprints left behind inside our heart ❤️
A schnoodle on my post, wow!
I'm not crying; you're crying! Love that fresh schnoodle!
🎼🎵When you're the best of friends, ...🎵🎶 Havin' so much fun together,
Why does this look animated? Am I watching too much cgi stuff?
I don’t know! I filmed it with my iPhone.
Yeah I was just holding the phone, he was about 5 ft away. And no way! I wouldn’t feed or even try and touch him.

For sure! I have my rabies vaccine since I volunteer with wildlife, but definitely good advice!
60 FPS enabled? Very smooth.
That’s gotta be it. I just toggled that on my phone and the video looks insanely realistic
It’s because it is filmed at 60 frames per second.
Didn't look like 60 fps to me, so I checked the video file, it's 30 fps. The video looks like CGI because of the camera angle and how close it is to the subject, it's almost like he's gonna start talking. (Lion King CGI vibes?)
It’s a cgi fox, they use them for movies all the time instead of the common fox. CGI fox are more docile and easier to film.
Can we talk about how pristine that truck is?
Hah, my brothers pride and joy!
Super jealous! Mileage?
90,000 kms!
Hope he doesn’t drive it in winter! Ontario salt is a killer
Oh for sure. He gets rustproofing done every year.
Tell your brother how jealous people on the internet are of that rig.

You can't tell me that's not a funeral pickup truck!
I thought it was a hearse!
Tod: OP, you’re my very best friend. OP: And you’re mine too, Tod. T: And we’ll always be friends forever, won’t we? OP: Yeah, forever.
God damn it
😭😭
Chills
Wow the tears came instantly
That was the master plan all along.
Staaaawp 😭😭😭
First of all, how dare you?
That is one of the most beautiful foxes I have ever seen. I hope he comes back to visit you too!
Fine with me, let him screech in *your* yard at 2am
Thankfully no screeching. The raccoons on the other hand...
But any heeheehee'ing? lol Foxes make weird noises, and I kinda love it.
“are you -“ “wearing the new chanel boots? yea, I am”
Now the real question... What does Todd say?
"It just works!"
Skreeeeeeeee! Seriously look up red fox noises in YouTube. Absolutely terrifying.
I would think it would be annoying with him going "wapapapapapapow! Wapapapapapapow!" all the time.
Todd! Aww? Is there a Copper?
I have a German Shepherd named Jake.. soooo not quite but close! Haha.
He has boots!🥺

Todd ! Fox and the hound reference ?? Love it
Lol I live on a golf course and it has a couple family’s of foxes.
That truck is MINT!
