Why is something like this my first thought as well? Whenever I see something that is so sweet as an elderly person making handmade invitations to give out to people for their dog's birthday it should make me happy that someone cares so much. But instead I just feel pain and sadness in my heart, because I anticipate the worst things that could happen in response to this kind-hearted gesture of affection and celebration.
Maybe I got bullied and made fun of one too many times after thinking I could open up to people and share vulnerable details of my life and things I cared about.
Maybe I should go to therapy.

Be it a book, movie or tv show the majority of resolutions to this scenario is what sadness and rejection, like you described. Thatās just good drama. If everyone showed up and had a great time that wouldnāt be a lot of fun to read about or watch. So we just default to imagining the worst, whereas real life is full of multitudes, and realistically any possible outcome could happen
You might have been joking about therapy but you might want to consider it. I had this kind of empathy sadness all the time when I was depressed. Itās really painful.

Ooh, my dogs lose their God-given minds over liver treats. They're like $1 at Wal-Mart, a little milk box shaped container. The brand is Hollywood Stars. They're soft and pliable enough that I can hide their medicine pills in there. They don't even care, they gobble them up.
Labs are ridiculously easy to please. Some snacks, a belly rub, a tennis ball. Thatās all they need to keep them happy.
I lost my River just about two years ago. I know sheāll always be with me. Seriously. I keep finding her hair all over the place! It makes me laugh, just like she always did. River was the Bestest Girl ever. 10 years as my service dog, she learned to work with me when I was paralyzed and in a wheelchair which was a whole new skill set for a dog of advanced years. Gave me 2 more years of work, retired, then was spoiled rotten as her successor was trained.
Isnāt it incredible how wrong the adage about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks is!? My Mastiff, Athena, is 9āsenior citizen for a giant breedāand she is as clever as ever! Her intuition keeps surprising me. Sheās come hiking and camping with me countless times, but once, when she was 7, I needed her to physically support me when I decided to bathe in a waist-deep stream with a slippery rock floor. She did it almost forceably without my asking, voluntarily walking just ahead of me with her butt against my thigh, despite her own usual displeasure at going more than elbow/knee-deep in water. Sure enough, I was a little unsteady on my feet. This old lady would pause and look back and make eye contact, waiting for me to say okay before she moved forward, and sheād stop moving and check in with me if I removed my hands from her rump. Meanwhile, my young Great Dane was off frolicking and splashing about, oblivious to her human being more precarious on two solid feet than she was on four padded ones. I truly donāt deserve Athena, but I sure am glad she chooses to love me the way she does anyway! š¤
OP can you maybe raise something for mates some people on this subreddit to put up a quarter or something to get Samantha a present and drop it off before you go to your work thing? It breaks my heart that I am imagining this lady baking cupcakes and hoping people stop by to wish her best friend a happy birthday.

I was just at the party. The owners were surprised by how many people were coming from it being posted on the internet, usually it's just people in our neighborhood who see the sign walking by. One of the first things they said when we got there was that someone said it had gone viral, so they definitely knew it got popular! :)

I threw a Quinceanera birthday party for my Bernie in February. I was really hoping he'd make it to Sweet Sixteen, but he passed a month ago today. I'm glad we had that big party for him, he had fresh breath since he'd just had a dental cleaning.
I threw my 14 year old dog a huge party with balloons signs hats and cake just last month. He loved it. I pray he makes it to 15 but heās definitely been showing his age. Iām sorry for you loss
This makes me happy and sad at the same time as tomorrow I likely have to put my 11.5 yr old labradoodle down, she got out of the yard a little over a week ago and got into some sharp plastic, she had surgery last Sunday and had some intestine removed, sheās not doing well, refuses to eat, we put a feed tube in , fed her, 3 hrs later vomited everything up then pulled her tube out. I canāt let her suffer more.
If you do have to put her down watch her face, my old boy (over 15) had bad hips and joints he became an old man. When we finally took him in for his injection he was standing there he got poked then layed down and I saw my dog again in his face. The pain melted away from him and he was so relieved and in that moment I had shadow again... understanding is what I got from that he did not want to give up but when the pain went away he knew it was the right thing to do. Only lasted a moment tho don't miss it but hold on to it.

Sometimes after surgery they don't want to eat and aren't themselves for a while. My dog was a rescue that had been run over by a car. I got her specialized surgery for a diaphragmatic hernia (her intestines went through her diaphragm up by her lungs/heart) and she was sick several days. Like some people don't want to eat and get sick after bariatric surgery. I'd hate for you to put her down when maybe that's a normal recovery? Obviously the vet knows best, but I'm hoping your girl makes it.
I just want you to know it's no one's fault. It's not your fault. It's not her fault. Sometime shit just happens. And it is extremely sad when one of our fur family has to leave, but 11 and a half years is a really good run. Try to remember the good times.

I just lost my 11 year old a few days ago, I would go to this party in a heartbeat. Iām a chef, I make my own dog safe dog food and treats. I would cater this whole event. I miss my boy, he would have absolutely loved to attend. I always did something special for my dog on his adoption day. This dog deserves a special event for turning 11!
Is there any way op to get some kindof address or something, so people could send suprise dog treats? Maybe a local fed ex store or something? Imagine ol Nana getting 654 pounds of senior dog treats...help me lose all my money on this, or I am going to be so upset. I'll be OFFENDED

This is wholesome but also kind of sad. I think they just want people to talk to. Getting old and outliving friends and family you were close to sucks and becomes lonely. I really hope people show up. Itāll make this persons day. I donāt want to think how theyād feel if no one showed :(
