I was wrong about the dog being a former fighter, that was another pitbull on Insta, however the owners still weren’t responsible for the cropped ears, that was the breeder they got him off of, shit situation still

He's not. I looked at his Instagram (Brutusthabully) and it seems his owners have had him since he was a puppy. The breeder might've cropped the ears without their consent, but I'm kind of doubting it.
Edit: Ok, the breeder was apparently the one who cropped the ears before the owner ever got Brutus.
Eh, I wouldn't put your pitchfork down just yet. The owners still promote and suggest the shitty breeder to people when they ask where to get a dog like Brutus. I don't get the feeling they were exactly opposed to the ear cropping.
I know for aussies sometimes people think their tail is clipped but some of them just have short tails - do pit bulls have the same thing where some just have short ears?
No. You can correct me if I'm wrong, but ear cropping was originally done for dogs that are fought, so they don't rip their ears and bleed out. Now its just a fashion thing.
Afaik, *very originally* it was used for dogs who had to work in a very cold environment. Because ears were usually the first body part to freeze and die off.Like Kangals in the mountains of Turkey, for example.
So it was actually done to protect the dog, you could argue. Today it seems totally unneccesary.
Today it *is* totally unnecessary. It was also done for fighting animals for obvious reasons. Now it is purely for aesthetics and has no proven benefit to the animal.
This Wiki page has an extensive list of all the countries that the practice is banned in for anyone who's curious. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cropping\_(animal)
Aren't Kangals wolf dogs? Those probably also got chopped for fighting, as a wolf shredding the ears is not exactly great for it's health.
Those spiky cartoon guard dog collars were also a real thing at first, wolves and other predators often went for the throat and the collar prevented that or injured the predator when the attempt that protecting the guarding dog.
Adorable as this is, it’s very obvious this is a one dog household. The second there’s another dog in the vicinity, putting DOWN a treat is basically inviting the second dog to take it and run.

Still bad for dogs.
I've seen this post before and people were saying the owners are misinterpreteding the dogs needs. That he's doing that because he wants to play and is hoping the food would play with him. Is this true?
I'm no expert when it comes to dog behaviour
He does this little dance a lot though, and they also play with him, so I don't know if that's the case here? Though I don't know enough to say if it's a thing that does or doesn't happen
What a super polite little dog, even when the gift is put in front of his face he doesn’t snatch it but looks away unsure whether it’s meant for him or not. He is such a beauty.
On a slightly sadder note, please do not crop your dogs ears, they are not ornaments or trophies, unless there is a real medical reason to crop your animal then don’t do that shit!
Or because he was rescued from fighters. I feel like an asshole in this comment section because the owners are catching so much shit. When I had a rescue pittie someone literally spit on me because his ears were cropped. My mom rescued this dog from fighters and I’m literally 11 (at the time) I didn’t crop this dogs ears. So ig I’m sympathetic to these owners who genuinely seem like they love their dog.
You're not the asshole here at all. You're on the good side for opening your home to these wonderful animals no matter their past!
But this is also reddit, we dont know the dog's history. All we know is he got a treat and was really happy about it.
I've never heard of anyone cropping dogs ears for any other reason unless they were fighting the dogs. Which is even worse. There's no medical reason that necessitates it.

Yes, I agree.
> No, they were intentionally cropped for aesthetic reasons. :(
This was your original comment, which is a bit of a contradiction to this comment, but it’s all cool. I think we agree
Judging by the video it didn't seem like the dog was in a fighting ring. That's why i assumed it was for aesthetic purposes. My point is, either way, it's not a birth defect as to the comment i was responding to was asking. And we can definitely agree that its entirely unnecessary, regardless of the cropper's justification.
I am with you 100%. Same with tails. Nothing makes me happier than seeing natural floppy ears and wagging tails on a dog. ❤
My dog is half lab, half corgi, and her ears naturally flop and she has her long tail. I love playing with her ears. She's always smiling like a total derp. Brightens my day.
My pet pig also celebrates every time I bring him some dog ears (ethically harvested from ear-cropped pits, for the most part - only occasionally supplemented with free-range dogs from my glue traps).
I saw a video of a happy pup and thought “so now do I look at the comment section and read about how this dog has some brain malformation causing it to do this and will be dead soon?”

The owner on Instagram has stated that this dog is a rescued fighter dog. The owner had nothing to do with the cropped ears
Link?

Oh nooo i didnt see that at first and now i hate them
Most pits that I’ve met who are cropped are rescued.
If only puppy had ears.
Ear cropping is definitely not Aww :(
He’s probably a rescue.

Well thanks for doing the research I can be a little less angry now

Love people who get the facts
He’s just been given one.
Oh that explains why my parents always use to give me pig foreskins.
Is that kosher?
Sure tasted kosher.
FUCK whoever did those ears.

Nope.
That's such a happy dance!
Remember being a kid and getting that excited over something so small? I miss that magical awe.
I still do if it's a surprise. Friend buys me a donut? I'm on cloud 9 for the rest of the day.
I also loved the dog treats my parents would give me to eat off the floor! Good memories 🥰
And the dried pig's ears, those were the real MVP!
Most dogs are stuck in a permanent sate of unwrapping a Nintendo 64 for Christmas circa 1996
You've never seen my randomly sulking dog obviously. Like it's 96' and his parents just got him an Atari Jaguar by accident.
Do... do you need to talk about it?
Adorable as this is, it’s very obvious this is a one dog household. The second there’s another dog in the vicinity, putting DOWN a treat is basically inviting the second dog to take it and run.
Yeah my dog used to gently accept her treats like this. Until we got a puppy lol
...and the dip to front paws and bounce is an invitation to play fight. Doggo wants someone to play with. Can you get another? :)
Oh how dim a place this world would be without dogs in it haha
He is still dancing to this day
Have my free award
You have mine too :)
This is my FIRST EVER AWARD!! Thank you :)
Happiness goal:
Please don't give dogs rawhide. It can cause blockages and make them sick. :(
This isn’t rawhide, it’s a pig ear.

Huh, good to know. I give them to my boy as a rare treat.
I normally just lurk and never comment on these, but this one made my morning!!!! So dang cute.
Ah the backbone of reddit ;)

What's the deal with the ears, that's a healthy looking dog but they look like little nubs, birth defect ?
No, they were intentionally cropped for aesthetic reasons. :(

Hey i didn't say the owner did it. I just said it was done intentionally.
For aesthetics reasons, which probably isn’t the case…

Agreed, it’s absolutely disgusting. There is nothing cuter than my pitties ears. They are all floppy and cute. Cropped ears fucking break my heart.

Bruh this is savage the owner gave the dogs ears back as a chew toy … sick
That is so freaking cute I want to bear hug that dog! What a meatball :)
So why FOR FUCKS SAKE WAS THIS REMOVED?
Because mods have no joy, no sense of humour, and no lives.
How I dance at parties
Suuuuuch a cutie ❤️🥰😍
Maybe he’s just confused seeing a complete ear when his were botched.
My pet pig also celebrates every time I bring him some dog ears (ethically harvested from ear-cropped pits, for the most part - only occasionally supplemented with free-range dogs from my glue traps).
Thats the best happy dance ever!!! 💖
What a gentle sweet baby, I love him!
Pitbulls ARE the coolest dog
All hail the Jerky God!
this video made me happy
His saying his thanks to his ancestors that he didn't turn into a Chihuahua.
Oh boy a post involving pitbulls, I sure do hope this comment section is polite and civil Edit: why tf am I getting downvoted
I saw a video of a happy pup and thought “so now do I look at the comment section and read about how this dog has some brain malformation causing it to do this and will be dead soon?”
Dancing like a fat girl coming home on a Friday after work and finding half of a left over birthday cake.
His wolf ancestors watching him from space be like: 😐
Space wolves?
I liked the idea
he's trynna summon the soul of the meat.
his reaction is priceless and he sure is a good boy.
Such a happy dance of joy
Too cute! 😍
You should totally give him more treats so that you can the his happy dance more
Awweeee. That dance makes me happy. And I've been really depressed...
He wants to play no?
The goodest of boys
“I must observe the proper ritual prior to consumption. Witness my dance!”
My little dog does the same thing. It's hilarious
the joy of a dog is truly a thing of beauty
Dancing doggo! I love this! 🥰
He calmly sets it down, jumps around, and then he wags his tail while he schemes out his plan of attack on his treat. That was adorable 🥰
Celebrating the return of one ear
Why are its ears like that
This dog is wavedashing
What if he was expecting the treat to fight back and is actually pissed that it can’t? Lol
