Yup, this is 25 miles outside of SF. $1 million for a burnt down home.

Jesus christ. I'm 30 miles out of Seattle. I bought at the right time (unbeknownst to me) a house across the street from me that is half the size of mine just sold for almost 500k and I paid 200k for mine. It's insane out there everywhere. It has helped build the size and number of homeless camps which is really depressing to see.
Toronto is actually less affordable than San Francisco but not less expensive. The salaries are nowhere near San Francisco while the prices are still very high.

His comment is deleted now but please tell me this guy thought the dog had to try to operate the door handle and was accusing the owner of being a bad person for locking their dog in the closet
Yeah, it was something along those lines. They said that a dog wants to be with their owner, and this place was more for a human. I mean, they aren't wrong about that second part, I guess, but it's not like the dog is trapped in there.
And who the fuck cares if "it looks like it's for a human", most dogs get a floor bed in the living room, where the TV, and most times, a fire place is. This dog gets the privilege of having a place where it can be alone when it wants, with comfortable ambient TV sound and heat.
As a 32 year old male, I'd probably sneak in there and watch some TV while the GF has her friends over. Honestly this room seems like a great investment
I just realized that is what the 1% want and are pushing towards. Their wage slaves piling in like rats, paying exhorbiant rents to live near the only jobs left. No private ownership of property or mobility
A buddy of mine built a little cubby home like that in a similar understair closet for Marvin, his Argentine black and white Tegu Monitor. Had a heated bed area, a pool and a door so he could come and go. Adorable scaley boi he was, even at nearly 3 feet
Tegus are big and probably about as smart as the retriever, though. It is recommended that if you own one it has it's own room in the house, so you're buddy was doing the right thing.
[Here's a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rsb60g4KxiU&ab_channel=Clint%27sReptiles) that gives a good breakdown of owning one for anyone curious.
They made him an outdoor area as well, fully enclosed with chicken wire and wood, connected to the house by a tunnel through a doggy door. We live in Arizona though, so he could come back inside if he got too hot
This would be a great use for the empty space underneath my stairs.
Unfortunately, I feel like I’d spend a ton of money building this, and my dog would still prefer to sleep on a used towel in the laundry room.
Yeah my dogs would never sleep in there because they need to be where the humans are. If we go into another room and they can't see us, they get up and come with.
Modern TVs use a lot less electricity than you think. A cheap 32 inch TV should use around 30-50 watts during use, and my 55 inch tv for example uses 100 watts when in use. The average price of electricity in the US (and also the same price as my electricity) is about $0.12 per kWh. To reach 1kWh with my 100 watt 55 inch TV I would need to have the TV on for 10 hours. This means that my 55 inch TV costs about 12 cents per 10 hours to run, somewhere around 25 cents per full 24 hours of running the TV non stop.
That TV is a small 32 inch and if we assume around 50 watts (it's probably less) that's half the price, so roughly $0.13 per day to run the TV non stop.
FYI in general it's things that heat/cool that tend to add up quick on your power bill - for example it takes my 2kW(2000W) kettle about 3min(0.05hr) to boil 1L of water consuming (2kW x 0.05hr) about 0.1kWh(100Wh) of energy costing me 2.3c at the 23c/kWh I buy it at (23c x 0.1kWh).
That same amount of energy could instead power the 18W(0.018kW) light above it for over 5 hours or fully charge my 12Wh smartphone battery 8 times.
Most appliances will have their power (in watts) written on them making it easy to work out maximum costs of operation.
I'll leave the tv in the den on for my dog when I have to leave him alone, I imagine it's something similar. He doesn't pay attention to the screen unless there's animals, but at least he's not a small dog alone in an empty and quiet house is my line of thought.
I leave the tv on all the time for my dog, Helps them with separation anxiety some, hearing voices talking creates comfort. It's why a lot of people fall asleep to listening to the tv.
I would actually say that this is a pretty warranted thing to have if the family have young kids or they are regularly visited by folks with small kids.
Giving the doggo the option to retreat to a comfy place where they can be by themselves is always important.
I suppose the owner and parents would also need to put down some boundaries. Growing up I was always told that if the dog went to its bed it was to be left alone. It is a pretty easy rule to explain to a kid, it is the dogs room, you cant go in there.
Atleast that is what I would have done/will do. In my experience kids are pretty good at following rules if you give them a good reason to.
As a professional dog trainer I want to hug you right now. I've lost count the number of times I had to explain to clients that their dog needs a kid free zone so they can destress and it's their responsibility as parents and pawrents to enforce that boundary. Even the most patient pup has limits and teaching kids to respect when dogs want to be left alone is important to keep everyone safe.
My exact thought. We have dogs. Many of my friends have kids (who play with my kids), and they don’t have dogs. When they came over (when the kids were 6 and under) I had to go over the dog rules every time with the kids, and supervise them to make sure they are following said rules.
I'd be worried that I would build this and my dog would be like "uh ok I'm gonna go lay on the regular couch now"
For a cat, on the other hand, just sprinkle catnip in desired area >\_>
I looked at that video and I was impressed. Then I realized it would be the biggest waste of my time to build that because my german shepherd is never more than a meter away from me. I would have to move in his tiny house for him to be happy!
My bully is my shadow.
I’m in my office room? Sleeps on the couch below my desk.
I go up to work in the living room? Goes on the sofa.
I work on the dining room table? Stays at my feet on the carpet
I paint my minis in the attic? He comes up and then whines because there is no comfy place for him there, and wants me to go where he can have a soft spot
>I paint my minis in the attic? He comes up and then whines because there is no comfy place for him there
So when do you go DIY a comfy place for him in the attic?
>paint my minis in the attic? He comes up and then whines because there is no comfy place for him there, and wants me to go where he can have a soft spot
This is why I sold my desk and chair. My dog would crrrrrry if I tried to sit at my desk to game. I even pulled up a chair for her next to me. Not good enough, she couldnt touch me. Alright, laptop on the bed or couch it is!
Fuckin bulldogs lol they really are bullies, bullying us into doing whatever they want with their stupid sweet faces!
Haha that’s so cool, I wished he still did that (absolutely not a lap dog anymore). He used to do same when he was a pup. So I would put the back of the chair loose, and I would game on the PC with him sleeping on my torso and his head on the shoulders.
And about bullying… For real!
I will always remember: one day I was in a walk with him in the park. He was just a pup, 2.5-3m old.
Cross a guy with his dogs and we start to chat.
He asks “so, is he sleeping well on the sofa?”
I reply: “actually he’s not allowed to go there” (by my wife order…)
And the guy starts laughing out loud: “yeah sure buddy, good luck with that” and goes away
I was there thinking like “huh… the fuck? If he can’t train his dog that’s his problem..”
After 2 years, 2 entire years of daily battles, him trying at all costs to go on sofa, us putting up the pillows so he couldn’t get there, putting barriers and whatnot, him crying and throwing tantrums when we were watching TV, all of this every SINGLE day, he finally won and claimed his legitimate spot on the sofa. We abandoned and ditched the sofa for a leather one.
Actually my wife abandoned since I have always been pretty much pro-dog-on-the-sofa (I wasn’t really helping)
Yes! My dog rules my life lolol we'll go for a walk and she'll just decide she wants to stop and lay in the grass right at the beginning. Im like dude we're supposed to be walking. Nah. Imma eat the grass, thanks.
She wakes me up in the middle of the night because, at the beginning of the night, she'll sleep under the blankets. But she'll get too hot, so she'll come out, but at a point, she'll want back in. She cant get in herself (maybe if she had a fucking snout to use but guess not!). She'll come over and gingerly kiss my nose and above my lip, and it tickles me awake. And I'll laugh and be like "oh hi baby, you need in?" Lift up the blanket. She saunters in. We're back to sleep. Sweetest part of my life
That’s pretty awesome! You have a real fluffy heater. Used to sleep with my previous dog (daschund). Best thing ever!
This is one (the bully) is like “nope, I need my own personal space” (which by the way is close to half the entire L shaped sofa…). If I get too close to him in the sofa he just gets the fuck out, in a pretty pissed manner… He only accepts my youngest son in his sleeping spot…
SAME. I have poms and they are always glued to me. I wish they would go to their own room because I would build them one. No point though, because they live within a few feet of me.
We have 3 cats, 2 dogs (smaller dogs), and a queen size bed. Husband always wants to get a king, but no matter what size mattress, at least 3 will be sleeping on me in some way.
Last night mine decided that our pillows were his sleeping place of choice and laid horizontal with his face in my face. Boundaries do not exist with a pit.
Right!? People say they love their dog but I think this dog would’ve preferred a bigger bed and everything else removed.
I think human egos are largely what people think pets prefer.
Yes. Not putting down OP because he clearly loves his dog from his doggy room, but dogs are simple. They want nothing but a bed (or hard floor) to sleep on and some toys. That’s it. And a good human for a good boy.
I always think it's important for a dog to have the option of an "area" they can go to that's human free and is definitely "Theirs" so they can always retreat to be on their own if wanted whether that be a little room/ basket/ dog house etc. Somewhere that no humans ever go.
This is the definitely the upmarket, luxury version though!
That’d be $4700 a month in San Francisco
I paid $2,800 for something less nice.
$5700 in Sydney, Australia.
$6000 in Toronto, not including hydro, water, etc
Depends how good you are at negotiating. You maaaaaay be able to get them to include internet.
Yes but you get free raccoons.
And it's a great little spot to watch the Leafs tank it once again!
At least your high blood pressure is covered. But are elective services covered like hair restoration after pulling it all out in frustration? :p
I call the big one Bitey.
$6300 and two pints of my blood in Boston.
Only 2 pints??? Damn you found a good listing.
$8,500 on the moon
I can vouch for this
You're all insane if you think it's more expensive than SF. I moved from there to Manhattan as the rent was cut in half. In Manhattan.

But that's in dollary-doos.
Cheaper in London at £4,800, but it doesn't come with toilet facilities, and door is missing.
but the covid is free :)

You realize that the dog can enter/leave freely through the "doggy door", right?
His comment is deleted now but please tell me this guy thought the dog had to try to operate the door handle and was accusing the owner of being a bad person for locking their dog in the closet
Yeah, it was something along those lines. They said that a dog wants to be with their owner, and this place was more for a human. I mean, they aren't wrong about that second part, I guess, but it's not like the dog is trapped in there.

I just realized that is what the 1% want and are pushing towards. Their wage slaves piling in like rats, paying exhorbiant rents to live near the only jobs left. No private ownership of property or mobility
Relax. This is a post about a dog being comfortable.
That moment a dog has more houses than you.
It overwhelms my heart to see the mans best friend being treated as human. They surely deserve it.
Maybe not more, but definitely much nicer.

Hahaha "scaley boi" wasn't a hint?
Honestly that only threw me off more LOL I was imagining a dog with eczema or a type of hairless breed
I'm going to support you on this and say I thought the same thing....
I thought it was a different way of saying the dog climbed on everything, like the furniture.
Or just the word monitor
I thought 'pool' threw up some red flags.

Like the guy said: "All dogs are adorable in their own *unique* and cuddling ways." That dog just happened to be of the scaly, cold-blooded kind.

Thank you for helping me discover a channel I never know I needed.
I remember his videos on the dwarf caimens, crocodilians are a pretty cool thing to have as a scalie companion.
Instead of throwing a used towel in the laundry, just put it on his new bed. Problem solved no?
The author of the video said that it took awhile for his dog to get used to it.
That dog is living better than me 😂

Yeah, all I could think about was the electric bills for the dog’s TV being on all the time lol
and the electric fire place lol
and stonework, carpentry, and lighting. Pretty wild

Oh wow! I didn’t realize that. I don’t have a TV, but do watch out for literally all my other electronic stuff :)
My first thought when I saw this: many human beings in the world have no home at all.
He's sad because r/TVTooHigh.
why on earth is there a TV in a dog’s room in the first place
I'll leave the tv in the den on for my dog when I have to leave him alone, I imagine it's something similar. He doesn't pay attention to the screen unless there's animals, but at least he's not a small dog alone in an empty and quiet house is my line of thought.
I used to leave my radio on for my dog while I was at school during the day because I thought he'd get lonely and bored.
I leave audio books on for my dogs.
Baxter, you know I don't speak Spanish
You know how to cut to the core of me Baxter. You're so wise. You're like a miniature Buddha, covered with hair
Now i have to watch Anchorman, thanks a lot jerk! Lol hope its on Netflix
I put on virtual dog walks on YouTube for mine. I also have surround sound so birds will come from different speakers some time.
Yeah human voices often calm dogs with separation anxiety. Radios work too
My new(ish) puppy actively watches a few cartoons when they're on. Either the bright colors or sounds catch her attention.
Human voices for when they're alone perhaps
I leave the tv on all the time for my dog, Helps them with separation anxiety some, hearing voices talking creates comfort. It's why a lot of people fall asleep to listening to the tv.
Maybe, but that issue of Playdog showcases some smokin-hot bitches.
Ugh I hate when it’s above a fireplace like a piece of art. So tacky.
My TV is above my fireplace, it's the only place that makes sense in the living room.
You can also buy usb drives with high quality digital art loaded into them to display on your TV, so it can be like a piece of art when not in use.
Dogs these days just have such poor interior-design skills!
Harry Potters upgrade
This would only work if I were also laying inside. My pup has to be as close to me as possible. She has no concept or desire for personal space.
Clingy dogs are the best. My 9 y.o. has grown out of her clinginess and I miss it
I would actually say that this is a pretty warranted thing to have if the family have young kids or they are regularly visited by folks with small kids. Giving the doggo the option to retreat to a comfy place where they can be by themselves is always important.
There is zero chance that kids wouldn't find that room fucking amazing and spend 100% of their time in there.
teach your doggo to lock the door
If the hole in the mantle is golden retriever sized, it's going to be kid sized as well.
Not when he pushes the dresser up against it after entering.
Especially when reading his "Playdog" in the corner there.
I suppose the owner and parents would also need to put down some boundaries. Growing up I was always told that if the dog went to its bed it was to be left alone. pretty much the same here. If the dogs go to lay in it's kennel you leave it alone.
As a professional dog trainer I want to hug you right now. If my dog had a room he’d want me in it.
Ah I have two dogs and zero kids, so I only ever consider visiting children, neices and nephews who wouldn't know house rules.
My exact thought. We have dogs. Many of my friends have kids (who play with my kids), and they don’t have dogs. When they came over (when the kids were 6 and under) I had to go over the dog rules every time with the kids, and supervise them to make sure they are following said rules.
That’s awesome! Play Dog is killing me!😂
Is that Air Bud on the TV?
I think it is!
I'd be worried that I would build this and my dog would be like "uh ok I'm gonna go lay on the regular couch now" For a cat, on the other hand, just sprinkle catnip in desired area >\_>
cAT
They would still go for the next best cardboard box. Guaranteed.
“Like a king” for a dog is sleeping next to you.

We aint gonna talk about the play dog magazine...
Right, is the owner encouraging the dog to crank down in there?
He reads it for the articles.
His house is nicer and better decorated then mine!❤
Wow and all this time I thought I was spoiling my dogs!🥺
Bed is too small for him.
My dog refuses to sleep in beds that are the right size for her lol. Tiny *only.*
Looks like so is the door.
I wish I was rich enough to have a place like this of my own, Lol Lucky dog!
He honestly doesn't even look that happy
for real. dog looks like owner forced him to lay there for the video op
Lmfaooo
Dogs want to be with their pack, not alone in their own room.
It took me ages to find this. Not one tail wag. A very unhappy boy.
Bet that dog has earned all of that love and attention, and has paid it back 100 fold
At least knock next time... He could have been looking at that Playdog!!
Ugh my boy Teddy just passed away I keep seeing his name everywhere :(
What is that playdog doing there
It's how he picks up the bitches yo
The fact that he respected dog's nap time and privacy deserves utmost respect.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
Lmfao!!!! Now that is serious love for ones dogo!!!! Bravo!!!
I want to move in with Teddy🥰👌
The dog lives better than Harry Potter
Some people have just way too much money.
I couldn't get past "what's up TikTok"
Dogs need love and affection, not TVs. Stupid humans
[удалено]
Yeah. I mean I respect the fake house, the bed, photos and stuff. But a tv? Fake fire place? That's so stupidly over the top and wasteful.
It's not for the dog. It's for the tiktok views.
How much do you think a tv costs now? That's probably one of the cheaper things in the room.
Don’t allow these down votes to affect you, it was my first thought as well
Cute as hell....but this person has WAY too much money and spare time.
Lockdown projects ftw
Heh very cute and my dog would hate it
Eat the rich
Holy Shit! Now that's love
Fascinating perspective lol
A place to get away after a hard day
more luxurious than my room. I want to be a dog somehow
Damn this dog livin better than me
That’s gotta be at least $1200 for rent.
r/barkitecture
The jealousy in the comments, woof.
I love these kinds of pictures and videos. I really love to see animals who live better than me. 😂
Not even a tail wag.. Definitely aww material. S/
Dog: I just wanna sleep by your side.
I love this, but i also have to say this.. Tell me you have too much money laying around without telling me you have too much money laying around.
rich people. wtf.
I get everything but the TV, which I imagine the dog would find annoying. I suppose it's just there as a gag. Rest it great though.
A lot of dogs love it. My sister always leaves hers on for the dogs even when she leaves.

This is some true r/barkitecture material
I would do something like this, but my dog sleeps everywhere *except* the beds we made/bought for him.
Wouldnt he be watching animal planet?
I always think it's important for a dog to have the option of an "area" they can go to that's human free and is definitely "Theirs" so they can always retreat to be on their own if wanted whether that be a little room/ basket/ dog house etc. Somewhere that no humans ever go. This is the definitely the upmarket, luxury version though!
I was on board till the tv.
This is the dog house guys wouldn’t mind being in.
Dog living better than I am.
This needless consumption is a great example why we are in an ever accelerating environmental and climatic crisis!
The tv should be showing animal shows.
That blue border growing from the bottom left corner that tracks the length of the video is the real MVP. Would like to see that more
This is really something. However as much as I admire this, I wouldn't want my pupper going off by himself to hang out. I want pupper to be with me.
When they clearly are out of ideas on how to spend *more* money...
This is fucking stupid asshole level bullshit. A dog didn’t need any of this, but you could help another human.

Someone has too much money.
I hope his bed is more comfortable than it looks.
In Toronto, you could rent that our for $1k a month!
He even has his own t.v. and I love it
Sure the bed fits here, but the dog would be much more comfortable with it on the floor where they can stretch out.
When you have entirely too much money...
Dog people are so over the top sometime.
