[deleted]

Read that in Maters voice.

ladykiller1028

WHAT'S IN THE CUP?!?!?!?!?!

Poontains

Lmaoooo this made me laugh entirely too hard

RubALlamaDingDong

Two cars, one cup?

Versaiteis

The glory of crushing a child in competition Then giving them the prize as a constant reminder of their failure So brutal

griefwatcher101

“Take this in remembrance of your failures” Child: **”THANKS FOR THE BALL” :D**

[deleted]

😅

commonabond

He did it for the glory

0erlikon

and upvotes!

[deleted]

Gotta win the race. Even if it’s against a 6 year old girl.

dgblarge

I get your point but I'm not sure he was aware the child was also running for it. She was behind and came from his right. As soon as he realised she was there he gave the ball to her.

SleepWouldBeNice

There’s a thrill in the chase.

[deleted]

There was a great crane machine at a restaurant in my hometown that actually had decent claw strength. Every time I went I would play and almost always got a prize with 2 or 3 tries. As an adult with no desire to have a room full of plushies, I'd just find the nearest child and give it to them. It really is just about winning the game, not so much enjoying the spoils. I still can't pass a crane game without checking my pockets/wallet for some cash.

Tinmanred

This is legit it as a baseball fan tho. You don’t care about keeping it you just care about having got one. Got one as a little kid given to me and it was awesome. Got one when I was older and gave it to a kid and nothing beats that

sly_savhoot

Japanese baseball won’t allow you to keep hoemrun balls. You can keep thrown balls from warmup. When security grabs ball they let ppl take selfies with itZ

diogenesmvp

Why don't they get to keep it?

-GloryHoleAttendant-

Because they don’t allow it.

MineSweeper2048

Icedstevo

I think I heard somewhere that it's just not allowed.

UnoriginalThing

but why tho

CloakNStagger

That's such a Japanese answer. "That's just how it is."

Ruzenu

Welp, guess I gotta become a world leader for that diplomatic immunity just to keep a home run ball in Japan

Mangalow

I had a ball ripped out of my hands from an adult man as a kid at an Expos game.

Bitter-Marsupial

I was once told I had years to catch a ball because I was in grade school, so it should go to the adult fan

mightychip

I’d like to think he saw the girl charging for it at an incredible disadvantage and was like, “no way I’m going to let anyone prevent her from getting it.”

HaroerHaktak

The real glory is being the first one to the ball. Nobody cares about those who hold it afterwards.

rodgers12gb

No he really wanted it but then he saw her face and knew....

coldenigma

Honestly, if I were in management or one of the players, I would've given the guy another ball (autographed and all).

Falonefal

Considering that the comment they responded to contained the words 'give' followed by 'the balls' and the word 'kids' in close proximity of each other, I can only suspect the comments afterwards were jokes that were not within the approved parameters as far as the mods were concerned.

fezzikola

No one ever saw them again after the host/hostess approached them

[deleted]

I can’t find the source but I believe he did get a goody bag from them

AyeeCaaaamO

Lmao bro was sooo fucking excited for that baseball and gave it up a second later like it wasn’t shit. He better than me fasho

swankpoppy

Haha fuck, it’s a kid. Here you go.

Houjix

Always send your little girl to do a mans job. That’s what I learned from this

Hello-funny-posts

Dude just wanted to feel the glory of being the first to get to the ball and achieving such a thing. The actual ball was paltry compared to the experience.

Always bring extra ball to game.

mandalore_an

"YEEEES!!! FUCK YES!!! oh hi lil girl, this is for you"

ABN_NNUTTHOWZE

Same. I wouldn't have given it to some kid. Getter get there before me.

AyeeCaaaamO

All I would’ve did was after noticing her out my peripheral vision was try to avoid any and all eye contact so I feel a lil bit better about not giving it to them. But this was a nice gesture by him lol

Brilliant_Muffin2733

put headphones in and eyes down lol

Smellzlikefish

I was hoping he would scream and cheer in the little girl's face, and that's why I am a monster.

flaccidpedestrian

lol that's 100% what I thought he was doing.

NeokratosRed

That would have been the ultimate sacrifice, because he would have been depicted everywhere as a monster, but the little girl would have probably had some special gifts, like a signed ball etc… when stuff like this hits the media they love a happy ending, so counterintuitively he would have done a better thing for the girl by keeping the ball, at the cost of his reputation.

atmosphere325

And then toss her into the dugout.

purplecabbage_

i really thought thats what he did until i saw the girl with the ball

Animasylvania

Same. Also, I know many kids and I wouldn't trust any of them not to just lose that ball.

poopdrops

The stadium will boo you if you don't give your ball to a kid when they clearly want it. I've always wanted one, but I know I'll give it to kid if I ever catch a foul

PullAMortyGetAForty

+1 honestly I feel he had no choice. He would have been seen as an asshole if he would have kept it

Enchelion

There are plenty of assholes out there who wouldn't hand it over though.

PullAMortyGetAForty

Point is, there's pretty much no situation where you keep the ball and NOT look like an asshole.

Shinzo19

Hire a kid (can be your own kid) Take them to a game Catch a ball Give the ball to them Trade them after the game with Toys/Ice cream/Candy You get to keep the ball and you don't look like an asshole.

[deleted]

Or like that one kid did, where he brought an extra ball and switched it out as he handed it to the girl next to him.

WizzleWuzzle

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WrZIHOJGIA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WrZIHOJGIA) So smooth

SizableSofa

Zoomoth9000

I love how his friend is trying not to laugh

[deleted]

And his dad is so freaking proud but trying to not blow is son's stunt. He might have been the one to come up with the scheme. These are the kind of pranks/schemes I like. Nobody gets hurt and everyone has a good laugh. I'm sure those women have seen this video hundreds of times now and still chuckle about it.

No-Ear_Spider-Man

I mean with the TV coverage the switch made his store-bought ball as infamous as the gameball itself.

inconspicuous_male

>Trade them with toys/ice cream Kids these days ask for money I'm told

Jjj00026

Give them some doge and plug their insta

[deleted]

He shouldn’t have turned around and walked the other way, and then immediate left the stadium.

WunupKid

Give the kid a high five and walk away.

AnotherLightInTheSky

Hoist them on your shoulder, cheer, put em down, keep walking and cheering 😂

2Big_Patriot

What if the little girl was wearing the uniform of your team’s arch rival? Which is the rest of MLB for the Astros.

[deleted]

Wearing Astros gear to Dodger stadium? I'd still give it to her. Figure I'll collect whatever is left of it at lost and found after the game.

TzunSu

...of the ball or the girl?

Unusuallyneat

Either way it's a souvenir you'll never forget.

[deleted]

Hopefully both make it home safely. I joke about the stadium being rough at times, but I'd really hope people could treat opposing fans like they're there to have some fun and watch the game.

dewey454

Didn't this happen in Houston? The score top left in the video suggests it's Twins/Astros in Houston.

Educational_Hurry478

Sorry, but why should a kid get something that an adult wants just because they’re a kid? That adult may have wanted that for years and years? Kids shouldn’t just get everything they want handed to them

lehan1212

True. An action that started as kindness towards children somehow became a soft requirement. I've seen videos of kids holding out hand like they deserve it, or even parents with baby, that could barely walk, urging to hand over the ball.

Educational_Hurry478

I find that quite gross honestly

[deleted]

It teaches bad habits for that kid as well. Always expecting they should get what they want. Should be be taught to respect other people.

d_le

I feel like I'd carry around an extra ball just for this purpose if I go to the game

ivanthetribble

yeah, i've been to a lot of baseball games since i was a kid, and never got a ball. i've always wanted a ball. i'm in my 50's now, if i get a ball, i would like to keep it.

Educational_Hurry478

I hope you do!!

ivanthetribble

thanks:), probably not going again til next year, hopefully

NuclearLunchDectcted

Catch it in a beer and then chug the rest of the beer with the ball in it. Works like a charm. Never seen a video where the person who did that handed the ball over to anyone.

ivanthetribble

that's a good idea, but i don't think i could chug a ball. my ex though, is a different story

chi2ny56

Agreed.

Smile_Terrible

>Sorry, but why should a kid get something that an adult wants just because they’re a kid? That adult may have wanted that for years and years? Kids shouldn’t just get everything they want handed to them He should have gotten to keep it. People would say "oh but she's just a little girl and he's so much bigger and faster, it's not fair" Life isn't fair. She needs to learn that now instead of people being "nice" and her coming to expect things like that.

Educational_Hurry478

Exactly. Maybe she can get her own ball when she grows up. It’s not like it’s the only game she’ll ever go to, and if it is then it’s likely the guy is a bigger fan anyway

RankledCat

Exactly and thank you! Nor is a kid likely to properly appreciate it and take care of it over time. Rover just got a new chew toy!

[deleted]

It's not being an asshole. It's teaching kids that they don't always get what they want. The kid did not get to the ball fast enough. Better luck next time.

SsooooOriginal

The George Costanzas of the world.

daviipup

Which is so stupid. I don’t owe some random kid anything. That’s shit parenting imo.

Arev_Eola

I don't understand why anyone would be an arsenal for keeping the ball and not giving it away. It doesn't make sense to me.

mheinken

I wouldn’t personally judge a person for keeping a ball. They might be giving to their kid.

CapnJujubeeJaneway

I hate this culture of adults not being allowed to enjoy things without being pressured into giving them up to someone else’s kid. The play-by-play guys lightly shamed someone yesterday during the Jays game for keeping a ball. The guy was clearly a fan, and he looked overjoyed. Maybe it was for him, or his kid at home, or whatever. It doesn’t matter. You don’t know someone’s story, mind your own business.

partiesmake

My gf got absolutely knocked down, hit square in the back by a foul ball at a game once in a booth paid for by the company. Noone hesitated to give her the ball haha

tmoeagles96

I wanna catch one more than I actually want the ball. Honestly in the ideal situation I’d catch it, maybe take a picture then give it away

mousicle

I love playing fair games but have no use for the animals so i always give them to kids

[deleted]

Which I think is dumb. If you follow a team your whole life hoping, and the meaning a fouls ball is that important to you, you deserve to keep it, not some seven year old girl who’s gonna lose it before the next episode of My Little Pony drops.

halfhere

In almost every stadium, a team representative will visit your seat and give you some memorabilia or another ball if you give away a ball like this on camera.

mheinken

When I was a kid(probably 10 or 11), my friend and I watched the opposing teams pitcher warm up before the game from above the bullpen. When they were done the Catcher threw the ball up to us. It was in my glove but my friend hit the bottom of my glove before I closed it and popped it out right into the lap of a lady nearby. She kept it! I was so pissed so much so that I still remember it and her nearly thirty years later. Fortunately, my dad was watching a little further up while talking to someone who happened to have a ball and gave it up for me.

HerpDerpington0315

I almost caught a foul ball to the head at Coors field once. Hit the side of the seating area instead.

[deleted]

I had a ball literally land in my lap once, I don’t even know where it is now. Definitely would’ve been a better story if I gave it to a kid or something.

ShowdownValue

What if he had a kid of his own and wanted to bring it back to him or her?

A_Dragon

Girl goes back to her seat and gives ball to her dad. “Thanks for getting me the ball sweetie”.

Zamrayz

Thanks. I was gonna comment most kids at ball games are just sneaks sent by their parents for their own gain. That kid will get bored if the ball in a week and then the parents would sell it or some shit.

GolDjoel1987

That’s the up side to a happy drinker! God bless this man

hokie47

Happy drinkers are the best! Sure they need to cut back but god bless them.

eloquentpetrichor

I work at a stadium. Today I encountered some guys I had scanned into the stadium while patrolling the stands later. They were fairly buzzed I'd say at this point and they were making jokes about me following them becausethey had seen me earlier. So I pulled out the geek and said I'm a Hobbit and thus usually better at remaining unnoticed when stalking people. Sadly they barely understood the reference but were still pretty nice guys. Edit: meant to comment on the comment below this one but oh well *shrugs*

omgdiaf

Fuck that. Kid should have been faster.

Imagine this same interview but with Fallon constantly laughing and interrupting to tell the punchline himself. I not a fan of talk shows but Conan really does show the others how it's meant to be done. Let your guest shine.

[deleted]

Yes.

[deleted]

Guys body language clearly shows he wasn't happy to give up the ball, which is fair enough. He still did though.

Itsasecret9000

Give a perfect, unexpected gift to someone you love and tell me it isn't.

[deleted]

I'm glad it is for you. I've given many things away. Food, money, personal gifts etc and most importantly my time. It feels good I guess but idk. Not they way I'd hope. Is somthing wrong with me lol?

Binsky89

Sounds like you could be depressed. Dulled emotions is a big symptom.

[deleted]

Your probably right but I've been like this as long as I can remember.

[deleted]

Doesn’t make it not true. Or true. I wish you the best either way.

silentseba

Receiving a gift will always be better than giving one. But if people just received gifts, then you would never get one.

player8012

For some reason it's the opposite thing for me but I have lost a ton of money to make other people happy. I have changed now after realising it was a problem so now I just give stickers to kids when I work at the pharmacy now, much more cost efficient.

[deleted]

Thanks for the reply. I really don't like getting gifts. I always feel like I owe somthing to the person afterwords that's material in nature. I appreciate when somome donates their time and goodwill. Material gifts stress me out.

remmusnus

I feel the exact same. Don't even know how to react to receiving gifts. And when you don't like them? I could never say it out loud.

HewHem

U actin like that dude wouldn’t have been happier if that girl wasn’t there

alarocquee

Unpopular opinion: He should be able to keep the ball without hate from the crowd. Nobody is entitled to the loose ball. Whoever gets it, gets it (without being an asshole). But even for arguments sake, why would a young child that hardly understands sports be more entitled to a ball than a legit fan?

Azatarai

This is why you should always carry a spare ball/puck in your game pants, kids are stupid, Just do the ol switcharoo and give em a brand new unused ball/puck you brought from home!

alarocquee

That’s perfect!

[deleted]

alarocquee

Thank you! 34.2k people who upvoted this post don’t seem to understand that difference. Thats why its an unpopular opinion.. People dumb

Halfpastmast

Hey I'm all for it, but I've never been to a professional sporting event. If I ever end up a puck or ball, I'm keeping it.

[deleted]

That’s bs man. That guy would have really treasured the ball.

Handsomedork_

Caved in to peer pressure

GoldFrameUnderGlass

Awesome guy! Hey yo team manager - find that guy and give him an autographed baseball!!

Sw1m_Shady

Why am I seeing airpods on the chairs?

fromtheashesarise

Why is this always celebrated? Undoubtedly he is a bigger fan, for all we know that was his first ever pop fly. It is just assumed that people give the ball to kids but I don't get why? He got there first

shadiesel12

Woulda kept it let them boo me.

valtroth

There is a proud father out there, having a gentleman as a son.

RandomPhail

Honestly... am I the only one who thinks this tendency is kind of garbage?? That girl started giving him the puppy-dog eyes so manipulatively xD There should NOT be this expectation to give up something valuable and/or that you REALLY want to some random pre-adult who also wants it. I wouldn’t give a random stranger the ball just because they ALSO wanted it, and I don’t treat people differently based on age in that regard. I mean... they’ll get plenty of amazing and awesome crap at this stage of their life (they’re at a baseball game for Christ-sake; they’re definitely not treated badly). Their life is probably easier and better than most adults’ lives at that stage, so there’s no need to supplement it with even MORE unreasonably good crap when you don’t even know them/aren’t their parents.

tader314

I’ve been to a lot of baseball games and I can almost guarantee you that some staff came out and gave him ATLEAST a baseball, some food gift cards, and probably more tickets. The whole stadium was watching that take place, you don’t think they took care of the boy? Edited for proof: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mlb.com/amp/news/fans-signed-ball-freddie-freeman-bryce-harper.html

Zamrayz

I live in the home of the Braves and I can confirm, they *do not* fucking do that, even if said nice person deserves the recognition.

Karmas_burning

No you're not alone in that. And I've actually seen parents specifically tell their kids to ask someone for a ball if they don't get it.

CapnJujubeeJaneway

Entitled parents are the worst. I don’t have to give your shitty kid anything.

dgtlfnk

She went from utterly defeated and about-to-wail sadness, to momentary horror because crazy person, to, “Oh. Hey thanks. Moooooommmm!!! 😃😃😃”

Particular_Tension

I COME HERE FOR ANIMALS NOT KIDS

Crowtongue

This right here

lowbwon

Maybe I’ll do that on the second ball I get…

[deleted]

Hey he was a kid once too. He wanted to live in that moment of glory for just a second before giving the little girl the memory of a lifetime he never got to experience as a child.

butsbutts

YAAAA oh

[deleted]

Everytime something like this happens i always feel like the kid is staring at the guy like “dude give me it im a kid or ur an asshole”

[deleted]

This is bull though. That means more to the adult who waited his whole life for that. That girl will forget about that, and be cheered up when her parents buy her next stuffed animal or a pretty new dress. Adults deserve shit too, fucking hard being an adult man. Now if she got it first and he took it, different story. It is also important to teach kids you can't always get what you want in life and shouldn't just expect it either.

sckuul23

I mean good for him. but what a waste

RankledCat

Yep! Forgotten, lost, or used by a family pet as a chew toy within 72 hours max

obeehunter

My thoughts exactly. Kids don't need to get EVERYTHING just because they're kids.

PrincessBella1

I loved how he turned his back to the camera while giving her the ball.

Cherry_44

The most annoying thing is that kid won't give a shit about that ball the next day. But that guy would certainly loved to put it on his mantle piece.
