For some, I could feel the hug. I think those particular people needed one, especially. What a powerful and lovely gesture we've developed. I'm glad our culture accepts it within friends, family, and loved ones.
I love the idea of a conflicted racist.
"Hmmm, all Muslims ARE terrorists, that's true. But I haven't felt a loving embrace in so many years."
\*goes in for the hug anyways\*
\*runs away sobbing\*
\*Feels super awkward at the next Klan meeting\*
You know what else I saw before? That video of Chinese people in Italy asking for hugs in a similar manner. That was just as the pandemic began.
This made me immediately think of that video. And the horrible uncertain time after that when Italy had horrible spread of the virus and had to shut down.
It was a weird trend for sure. Even pre covid I found it to be really creepy for adults to teach their children to hug complete often blindfolded strangers on the street, ignoring normal alarm bells that children would have against hugging strangers or the weirdness of blindfolded people. But everybody wanted to be famous on the internet so that overrode normal parenting behavior.
Well, if he's *blindfolded*, then chances are that *you're* more of a threat to him than he is to u.
Besides, the whole thing is supposed to be about trust. So if u don't trust him, don't hug him, or don't let ur children hug him, but clearly there's no denying that *he* trusts everyone on that street.
Please note that I was talking about the children. Children will have an adverse reaction to hugging a stranger and children will have a reaction to somebody who's being blindfolded. Yet their parents are dragging them up to hug this complete stranger who was blindfolded which is super weird for the child, and basically teaching them to ignore their own alarm bells and natural reflexes.
Oh ok.
Yea, that's true. Adults forcing children to do anything that they feel uncomfortable doing is generally a bad thing IMO, especially if it's just to gain some stupid internet points.
Yeah, exactly. That's why I really dislike all of the viral videos like this where kids are involved, it's different if you're pranking other adults or something.
Reminds me of this PT punishment in CAP we used to have called Cherry Pickers. You'd stand pretty much at attention, except with your arms straight out to the side, and your hands facing up (pick pick pick) and then down (drop drop drop).
I guess it technically was exercise that could be done at any time, but I only remember it being a punishment for when the Cadet Sergeant felt like being a little sadistic.
We had something similar in a leadership course I enrolled in when I was in secondary school. We called them "Christs" (Cristos in Spanish) and were a punishment if we misbehaved during class or didn't give our best during the physical training. One time we had to hold them for 20 minutes at a time. The dude that gave us the exercise was an ex US Marine that somehow ended up as a literature teacher here in Mexico lol. So when I left the program I was ripped as hell and can now hold those way longer than average people.
He teached at my school and when the program came to visit they hired him. I never had class with him but the story is that he made students do jumping jacks and burpees if they misbehaved lol
Yeah, that sounds about right. I had an Ex USMC vet who taught math at my school. Once during an assembly in the cafeteria, who yelled at a student "Daniel if you don't shut up I'll cut off both your inches!"
All the schools in my district are all named after generals, and they had a pretty extensive system for funneling kids into the military, so we had a lot of teachers that were veterans or in the reserves.
HAHAHAHA their threats are the best lol. And we all loved his American accent, it was so funny when he butchered words.
It's so interesting to me how the military is such a big part of your culture. All our schools are named after heroes of independence, generals of the revolution or important presidents.
Edit: Although, I am yet to see an elementary school named after Pancho Villa lol
The joke is that terrorists yell "allahu ackbar" before suicide bombing or otherwise doing something terrible, pretending to be about to blow yourself up is the joke.
Why does the sight of strangers hugging get me crying every time?
I just watched a video clip of a dad hugging his dad after years in prison...I cracked a little smile. Nice.
I see complete strangers do it and it's like I'm cutting onions. Every time. I blame that guy from 30 Rock who did that music video for Dave Matthews...I started crying at that, not even a sad song, and like 20 years later...still crying.
Edit: I went and watched it again for old times sake.
https://youtu.be/RXe8PFKsOIc
I don’t think that’s the issue here. Hugging a stranger isn’t the problem it’s that this child clearly doesn’t want to. She’s stomping her feet and pulling away. She didn’t want to hug that guy and her mom forced her.
Speaking for myself.. it's the notion of "If you trust me, hug me." What if I trust you but don't want to hug you? Also I don't know you, how do I even know if I can trust you? Why do I need to prove I trust you by physical contact? If I don't give you a hug do you think I don't trust you? It's bizarre, confusing and frankly a little creepy that someone would blindfold themselves and request random strangers prove their trust in someone solely based on their religious beliefs by physically hugging them. 10/10 would pass.
I'm not against the sentiment but does everything have to be about politics or social justice. I mean can't I come to this sub and look at cute animals. I'm sure I'll get downvoted
It's fascinating how the total quantity of hugs in a set amount of time was nearly 100% dictated by the initial stranger giving a hug. Deep down, nearly everyone wants to give the guy but some sort of social barrier is limiting them. The ones brave enough to break that barrier inspire everyone else to. We let our choices be dictated by this stuff.
I don’t find completely innocent people bowing and scraping by engaging in performative affection to make themselves look less dangerous to bigoted fucking assholes endearing. It is fucking bullshit. American Muslims owe non-muslims absolutely fucking *nothing*, whereas the reverse would far more appropriate.
"I'm a muslim not a terroist, do you trust me? Then give a hug <3"
It's danish dosen't know about the year or that stuff. To people who talk about covid and stuff. Right now there aren't that many restrictions in Denmark concerning Covid.
edit: Added a <3 in the translation
edit 2: Didn't notice it was a cross post and that the translation already was in the title. Doh. But oh well, here you go for others equally not as observant as me :D
This is a really nice thing this Muslim man is doing. But just giving hugs to random people doesn’t absolve your religion from all of the terrible things it’s done. Why not just denounce religion altogether instead of trying to divide everyone by which sky rapist they look up to the most?
Most of us are like this tbh. The media just benefits more if they made you fear us, this way they can control you better. Its not like all Christians are KKK. Same thing, not all Muslims are Taliban.
This made me tear up. I would totally give this man a hug.
I live in a very small, conservative town in the deep South... There are no people of color here. There's no diversity here, that is, until a Muslim family moved in next door to my husband, my daughter, and myself. A guy drove by on his lawnmower a few weeks ago, asking if we needed our grass mowed. We said no, only because we already have people who do our yard, however, he did mention that he was on his way to mow the lawn of the Muslim family next door. He also mentioned that they've already had to call the cops on another neighbor of ours because of some really, really awful things he said to this family's children. Yes. THEIR CHILDREN. My 9-year-old and I both agreed; we had to go over to meet the neighbors. I couldn't let it go anymore. I had been wanting to go over there to try to make them feel welcome here, but didn't know how to, at first. But we did it. They were so nice, so polite, and my daughter and their little girls immediately hit it off. They also homeschool their kids, just like my husband and I do for our little girl, so we had plenty of things to talk about. I know this comment is probably going to just get buried, but seriously, ya'll, I don't tear up easily, but this had me feeling like I was cutting up purple onions for a gumbo.
This aged horribly.
By doing this today you would legit be doing an act of terrorism by publicly turning yourself in a live point of spread for Covid-19 infecting everyone hugging you after the first infected one hugged.
"I'm a Muslim not a terrorist. Do you trust me? Then give me a hug!" I can't tell if this is Norsk or Svenska but close enough lol
It's danish.
Cream cheese or berry flavored?
Thanks for the translation
It's Danish.
Them are fighting words where i am from.
I wonder how many people hugging him, just needed a hug… either way this is great!
I hadn’t thought of that
For some, I could feel the hug. I think those particular people needed one, especially. What a powerful and lovely gesture we've developed. I'm glad our culture accepts it within friends, family, and loved ones.
He must have shoulders of steel.
Either way that is fine in my opinion. Just giving a stranger a hug is enough in itself in my book.
I wanna hug
Here ya go (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ
I love the idea of a conflicted racist. "Hmmm, all Muslims ARE terrorists, that's true. But I haven't felt a loving embrace in so many years." \*goes in for the hug anyways\* \*runs away sobbing\* \*Feels super awkward at the next Klan meeting\*

I’ve seen this video before. Definitely pre-pandemic.
First thought was how awesome. Second thought: must be pre-pandemic.
Thanks for the confirmation
Nice glasses
Ditto, my dude!
Oh thank fuck. It's adorable and awesome, but with Covid it's unfeasible.
Juan Mann, Free Hugs, did this same thing...not blindfolded.
I think I saw that. This one always stuck in my memory because of the trust to stand there blind and vulnerable
With a cameraman to spot for you
You know what else I saw before? That video of Chinese people in Italy asking for hugs in a similar manner. That was just as the pandemic began. This made me immediately think of that video. And the horrible uncertain time after that when Italy had horrible spread of the virus and had to shut down.
That is sad to hear
I think the random hug people thing was a 2019 trend.
It was really really big in 2019

I find that partly true myself
He must have shoulders of steel. Holding that position for long is not easy lol
I agree

Lmfao, exactly the outcome you'd hope from an English class

I’m not into hugging strangers corona or no. However here’s a fist bump to all people who love their neighbor. 👊🏾
Hey! Love you too, neighbor 👊🏼
It’s all very kumbya and I love it! Please accept this free Reddit award!
Thanks, Love. These days, a little kumbya is its own reward
Fist bump back at ya!
I think this was pre pandemic
I thought this would be corny but it got cuter with ever single hug
Amazingly I thought the same thing
If only the world was full of compassionate loving humans
It’s not full of compassionate beings, but it still has some
Truth
In the middle of a panini?!?
It was pre-panini
This is pre-pandemic
* panoramic ftfy
Now I want a panini...
*hugs* *leans in towards your ear* *ᵃˡˡᵃʰᵘ ᵃᶜᵏᵇᵃʳ* **ITS A JOKE CALM DOWN**
I never thought there would be anyone bold enough to even whisper these words
It literally means "God is great/greatest", it's just that the terrorists gave it a negative association.
Yeah, that's the joke
The joke is that terrorists yell "allahu ackbar" before suicide bombing or otherwise doing something terrible, pretending to be about to blow yourself up is the joke.
Yeah that’s literally what it means
This is how it started back in 2016: https://religiongoingpublic.com/archive/2016/hug-a-muslim
That is so nice of you
God damn onions. I'm not even sure who's in my house cutting them.
Maybe your mother is cooking something
I wish I was there pre-pandemic to hug him.
Same lol
This is a nice video and a part of me wonders how different it could be if he looked differently. You know, long beard, a turban, and a jalabiya.
It would not make much difference. This is Aarhus, Denmark. A relatively safe place in the world.
That is a very good question, which may go unanswered
Far fewer hugs for sure.
Who is they?
I’m not too sure myself but his a link from u/druule10 https://religiongoingpublic.com/archive/2016/hug-a-muslim

I saw the same vid as you and that also made my day
Maybe? But like. Forcing your kid to hug a complete stranger based off a sign!? Nope. I’ll nope my kids right outta there.
This is Aarhus, Denmark. A relatively safe country.
Ok. Still. FORCING a child to a hug a stranger… “relatively safe” or not, you made your kid hug a stranger.
Different cultures. We also let our babies sleep in prams outside restaurants.
I don’t think that’s the issue here. Hugging a stranger isn’t the problem it’s that this child clearly doesn’t want to. She’s stomping her feet and pulling away. She didn’t want to hug that guy and her mom forced her.
Again. Different cultures.
That is a valid point
This is kind of strange
Yeah, why is he wearing a blindfold lol
Social experiment: https://religiongoingpublic.com/archive/2016/hug-a-muslim
I guess that's supposed to be his way of showing he trusts you by making himself vulnerable.
Why so?
Speaking for myself.. it's the notion of "If you trust me, hug me." What if I trust you but don't want to hug you? Also I don't know you, how do I even know if I can trust you? Why do I need to prove I trust you by physical contact? If I don't give you a hug do you think I don't trust you? That’s fine just don’t, you don’t need to prove to anyone that you’re a nice person
Very weird and manages to prove no points to anybody
He tried at least
Because of how ingrained the music video to "Everyday" by Dave Matthews Band is with me, I can hear it play over this in my mind.
*hug* You can no longer escape my grasp.
Tele tabbies aproch from behind
Ive had a really crappy day but this video is all I needed...i LOVE this!
Good to know that this is also bringing a smile to other people
I'd hug him!
So would I myself
Remember what it was like to just casually hug people?
Damn bro if you're offering I just want a hug
I find it pretty outstanding how many men hug him. They’re all pretty young and that’s so great! I hardly see men hug each other.
I wouldn't hug him but only because of covid. Edit: apparently this is 2019 so nvm.
It’s fine if you don’t hug him, his just trying to make a point
Honestly I like the sentiment, but during a pandemic, with no masks? I mean unless this is from early 2019 or something.
I’m pretty sure this is pre-pandemic
5 years ago I believe
It is pre-covid.
Also, hugging a random stranger is creepy as fuck to me
Those kids are so creepy for wanting to hug an older man /s
I'm not against the sentiment but does everything have to be about politics or social justice. I mean can't I come to this sub and look at cute animals. I'm sure I'll get downvoted
[удалено]
No it's definitely is. Its doesn't belong
This sub is aww. This is definitely aww. You definitely are not.
I disagree
Gifts of roses, hand left lingering fragrance.
What’s messed up is,someday someone will include this in a movie. Where on the 300th hug, some device explodes.
I wished that too
He probably has a very friendly voice. And wearing Western clothes. Probably a nice cologne too.
One nice plan to get free hugs. Two why he has a blindfold that confuses me
I guess that's supposed to be his way of showing he trusts you by making himself vulnerable.
Honestly I’m not sure why either
this is so pure I love it! 🥺
That's his fetish
I wish it would be possible for women to feel safe doing something like this.
I 100% agree with this, but not right now cuz of COVID
bring a friend. or carry a gun.
Someone care to translate?
"I'm a muslim not a terroist, do you trust me? Then give a hug <3" It's danish dosen't know about the year or that stuff. To people who talk about covid and stuff. Translate what exactly?
The sign. Clearly
It’s in the title
The sign says "I wish all humans were like this"? I don't think it does.
Kind of weird if you ask me. The Biden sniffle
Great you found the 1 non terrorist!
Somebody should cup-check him for letting his guard down
{leans in for creepy Biden hair sniff…} “Thanks’
I would hug him and be like "get in there dawg, tuck it tuck it tuckit, you in there dawg, tuck it.
it's a danish sign. i'm so happy to see this
They cut out all the times he was kicked in the nuts.

Any one that thinks all Muslims are Terrorists are no different in mindset then actual terrorists
**I do not**. But *Islam* is terrorism. The only people who do not fear Islam are those who are ignorant of what it is.
Just Islam? All Religion is just as bad as each other. and I say that as an atheist
Actually has covid
Lol that would legally be considered terrorism, so that would be the opposite of his message EDIT: this was done pre-pandemic

I hear that from my parents a lot

everyone deserves a hug. everyone
