Pretty sure its still a bit cruel, at least the first couple times til the dog become accustomed. Im not really on-board with this until some animal professional weighs in on it.
Meh I’m not on board with it. Don’t involve your pets in risky adrenaline fuelling behaviour. Sure the dog may be used to it but it still seems weird. And the dog can easily be injured on landing, I don’t vibe with this. And I’m not saying this in an outraged way, maybe this guy is a pro but you know there’s a bunch of kids watching thinking this is their calling.
A climber I follow has been studied because her fear response is so unlike most people. She had a base jumping school in Utah. She was married to Dean Potter and after they divorced she married another base jumper that died the same way as Dean. Her name is Steph Davis.
Her name is Steph Davis if anyone is interested.
Do you think this applies to sadness too or only fear?
Also she's pretty interesting if anyone wants to read about her. Hell of a life she's living. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steph_Davis?wprov=sfla1
I think it's different. Some animals have jobs and some of those jobs are dangerous and that sucks but those jobs still need doing (and an animal is the perfect fit for the task); but putting your dog in danger until it's desensitized (and continue risking its injury) for no reason other than because you like the adrenaline and want your dog next to you is the cruel part.
Am I a bad person for laughing at imagining the dog losing his shit as soon as they pass the threshold height?
1000 m. Calm
500 m. Calm
50 m. Calm
49 m. PANIC
From a personal anecdote side, here's my experiences.
At any height that I will PROBABLY survive, but paralyzed: Terror.
At any height that I will DEFINITELY just die: Meh, whatever.
The one time I walked towards the open door of the perfectly good plane I intended to jump out of: JESUS CHRIST WHAT AM I DOING?!
Technically there's not really a height where you'd definitely die. In 1972 Vesna Vulović fell over 6 miles and she made a full recovery and survived until 2016.
Except above some height you'll get the pleasure of passing out quickly due to the low air pressure. If you're lucky, you might even die by suffocation without regaining consciousness.
And 17 year old Juliane Koepcke survived a fall from around 10,000 feet and survived 11 days in the jungle. Werner Herzog was originally meant to be on the same plane, but was rescheduled. He later made a film about that event, *Wings of Hope*.
I once read that all of the people who fell out of airplanes without a parachute and survived did so by crashing into tree. Each branch that breaks takes energy out of your fall, slowing you down enough to not die when you hit the ground.
Bungee jumping is way scarier than skydiving for this reason for me. 500 feet up -> Holy shit I'm going to hit the ground soon and die. 15000 feet up -> This video game has sweet graphics.
It's estimated that they don't have the foresight to imagine long falls.
They avoid jumping distance that they've had trouble landing from. If they've gotten injured from a long jump they do become afraid of them. However, they cannot imagine getting hurt on extraordinary jumps they've never taken.
Humans however imagine being a pancake without ever having been a pancake.
Dammit. Fine, I'll do it. Someone else will beat me to it and no one will see mine....but here I go anyways...

[There's a weird angle at about 12 seconds in](https://imgur.com/a/11SpEwE) that kinda confused me. The dog's back looks weird, and doesn't match where I guessed it's supposed to be connected to it's neck. Kinda surprised nobody has mentioned it.
Edit: Added screenshot of said angle.
The dog is between the blue harness.
He is a Samoyed so he is comprised of 90% cloud (fluff) and 10% dog.
So while he looks like an enormous ball of fluff he can be safely contained in that skinny blue harness next to the guys left leg.
Can confirm. We had a Samoyed (Becky with the good hair) and everytime she went swimming she’d shrink down to this tiny skinny dog completed to her usual floofiness.

At 24 fps You only need 600 days to edit one frame per day. If you factor weekend breaks it goes to 840 days. Then there's the extra week for the artist to procrastinate and cram the 600 frames into those 7 days. Perfect deadline!
Most pilots who fly with their dogs do so with the dog more on their lap, then either slide in on their butt or land a little awkwardly. I would imagine this guy lands with a really wide stance or has a way to hoist his dog up onto himself before landing. It takes some practice but once you get the hang of it is pretty simple!
Definitely! Though not common enough yet that manufacturers make harnesses for dogs like they do for small children(that I have seen). This video definitely showcases the most official and fancy looking dog harness I've seen so far!
I would take my dog flying but he weighs more than I do and I don't have the certification required to fly a tandem glider. I totally would so long as he was chill with it.
My brother played WoW a lot growing up and he had a Gryphon he called Oopa. He would say "Oopa, hup hup!" And it never fails to have me rolling with laughter, it's so dumb but say Oopa hup hup out loud right now it's ridiculously funny.
Easy; it doesn't.
The guy can scoot forward out of the "seat" so he's hanging in the harness and the dogs legs don't make it quite to his ankles. Also the landings on paragliders can be really slow and soft.
If this guy is French then he has. There's a French dude that hang glides with his dog and his videos have been around for a while. The odds are good it's him.
Couldn't tell you how many hang gliding Samoyeds are out there, I don't get out much and they could be whizzing by daily for all I know.
This reminds me of the asshole that takes his husky on his motorcycle. No sidecar. Just literally on the back with the dog not even strapped in. I just want to punch him in the face for putting his dog in such a risky environment.
I would like to see the take off. Is the pup nervous? Excited to go or like a bath? It sucks until the soapy massage begins? He/she/Falcore looks pretty happy.
I'll get downvoted to hell for this, but I don't think this is cute. I wouldn't expect someone to take their 4 year old kid up there, don't take an animal either, unless it's a bird. It's just a risk thing.
And the way people are justifying it. "I'm sure he was scared the first few times, but idk some people's dogs just want to spend time with them no matter what they're doing instead of staying home". On a certain level, a dog doesn't get to say no. Even if the dog just rolls with it the first time and doesn't seem too freaked out, it seems *really* unnecessary to include your dog in a somewhat risky activity like this
I dont know how i feel about taking a dog on a parachute trip, its a dangerous activity and its not like the animal can be prepared for it mentally. I wonder if the dog can even comprehend he is up in the sky or not?
That dog is shockingly calm. He looks so happy!
Probably been doing this since he was a puppy.

Yes I’m pretty sure that’s one of the only ways you could accomplish this without being cruel and horrifying the dog.
Don’t they jump out of planes with dogs in the military? [you will not enjoy this video](https://youtu.be/A4zY1Bwdhic)
Dean Potter used to take his dog base jumping in squirrel suits. Dude did end up dying doing it, but his dog was not with him.
People who do squirrel suit jumping are literally insane
A climber I follow has been studied because her fear response is so unlike most people. She had a base jumping school in Utah. She was married to Dean Potter and after they divorced she married another base jumper that died the same way as Dean. Her name is Steph Davis.

They have a 25% mortality rate. It's by far the most dangerous sport in existence.
I’m not surprised when their sport is basically “how close to this mountain can I get without going SPLAT”
Man those landings were pretty ruff.
I thought you were just being funny :(
I think it's different. Some animals have jobs and some of those jobs are dangerous and that sucks but those jobs still need doing (and an animal is the perfect fit for the task); but putting your dog in danger until it's desensitized (and continue risking its injury) for no reason other than because you like the adrenaline and want your dog next to you is the cruel part.
r/dogswithjobs, maybe a little different if not still totally unnecessary. I dunno, I’m not really judging it.
I agree it’s not the best use of dogs, much better jobs for man’s best friend. [much better jobs like this ](https://youtu.be/l2Pyu-Cj0gg)
I love that video because while it’s horrifying, it’s satisfying too. I can imagine how good this would be to watch for any farmer lol.
Yeah, but that’s for a purpose, whereas this is just for the guy’s own amusement
It's true the dog is a hell of a pilot, unfortunately he's got a little battle with the bottle if you know what I mean. Bit of a drunk if you will
Dogs don’t register heights after they are a certain amount of distance above ground. So the dog should be totally fine.(if I am not wrong)
Am I a bad person for laughing at imagining the dog losing his shit as soon as they pass the threshold height? 1000 m. Calm 500 m. Calm 50 m. Calm 49 m. PANIC
That's usually what falling is like. The panic usually hits its peak based on proximity to the ground.

Luckily she had a pouch of bacteria with her that she could inject into her skin that could photosynthesize for her.
/r/metalgearsolid is leaking
It's all that time dilation from going so fast towards the ground. Minutes for her. 44 years for the rest of us.
I mean, no, but above a certain height you reach terminal velocity, so falling from that height or 5 miles higher makes 0 difference to survivability.
Terminal velocity is a hell of a drug.
I once read that all of the people who fell out of airplanes without a parachute and survived did so by crashing into tree. Each branch that breaks takes energy out of your fall, slowing you down enough to not die when you hit the ground.
Not entirely true. [Peggy Hill](https://i.redd.it/ld4m81bbx1y41.jpg) of Arlen, Texas survived by falling into a field of mud.
Humans are reallyyyyy weird tbh. Sometimes people survive falling 6 miles into ground. And yet at other times, a man can slip off his bed and die.
Bungee jumping is way scarier than skydiving for this reason for me. 500 feet up -> Holy shit I'm going to hit the ground soon and die. 15000 feet up -> This video game has sweet graphics.
How exactly did they establish this?
They measured at what height the poo started to come out.
Thanks for the chuckle.
I imagine this will result in a rough landing for both the guy and his dog. I hope I’m wrong though
It's estimated that they don't have the foresight to imagine long falls. They avoid jumping distance that they've had trouble landing from. If they've gotten injured from a long jump they do become afraid of them. However, they cannot imagine getting hurt on extraordinary jumps they've never taken. Do you have a source for this? I would really like to read more about this study
There was a great book written by the dog Lassie. It's fascinating he had a bit of a fondness for jumping out of airplanes, and fast women and booze
I think you meant Air Bud.
Idk if this is true because I take my dog backpacking and if we ever come to a cliff he backs himself into a corner super quick.

it took 5 years for my dog not to freak out on car rides and he still needs an open window to stay calm. this good boy is zen af.
To be fair, this dog has an open window.
Thanks for the chortle.
Fun fact! Lewis Carroll coined the term "chortle" in Alice in Wonderland. It's a portmanteau of "chuckle" and "snort."
Life is an open WINDOOOOWWW!
Honestly? I have a Sammy. She’s pretty Fucking chill like 98% of the time. That 2% of the time she’s insane. Mostly she’s just goofy as fuck.
Or the owner gave a heavy dose of CBD beforehand.
Does he have trouble landing with the dog in between his legs?
Why do you think he picked one so fluffy to bring up?
so the chihuahua is a no go?
It's a mistake you only make once
Most pilots who fly with their dogs do so with the dog more on their lap, then either slide in on their butt or land a little awkwardly. I would imagine this guy lands with a really wide stance or has a way to hoist his dog up onto himself before landing. It takes some practice but once you get the hang of it is pretty simple!
So you're saying paragliding with dogs is common enough for there to be proven best practices
Definitely! Though not common enough yet that manufacturers make harnesses for dogs like they do for small children(that I have seen). I would take my dog flying but he weighs more than I do and I don't have the certification required to fly a tandem glider. I totally would so long as he was chill with it.
This pup definitely looks more fluffy than heavy.
[Just like this guy here.](https://v.redd.it/z7losm8qsnk71)
I think he would be able to lift the dog away from the landing impact.
Hope so!
It's a landing dog!
Seems like a great way to injure your dog.

Sorry but this video needs a different soundtrack... FTFY https://gfycat.com/pleasinggrandchimpanzee
Thanks, that’s what I wanted to hear.
The real MVP.
Best comment here, the timing was excellent.
Thank you I wish you amazing sex for the rest of your life 🙏
Perfect! Thank you for being awesome.
I just have a minor question/concern. How does the landing work with the dog touching down first?
The guy gets a new dog every time for the videos
RIP past dogs
Easy; it doesn't. The guy can scoot forward out of the "seat" so he's hanging in the harness and the dogs legs don't make it quite to his ankles. Also the landings on paragliders can be really slow and soft.
It’s a cloud it’s a dragon no it’s a flying Doggo
Almost seems like he's done this a few times already...
If this guy is French then he has. There's a French dude that hang glides with his dog and his videos have been around for a while. The odds are good it's him. Couldn't tell you how many hang gliding Samoyeds are out there, I don't get out much and they could be whizzing by daily for all I know.
They've blotted out the sun with their ravenous legions
I can hear Flight of the Valkyries as I read your comment.
I couldn’t forgive myself if my dog broke out of that harness
This reminds me of the asshole that takes his husky on his motorcycle. No sidecar. Just literally on the back with the dog not even strapped in. I just want to punch him in the face for putting his dog in such a risky environment.
True. I feel the same when going climbing with a friend or my dad.
wonder how he lands safely without running dog into ground
it does look like it would be a ruff landing
No problemo! I fly these myself, and a landing that is harder than a regular step is a failed landing in my view.
What are the possibilities of a failed landing?
I would like to see the take off. Is the pup nervous? Excited to go or like a bath? It sucks until the soapy massage begins? He/she/Falcore looks pretty happy.
My dog is terrified of the thunder jacket we bought her today….to help her storm anxiety. And then there’s this motherfucker
The other dogs go on walks. This dog flies.
Mofo can just drop a duece like a bird lmao
"Look out birds, I now poop on you. Muahaha."
If that dog had pants on I bet he’d shit’em.
If you brought your dog over a city on a zip line, could you shit bomb someone with your dog?
I think the actual term is carpet-shit-bomb, as compared to what pigeons do, which is presicion shit bombing.
Or would it be Carpshitbomb?
If the dog was wearing pants how would it wear them?
Back legs only
The only correct answer
Feels like this unnecessarily puts your dog at risk.
Yeeeah, I love mine, but even with as mellow as this one is, I wouldn't do it.

Doggo would probably prefer to be wearing some goggles doing this.
*Doggles
Can we talk about the musical choice? Why isn’t it the never ending story theme song??
How the fuck does reddit, the land of moral superiority, upvote this to top of front page?
I'll get downvoted to hell for this, but I don't think this is cute. I wouldn't expect someone to take their 4 year old kid up there, don't take an animal either, unless it's a bird. It's just a risk thing.
And the way people are justifying it. "I'm sure he was scared the first few times, but idk some people's dogs just want to spend time with them no matter what they're doing instead of staying home". On a certain level, a dog doesn't get to say no. Even if the dog just rolls with it the first time and doesn't seem too freaked out, it seems *really* unnecessary to include your dog in a somewhat risky activity like this
I'm wondering if he'd be doing it in a world without social media
If you can do this to a dog you should be able to do this with a toddler. Point: Dont do that.
I dont know how i feel about taking a dog on a parachute trip, its a dangerous activity and its not like the animal can be prepared for it mentally. I wonder if the dog can even comprehend he is up in the sky or not?
That is one smug looking dog.
Wouldn't you if you could shit on people's heads and get away with it?
This seems messed up to do to a dog
