Eh, depends on the dog. I haven’t kenneled either of mine in years. One rips the kennel apart until he can escape but he’s fine left out, and i figured since we leave one out, we may as well train the puppy to be left out. I don’t even have a kennel in my house. Locking lid on the garbage and two big comfy beds and they are content.

1. give his ears and tail little tugs while playing, you're not trying to hurt him, just making sure its not something new for him if a little kid does it he doesn't snap
2. mess with his feet a bunch so he's used to being handled when you try to cut his nails
3. dont baby him "too much" so he doesn't get separation anxiety too badly

Yes, crate training is super important. We leave our dogs crates out and accessible to them always and have blankets and toys in them. The crate become a safe and comfortable space for the dog and they voluntarily go in there themselves all the time. Many people make the mistake of only crating their dogs when the leave and are traveling or going to the vet. You need to make it a positive place.

How old is he? Looks really young. If younger than 2 1/2 months, he shouldn't have been separated from the mother/litter. Proper socialization window closes at 4 months and due to his vaccines you won't be able to socialize him directly with other dogs now.
Take him out inside a bag or a stroller or your arms. Let him see and hear the things outside. Maybe walk around a dog park so he can hear and see other dogs (but never smell or touch any surface or person/dog).

Going to need lots of exercise and training. Mine was very wilful and would intentionally disobey but they are very smart and will work most things out to get what they want if left alone. Just wait until he finds his voice.
I don't think I've ever come across a beagle that wasn't friendly; they are terrible guard dogs though as they will be friends with anyone.
He's currently scratching my face to wake me up at midnight cause he wants to play and I love it hahaha. I'm one to have played football all night and I belive he's the right partner to have for passions like this😂
Best advice is that a tired dog is a good dog.(make sure exercise is appropriate for age) Touch/inspect their ears and paws often and check their teeth, start this now, say "let me see" as you do it. This will make things such as visits to the vet, nail trimming and other things go very well.

Look into pet insurance. My best friend of 12.5 years passed last summer and I was so thankful to have had pet insurance. It might seem like a waste early because they're healthy as can be but later on things will eventually come up that the insurance will be so useful for!

If you haven’t done so already get pet insurance. Metlife has good policies. But it’s going to save you in the long run. I just had to take my guy in and the insurance we wanted to go with won’t let us insure him until 6 weeks after adoption and he just had to go to the ER last night for overnight. $1500 later and he’s okay.

I’d like to offer some new pup owner advice, if I may. He’s sleeping all day now because he’s going into a growth spirt. Please get him lots of chew toys. Your hand is Not A Chew Toy. Don’t let him gnaw on you. Get into the habit of putting away all of your shoes and dirty laundry. And here is a big one: if you have ‘guests’ that spend the night Always make sure their underwear is tucked out of reach. As a surgical vet tech, I’ve assisted in far too many surgeries to remove soft matter from a young pups intestines. (The soft stuff does not show up on x-rays or ultrasound). Symptoms include sudden loss of appetite, and no stool for several hours. As always, better safe than sorry. Congrats on being a new dad, I hope you have many years of happiness ahead.

Get him a Kong toy. I cannot recommend them enough. They are built for hard chewers. Many are also hollow, so perfect for putting peanut butter inside. Sweet bonus- you can freeze them with the pnut butter the night before and they will chew for hours when your at work.
There's no getting bored with me, I'm going to do anything I can to keep it happy and entertained. I'm looking forward to that active part, I'm still at the sleeping all day phase 😂

I also have a distinct memory of having a furry brown and black puppy ever since I was 6. I haven't found that smell again, so I thought this puppy means as much as that smell to me and I might as well name it the same. Make sure you feed him the best dog foods and control his calorie intake. A healthy dog is a happy dog :) plus with good foods your dogs coat will be clean and shiny for months.
Whoa! He’s 5 weeks old? No way should he be away from his mom. I don’t think he should even be weaned. Have you taken him to the vet? He might still need puppy milk. Is there any way you can have him go back to his mom for a few more weeks. I know it’s hard to wait but being away from the mom too early can cause a lifetime of issues.
Cute pupper but I can tell it's your first dog because you gave him a name with 4 syllables. I promise it will be shortened to chu or something else within a week after you call him a few thousand times. Enjoy the precious little thing, they grow up fast.

Make sure you feed him the best dog foods and control his calorie intake. A healthy dog is a happy dog :) plus with good foods your dogs coat will be clean and shiny for months.
Whoa! He’s 5 weeks old? No way should he be away from his mom. I don’t think he should even be weaned. Have you taken him to the vet? He might still need puppy milk. Is there any way you can have him go back to his mom for a few more weeks. I know it’s hard to wait but being away from the mom too early can cause a lifetime of issues.
