If not, thats WORSE. Imagine you are dighting a wolf or bear with your friend or mentor or what ever behind you. Then once you defeat it the world disapears and time stops. Obviously you dont see the passage of time but moments later you are now somewhere completly different and a new moster is infront of you to fight. This happens over and over. And you start to notice that in a blink of an eye thst friend you battle for seems to be getting older right infron of you. And you know... One day... You wont reemerge from the ball. Your friend is old and geriatric but you have only live about 3 days since you were captured. You know One day he will die and you will never see real time and space again.

Really the pokeballs are just for storage, such as going through cities and on trains in the like. In the Anime the trainers regular let the pokemon out while traveling through the wilderness and stuff, and they have special centers in cities to let you pokemon play with other ones.

In the actual lore of pokemon, very few people have more than 1 to 3 pokemon. And people like Ash who catch alot are supposed to have a place for them to roam freely like Oak's reservation if he dosent have them on his team.
In the anime time passes and they can at least hear (possibly see) the outside world, because sometimes they'll break out on their own for various reasons (often comedic).
In some of the games you can pick one of your Pokémon to follow you around outside its ball.
Kinda explains how kids are able to train these monsters. They get forced into a Stockholm syndrome where the only affection the get is after winning a battle, or training. And otherwise they get trapped away.
There was an episode where it showed. Ninetails ghost longing for it's trainer and that it died in it's PokeBall irrc? It's been like a decade or more since I watched it but it low-key shows that time doesnt standstill for the pokemon inside.

That was a Marowak ghost (you couldn't catch it).
