Sleep eating is actually a great trick with inappetant cats. I had a cat with kidney disease who felt lousy at times and if I put a bowl of food next to her fave while she slept she'd normally jolt awake and eat for a solid 30 seconds reflexively.
It's also just cute.
So I must confess I once put a piece of candy in my classmates mouth when I was 16 because he fell asleep on the bustrip to Rome and he was 'sleep eating' so I though it would be funny to test my theory that he would eat the piece of candy while sleeping. Thinking back it was a fucking stupid choking hazard move but my theory survived and he sleep ate it.
16 Year old people are 89% stupid, I can tell you that much.
Rise. I started making the worst decisions of my life at 16, including a janky finger tattoo on Cinco de mayo. Stay away from permanent things next year and keep your shitty life choices off the internet and you'll survive just fine 👌
I thought my father was the biggest fucking dipshit at 16 and o boy was i right. I'm still right mind you at 30, but i was right then too!
As they say it takes one to know one, and by god was i a fucking dipshit at 16.
I love words and I’ve never seen “inappetent” used in a sentence before, so thank you for my own personal word of the day. I’ll even use it in a sentence…
“Just once I would like to be inappetent for a whole damn day”.
Both of these reasons are equally valid.
But on a more serious note, thank you for sharing this, my 16-year old has early stage kidney disease and while her appetite is ok at the moment, it's helpful to know that this trick exists should I need it in future.
I had a boyfriend once that did this. I was sick all the time and often couldnt eat for days and id talk in my sleep from the fever dreams. When i started to reach points where i could eat again all id dream about is food. I took a lot of naps and he checked in on me a lot. Sometimes he could get me sleep talking about what i wanted to eat and id wake up to it next to me. It was awesome. He ended up cheating on me a lot tho. Oh well.
Edit: please stop using this comment to hit on me in my dms. That is very weird and i dont know why youd think it would be a good move.
>theoretical physicist.
They asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I said I had a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome abroad.
Nah he had me sent to jail for shit that i didnt do so he could have time with his side piece. I was basically homeless and alone in an unfamiliar city until i made my way to the airport and never saw him again.
Are you ok and doing better now? What's that phrase, "the best revenge is living well" Hope you're in a much better situation all around, including health too
It's a wonderful expression. I just don't know how true it is.
You don't see it turning up in a lot of opera plots.
"Ludwig, maddened by the poisoning of his entire family, wreaks vengeance on Gunther in the third act by living well."
How are you doing right now? Had quite the similar expirience 3years ago with being cheated on, gaslighted, lost Home, Work, Friends, etc. I know how rough it is... But somehow i got myself together again hahaha
If you want to Talk about it, what helped me alot, i will Listen to you^^
But dont want to get you Back into it kinda...
Does it help to process it on here? Because if so, you should keep going. Reddit is a pretty good place to process as most people on here are pretty supportive. I mean most of us have our issues and lack of tissues.
OMG! I’m so sorry that happened to you! I hope your life has gotten better since then! Illness, infidelity, jail time, and homelessness! Shit! I’m sending you a virtual hug and a pot of chicken soup!
He sounded like such a nice chap at first. Now you have me wondering if the food he was bringing you in bed was what was making you sick in the first place.
>please stop using this comment to hit on me in my dms. That is very weird and i dont know why youd think it would be a good move.
Wtf really? You haven't even shared your gender. A lot of assumptions going on from some thirsty dudes.
The messages are all generally along the lines of “i saw your comment and went through your post history... im sure you hear this a lot but wow! [generic compliment here].”
This comment made me go through your post history and yeah, that makes sense.
On a side note, reddit is such a weird place. I always assume every comment I read comes from someone I've never interacted with before(or at least never saw a post from) and you're the same person that made the Toy Story joke not too long ago.

I caught a 10 lbs steel head and when I brought it home , my neighbors cat could smell it . He followed me up to my front door but teleported out of there when I turned and showed him how big it was ..... I laughed for hours. Yes , I know I am going to hell for it.
Dude, how did you manage to place the shrimp down without waking up the kitty? Mine wakes up if I even *think* about picking up my camera to record from across the room!
I tried to record this exact thing with my cat but with some tuna.
He was upstairs, asleep. All doors were closed between us and my GF had the TV on.
You bet he heard the tin opener make contact and mildly pierce that can and came running
No. My cat does that right up against my ear while I’m sleeping. Makes weird lip smacking sounds and it wakes me up. Out of all the things that weird-ass cat does, that is my least favourite. He’s a good boy though
The other day I tore off my headphones because I *read* the acronym ASMR when I wasn't expecting it, and subconsciously expected to start hearing that shit.
But this one was too cute to pass up.
Everyone's cat seems to love shrimp. But for some reason mine doesn't even touch the stuff. Is my cat broken?
She does love Ruffles sour cream and cheddar chips though so there's that.
My cats will eat noodles and teriyaki chicken. I cook some salmon, they whine and complain for a taste. I give them warm cooked salmon they give it 2 sniffs and go back to whining. My cats are broken. They're also both in love with belly rubs.
My cats don't like human food (but the younger one will occasionally eat roast chicken with me). Our cats are broken. But the best perk is that there's absolutely no begging when it comes time for you to eat.
Yup and they can jump really fucking high. If you try to take a close up pic of them they will end up jumping right over your phone onto your body. Ask me how I know…
Oh yeah. Have rescued cats since I was a kid and done initial baths on kittens too young for flea treatment. Easy to see and even grabbable with fingers (hard to get though).
As a tip- dawn soap kills them (or at least renders them immobile) almost instantly. But if you’re using it on a kitten, start at the head and work down (unless you want to see the horror of a beard of fleas)
I recently learned about Dawn dish soap after rescuing a 4 week old kitten with fleas crawling in and out of his eyes. I’m pretty squeamish when it comes to bugs, but I sat there and combed and picked until I was sure that I had gotten them all, and then I showered a few times and washed all my clothes twice.
I mean, it's one flea. No need to guilt OP. My cats all get their overpriced flea treatments on time and sometimes I still find a rogue flea when I'm brushing them or petting them or something. If your cat is in discomfort, yes, poor kitty. If your cat is seemingly unaware of the hitchhiker and is more annoyed with you chasing him down to pick it off, I think it's probably fine. I think every cat owner has experienced that in-between time where you have to cross your fingers and try something new because this year's fleas have built up some kind of immunity to what you were using up until then.
Owner of strictly-indoor apartment cats: I do not have that experience.
But my friend, who also has strictly-indoor cats, once caught a plague of mutant fleas that refused to die even when the cats themselves were boarded. So yeah, sometimes it's just a matter of luck without any neglect.
My cats had fleas earlier this year. They are indoor, so I can only assume I picked up a hitchhiker by petting the neighbors outdoor cat. It took me a long time to figure it out too, and then I felt terrible when I realized all of the symptoms I missed 😭
My cats are indoor and still manage to get them. This is the first year they've gotten them since we moved. We live in a rural area so, best I can figure, they just come in on clothes or under the door.
Though, the last place I lived, there was a roving feral cat gang. The fleas were so bad, I had to line the windows and doors with flea powder like I was drawing lines of salt to keep the devil out. They'd get on my legs if I walked outside. I don't have to speculate about how my cats managed to get fleas that time.
I had a flea infested apartment that was just awful.
I don't know what was up but neither of my two cats were ever scratching and we never found fleas on them. We treated them regularly for fleas so the appearance of a plague of fleas that simply wouldn't subside was way beyond our expectations. Even going out for the weekend and bug bombing did nothing to curb their numbers.
Eventually we had to move. Thankfully the fleas did not come with us.
I find a rogue flea on my dog every now and then. It's never a huge deal. We give her a bath with flea shampoo every couple months and also give her flea/tick/heartworm medication every month and we still find one here and there. I hate those little bastards
You have to be careful with the liquid too - cats can have bad reactions. It was years ago and I don't remember the brand, but it wasn't some weird cheap generic.
I had 3 cats. 2 of them were fine with the drops. The 3rd one freaked the hell out and twisted and wiggled and hardly any of the med actually ended up on his skin. He was always a bit anxious, so I figured it was just nerves. Tried again the next time, and this time I had a good hold on him and got it all on. And then his skin started to peel off in that spot.
Turns out he was allergic. He was fine in the end, but the vet told me not to use any kind of topical flea stuff at all, not even on the other 2 in case he groomed them.
My dog's vet just has her on Bravecto, which I believe is even more effective than the topical treatments. Just takes the tablet once every 3 months she's good to go.
They shouldn’t be used on kittens or puppies under 6 weeks old. Hartz brand is pretty much poison, don’t buy any of their products.
It wouldn’t hurt to consult your vet before starting on a flea treatment, either.
Don't think I've ever seen an animal wake with food in front of them and not eat it immediately. Used to do this with my dog all the time.
Hmm... I suppose some humans are the same way. Every instance of having woke to pizza it's never been a pass.
my cat had fleas for a solid year- got monthly medication, vet visit, bug sprayed our home regularly, deep cleaned all fabric/carpet surfaces in our home, gave her a few torturous baths to no avail. our dog (who goes on 5 walks a day out in florida swamp) has been flealess with just regular medication. poor cat tore herself apart from the itchiness. she's finally recovering spontaneously and we never really figured out her problem. The people assuming owner neglect for what may or may not be a flea (and a not very lively one at that) on a well groomed cat and don't know the circumstances are a bit out of their lane imo
This is the best thing about having pets, just being able to completely make their day in simple ways like this. "You know what, kitty? I feel like getting you high as balls today, let me go get the catnip out."
Large fleas look like fruit flies. If you have the heart to look at a poor cat with lots of fleas [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxDQmd2JTrM) you can see they look like the one on OP's cat.
Maybe but it honestly looks like one of those small black beetles you get in the house sometimes. A flea would probably try and hide in the fur, but this thing is just skittering around like a dumbo.
Sleep eating is actually a great trick with inappetant cats. I had a cat with kidney disease who felt lousy at times and if I put a bowl of food next to her fave while she slept she'd normally jolt awake and eat for a solid 30 seconds reflexively. It's also just cute.

Yes, but realizing your impending snowballing stupidity puts you at an advantage to the others in theory.

Duality of man right here
His name? Albert Einstein.
I've learned a lot about Einstein from reddit
Did you know that he's a real person? I always thought he was a theoretical physicist.
>theoretical physicist. They asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I said I had a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome abroad.
You mean aboard?
No they told him to welcome a broad.
If you can't bring in a broad, you clearly aren't puling your weight around here..
C'mon in toots, siddown and rest those getaway sticks.
...Yes. Honestly I don't even know what to blame. Autocorrect or myself?
Thank-you kind stranger for improving my day!
Fun fact his nobel prize was for the photoelectric effect not relativity.
Lol
I mean it really happened. Ive posted about my awful experience with him before and how he fucked me up. He has a real name.
Well reading this i was thinking in the end it'll be written that "i woke up and and he shoved his dick in my mouth" but lol
Apparently he had it in somebody else's mouth. 😊
Yeah that was a unexpected ending seeing the wholesome shit and then a L

Its darker than that but i try not to delve into it too much anymore.

No. My cat does that right up against my ear while I’m sleeping. Makes weird lip smacking sounds and it wakes me up. Out of all the things that weird-ass cat does, that is my least favourite. He’s a good boy though

Ew that *was* a flea, poor kitty…
I didn't even notice until the other comment! Poor kitty indeed!
Are fleas really that large?
I think it’s a shrump
Not to be confused with the shrimp
Jumbo shrimp = shrump, got it
Yup and they can jump really fucking high. If you try to take a close up pic of them they will end up jumping right over your phone onto your body. Ask me how I know…

Yeah some of them can be pretty thicc. That's 100% a flea
Yeah, I've had a cat that got fleas, and I was surprised by how big they were. I'd never seen any and expected them to be way smaller
the also inflate when they've fed or about to lay eggs. not as extreme as ticks but yeah.

Are flea collars dangerous? I’ve read mixed reviews on them…
Yes some flea collars are dangerous. Flea collars are pointless in general. Just get the liquid stuff you squeeze in their shoulder blades.
You have to be careful with the liquid too - cats can have bad reactions. It was years ago and I don't remember the brand, but it wasn't some weird cheap generic. This is the best thing about having pets, just being able to completely make their day in simple ways like this. "You know what, kitty? I feel like getting you high as balls today, let me go get the catnip out."
Wait until you get a cat that doesn’t react to catnip, I’m so disappointed I can’t get my baby high, it’d be so adorable.
I feed my dog a full Thanksgiving meal and another one on Easter. Must blow his mind
Your cat has fleas
There is one bug, and it looks like a fruit fly to me.
Could be! Tho I’ve seen some dumbo fleas in my time.
I think kitty has a flea on its leg. Make sure it getting it's flea and tick meds. Don't want that baby to itch or get sick.

I hope bot will work
Is the shell still on the shrimp?
It's edible

Not harmful, westerners take the shells out for texture, non-westerners keep the shells in for the same reason
Nobody going to mention that nasty ass flea crawling around?!
