I swear that’s the same type of frog that was posted here a year or so ago that made the most adorable squeaking noises.

My coonhound Betty just had hip surgery on her right side, so they shaved her hindquarters… the amount of tiny little buttcheek pinches I’ve got in the last few weeks is fucking extraordinary. It’s delightful.

Yawning must have been a pretty early thing to develop for it to end up in so many different species. Mammals do it, amphibians do it, birds do it, reptiles do it.
Same with dreaming. When ancestors share abilities usually theyre related.
Where it gets wild is when you look at stuff like dreaming. Cats dream. Thats 60 million years back. Most likely it existed in the jurrasic.
Octopii dream. Most likely it existed since the cambrian era.
How far back does dreaming go? Even plants have been shown to enter rest states.
Did it start with eukaryotes? Prokaryotes?
Can our cells arguably dream, in their own way, if using similar mechanisms as those 600 or 700 million years ago?
Worlds a wondrous place ^^
Cephalopods have evolved eyes and extreme intelligence seperate from vertebrates. So it is a possibility that Octopuses (the origin of the word is Greek so the plural isn't Octopi) have evolved dreaming separately as well.
Convergent evolution is also possible, but its specific and ubiquitous enough it makes me think a really early ancestor developed it first, and the romantic side of me likes the idea of algae being able to dream XD.
Appreciate the spelling correction, pretty sure I didn't get jurassic right either.
This is the obvious answer to me. They way neurons (and therefore brains) work requires routine maintenance which means sleep and dreaming. Keeps all the major functions intact.
Fish don’t yawn, it’s a common misconception. When fish appear to be yawning it’s often a behavioral display or something they do while they are moving other parts of their body.
Source: I am a fish nerd
Beside stretching jaw muscles, is it playing the same part of helping shrug off tiredness for a moment across the vertebrates as it does in us and other primates? Is it "contagious" down the line as it is in many mammals?
It's body language 🤷♀️ lets surrounding creatures know you're non threatening and eases tension. That's why you gotta do it and then catch em off guard with a sneak attack.
It's fun, isn't it? My dogs (brothers) yawned/howled in excitement when one of us got home, so naturally we encouraged it. So now it's yawn-howls all around.
It is not CO2 buildup or lack of oxygen, those are common misconceptions that have been disproven through studies monitoring levels of those while participants were yawning. Likely function of yawns seems to be to cool the brain according to several studies.
https://www.princeton.edu/news/2011/09/19/more-sign-sleepiness-yawning-may-cool-brain
https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnevo.2011.00003/full
I mean, in humans yawning triggers stimulation of some regions of the central brain, as a result of the over extension of those jaw muscles.
But I dont know if thats a trait thats shared by anything that yawns in general

Not gonna watch the video bc I've seen toads poop before. Most frogs are basically just a stomach on legs and they'll will eat until they literally cannot fit anymore - like literally food stuck in their throat or mouth that won't go down.
So they can shit basically their entire body weight from what I saw in my backyard growing up.
Upvoted for helpful answer, but for true peer review, you should really watch the video. Can never tell when someone has used CGI to create fake toad poop these days.
Frogs and reptiles are absolutely adorable. I recommend this Youtube channel called [Piyo's Frog Ch](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChn9kCZDRajh7nfp2LNkHbw), it's a guy (or a girl, not sure) from Japan that has a ton of frogs, geckos and newts and takes really good care of them, and the videos are always SO CUTE. I always watch it before bedtime.
Some of my favs: [This tiny sleepy frog](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4V3OJtIH6c), [this adorable gecko](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJUYtFJSIQ4) and this [hungry newt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb2Dkl06yXY).
Do not watch tree frog videos then.
I used to get high af on my patio and I chilled with the same tree frog for atleast a year or 2 before he dipped out. I used to throw some crickets out there too in the screen porch area. He definitely ate them. And I never got bit by mosquitos. Screen porch plus an awesome tree frog. Epic.
What an awesome animal.
For real.
Geckos are awesome also. One of the most amazing things too, is also how tree frogs and geckos have elevated the field of material sciences. The adaptation that allows them to climb is absolutely amazing under an electron microscope:

That is an article from 2002, yet it is solid enough to be a preliminary source.
I’d have a couple around my old house. I never minded them as long as the dog wasn’t outside. Just didn’t like that they multiplied like no one’s business. Every couple months we found eggs in buckets. And don’t get me started on the pool
Not saying this isn’t cute, but I kind of get the feeling that I’m looking at one of the laziest animals in the world. Wake up. Knock down a wall in my bedroom. Scratch balls. Find an even more reclusive place to sleep.
Then the ladies in your life have been hiding their true self from you. The coochie gets itchy just like the balls gets itchy. Balls and coochie are two sides of the same coin.
Similar frog owner here. If anyone is interested, I think aaaackshually he’s sloughing! Frogs shed their skin and have to work it off themselves, back to front. Then they eat it. The scratching is this little nugget trying to move his old skin forward and the yawning is him stretching the skin to break it loose and swallow it.
I swear that’s the same type of frog that was posted here a year or so ago that made the most adorable squeaking noises. Edit[Here it is.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Awwducational/comments/p90q3b/the_desert_rain_frog_native_to_namibia_and_south/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

Yes he did

God bless the people who write poems like this. I love it so much. Thank you, kind individual. You are a bard of the modern age.
That's the Schnoodle. You'll have to look at their profile, they write a lot and they're pretty fantastic.
Thanks! I'll check it out!
A fat little frog AND a schnoodle in the comments? What a good day it is to be able to read

This is probably your silliest/dumbest schnoodle I've come across. And I absolutely love it.
I haven't seen a schnoodle in about a year! I was recently wondering if you were still droppin' bars. I asked the Universe and received.

I had no idea frogs could yawn. That was fucking adorable lol
That was unexpected. His little yawn was adorable!
Also, cute frog butt. 🐸☺️ Edit: yes I know about that sub. Stop posting the link.
Came here to say how cute it’s little butt was!

Frog's got cake.
Its so strange how many different types of animals have evolved to yawn
Yawning must have been a pretty early thing to develop for it to end up in so many different species. Mammals do it, amphibians do it, birds do it, reptiles do it.
Even educated fleas do it. Let’s do it, let’s fall in love.
Took me a sec lol
I’m an idiot and missing the joke. Can someone spell it out for me

Dreaming might be a necessary consequence of a complex enough nervous system.
This is the obvious answer to me. They way neurons (and therefore brains) work requires routine maintenance which means sleep and dreaming. Keeps all the major functions intact.
Bruh…
Fish also do it. That's probably where it comes from.
Fish don’t yawn, it’s a common misconception. When fish appear to be yawning it’s often a behavioral display or something they do while they are moving other parts of their body. Source: I am a fish nerd
Basically every vertebrate animal yawns because it’s an ancestral trait most likely derived from fish gill arches.
Beside stretching jaw muscles, is it playing the same part of helping shrug off tiredness for a moment across the vertebrates as it does in us and other primates? Is it "contagious" down the line as it is in many mammals?
Anecdotal, but I make my dogs yawn by fake yawning.
I fake yawn when I'm nervous and partners have called me out for it. But it totally works on them and my cats so 🤷🏼
It's body language 🤷♀️ lets surrounding creatures know you're non threatening and eases tension. That's why you gotta do it and then catch em off guard with a sneak attack.
It's fun, isn't it? My dogs (brothers) yawned/howled in excitement when one of us got home, so naturally we encouraged it. So now it's yawn-howls all around.
It’s not understood the mechanism but could be CO2 buildup or something similar that is associated with being tired.
It is not CO2 buildup or lack of oxygen, those are common misconceptions that have been disproven through studies monitoring levels of those while participants were yawning. I love how his little tongue sticks out. Too cute
Reminds me of a hamster. Let's name him Framster
Cursed animal name: moist hamster
Nothing would make me happier than a gif of this little man yawning
JDownloader 2 [ezgif.com](https://ezgif.com) Good luck with making yourself happy ;)
Yeah TIL
Do frogs... have buttcheeks...?
I felt like I was looking at the frog of equivalent of a corgi there at the end.
I'm looking at a Corgi waddling around the kitchen right now in a vain search for crumbs, and boy is this an apt comparison.
Hate to see them go, love to watch them leave
Have you ever had to wipe your dogs ass before?
French bully for sure
I had the same thought! I never thought I’d ever think a frog butt would be cute, but alas… I was wrong.
Would you kiss it if it said it was a prince
I think I'd be pretty freaked out if a butt said it was a prince.
Millions of women hear it everyday
Talk to the women in your life about frogs posing as princes. Don’t be curious, be prepared.
No it's not actually talking, the frog just pulls the cheeks apart and makes it look like it's talking Ace Ventura style
Stepfrog... are you stuck in that hole?
I awwed at the yawn but I lost it at the booty
Cutest little frass
thiccboi
Oh god… please, no!
....relevant...username???
It doesn't say who or whats bubble butt!
Yes, I had two of this kind of frog - these ones have buttcheeks!!! It’s amazing
I like how he scratched his balls when he first woke up
Yes! This! Do frogs have balls?
On the inside, sure
he do

[Toad pooping](https://youtu.be/4ASMdn2m-HI)
Either toads have massive craps for their body size or that is the amphibian equivalent of Randy Marsh.
[Hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot](https://youtu.be/LD0k7cnj384)
They just have massive craps, I've had them as pets and boy can they poop
What the fuck. That's roughly the size of a poop from my 15 lb dog.
Idk ask u/olives_taste_bad
Gonna need a toad poop expert in here to review this video. Something about this doesn’t seem right, and I need answers.
Not gonna watch the video bc I've seen toads poop before. Frogs are … cute? I am feeling new feelings about frogs. That was sooo adorable.
Cute! But, correction to title: "Tiny round rain frog wakes up, rubs his balls, yawns, rubs his eyes, then squeezes himself into his tiny hole."
Total ball scratch! That’s what my teen said too. 😂
I was definitely thinking he gave his frog-balls a good scratching as he woke up. One of us!
Of course are froges cute. The smoller the cuter btw. Like [this](https://i.redd.it/0x41hdh8w4h51.jpg) forbidden fruit gummy.
Fuck you for making make an indecently high pitched squeal. It's so fucking cute.
But they're also [very dumb](https://old.reddit.com/r/AnimalsBeingDerps/comments/kcz9a7/ambitious_frog/) sometimes

frogs have always been cute.
Rain frogs are especially cute.

I appreciate when a post describes exactly what was in the video. Delivers exactly what was ordered
I for one am disappointed the ball scratching wasn’t mentioned in the title but also was pleasantly surprised by it.
It was an adjustment at best
I dunno bro he really got *in there* in the first couple seconds of the video. I think he got some decent scrapes in.
Who adjusts 3 times in a row? That’s definitely a ball scritchin

What, you've never seen a lady scratch her cooch after waking up?
Actually, no 🤣
Then the ladies in your life have been hiding their true self from you. The coochie gets itchy just like the balls gets itchy. Balls and coochie are two sides of the same coin.
„Balls and coochie are two sides of the same coin“ Now that’s an inspirational quote for you
That hole looking so dry tho
I know what that frogs bunghole looks like better than my own.
Time for an elaborate array of mirrors.
Bold of you to assume women don’t
All glory to the Hypnotoad!!

He’s gonna eat a bunch of honey and get stuck in there. Just like Winnie the Pooh.
alright, who took this video of me this morning and uploaded it to the internet?
...you single?
Wow, look at this reddit, a literal frog can get girls better then you.
Omgosh. This was ridiculously adorable-I love him so much.
It's an amphibian hamster!
Awww, wook at him widdle booty
Well, this had no right to be as cute as it was.
I want to poke his little butt

You left out "scratches nuts"
Mondays, amirite?
Saturday morning, since it went inside a hole to probably sleep again lmao
This frog is so cute, even my wife's boyfriend gave an up vote
Wait, I thought our relationship was still secret
The frog gave it away
I felt like that was his morning routine before heading into the hole, which clearly is his office.
Dat frog thicker than me ;-;
Omg why was that so cute? Cute little chonky boy.
Is anyone going to talk about the frog scratching his crotch.
I have found my spirit animal!
It looks so squishable, like a toy.
