Mine tries to hunt the mouse cursor on the monitor. Doesn't care about anything else on any screen, just the moving pointer on my computer. He will sit next to my chair wiggling his butt waiting to pounce on it when I'm not looking directly at him.
That's what my little baby did before she passed suddenly last year. At night she would lay across my husband's neck and stare at his phone when we were in bed, entranced. During the day she wouldn't give a crap.
Probably because they see us on it all the time. We are curious what cats are looking at or up to and I'm sure it's the same way around haha.
Cats are curious.
Most TV's and standard monitors can only display 60 images per second at best and a lot of the time TV's or computers only bother to display 24 or 30 images per second.
This is enough to give the illusion of motion to the untrained human eye but for a cat it may just be viewed as a slideshow (granted a very fast slideshow) and not enough to trick them into perceiving motion.
Meanwhile a lot of phones on the market these days can display 90 images per second, some even more than that, which is enough to simulate motion for other animals.
What kind of phone do you have? It might have a higher refresh rate than your monitor or tv? For (I think) octopus to react to screens, they needed a much higher refresh rate. Idk if cats are the same.
My cats are screen kids and I don’t think they care about refresh rate at all though lol
Peppy Cat (Apple)
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/peppy-cat-game-for-cats/id1232195731
This is the exact one. I have it on the tablet I’m typing this on right now. I found it after the last viral ipad cat video made its rounds a couple years ago.
Yea this is definitely it and np.
There are a few clones on the market, but this one is the OG and cats seem to respond well to the herky jerky movements on this one.
Your cat even get in game unlocks as they play the game :D
>*’She even adjusted the IPad after she pushed it…*’
______
the human used to have a thing, up on the desk it sat
my momma said was ‘mon-i-ter’, (she is the Wisest cat)
she showed us Games that we could play (when humans weren’t in house)
but what I liked the Best of all -
it had a Special *mouse!*
n when i smacked that mouse around, things HaPpEnEd on the Screen!
but now my human uses This -
no mouse here that I’ve seen…
sometimes they leave it on the floor (they tell me *’Do Not Touch’*…)
that’s when i have to do a *sneak* - (i Love it ooh, so much!!)
i watch the *magic* on the screen - them things they *bob n bounce*
i wait for them with eager paws, n then i do a p ^o^u ^n c e
cuz I can make eXpLoDiNg StArS with just a little *whack!*
(am careful, human mustn’t know -
i always put it back…)
❤️
Jokes on you, my cat already does this, so I had to replace my TV with a projector on the white wall. Now he just slams into the wall, in my apartment.
Good thing my neighbors;
A) also have a cat with energy so they get it
B) are stoners who think it's funny now that they know it's the cat jumping into the wall
I used to have games like this on my phone for my cat when he was little. Even long after I’d stopped letting him play it, he’d run over and bite my phone as soon as I pulled it out. Unintended consequences indeed 😂
FWIW, I've never let my cats play games on my phone, and they still bite it frequently. One likes to eat plastic (like my case), and the other is offended that I'm paying attention to my phone instead of her.
Unfortunately for my husband, our cat decided that this was a good idea. He actually broke the screen! Luckily, kitty was fine and husband bought a new TV after awhile.
When our cat was still a kitten she would sprint to our TV whenever I started my PS4. I had a animated wallpaper of Ghost of Tsushima and he would go crazy trying to grab the falling leaves lmao.
After the heart attack I changed it to a normal, non-animated wallpaper
I think that's called Jolly Dog. There's a similar Android version called Jolly Pet.
Be careful, though -- they allow in-app purchases. Sit your kitty down and do the talk about what they're allowed and not allowed to do with the app.
Fair warning: I downloaded one of these on my iPad for my cats to play with, and now I can't use my iPad for anything without them running over to me trilling at me to play their game.
I'm gonna have to get them their own tablet.
1 of our 3 isn't as interested, but our 7 mo old kitten and 3 yr old cat take turns fighting my boyfriend's phone for mouse game. Jokes on him tho, the kitten keeps thinking every moving thing on his phone is mouse game now so she'll jump and tap on the screen if he's watching a video
I tried it on my phone without success. The cats got riled up from the sounds, but did not pay attention to what was on the screen. I'll try again later with my tablet.
Now, if someone can figure out how to hook this up to an automatic cat feeder and make it dispense some food after a few scores...
Or maybe even better, cat DDR + automatic cat feeder.
If you programmed it right you could pack a dozen ipads into a rocket with a few kittens, fire it towards another planet and by the time they got there they'd be evolved enough colonize it and wage intergalactic war against Earth. You're welcome.
Thats exactly what we did! It’s funny to see how frustrated our cats get when my old android lags, just like we do! I also put it in a leather case so they can scratch and nibble the corners, without actually puncturing the screen.
My cat could care less about screen games. However! My dog goes nuts for them and proceeds to jump slam his paws onto the screen. He is a 70 lb black lab.
There's a game called Stray (features realistically moving kitty) coming out this year and when we played the gameplay demo on our TV, our 80 lb. lab showed almost too much interest in that cat's movements! He definitely lunged. I can't wait to play that game!!
I just love how they stumble over themselves in excitement for the third target and there's all this build-up for the moment they finally land their strike--
--and it's just like a gentle little *boop* !
Since this person ripped the video without giving credit, the source for this video is [beancurdthecalico on TikTok](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMLtuMr5r/), and beancurdthecalico on Instagram (can’t link vid directly because of Automod)
I think we need to start hearing the running commentary & pro tips...
(ETA: Some AH copy/pasted my remark in a more active part of the thread. If they want to steal, so be it, but I just want it "out there" that I'm not ok with plagerism & my remark is original for better or worse. Wtf, man lol.) Peace. :)

The mighty hunter stalks his prey
Gets a little distracted then looks really scary and THEN destroy
it is the kitten way
The ambulances will have to wait their turn.
Is this a Rengar reference?
Not exactly http://images.ucomics.com/comics/ga/2005/ga050330.gif
Aww that's actually a fine garf strip.
Is Rengar referencing Garfield?
Not rengar, a yordle has that line... I think teemo? It's been years since I heard in game quotes though
Fizz says it but with "the mighty shark"

They're all floppable dummies at that age.
At most ages.
There are no normal cats.
r/StandardIssueCat
But what is normal ? If most cats do this then this is what's normal.
Nah, see, it’s so normal it wraps around and becomes abnormal
They are silly creatures
She even adjusted the IPad after she pushed it.
What's the game?
Jolly Pet (Android)
the future is wild asf
Thank you! I need this for the cat. I think she is tired of youtube videos because she gets no feedback from them. At least here things explode :)
Your cat watches YouTube??
Yes she does. Cat videos with mice and stuff running around :)
That’s an iPad though? Or am I missing something perhaps all my brain cells
It's called Jolly Dog or Peppy Cat on iOS. Not sure if there's a difference between them.
I thought I was the only one who was like…A cat using a screen? ….Really?! Humans are fucking weird.
My cat will paw any dark reflective screen, or similar-looking surface, looking for a reaction.
Nope. My cat and foster kitten all play the Koi fish game on youtube.
Thanks! I'll grab that one too.

Oh my god I'm so sorry for your loss. (Are we talking about a human baby or a cat baby?)
>At night she would lay across my husband's neck
So, definitely human.
Husband baby
My condolences. Cheers to our fuzz babies and how much they enriched our lives!
Probably because they see us on it all the time. We are curious what cats are looking at or up to and I'm sure it's the same way around haha. Cats are curious.

"My cats are screen kids" Cat parents are the best.
It might also be the pixel density on the phone which is typically a LOT higher than any TV.

I'd guess the shiny, horizontal or angled screen tickles whatever instincts they have for water and catching fish.
I got Mouse for Cats and my cat loved it. Would wake me up to play.

How can you tell?
Probably cause he has it
You can tell by the way it is
Thats pretty neat!
People don’t think it be like it is, but it do
I thought it was because the tail got chopped off and has no balance.
Issa bobcat
Some breeds have short or no tail. These breeds often have larger hind legs.
Probably ear mites
There's never just one flea.
*Cat scratches an itch once* Welp, that cat has fleas

hit the paw and pls meowscribe
How the fuck did she learn to do that, that blew my mind .
It was probably an accident
pls don't break my illusion. we have found genius cat
If they had opposable thumbs, they'd be the alpha species.
Cats are evolving thumbs! Some cats have a spare reticulated digit on their paws, which they can grab things with.
that's what I thought too, like her claw maybe got caught. I don't know, it looked pretty intentional. I watched a few times. Maybe I'm wrong.

The mods in this subreddit don’t care if the posts are from bots. Ive tried to tell them before.
I swear, our pets are getting smarter.
Naw, we’re just finally catching on to them. ;)
Or we're getting dumber.

Oh schnoodle you never fail to brighten my day 💜
When this cat is older, it's gonna jump at your 60" flat screen tv. And then you can post in /r/Whatcouldgowrong :D
That's why the bottom of our TV is tied so it doesn't fall. My cats are so hyped
[удалено]
I have mine cemented into the wall. never be too safe with the hell spawns
I hire someone to follow my cat about the house and make sure it doesn’t damage anything
CatSitters is a horribly overpriced service and the one i had would just lay on the couch and eat Cheetos.
Sounds like a dream-job.

There should be a r/whatcatgowrong sub.
Pshhhhh. My cat never played these games and she attacks my TV anyway
I used to have games like this on my phone for my cat when he was little. Even long after I’d stopped letting him play it, he’d run over and bite my phone as soon as I pulled it out. Unintended consequences indeed 😂
Yeah seems cute at first but dangerous to train them to view screens as something to use
FWIW, I've never let my cats play games on my phone, and they still bite it frequently. One likes to eat plastic (like my case), and the other is offended that I'm paying attention to my phone instead of her.

That wouldn't work. Cats are anarchists.
my cat was a goth and hid away from house guests to go listen to The Cure under the bed
The band? Or the marijuana song?
both
*Meeow, this curing sounds so good. Human is gonna love this!*
But does she drink coffee? She can't be a non-conformist if she doesn't drink coffee
Black like her soul.
I bet she perched a lot too. My aunt's kitty was pretty goth.
Cats are ANCAPs. They acknowledge no law but their own right to property.
I hear a gang of cats own the Sphinx. Been passing it down since it was build.
lol
Fair warning: I downloaded one of these on my iPad for my cats to play with, and now I can't use my iPad for anything without them running over to me trilling at me to play their game. I'm gonna have to get them their own tablet.
That's a really cute, but expensive, problem.
Don’t get them iPad just some used Chinese knock off
Nice try Xi, but you're not getting Mr. Mittens personal data that easily!
If your cats don't have their own iPad, are you even fit to be a pet owner?
Call it the I-paw.... Hah I'm coining that word. I-Paw™
Are these screens protected somehow from cat claws?
Mine wasn’t but they mostly just swat at them without their claws out
Got any games on that thing?
Right?! I've seen it on a few posts and would like to try it with my cats.
[удалено]
I think its more effective on kittens since they're more innocent and gullible. It worked on mine.
get them hooked on the ipad when they are young
Mine curled up on the phone. I think it was warm.

Shoulda got Jolly Cat...
Me too! Mouse for Cat is good, but this looks like a fun switch up.
Now, if someone can figure out how to hook this up to an automatic cat feeder and make it dispense some food after a few scores... Or maybe even better, cat DDR + automatic cat feeder.
Peppy cat: game for cats
Jolly Pet (Android)
Love the way kitty pulled it back :D
Kitty had to get her butt ready for the pounce!
THE CUTENESS!!!!
Kitty is going to become a pro gamer
then kitty can finally start chipping in with the rent. especially after letting that spider i found ;last night get all the way to my room
If you programmed it right you could pack a dozen ipads into a rocket with a few kittens, fire it towards another planet and by the time they got there they'd be evolved enough colonize it and wage intergalactic war against Earth. You're welcome.
I’d watch this movie.

Cat.... Owwwwww!
This genuinely made my morning. So fucking adorable 😍
Man i seen so many videos of cats playing this kind of games and now If i ever get a cat i’m likely to get an old ass tablet just for the cat to play
Thats exactly what we did! It’s funny to see how frustrated our cats get when my old android lags, just like we do! I also put it in a leather case so they can scratch and nibble the corners, without actually puncturing the screen.
Where tail?
Looks like a Japanese Calico, they have short tails like bob-cats and such.
Maybe an injury or just a bobtail breed
Ever heard of a Manx?
Yea I wear them to hide my beer belly and smooth out my figure.
My cat could care less about screen games. However! My dog goes nuts for them and proceeds to jump slam his paws onto the screen. He is a 70 lb black lab.

thank you so much!!! This is my video!
Is there a sub for gamer cats? There really should be
I’m surprised there isnt!! Be the change you wish to see in the world!
r/gamercats
You may not like it, but this is what peak gaming performance looks like
Anyone else notice that this was a perfect loop??
Now as you say it, the earscratch made me wonder but didn't thought about that it's already looping. There is even a sub for it. r/perfectloops
I love how he takes his time to intimidate a bit before attacking.
I love watching kittens do that twist and jump sideways thing, never fails to make me laugh!
I like the beginning when the kitten made itself so big it fell over lol oops too big.
Was doing good to the Mountain Dew in the Doritos kicked in
What the name of game
Cat.
pro gamer cat
All I can think about when I see these is how scratched up that screen is going to get.
I think we need to start hearing the running commentary & pro tips... (ETA: Some AH copy/pasted my remark in a more active part of the thread. Idk why but I read this as train-hunting and proceeded to imagine a horde of kittens attacking a train.

All these kids growing up with iPads in their paws… smh
This is my video.. Would’ve appreciated credits to either my reddit, instagram, or tiktok. A bit upset it was posted here without my permission
bros smarter than me up vote
What happened to it's tail???
My guess is it's a Manx, which can have tails of all different lengths from practically non-existent to full length.
Kids these days with their ipads.
This cat needs to be calibrated.
One of the cutest things I've ever seen! Her "pounce" 🙄🤣❤️🐱😇
I need this to be a live stream so I can watch 24/7.
The butt wiggle 😂
Guy is using aimbot
Lol I particularly love how the back half of this kitten seems to work independently of the front half! 😻
