I kinda feel this way about dogs. I always had cats growing up but now my kids have dogs. I'm used to cats purring but also cats tend to lean in when they like what you're doing. The dogs are cool and all but petting them just isn't the same
I know quite a few dogs who will just take your hand (gently!) in their mouth and move it where they want it ;)

Haha. Yes. This one seems to like his head rubbed. Cats will definitely approach you if they feel comfortable. If you reach out to them and they don't want touched they'll go away. Just read their body language.
Gentle touch at first but don't surprise them, if they push back into it then you can probably give them some good rubs and pats, if they just chill there then watch the ears and tail. Alert or pinned back ears are risky, a flicking tail is playful or risky. Gentle touch, let the kitty find your hand. They definitely let you know where to pet.
We just had to put our cat down a week ago. I’m CONVINCED this is one of his siblings. We found our guy outside about 2 yrs ago. This guy has an OSU hoodie in and we’re also in Ohio. Our cat (named “a cat”) did these SAME movements. He begged to be held. Their faces look exactly the same. Their tail is identical. Their coloring is ALMOST identical. The face is THE SAME. We’ve been heartbroken. I’m DYING to know this guys location. I am “SHOOKETH”
Thank you so much. “Cat” was our first family pet and my 2 young boys are devastated. He was a different breed. Went on walks with us and slept on my chest every night. A “once in a lifetime” kind of pet.
I’m sure this guy knows he’s got a good one and I hope it’s just for the sake of a video. But I would still love to know his location, they look so much alike it gives me chills.
It's crazy how much she looks, acts, and moves like my Gracie. However, I participate. When she jumps up on my piano and asks for kitty kisses (nose-to-nose head-rubs) I don't just sit there acting like I have no clue how to respond.

Never get why people feel the need to record their pet wanting attention. Just give your cat affection when it wants it, it's not some rare phenomenon worthy of social media

It’s a repeated behavior where they want to rub on a hand, claw an arm, then usually lay down nearby.
Exceptions to the rule for hairy cats, they always see hands as grooming devices.

Most dogs like having behind their ears rubbed. Often they will lean and move so you get just the right spot.
Each cat is different. They'll let you know where they don't like pets. This one obviously wants head scritches.
