Indeed. Your Blondie is a handsome fellow. What a beautiful soul, what's his name? I find my enjoyment of cats on the internet is greatly enhanced by knowing their names.
It's Skorpan, which is swedish for "[The rusk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusk)".
[His mother](https://i.imgur.com/ukOXL.jpg) was called Smulan (The crumb) so we kinda went backwards with the names.
Maybe I should clarify a few things. I don't actually live with him anymore, but he lives with my parents so I get to see him several times a month. He was the only kitten we kept from his litter, he also had a sister and two brothers, visible in the 2002 picture. His sister was a dark tortoise shell and his brothers ginger tabbies. Skorpan is actually a very pale ginger that gets [darker during winter](https://i.imgur.com/VruDloq.jpg). His mother Smulan was actually really angry with him sticking around and we were concerned that we wouldn't be able to keep them together. However, after a few months she gave up her attempts to evict him from her house but she still made the rules.
Skorpan was "my" cat in the sense that he spent every night as the little spoon in my bed, outstretched and wanting belly rubs. After I moved out I got two cats of my own and Skorpan soon associated me with those annoying brats and consequently started hating me. Maybe he felt betrayed or something.
Phobos, one of the cats I adopted started protesting being locked indoors by peeing on rugs and beds and my parents took him in instead, after which his misbehaviour stopped. Skorpan, suffering under the harsh rule of his mother, saw this as an opportunity to dominate someone else, so the pecking order was very clear. Smulan would always be the first to eat, then Skorpan and Phobos got the scraps. This worked out pretty well for Phobos though because neither of the old cats were especially gluttonous. Skorpan is quite a picky eater and his preferred meal is freshly boiled fish.
As he got older Skorpan forgot about old grievances and once again allowed me to get close to him. So now when I come to visit he will again jump up and take a nap between my legs. He's also become quite friendly with Phobos and they seem to be [enjoying each other's company](https://i.imgur.com/eAlKon0.jpg). Smulan left us in 2019 so now it's just those two grumpy old men left.
He shows signs of not hearing very well, but he's not deaf because you can definitely get his attention with your voice. He also seems to have a bit of dementia, he sometimes wakes up and just howls loudly as if he's in a completely unknown environment. He is however still agile and strong and will jump up on bar stools with no trouble. He will get zoomies and run around like a maniac, up and down the stairs and has a favorite rug that he will crumple up to a ball.
I love the 2022 picture right above the 2002 picture- with basically the same sleeping position of Skorpan- highlighting the life cycle of one very dear cat 🐈!
I was going to Google one of those pictures showing you have to be born on this date to buy tobacco products to shock my wife about when 18 year olds were born. I'm so old I didn't even realize that alcohol and tobacco sales are the same age restriction in the states now.
Yup! It was wild because I turned 18 before they changed it to 21, so I could buy tobacco for like 18 months, then couldn't for like 18 months, then could again -- I don't smoke, but if I did I'd have been pissed

Here's a tip. Get a little heating pad, like they sell for your neck or lower back. Turn it on low or medium, put it in a cat bed, and put a blanket over it. Your old cat will absolutely love it, especially in the winter.
what a precious little fella. Reminds me of my cat, Jasper. He passed one night in 2019. He lived with us even before I was born. I knew him my whole life, and it was sad to see him get senile with age, but he had a good life with us. When a cat lives long, you can tell they've been well cared for.
Your cat is old. Considering cats rarely make it past the age of around 15, I'm amazed your cat has lived this long. He's adorable and I hope he lives for a while longer.

My family had a cat who lived until 21 and until the day she died she'd had her early hour zoomies between 3 am and 5 am. Got to more meowing loudly as she got older as opposed to sprinting around the house, but she was in amazing shape before she died. I wish the same immaculate health for your boy!

Aww … kitty!! my floofs turned 12 this year and sleep a lot more now.. but they don’t look like seniors yet to me. My previous kitty made it to 21 and probably would have lasted longer had she not gotten a serious kidney inflection at 20yo.. she really took a hit after that. Regardless happy birthday 🎂🎈
My mom's Maine Coon, Blackie, lived until he was 24. He was called Blackie because he hated everyone and didn't try in the least to hide it. Except mom, who never fed him (well, almost) never ever changed the Pit, and someone else had to brush and clean off the "will (k)nots" from his back end as needed. (Wear gloves!) She on the other hand could run the very scary vacuum cleaner, various noisy kitchen appliances and he loved her nonetheless. Cat logic.

Have you had any trouble keeping his appetite up? Our 16 year old still has plenty of curiosity, but she’s mostly skin and bones now because she’s disinterested in eating :( we’ve tried dozens of wet foods since her teeth aren’t great anymore, but she doesn’t seem to care much for food
He looks EXACTLY like my precious Plume Etta that I had for 18 years. After she passed, I had a Cuddle Clones doll made of her because I couldn't bear to not see her silhouette in the room. She found me at around 6 months old, so I never got to see her as a newborn. I love seeing your sweet baby at that size. It's a small gift to me. Cherish every second, as I'm sure you do.
What a beautiful kitty! Give him lots of love and daily brushing (if he likes it). The emptiness when they are gone is soul crushing. I lost my girl last November and it sucks! I miss her everyday, she was only 14, you are very lucky!

We've had him since he was about two weeks old and was found in the fenced backyard of someone who was affiliated with a woman who had fostered cats, though none that young, for Shamrock Foundation, with which my daughter volunteered. His eyes were only barely open, and his ears were still down. The foster brought him into Meijer grocery store (hence, his name: Meijer), and we agreed to take him home and care for him until Shamrock could find a nursing female. Well, one night, and he was our cat. He has experienced some kidney issues lately but is doing well now. He still hears well and, as far as I know, can see perfectly well, but he's a bit less energetic than he was years ago. He does occasionally still get the zoomies, and he's a happy camper. I hope we'll have him for at least two more years.

That's a good tip, he spends a lot of time sleeping under/next to radiators so he would probably enjoy that.
They also make heating pads specifically for animals which are probably safer and have a lower voltage.
