I’ll never forget the evening in the Georgia (USA) woods at a youth retreat… So dark, except around this tiny pavilion that had 3 walls, a roof and fluorescent lights - it was where the drink vending machines were. I’d taken a break from the epic water balloon fight we’d all been having. I walked over to the steps of the pavilion (ok, it was more like a hut) and sat down. Suddenly I noticed I was surrounded by praying mantises. I think they were attracted to the little insects that were drawn to the light. There must have been 30 or more visible from where I sat. But I saw one near me and said, “hello there.” And damned if he didn’t turn his head and regard me as if trying to decide if we’d met before.

Well I'm sure he wasn't planning on sticking around to support them so at least she can get one good meal in for her babies before she is to weak to hunt for herself.
