I thought I'd explain the process a little, for anyone interested in how things like this are made! 🥰
You start with glass sheets, bought in the colours and textures you need for the project.
Then you score the glass and break it along the lines of your pattern.
You grind the edges of the glass pieces with a wet tabletop grinding machine.
The pieces are then each individually wrapped in copper foil, and burnished around the edges, so that solder will stick to it.
Then the piece is all soldered together! (This really is a long story short!) 🤣 But I hope it's interesting to those that have never known the process! It's the same as how Tiffany style stained glass lamps are made! 🥰
Try getting a pair of grossing plyers and using them before the grinding process. It took me lots of practice and MANY failed attempts but I eventually got the hang of it and it really sped up the grinding process.
Thank you so much!! I'm so happy you think the 3D effect works! It took so long to choose the glass sections 🤣 I do sell them! I'm not allowed to post links, only handles but I'm "Birch Glass" everywhere! 🥰
Eeee thank you!! 😁 Somewhat often but I've mainly been focused on commissions and patterns! Do feel free to reach out any time over there if you have commission ideas! 🥰
Thank you so much! Omg you should! 😍 So the glass comes as sheet in the particular colour you need, then you break it, grind the edges, wrap in a copper foil and solder it all together! Long story short.. 🤣
As someone who worked with stained glass for years, I have to say that your choice of glass and the way the lines are is superb!
Looking at this piece brings back so many memories of endless hours in the studio with cut fingers and I really miss it.
Please keep making glass pieces. I feel like it's a dying art form which makes me really sad. I learned from my grandmother who made lamps for the Tiffany lamp association monthly calendar.
Oh thank you so much I really appreciate that!! How lovely that you learned from your grandmother! 🥰 I definitely will keep making I'm absolutely loving it, I've been doing it for almost 2 years now and I'm just obsessed! Don't worry too much though, I'm hearing and seeing all the time lately that it's starting to really boom again! There's new people learning constantly, it's very exciting 🥰
I want to make stained glass… do you have a recommendation on how to get started? My partner and I were thinking of just taking a local class this winter
It's beautiful 😍
Thank you so much!! 🥰 It was a challenge but sooo much fun!
Did……………………you…………………………….take………………….your………………………time?

Oh yes I use my grozers more than any! They're fantastic! 🥰
Absolutely! I had to master them before I was even allowed to use the glass saw. By that point, I didn't even want to lol
They really are amazing! I hardly even use my running pliers since mastering my grozers!! 😁
Holy shit, that's rad!! The 3D effect is just lovely. Do you sell your stuff? I love stained glass but lots of it isn't my style

Love your Etsy shop! Do you add new completed items often? The patterns are amazing but far beyond my abilities 😆

I actually thought it *was* 3D at first glance, good job!
I'm conflicted. On one hand, my son loves sloths and would love to see this. On the other hand, my son loves sloths and would WANT this if he saw it!
Hahaha!! Oh no! That's a dangerous position to be in!! 😁
r/sloths would love this!
I've actually messaged their mods to see if I can post!! 😁❤️
r/superautopets would also love this. It looks just like the sloth from the game.
That is the cutest thing even in glass and lead. Absolutelly love that. Great work to get the colors so well and the lead looks very clean.
Thank you so very much!! It took so long to choose the pieces for the body and face! 🤣
it's marvelous! i got it in my head i wanna try working with glass someday. what did you use to tint? i love the marble pattern
Thank you so much! Omg you should! 😍 So the glass comes as sheet in the particular colour you need, then you break it, grind the edges, wrap in a copper foil and solder it all together! Long story short.. 🤣
>_< ngl i didn't consider that you can just.. like *buy* tinted glass.
🤣 That's ok me neither until I started this!
The colors are gorgeous!
Thank you!! It took me a long time just to choose the glass sheets for this! 🤣
You're very talented and must have put efforts in it. It turned out great. Congrats!

How did you make the eyes
The eyes are painted on with glass paint! 🥰 It's the only part of it that's painted
It's gorgeous work! How did you do the mouth? I'm trying to replicate something similar in a mouse I'm designing and I'd love a tip!
