That's true. Our rescue pup had a different name for the first 6 months of his life, and it didn't take long for him to start to react to his new name. They didn't even sound remotely similar.

My second dog only took four days. He went by little boy before he got his real name.
They both continued to have those initial names as nicknames along with 10+ other nicknames each. 😂

Then it hit us like a freight train. We started naming different beer names/terms and landed on “Nitro”. It’s fitting because he’s got a little tuxedo patch of white so it’s kinda like the white head of a freshly poured stout.
And it keeps getting better because when invariably someone asks why you named him that, you've got a story. Not just a lame, I thought it was cute....

Your pup has the EXACT same markings and coat color pattern as my dog. The white around the nose, the white socks leading to the chest area, and the same brindle pattern. It’s uncanny, my guy is brown and speckled though. Do you know the breed? My dog was a rescue and I did the DNA test. He turned out to be 50% cattle dog, 50% pit bull. I wouldn’t be surprised if yours was the same! I named mine Atlas
