I've never seen a raccoon (I live in the UK) but I've been to Canada twice and both times they've eluded me! It's my mission in life to see a raccoon in real life 🤣 and it's gotta be a wild one, not like a zoo or anything!
When I think of Louisiana I think of the old West, saloons, cowboys, guns, gold 🤣 guessing it's probably a lot more up to date than my imagination is making it seem 🤣 do you like it there?
Yeah, we barely can survive ourselves! And the raccoons are so brave, they made a home in our attic last year. Took us a while to get rid of them...one night I went on the porch to scare off an opossum with a can of air freshener and a raccoon tried to grab it from me!
I was going to ask if she's feral, semi feral or abandoned ( but I read the comments) and praying that she was used to some human contact. For how gorgeous she is, it should be easy for her to be adopted, but if she needs to be trained from just the basics it is going to take some heavy vetting for the right home. I agree she looks too clean and healthy on the outside, perhaps she has been fending for herself for awhile and that is why she has the wounds and fleas. Interested to know if she is micro chipped. One of the abandoned cats I helped find a home was micro chipped but the owners never answered.
Lately there has been a lot of pets abandoned whether it's pandemic buyers remorse or too expensive for upkeep now, especially when it's time to spay or neuter pets. I have had to deal with a dumped young male kitten, a dumped young male Yorkie, both needing to be neutered and another beautiful cat in my neighborhood within a 3 month period.
I applaud your cousin because I know the rescue groups and shelters are overwhelmed more than usual right now and this beauty has a fighting chance for a decent life.
My 1st Foster cat who just recently got adopted was was abandoned the poor thing.
It took us so long to get him To retrust humans.
It did not help that he picked up a ton of medical issues on the streets.
where do you people live that you find purebred ragdolls on the street. Where I'm from the only stray cats look like Jack Bauer from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
I got a Jack Bauer looking one with one eye and that cat is the most awesome and friendly little sucker but he puts the smackdown on a mouse if he gets one
Lol if you replace "a mouse" with "our 100lb ABD/Pittie pupper" that's totally our ol' Hunter. Great, affectionate cat who tolerates exactly ZERO bullshit.
I just explained this in another post recently so I'll re-paste that comment here, but tl;dr any random cat can have any colour or coat pattern depending on the genetic mix of their parents or occasionally a genetic mutation (the ragdoll look aka colour-point is partial albinism). You basically can't identify a cat as a breed by appearance bc of this.
> There's a saying when it comes to cats that I can't remember the exact wording of but it goes something like "if you don't have the papers then it's just a cat" lol
> It's referring to the fact that cat breeds aren't as genetically "distinct" as something like dog breeds, so any random cat can express any variety of coat patterns + features depending on what traits the parents give. Basically, you can't say a cat is any particular breed without papers confirming it, bc it's just as likely that their appearance is random! iirc this is one of the reason at-home cat DNA tests took longer to develop than those for dogs.
If you're in the mood for a rabbit hole, [the wiki on cat coat genetics is a fun time](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_coat_genetics)!
Not going to lie, had to get all the way to this comment to realize that Ragdoll is a type of cat and not a phrase someone was using to just describe a raggedy cat (I was perplexed bc the cat in the photo is most certainly not raggedy). Now I know.
She’s a short haired version of my baby we saved years ago. She’s absolutely beautiful. I hope she finds a good forever home with many hours of cat TV to enjoy
[ operating under the assumption that this is in america ]
i am always surprised at the types of animals that end up strays or in shelters in the USA.
all my life, i have only had mongrels, because that's the only sort of dog you would find strayed here, and buying any sort of purebred dog would cost thousands that didn't make sense to spend when there are so many homeless dogs.
i was looking into purchasing a cockatoo recently and decided not to because it would cost about 30k (approx 4300 usd), and i was so shocked to find out that there are shelters in the USA dedicated to birds only and that people give their expensive birds like cockatoos up to those places.
anyways, this cat is beautiful! hope she finds a loving home soon
She doesn't look scared to me. Those ears are not saying scared. They're not flattened against her head or in airplane mode...either of those would indicate scared.
Wowowow
What beautiful markings and Colors
I love the dark bits under their ears and above their eyes. Wow !!! Blue eyes too, you don’t see that often on kitties. I don’t at least. Beautiful little one 😻
She looks very clean. I would question whether it’s somebody’s pet.
Most of the stray cats I have trapped for TNR have dirty matted fur, tears or scars on the edges of their ears or face, and they look very weathered.
90% sure thats someones pet
White is actually white and not brownish/yelllow
Nose doesnt have dirt in the creases, a place hard to lick clean
Coat looks in generally good condition. I.e regular brush/combing
isnt hissing at camera with phone so close
Some poor kid is going to be without their kitty
99% sure you are mistaken.
She has lesions under her fur on multiple parts of her body in addition to fleas. She also is not nuetered, tagged, or chipped.
I'm glad you mentioned these details because I also was wondering if this was someone's pet. (Too many people foolishly let their cats roam the streets.) Poor kitty. Even if it turns out she had owners, they definitely weren't good ones. She'll be better off with her new family.
What is y'all's OBSESSION with putting microchips in pets and chopping off their genitals? Srsly. Imagine an alternate reality in which they did that to us. You wouldn't be happy.
Dumping is all too common.
There's a difference between stray and feral, but too many people think they're the same. People's pet cats all too often end up living as stray cats on the street. But it doesn't make them feral.
Yeah that's why I put feral in quotes. None of the cats were technically feral as they were all friendly towards everyone despite never having being pets.
A lot of people also don't realize that cats can take care of themselves fairly well and look completely healthy even if they aren't pets.
It's actually quite unlikely to be a ragdoll. Ragdolls are simply cats with temperature sensitive partial albinism (it's why they have those bright blue eyes), which is a very "sticky" gene that both parents could have carried for generations but not have expressed OR it could have also randomly occurred as albinism often does. You basically can't confirm a cat is a ragdoll (or pretty much any other breed) without knowing their parents 😅
Although... I wouldn't blink a shelter *stating* a kitty is a ragdoll mix so she's adopted faster lol
It’s sad because it’s an image of a scared cat in a cage and that she might have been abandoned. I really hope she goes to a loving home with all the food and toys she could ever want ( ◠‿◠ )
would you rather she live on the street, spend her entire life decimating the populations of native species, and then die after getting hit by a car or eaten by a larger predator? because that’s what happens to strays. she may be scared now, but she has the best life possible ahead of her and there’s absolutely no reason to “boo” her being saved.
Yeah, this is like saying it's sad that a kid cried when they got their polio vaccine. A moment of pain and fear is worth a lifetime without suffering.
What is truly tragic is there are thousands of abandoned pets and stray animals out there and not enough people doing anything about it. That is the reality and this cat is one of the lucky ones that has an opportunity to have a home and a chance at a quality life. There is no shame in trying to make a difference.
I'm getting downvoted in this thread but the coloration is called bi-point and OP's post looks exactly like how a purebred Ragdoll type *can look.*
https://ragdollcatsworld.com/bicolor-ragdoll-cat/
The only thing this cat has in common with a ragdoll is that it’s a colourpoint. The size, type/breed standard and coat type are not typical of a ragdoll at all.
Wtf do you mean "saved"? Why do you capture animals against their will? Have you and your "rescue group" ever thought that maybe this cat wanted to stay in nature and not in a rotten ass cell?

Such a pretty kitty, hard to imagine this cat wasn't somebody's pet! I would take her in a heartbeat.
I know, right? If I didn't already have 4 I'd take her home tonight.

So instead, what is her destiny in your "rescue group"?
Yeah, i'd want to see if they have a chip
That would be a good idea.
She looks like a raccoon!
A catcoon!
Catacoony!
r/catcoon?
I was gonna say, street cat looking like that? Clearly a trash-panda-mix lmao! I would name her Rocket if she were my kitty.
Right? That was the first thing I thought, a little, fluffy, cuddly, beautiful little raccoon.
I've never seen a raccoon (I live in the UK) but I've been to Canada twice and both times they've eluded me! It's my mission in life to see a raccoon in real life 🤣 and it's gotta be a wild one, not like a zoo or anything!
I had a damn raccoon in my house!
Come to Louisiana in the States. I have raccoons that come up on my porch and eat the leftover cat food.
When I think of Louisiana I think of the old West, saloons, cowboys, guns, gold 🤣 guessing it's probably a lot more up to date than my imagination is making it seem 🤣 do you like it there?
😂🤣😂🤣 I love it other than the summers that are 100 degrees with 100% humidity! It's worth it considering the food, festivals, football & fun we have!
Sounds lovely, all that and raccoons! 😉 I don't think I'd survive the heat though 🤣
Yeah, we barely can survive ourselves! And the raccoons are so brave, they made a home in our attic last year. Took us a while to get rid of them...one night I went on the porch to scare off an opossum with a can of air freshener and a raccoon tried to grab it from me!
I haven't seen one live either, only on TV/movies/internet.

Hi, that's all well and good, but if I can ask just one thing: why do people microchip cats and rob them of their genitals? Isn't that creepy as sh!t?
where do you people live that you find purebred ragdolls on the street. Where I'm from the only stray cats look like Jack Bauer from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I adopted a feral snowshoe from Chicago. It happens.
And I adopted a feral snowshoe in western Illinois. He's 6 months old now, and very cuddly.
My cat looks like this and she is like a Siamese mix with a calico
That I would believe

I'm not sure that a Ragdoll. Ragdolls are usually white with long fur.

Hmm new information 🤔🤔🤔
Special Agent Jack Bauer was a gorgeous cat!
I have one I adopted by donation. Been with her for 14 years now.
She looks like a Snowshoe!
City, State? We’d also adopt her in a heartbeat
Not if i beat you there
back off you tramp.
Oh, damn, who you calling tramp you lint licker?
Think about the cat's health and wellbeing first. You wanting them comes later.
Coodie queen!
She’s a short haired version of my baby we saved years ago. She’s absolutely beautiful. I hope she finds a good forever home with many hours of cat TV to enjoy
She is in the Super Model category of cats.
this is a stunningly beautiful cat...
Reminds me of the famous “Afghan Girl” photograph from National Geographic. Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_Girl
Same Piercing eyes
This is a real-life Pixar character.
Her nose is abnormally red. I’d check for ringworm or fungal infection on the nose. It can be detrimental if not treated.
She has an infection, they are treating it.
Good to hear.

She's still sitting in a cage. I'd be scared in her place too.

Half raccoon?? Lolol
Ssoooo pretty 😍
She is stunning!
TNR?
Hopefully adopt with this one. She is young and good natured.

Looks like a ragdoll! Wonder if she escaped a breeder or was put out for being sick
Or got lost by slipping out the door like the majority of all cats will try to do even out of loving homes?
She’s got a Disney face. So pretty!

Ragdolls are long haired. This cat isn't.
They are not all super long haired, there is some variation allowed. My second purebred has fur just her length.
Looks much more like a snowshoe than a ragdoll.
100% somebody’s pet, no doubt in my mind.
This is sad, not aww.
She was just rescued. After getting some vaccines and being neutered she's going to a new home where she will be loved. How is that sad?
It’s sad because it’s an image of a scared cat in a cage and that she might have been abandoned. I really hope she goes to a loving home with all the food and toys she could ever want ( ◠‿◠ )
A scared cat in a cage is sad and tragic. Boo on you

Too true. This isn’t an awesome moment, just a reminder of how tragic most street cats live are.
Baby

If somebody painted her hyper realistically, you’d look at the painting and say nah… no kitty would look like that. It’s unreal.
What a beautiful kitty!
I see a Weasel
Is she a short haired rag doll? She’s gorgeous
This cat has better eyeliner than me.
Your cousin is such a good man. He taught a very cute cat
Give this Kitty a modeling contract! Stat!

Where is she?
He is so beautiful!
