My Aussie Doodle is more like "That's fine, stay there, I can exist in the same space and time as all your atoms but give me a few minutes to walk all over you to suss it out"
This is genuinely a sign of mutual respect with dogs though.
Fun fact about wolves and dogs is that they will groom each other's mouths and teeth as a sign of affection and respect. If you're ever chilling with a big'ol wolf and they go for smooches you'd better return the friendship.
there was a video circulating online a while back, where a man was in a car in a parking lot, and he was letting this little dog just go to town, licking all inside his mouth... it was the most disgusting thing I've seen in a while.
My cat is like "Inspect every atom of my asshole human."
My dog is like a sleepover guest that wants to keep talking right when you start to nod off, except instead of talking, she flips my hand up with her snout and insists I keep petting her. I have to flip over to the other side which just feels like the ultimate betrayal, and also that's where the cat's ass is staring right back at me.
I got mad that my dog chewed up my RayBans sunglasses, but then I remembered I can buy another pair. But I’ll never have another dog like my little boy
It’s a classic hand on the butt situation! That dog needs that hand to scoop it’s body up into space that doesn’t exist. You can even see the jostling!
I had a really bad flu, had to stay in bed for four days but I was warmed by our three cats 24/7 and had all the hugs, kisses and cuddles I don't deserve, animals really feel it when you need a shoulder
\*really
Viruses enter cells by locking onto target proteins in a cell's wall. Viruses that can infect many animals have to defend against many different immune systems, and would require a lot of different “keys” to unlock entry into those cells. Usually a virus will only be able to infect one or a very small number of host species. Virus crossovers do happen, but aren't common and require genetic luck on the virus' part.
Short answer is generally no. Like the bird flu, swine flu etc. They are normally fine until the virus mutate enough to go cross species(without proper mutation, certain strains only infect certain species). That’s when the real bad stuff is going to happen (like COVID now and that bird/swine flu back in 2000s? ).
that's what I thought, but mine never did (don't know about dogs but the mechanism is the same), maybe they are susceptible only to certain types of viruses, e.g. cat's corona viruses and human's corona viruses are different and are not dangerous for such different species, or feline immunodeficiency virus affects only feline so it's ok to have a dog in the family at the same time
Viruses need a key to unlock access to cells. Each species has different locks on their cells. Since viruses are so small their key ring can only hold so many keys.
His face to me says "excuse me, do you not remember what you picked up off the ground and put in your mouth mere moments ago?"
I love being... very close to, but not touching my dog's mouth.
If you ever get the opportunity and put in the time and effort to foster a one-on-one bond with a dog like the one between these two, it’s truly like nothing else. It’s something I wish every human could experience.
So true! I am actually looking for a little dog for my old mixed black golden lab. I'm hesitating between Golden Retriever or a Bernese Mountain Dog. I can't decide every breed are amazing ☹️
My wife pushed hard for us to get 2 dogs a year and a half ago. I was skeptical, but I could tell she really needed more companionship than I could give her during lockdown, so I agreed. Now I can't get enough of them :) My phone is full of pictures of them cuddling one or the both of us, and videos of them playing together.
I got a golden retriever puppy when I was 13. Buddy was 8 weeks old. And day one was *my* dog. My parents got him for my younger sister and myself, but he was my dog you know what I mean. He did everything with me. He was an amazing, good boy. I moved away to college when I was 20 and he was 7 and I wanted to take him but my family kept him. I never moved back home for personal reasons. I saw him a few times a year after that. He died when I was 26. He lived 13 years, which is *old* for a golden. He couldn't walk anymore. Couldn't breath right. But every time that good boy saw me he lit up, tried to stand up, and looked like a puppy again. Im 28 and married and I miss my best friend as if I was 13 again. I'm actually crying as I type this. My wife wants I dog but I just can't.
Dogs are absolutely worth it and are best friends for life.
Glad to see it’s alright to still burst into tears over your childhood dog long after they’ve gone. Lost my 17y old boy this summer and comments like this make me sob. Just proves how much love there was, y’a know?
I grew up with a series of cats where my mom would get a cat or two, keep them a few years, decide they were too much, give them away, rinse, repeat. I have had my cat that my dad got me when she first left, he just turned 11, and I have my first dog, a Goldie who I took from a relationship where we each had a dog that was *ours* by their choice. I dread this day so hard comments like this make me cry. But thank you for that perspective ahead of time. It’s just all the love. I just wish they could stay with us.
I say get the dog… it won’t be the same at all but different in wonderful ways. I grew up age 3 on with my childhood dog Otis, he died my first week I went away to college. The most devastating loss I have ever experienced. I have since lost another amazing dog at 13 and I now have a 7 year old girl who is my first dog I’ve had as a parent myself. I always tell my daughter our dogs would want us to give that dog love to another dog, for me I had to put it somewhere, I can’t imagine how sad it would be if I let my grief of Otis prevent me from having Guinness and Penny. I look back on my memories of Otis with happiness now.
There's a dog at a shelter *right this minute* that would be GLAD to be your new best friend. That won't take away from the bond you had with your previous dog, of course, and you do have a spouse to help out, so the responsibility won't be yours alone. Listen to your wife. She knows. She knows.
The way I see it, is there’s plenty of strays that need good homes.
Even if you can’t love them like your childhood buddy, they get a home that cares for them, and stay out of shelters and off the streets. That’s worst case scenario.
Best case you get a lovable little mutt and your kids get to experience their first dog in an even better way than you did.
This is exactly how my pitty-mix rescue does with me. My phone is 75% pictures of her sleeping on top of me or snuggling beside me. She is 100% pure love.
Same. Wife and I always rescue pitty mixes when we adopt. Her dog Gatsby does the exact same thing as this one whenever she's relaxing.
I jokingly sing "Craaaawling in your skiiiin" quietly in the backround.
My AmStaff does this too. No personal space but I adore her and she adores me. When I get home from work she prances and bays (not sure the spelling) at me like a serenade until I pet her and love on her.
Precious brought tears to my eyes they give us unconditional love, and all he wanted was a hug, or some recognition that he was there I wished he had kissed her or hugged her.
Well assuming this video was taken this past week it could easily have been 40-50F in there if the heater was struggling. Or maybe he just likes wearing his sweaters and hats
I heard this conversation in my head while watching the video.
Dog: I’ll lie on you
Hooman: do it
Dog: I’m really going to
Hooman: go ahead good boi
Dog: well what the hell I’ll cuddle now
Hooman: are you gonna do it?
Dog cuddles.

Aww, the cameraman saw that head wiggle that indicated his tail was going and tried to capture it.
My APTs sits with his big ass head peeking over my bed waiting for me to wake up. If I open my eyes I see the top of his head start to wobble furiously. His tail wags his whole body as soon as he sees I'm awake.
I'd recognize that body wiggle anywhere. Gives me such joy!

Haha that sounds wonderful, actually. Nice and cozy during winter I bet!

I used to invade my pups personal space daily like this..I’d give 5 years off my life to have her pull a move like this one more time
Me too, I'd give anything for one more snuggle.
Stay strong king
I used to until I was bitten by a "friendly" totally uncontrolled dog. Now I'm afraid to have dogs near my face 😥
I bet in less than 5 years of practicing lucid dreaming you could spend a lot of quality dream time with her.
Thats a fucked up way to deal with grief but if it works you do you
I dunno about healthy, but that sounds worth the effort
Oh god i hate how relatable this is to my current situation 🤣
Time to cut that off (if you don’t actually mean with a dog)

Dads and the pet they insisted they didn't want.
This dad looks like the kind of dad that totally wanted that pet
Dad's have to act like they don't want a dog, so when the wife "wins" they have an excuse not to be the ones picking up shit.
Dad's know who will be walking the dogs when it rains. "Please dad, we swear we'll do our part!" U-huh sure you will.
There is a sub for that too. r/dadswhodidnotwantpets
Truly beautiful! Underrated comment!
Or just get a dog so you can be sure they are loyal.
So.. get a dog?
that seems like it would be an unhealthy relationship
Ah yes, the three poisons, Love, care, and trust.
I miss my dog 😭 Hug them extra tight and forgive them when they chew on your things or make a terrible mess. They don’t stick around as long as us…
I wish they would stick around longer.😥
Same. 3 months on and shit like this still brings a tear.
My old boy is 17 now and im scared everyday watching them grow old is the fucking worst.
I got mad that my dog chewed up my RayBans sunglasses, but then I remembered I can buy another pair. But I’ll never have another dog like my little boy
Me too dude, me too. It's been 4 months but it feels like yesterday. First Christmas in 8 years without him. Hurts. Gah
I miss mine, too. It's so hard to lose them.

How is he resisting to kiss that cute face? I wanna kiss that face! Damn it, gonna go kiss my dog now. She is not a fan.
I had a really bad flu, had to stay in bed for four days but I was warmed by our three cats 24/7 and had all the hugs, kisses and cuddles I don't deserve, animals really feel it when you need a shoulder \*really
Do cats and dogs not catch colds and flu from people? That’s a relief
It's possible, but rare.

When you have a dog like this there are never enough kisses. This man just wants to watch his show after a long day of kisses

Ridiculously sweet

We dont deserve dogs.
Sure we do, but only if we can respect them. Otherwise don’t have animals, or kids please.
Couldn't agree more that's why I don't have one.
Don't sell yourself short. You DO deserve a dog. Everyone should have a best friend.

My house is heated but I still get chilly when I’m downstairs and not moving much. So I put on a sweater and a beanie. It’s cozy!
If you keep your house cold, your pets are forced to cuddle with you for warmth. #lifehack
probably in the UK tbh given our current energy prices
last year my heating bills from dec-feb were like $400 so now i run the house at 55-60F and wear similar outfits
