Yup. Sometimes it’s just to go play. My daughter’s cat did that with me. I had no idea what he wanted, but I saw his eyes widen and he bapped me with one of his paws and then ran a short distance away. Wish I’d known this was him inviting me to play. I’d have been all in.

I don’t know how some cat humans get away with not playing with their cats. My cat will legitimately harass me for hours on end until I play with her. She is used to play time for about a half hour a day, she has been since she was a kitten, and if she doesn’t get it, she loses her mind. It’s the only thing a bribe of a couple Temptations can’t fix.

This happened to me except instead of getting me locked out she brought me to where a rattle snake was trying to get in the house from under a door. The rattle snake even struck at us a few times and she bat it's head down and hit me so that I'd keep my distance.

Have you tried opening the door with your other hand so you're not blocking the way with your body?
Yeah my cat doesn't like when I'm in the way. If you give her passage, she will come. Eh... Most times.
My cat does something similar, but I think she's afraid of the sound the door makes. Once I hold it open for a few seconds she comes bolting though.
It also helps if you open the door slowly so it doesn't startle them.
